Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be! We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

New Challenge: CARING April 1 - May 31
âYour body is precious. It is our vehicle for awakening. Treat it with care" - Buddha
This challenge is about caring about and for yourself. So often we get caught up in taking care of everyone else that we donât give ourselves the care we need. Or we give up caring about ourselves. A variety of reasons and for no reason, it just happens. The hard part is to recognize it and once you do, it is hard to explain because very few want to acknowledge it. You get kudos for taking care of others, not so much for taking of yourself. Not caring about yourself can leave an emptiness that you may try to fill with food and alcohol. The emptiness remains, just stuffed down. We want and need more for ourselves. So letâs begin!
Treat yourself the way youâd treat someone you love.
Love yourself first and the rest will follow.
Focus on health and well being
So how do you begin to care about yourself?
Eating fruits and vegetables sounds like a plan. So does drinking water!!
Walking up a flight of stairs without gasping for breath. Your heart will thank you.
If you donât want to be AF then restrict the amount and limit the days you will allow yourself a drink. But remember if 10 is not enough, one is too many.
Start with baby steps. Making too many changes at once can be discouraging so start small. Have you been slacking on flossing daily? Then start making it a ritual. Do you drink soda for energy? Start cutting back by one.
Treat yourself to something you enjoy. Buying the store brand face cream will sit on the counter. If you have a favorite, budget it in as a necessityâŚ.better than buying alcohol! Maybe getting a manicure or pedicure is important to you yet you deny it for yourself. Ask yourself why.
Make a list of indulgences that arenât food or alcohol and start sprinkling them into your life.
Ask for what you need. Too many times we get into a funk and we donât ask for help. You are loved and we want to help each other.
Curb all the justification. Sometimes you just have to do something because you want to do it. You donât have to explain yourself!
Think of your successesâŚ.add three things that went well today to your daily journal. What?? you arenât journaling? Journaling is caring!
LET THE CARING BEGIN!!

Good Morning!
Nice to see the sun shining! It rained for most of yesterday, thunder and lightening. We lost power a couple of times. But at least the alarm didn't go off on the septic system. It was so hot on Thursday and this morning I put a sweater on. Crazy weather.
Momma Dove was staying in her nest but took off when the rain was really coming down. I was glad to see that after about an hour she was back. The nest is somewhat sheltered by the roof. She is there this morning. I'm way too involved, lol.
I feel so cold this morning so going to make some coffee and hopefully get warm. Otherwise I'm going back under the covers.
Wishing all a wonderful day! Hugs, Cindy

DH, DS, & I took the golf cart to the nature trail to walk yesterday morning. Lots of stuff blooming and green. When we got back we had turkey sausage patties, eggs, fresh fruit, and coffee cake for breakfast. I had a lot of couch time yesterday, icing my heel. It felt a lot better by the afternoon. I did my second workout with weights for the week. DH grilled a steak that we had with cheesy cauliflower and leftover broccoli. I managed to stay out of the leftover birthday cake yesterday. After dinner I watched a Netflix movie with Bill Nighy and stitched on my Santa. I was in the tub when I heard thunder so I got out and read in bed for a while. I slept pretty well, waking up around 8, then drifted back to sleep until after 9.
It rained all night and it's supposed to continue most of today. It should be a good day to get some stuff done inside.
Jan- WTG steps 9/11, PU, stretches, tracking, AF. Glad you had a nice day with your sis. Did they have lots of yarn at Herrshner's? The warehouse sale sounds like it would be amazing. Yay for Camping World deals, and your trip only being a little over 2 weeks away. Hope you get to see some of your Oregon friends and DS is having a good time in NY. I haven't decided about taking anything to stitch on the trip, but the Santa backs would not take up much room.
Cindy- Thanks for getting us started today. Sorry about the storms and strange dreams. Yay for the septic alarm not going off. Hope you are feeling warmer.
Cathy- Yay for being almost over your cold, talking to your daughter, seeing old photos.

It will get warm enough later, I'm sure, for me to spread some more bark. DH just got the smoker going with the ribs for dinner and I will be off to Fleet Farm soon to get some more pellets. Also want to try to find some strawberries to add to other berries I have here to make a crumble for dessert. Heard from sis, she had a good time with her friend at the fair, will head home today. I was doing well on my knitting and then while Finn decided to sit on my lap and I was watching TV I totally forgot to Rib stitch, something so easy! Tried to just take it back stitch by stitch, now there are all these weird things going on so it will be a rip out day later when I have some couch time. I always laugh and think, DUH, I wasn't even drinking!! So easy to lose my focus and go on auto pilot! Just need to take some time today to get it straight so I can finish a sleeve and move on. Trying to start thinking about getting ready for our trip. Amy, you seem so calm and ready to go. I wrote out 3 different lists last night for getting ready. What needs to happen here, what to pack, foods to buy and prep. Maybe why my stress score is lower Time to get moving so I can get other things done. Have a great Sunday all. Jan Cindy Sorry about the crazy dreams and lack of sleep. Stay warm under the covers. I'm sure the Momma bird is grateful for the extra eyes on her nest. Can't wait until you can report seeing little fuzz ball babies. Glad the nest is partially covered. Amy Yay for no cake last night. I thru away the rest of the apple pie DH had bought. Just not good, thankfully, he had dