I always enjoy a quiet Saturday morning to just sit, catch my breath, and think about my day before the craziness begins.
A little too quiet here today without my ColbyGirl.
What an awful week. Again. What is with this month of April??
Last week we had heavy rains that caused our basement to get wet especially when I discovered the sump pump malfunctioned - I called the insurance company on Monday as I was at a loss where to begin with drying out the basement. We never took in more than an inch or so of water, could have been far worse, but still it was wet, damp and smelled like wet cement through the house. Tuesday a cleaning company met me at the house but over estimated the amount to clean it - our claims adjuster suggested other companies. Had to arrange to meet a 2nd company at the house on Wednesday - she didn't think there was much to clean - but the SMELL of dampness and wet cement was crazy. Finally got a crew in here on Thursday to move bins, wipe things down, clean the one area that was hit the worse, and set up industrial fans, blowers, and dehumidifiers. Our residential dehumidifier was running the whole time but not enough power to dry the damage. Lots of phone calls back and forth with insurance folks. Our agent was a bit mean. When I called her Monday she immediately said they would not cover the cost of the sump pump and did her best to talk me out of filing a claim. But when their claims adjuster called me, he immediately said the sump pump was "equipment malfunction" and it WAS covered plus the cleaning crew. Geesh. I am so glad I did not listen to Shannon - I wasn't looking to make money off it all but geesh the cost calling a Sunday plumber and having the sump pump replaced was ridiculous - and we had to pay the invoice on Sunday! You all know I was nutty about the funds flying out the window this month with taxes due, property tax due, Gary buying those new tires, and now the sump pump. Anywho, we received a direct deposit yesterday from the Insurance company (minus the deductible of $500) for the sump pump. At least I feel we recouped some of that money.
Now to sort through the soggy things that were damaged. I will write those down on the claims sheet. Mostly throw rugs, decorations and some tools that didn't make it on a shelf. Ugh. Just so overwhelming. I gave myself exactly ONE hour each evening to sort through stuff and toss. I want the Girls to do the same today and tomorrow with me. Just ONE hour a day while they are home.

Thursday evening Carly and Mason came home. Carly was OFF on Friday as she had several doctor appointments in Erie to get to - so we had an appointment to meet with the lady who owns the rental company for Wedding/Shower decorations. Carly wanted the chance to see what she picked out last August for the reception. I needed to get ideas to decorate for the Shower. Lindsey came along as Maid of Honor Larissa owns the business and she set everything up (tons of options for centerpieces, drapes, silk flowers, "Mr & Mrs" signs, decorations, garlands, candles, chalkboard signs and easels, you name it. Each room in the house was set up with different themes and items to rent. We sat in the DR and talked Wedding! It was fun. Kinda. The problem was I had to try very hard NOT to have hurt feelings! Each thought or idea I liked, both my girls shot down and went with something different. Oh? I was so taken aback - like they already had a set plan for things and I was out of the loop. I didn't want to be a MOBzilla so I quieted down and just sat back. I wasn't being pouty but geeze, the Bridal Shower is MY event to plan to honor Carly. Nope, not the way they saw it. So why was I there? Other than to write the checks?
The things they picked out are just as beautiful as I was looking at - I would have gone with white, they chose gold. I would have gone with pastel colors, they chose deeper bold colors. Really, no biggie but wow, to see both my Girls as strong independent thinkers threw me off my game I guess. I get it, it's NOT my wedding but I guess I was just thrown off. It will be fine. Carly and I talked about it later - I told her I don't want to take over what she and Ben have planned. But honestly, so many details need addressed and they don't know how to do it - like ordering the invitations. Buying postage for them. Ordering their 50-50 tickets and Stag-n-Drag tickets to sell ahead of time - organizing food for that event and gift baskets to raffle. All I wanted was to plan the Shower! I think she got it but again I want to be sure not to step on toes here.
Later that evening I noticed our ColbyGirl was not doing so good. In fact, since her toe-nail incident from last week (which seemed healed) she was not acting the same. Her one back leg just didn't seem to work. She struggled, and has struggled for over a month to get up the back porch steps or getting up from a lying position. I found myself picking up her back end and hold her steady until she got her bearings. Thursday evening I found her laying at the foot of the back steps (she must have fell and was there for just a few minutes) I helped her up but she couldn't walk. I lifted her back end and together we hobbled into the yard, she did her business, then I helped her wobble back into the house. Friday morning (yesterday) she went out into the yard as usual but I watched her as she just stood, confused. Uh oh. I honestly don't think she knew or could see how to get back to the porch to come inside. It was odd. I took her leash and guided her back inside and she seemed fine.
About 9:00 while at work, Carly urgently called me. I could hear Lindsey in the background sobbing! Colby was having seizures. Foaming at mouth. Wouldn't let anyone touch her after the seizure. Not good. I rushed home, and one look at her I just knew. We don't think she could see - and she couldn't get up - not sure she could hear us either - I called the vet and arranged another emergency appointment - called Gary to meet us there - the Girls slid a beach towel under her and together carried her to the car. Once Linds and I got her to the Vet they came out with a stretcher. It was so sad. She was breathing heavily and just so confused. As soon as Gary entered the exam room, she immediately sensed him and wagged her tail, then calmly put her head in Lindsey's lap. So sweet. The vet explained she most likely had a brain tumor pressing on her motor nerves which explained her back legs not working. The seizures probably caused some vision and hearing problems or the tumor was pressing on that part too. Anyways, it was all very peaceful and calm as they sedated her. Lindsey and Gary both are struggling with the sadness but of course, we all agree logically it was her time. And how lucky we were not to see her struggle more than she did. Emotionally their hearts are broken. It will all be fine.
I think Carly and I are just sad to see Gary and Lindsey so sad. But I will miss our pup. And our quiet moments on the front porch together or having her at my feet as I typed contract reports

Jenny - I hope your ankle is feeling better. I HATE when that happens and whew, that it didn't twist out from under you while trying to prep for the Birthday event! Your burn was bad enough. I double checked and it's not a Full Moon yet, but man, I feel like there is! Hopefully you have bright skies and warmer temps your way and you can just sit out on your lovely patio this weekend! You worked hard to get it ready -
Carole - wow, that was a lot of sorting through the jewelry boxes. I feel like a slug just thinking about such a project waiting for me in my room! LOL I am like you with feeling intimidated about SS and Medicare and retirement funds and pensions. I have met several times with a finance guy who knows Educators' State Pension for PA and he has given some good ideas. But I also know several retirees who visit an agency who do nothing but help sort out Medicare, SS, Plan B and look at different plans. My friend Cheryl used a local insurance agency who specialize in that and she has no regrets! I steered my friend Jill who is retiring this year to check it out - she mentioned they do have a finance guy but no one ever thinks they have 'enough' to need one. I get it. HUGS to you as you try to navigate the taxes and pension and SS and ugh Medicare.
Gabrielle - wow. DH had to show up in person to a SS agency? That is nuts. I know when I was helping DB file for Disability we were able to do it all online but they called with a set appointment to do a phone interview. I sat with him to help him out - I will say it again, how in the world do people figure this stuff out?? It can be a LOT and to spend your entire 'break' (I get it, who gets a lunch?) on the phone trying to do it is tough. I hope things get sorted sooner rather than later.
Oops, chatty Girls here. Gotta go!

Good morning!
It is so nice now....mid-50's in the morning and 70's during the day. I wish it could just stay this way! I am meeting the trail people to run today but at the local place that we go and I am very familiar with (poison oak set back away from the trail). It is close to home and should be so pretty as the sun comes up. I need that this morning. A long week (but not NEARLY as trying as our Christine's---it is good for me to have that perspective). Later today we are going to a friend's surprise party for his birthday and retirement. He is an ER doctor (Carole, we traveled to NYC with him and his wife for the marathon that time we met you!). I am looking forward to it---it seems like parties are just not something we go to a lot lately.
Christine: I remember last week when you talked about how miserable April had been so far and I was thinking, "It will get better." I just can't believe how much worse it got for you and the family! How frustrating with the sump pump expense and waiting to get the fans, etc. set up. And having the smell permeate the house? Awful! I am so glad that you finally got the fans, etc. in and that they deposited the $ for the sump pump. Sheesh. But to round that all off with losing your Colby-girl? I am just so sorry for you all. Losing our pets is SO hard. It doesn't keep me from getting another one because the time we have with them is SO wonderful, but it is also so hard. Hugs to you--especially as you support Carly and Gary. You spend a lot of time with her---I remember you talking about her almost every time you posted. Wow to the shower decisions. Since we were paying for the shower, I don't think that Kate made any decisions at all about it. I didn't even think to ask her, LOL. Other than who to invite, etc. Well, I am glad that you all were together for it but feel badly about feeling kind of left out (not considered) with the decisions. I do hope that this weekend is calmer for you---really. I also hope that school is going okay with all of this happening.
Carole: I hope that yesterday was a good day and your celebration for Tim and Jaclyn is wonderful today! The house I shared on FB is my Deputy Supt's house (the one who just suddenly announced retirement on 12/31). They already bought a house in So. Carolina so need to sell their house and his wife will move to So. Carolina as soon as school is finished (she is a teacher) and he will stay here in their travel trailer until December. As a matter of a fact, he might be parking it here on the ranch---it is under consideration by him. Yesterday I did leave at 4:45 pm and hope to not have too much work-work this weekend...certainly not today! Good job with your organizing...I have so much jewelry accumulated over MANY years and so many things that I probably don't even remember I had...I wear the same things all of the time! You are inspiring! Have a great time today with family!
Karen: I hope that everything today is as the kids envisioned it---enjoy your mom time as the youngest moves into his next phase of life...good job, mom!
Hello to all who follow. I need to get ready to head out. Hope that you all have a wonderful day--I might pop in later after my run.

Happy Wedding Day Isaac & Marissa ♥♥ Hard to believe the day is here Karen!! Enjoy the celebration of young love!! Can't wait to see the pictures!! ♥♥
Morning all...Happy Saturday!!! Sitting here in the the quiet on this dreary morning drinking my coffee and watching reruns of Matlock!! Mike, the patio guy, will be here around 8:00am to put in the step out the French Doors to the patio. The driveway is completely demolished and some of the old stone and black top chunks are thrown in the HUGE hole from the tree stump that was removed, everything is leveled off as best they could getting ready for the stone delivery on Monday, then black top Tuesday and Wednesday weather permitting....still kind of up in the air with that!! Next week the entire project will be done and then it's just finishing the unpacking, organizing, painting and decorating...all the major "expensive stuff" is done. We already paid Mike in full so today is just putting in the step.....the big $$$ will be the driveway but we have been saving Jason's SS check over the winter and November through April more than covers it even with the stump removal!!
Mike just arrived and they are looking at the patio where the water came in....Jason looked closer at it last night and noticed a spot where the patio pulled away "shrank" from the wall letting the water run down the wall and make the basement all wet/damp. Mike & Jason are looking at it now and hopefully will get it fixed up!! Jason just mentioned that he will fill it in today and it will work for a while but unfortunately it's normal for the concrete to dry, shrink and pull away in places....we only have issues when the rains come from the N/NW on that end of the house....we didn't have issues on the end of the house because of the flower beds to handle the rain....but the addition on that end of the house is just part of the concrete patio!!
Just got a text in the Y group text that Vonnie's oldest granddaughter, Irelyn (10 years old) has been having pain in her ribs and side....they thought it might be a cracked rib but after exam and MRI, they found a 15cm mass on her kidney that is pressing on other organs and the ribcage....they are doing a biopsy of it today and will learn if benign or cancer. Emily, Irelyn's mom, has ask us to keep them all in our prayers. Vonnie just texted that either way (benign or malignant) the surgery to remove it is hopefully going to be scheduled for the 30th but they want the biopsy results before they go in so they know what they are working with. So scary!! That is just one more thing on Vonnie's plate....she was to have a fusion of her neck vertebrae this week but in pre-op testing they found a "blockage" so they had to send her to a vascular surgeon consult to take care of that first....he niece Abby who is Sarah's age has cancer and not doing well, she has 2 small kids....her grandson Conner (8) had to have his adenoids and tube in his ears redone....now this! Seems life is NOT being kind to them right now!!
Christine....I was so sad to see on FB that you had to put Colby Girl down....I remember when you got the sweet pup so many years ago....she lived a good long life filled with love!!! She's now running free from pain over the Rainbow Bridge!!
Gabrielle....thanks for starting us off yesterday! My Friday at work was crazy....the MEAPs keep dropping and Gloria got stuck with the 600+ Elsevier orders....while we are still in OK shape we are not as caught up as we hoped at this point!! But we will get there!!
After work I got to the dentist and they were right on time, always nice! No cavities and my teeth felt so clean!! I always hate eating right after I get my teeth cleaned!! Will say I love my new dentist....I think my teeth feel cleaner after a check up than ever had with my old dentist and they don't keep trying to get me to straighten and whiten my teeth. The dentist even commented on the fact that for almost 64 my teeth are in great shape!! Always nice to hear!! Was going to get gas but when I came out it was drizzling and raw so opted to head home instead. Tried to call DF Rose....she has been in the hospital and now in Rehab since Easter weekend.....she got some sort of infection in her hip that became systemic and was tough to fight....the infection is finally under control but she was so weak from not being able to even walk it's been a slow road to get back to normal. She should if all goes as planned be home on Monday!! Fingers crossed nothing goes wrong to change that this weekend!! Anyway, she didn't answer because she was getting another ultrasound for the continue swelling in her hip....nothing wrong and they think/hope the swelling will gradually subside!!

Good Morning all
What a week, I'm just glad that's over with. My ankle is much better today, it's still sore but the swelling has gone down and I don't need a wrap for it but I'm still going to take it easy on it this weekend. The sun is coming up and we have had 3 beautiful day's of 70 degree weather but the clouds are coming and maybe a sprinkle of rain. I'm so happy, my sister took my mom and dad to the Dr's on Thursday and took them to get groceries so I have the weekend to myself. I'm going to my meeting and then to get my hair done, tonight we're going out with friend to a local mexican restaurant and have dinner so that will be nice not to have to cook. I definitely need a down weekend.
My Aunts and Uncle went home on Wednesday and I think my mom was relieved to get her house back to normal, at least when I talked to her she sounded a bit more relaxed than she was on Saturday. It's a lot of work for them as well with all the visiting and they aren't used to that.

Gabrielle....bummer you had to arrive late at the brewery to visit with friends. I would have done the same thing and not left the co-worker stranded at work. Fingers crossed you were able to get out a more reasonable hour last night. Sometimes your Friday's are so late!! Question....why does the mail person NOT leave packages?? Ours leaves them all the time!! Just Thursday I got the new dish drainer and drain board from Amazon, both were good size boxes that did not fit in the mailbox so they were walked to the porch!! That's just odd to me! I know what you mean about the lines in the post office....every now and then I need something mailed with tracking so Jason usually stops for me since he can drive right passed the PO on his way home...he always complains about the crazy lines and how long he has to wait!!
Sorry for the continued issues with SS/Medicare for Ed and the coverage he clearly does not need since covered by your insurance until July. Hopefully he was able to get it resolved when he went in...how far is the SS office from your house??
Yes, the old driveway and our new one will be blacktop....one, it's cheaper, two, we like the look of the blacktop vs concrete and three, where our driveway lays the sun in the winter melts a lot of the snow so we don't need to shovel on many light snows!! To me, concrete is for patios, blacktop is for driveways!! Just the way my brain works!! Will be nice to have that project out of the way. One thing Jim did mention was for a couple of months don't always park in the same spot....he knows people are usually "creatures of habit" and everyone has their own parking space but when doing the driveway this time of year with the heat of the summer months the new black top might soften a bit on the top and if you always park in the same spot you might get depressions. Not a problem for us, our driveway is big enough to hold 8-10 cars depending on the size/make/model so we have plenty of room to "move around"!!
Thanks for the sushi recommendation....I do love the rolls with avocado....I usually get the California roll. Will need to see if my usual place has the Rainbow Roll with the avocado!! I have had the Dragon Roll a couple times from different places and some are spicier than others....I don't mind the spice but I don't like them too spicy that they "kill my taste buds" in the first bit!! Yes, Kellen loves sushi but he wasn't home on Thursday, he was with Josh so I didn't have to share with him!! LOL!!
Carole...honestly I had never tried sushi until maybe 8 or so years ago....the thought of it was "yucky" in my world but Karen and Bobby took us out and we had some as an appetizer and then I tried some on a cruise and found that some were really tasty. It's actually not too bad in a planner either depending on what it is and lots of protein and good fats....I now enjoy it as my "payday treat" instead of pizza or stromboli or something less than healthy. Jason is not a fan and he has tried it when I did....just not his "cup of tea" either!! He is not a huge seafood fan anyway!!
LOL Carole....part of the reason we have Simon is because we don't have much and needed to make sure the little we had got us through what we both hope is a LONG retirement!! We went to one of those dinner presentations and as I mentioned we met with him and Dave 5-6 times and MANY hours before we decided to move our stuff over there....they evaluated our current investments, fees, growth vs the market and shared many options and the pros and cons to each type of investment. At work we used to have a GREAT guy, Russel, who often discouraged me from putting more into my 401k because the fees were too high and it would be better to put the extra in our Roth IRAs. He too asked to see and calculate our entire "nest egg" and made suggestion but when they switched the 401k company when we got bought out the new guy is a bone head and useless. That was when we knew we needed to have someone like Russell to help us out with the big picture!! I wish everyone could have a "Simon" to help them out in retirement!!
LOL Carole....Jason got the same "catch up deposit" and according to the letter he got several weeks later it was because they recalculated his benefit based on including the earnings from 2023....the amount he was receiving was based on his 2022 income. I expect the same next year since he will work until year end, then his will remain the same except for the annual increase for cost of living. Did you get that same letter?? Oh, I looked, SS is NOT taxed in MA but it did say you would be taxed federally.
Happy Anniversary Tim and Jaclyn!!
Carole...you are still going like a white tornado purging and organizing!! I have a laundry basket in our room that has been there for months!! Still has summer clothes in it, that's how long it has been sitting there....my goal today is to get that thing emptied once and for all....I pulled something out of it for TX but with the warm weather coming I need to just get things put away for good! With losing closets and storage for the addition, things just got put in totes and laundry baskets and there was no need to do anything with them until we had more space to hang them. Today is the day!!
LOL...yes Carole you WILL find some of the missing earrings now....just like the odd sock! Always find it one you finally toss the other! It's "Murphy's Law"!!
Christine....thanks for starting us off today....you sure have had quite the April....I'm sure it is quiet without Colby Girl. Such a sweet pup! ♥♥ My little bit of water in the crawl space under the addition is nothing compared to the mess you had last weekend with the sump pump. So glad you found out the mess was covered under insurance except the $500 deductible. A godsend after all the other expenses this month. Shannon needs to brush up on her knowledge of coverage it seems. Glad you followed through and the adjuster gave you good news!! Might not have been the entire amount you had to pay out on Sunday but at least it helped out some!! I don't envy you going through all the soggy stuff in the basement....hopefully the girls will so their part so their things don't get ruined any more than they are.....somethings might be salvaged and just need a good cleaning but others need to be tossed and claimed before they get molding and really stink up the basement!!

Karen ♥ Wishing you a wonderful day, to celebrate your young man and his wife. ♥♥♥♥
Good Morning {{{hugs}}} Christine, thanks for starting us off today. Thank goodness in 11 days it will be May. ♥ Again, so very sorry about your Colby Girl. So glad your insurance adjuster came through for you! Geeze... I hate dealing with insurance! We pay and pay for so many years, then they get all snarly when we try to file a claim! Good idea to have the girls help with sorting stuff - some is probably their stuff in storage?
Oh dear... sorry the girls took over your shower plans. So hard NOT to have feelings hurt, during this time. I remember! Such a delicate balance between helping and overstepping.
Oh how awful, for all of you. But, yes, it sure did seem like her time. I know how hard it is... I also know you will all be OK, but need time to grieve.
Well I am sure glad I am not the only one with a ton of jewelry, etc., to purge and organize!
Thanks, I just feel so stupid, when it comes to all this crap! I did find out yesterday that my pension started! I called to check the status, and was told 4/17, you received your April payment... who knew?? LOL I don't just go check my accounts every day! I "assumed" I would have gotten a letter? An email? Something? But NO... just a direct deposit! BTW Seeing the deposit I would not have known it was my pension! It has a totally NEW group/company/name, then when I was working. Once retired, the funds apparently go to another trust company! Nice that they share so much? HA! Anyway, my May payment should be in the account on 5/1! THAT is a big relief. I think I want to change the direct deposit, but not sure how much of a pain that will be. They do not have a website to make changes. Another call for another day - for now, I'll set up an auto transfer from checking to savings. I too had to have a phone appointment with SS, around here I don't think they want you to come in person!
Gabrielle: Glad you can enjoy a trail run, close to home, with a beautiful sunrise! ♥ Congratulations to your ER Dr. friend. Oh nice... that you are helping out the Deputy Supt., and glad he can utilize the travel trailer!
Oh you too?? It's so odd, to have so much stuff that I don't wear... but hate to part with! I was finding, oh this was Mom's, this was Nana's... oh I wore these pearls in a wedding (1965) and these were Ma's pearls! I do have a box to give away! Think I'll put it in the little shed at the dump. Someone may want some "vintage" stuff.
Sue: Sounds like lots more going on at your place!! Ohhh, good luck with that section of patio. Maybe a couple of potted plants? Just to "shelter" that one section of patio? I'm sure you will all be glad when it is DONE. Then the FUN begins... LOL Choosing paint colors, painting, decorating... Good Luck! Oh no... Sorry the little girl isn't feeling well. Sounds like even if it is cancerous, they caught it quick, hoping all goes well for her. {{{hugs}}} So much going on in that family. Oh, Hope your friend Rose is doing well too.
Jenny: WOO HOO for a weekend to yourself! Oh I am sure having guests is not easy for your DM. Heck even I get stressed having overnight guests now-a-days. Probably because I am old too! Just shakes up the routine.
Enjoy dinner out tonight!
Sue: Yup, and try not to turn your wheels if the car is not moving! Easier said than done. We were doing fine, but had company one day, and well... first "scuff" in the new blacktop! LOL Oh well, we knew it would happen someday!
Nope - No way... NOT even trying it! YUCK I'll eat my meatloaf, thank you very much! LOL Yes, I got a SS letter! Then I got ANOTHER one, because my monthly benefit has gone UP starting with the April check! NOT complaining at all!
Yes... get those summer clothes out/hung ready to use!! My laundry basket was filled with everything from my dresser!
Yesterday turned out to be a great day!! The drive to Wal-Mart was sooo nice! Sun shining, warmer temps, sun roof WIDE open... today looks kinda grey out there, probably more rain due at any time! My meats are prepped for the week, today I will do breakfasts, and produce.
Dinner will need to be in the oven around 4, so we can eat around 6, when DH gets home from work! I expect others to be here between 4/5, so I plan to be all set by then! We'll see! LOL
OK Time to get moving... will help DH get the trash/recycling together. Then when he runs to the dump, I need to get the DR table cleared off. He can help me open it before he goes to work today!
♥hugs♥

Karen today is Iisac's and Marrisa's wedding day, I hope it's the day they both dreamed of and Congratulations to all.
Oh Christine, I'm so sorry about Colby girl. I understand exactly how you all feel with just loosing Sammy a few months ago, but now she's not in pain anymore and knew you loved and took care of her for many years, they are just like children and very much family member's. That's really rude of your agent to not have you file a claim, that's what we pay the home owners insurance for is in cases like this one, I'm happy you recouped some money back. I'm glad the shower planning was ok, I say ok cause your girls have a different idea's than yours but it will all work out and your right not to react, you got to pick your battles, I can't believe it just a few months away. Time goes by fast, and soon you'll be in Florida relaxing after the wedding. On a good note, April is almost over and hoping that May is much better month for you and your family. Hugs friend. Gabrielle I hope you enjoyed your run this morning and avoided all the poison oak. I'm definatly learning about SS from what all you girls are going through. It seemed when Kerry was filing for his it went alot smoother than some of you are going through, I hope it all works out for all and you get set up soon. I can't believe Ed is still dealing with the property dispute, I thought you all went to court over that a while ago. Is Ed retiring soon with you?
Sue glad the remodel is coming to an end, and the driveway is getting replaced that probably feels like a good feeling to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I'm so sorry to here of your friends daughter being only 10 years old and finding a mass in her little body, I will pray for her. Sounds like you had a very busy week at work. Yes, concrete expands and contracts with the weather just like your foundation sometimes it pulls away, but glad they are addressing that situation.
Carole how was the celebration for Tim & Jacklyn? I know you have been doing spring cleaning this week and got lot's of accomplished. It's always a pain in the A$$ to do it but it feels good to get it done and over with. I hope you are relaxing this weekend as well.
Hello to all who follow, it's time to get this day going.

Glad you got to see Carly this week....bet it will be odd with Mason there now that Colby is gone. Sorry the girls shot down all you thoughts on ideas for the wedding and shower. I agree, the shower is YOUR event to plan with Lindsey to honor Carly and you should have some say in the event. I would be hurt too if the only thing I was need for was the $$$. Yes, the wedding is Carly's event but sounds like they didn't really think that you had any part of the either event. Hopefully Carly understands now that you are not there to "run the show" but to help along the way. Fingers crossed she keeps that in mind moving forward with more details to come.
I'm sure it was a struggle to see Colby declining and so quickly since the toe incident. Glad, while hard, the decline went fairly quickly and she is now at peace. Yes, you will be fine but losing those "fur babies" sure does leave a hole in your heart. We were actually talking about that over the weekend and how Jason still struggles when we visit Hannah and missing his daily walks with Kita....they were buddies. Sorry to hear Gary and Linds are struggling.....yes, those moments with her at your feet will tug at your heart but despite the sadness, I know you all realize it was time to say good-bye.
Gabrielle....glad you are enjoying some nice weather....we have been "back to reality" of the mid to upper 60's normal spring weather this week....have dealt with rains and crazy winds but I think we are finally turning around for good this time to nice spring weather and I see low 70's the end of April, early May!! Hope it stays that way. Glad you can avoid the poison oak today on your run...I know how you can suffer from that if you get too close!! Enjoy your Birthday/Retirement party today!! Sounds like a fun time and perfect things to celebrate!! I'm sure as more and more friends retire, you will have more of these events to attend!!
How did Ed make out with the SS office visit?? Did he get the mess straightened out??
Jenny....glad the ankle is better finally!! Yes, don't rush things for fear of causing the ankle to swell again!! YAY for a string of nice spring days!! Bummer the rains will pop in today, on the weekend of course. So glad your DS stepped in to help out with your folks so you have this weekend off to relax and heal your ankle completely. Enjoy your hair appointment and dinner out!! Always nice to NOT have to cook!! LOL, yes I agree with DM....while I love having family come to visit, it is nice to get your house back to yourself.
Morning Carole....I think we all hate to deal with insurance!! For the amount of money we pay in premiums you shouldn't have to deal with snarky people when you finally ask for help with a claim!!
I have to chuckle with you and Gabrielle having so much jewelry....I think I could fit all my jewelry in the palm of my hand. With all the jobs I've had, I could never wear a lot of jewelry....waitress, nursing, coaching...I was only ever able to wear post earrings, no necklaces and two rings.
Rose just texted.....she can chat now between therapy and lunch!! Back later!

Hi Everyone!
Chrintine. Thanks for starting us off. [][][][] hugs my friend. I am so sorry all of you are going through losing Colby girl. It is so hard but it definitely sounded like her time. Lucy #2 had seizures so scary to see. I'm sorry Lindsey and Gary are taking it so hard. It's just so sad. She had a long happy life.
Wow to the girls ideas being different from yours. Yes thetr is a fine line. I'm glad you and Carly got to talk about it.

I'm back....chatted with Rose for almost an hour catching up on all the medical chaos she has been through since just before Easter...she and Tom had been in Iceland in early March and she had some aches/pains in her right leg and hip but just figured it was traveling, strange beds, etc, just an old age kink....then midweek before Easter the pain was worse and she had chills and ached all over....finally on Saturday she couldn't walk or even support her weight on the leg and it was swelling and warm....once in the ER they determined she had an infection in the hip/thigh...they could see a huge pocket of "something" and when they aspirated the fluid it was pus and once cultured they determined it was an E Coli infection. She had had a UTI in February that was E Coli and they figure it was a "radical cell" that got loose and floated in her abdomen for months until attaching to the bone....it did not start in the blood stream so it was not directly linked to the UTI but every now and then a random bacterial cell "goes rogue" and attacks other parts of the body. Thankfully the infection did NOT get to her knee replacement...that could have been a disaster. Anyway....on the way to the OR to drain the massive amount of pus from her hip and thigh she had a "cardiac event" that they had to stabilize so they could operate so that took an overnight stay in ICU and postponed the surgery!! Since then it has been a slow recovery and rehab....but she's making progress. She is if all goes well be home on Monday and I'm going to drop off the shower chair and walker to her after work to help with at home rehab!! She's still got a long road ahead of her. It was so great to chat with her.... She was complaining that the food was TERRIBLE at the rehab so I promised once she got settled I would bring her dinner....she said "awesome, Chinese would be great!!"
Carole...Mike is just about done now....the step was in the shade until just a bit ago so the drying time is terrible....he just took the wooden frame off and now is just finishing up cleaning things up and will call it a day!!! The drop was about 10 inches or so.....he split the difference and made a 5 inch step the width of the door...he said they usually make them 12 inches deep but we aske him to make it 15" for a little more space....it's just perfect!! Actually the spot that "leaks" is where the grills will be stored so a plant is not an option. Thankfully the rains don't come that direction very often.
LOL Carole...yes, Jim said "try not to turn you wheels unless you are moving"....then he also said "it will happen but do you best to try"!! We know too that someone will scuff it before it's all said and done but just to have it level and crack free is enough at this point....it really was beyond terrible!! Nope....I'll take sushi over meatloaf any day but Jason is with you!!! As gloomy as today started, it' gorgeous now!! Mid 60's bright sunshine and blue skies. I have some windows open but it is VERY breezy so have to only open the ones on side of the house that the winds are not blowing.....I opened the French doors to ask Mike a question and things blew everywhere.
Sounds like you are in good shape for tonight's dinner....I'm sure it will go off w/o a hitch as always. If it doesn't go as planned it will not be because you hadn't planned ahead!!
Jenny....Mike looked at it and explained to Jason about the contracting as the concrete dried fully....he mentioned today that it takes 28 days on average for it to fully cure even though you can walk on it the next day it is not fully dried. He filled it in with the leftover from the step and just told Jason to keep an eye on it and if needed years down the road that caulk would work to fill the gap too....unfortunately it's the "nature of the beast" and we just need to watch for signs that it has pulled away again. Yes, it will be good to have all the "big stuff" done finally!! The painting, organizing and decorating is something we can do as time goes on..... Glad Kerry didn't have issues with SS....I forget is he on Medicare or do you still carry him on your insurance?? We have no trouble with SS last year and thanks to having dealt with multiple insurances and Medicare I knew to DECLINE Part B when we had to register Jason for Medicare Part A when he turned 65. Hopefully things go just as smoothly when we do make the transition to Medicare next July!!
Jo....nice to see you pop in!! Work still busy???
Karen....hope today is a wonderful day!!
Time to tackle that laundry basket!! Will pop in later!!
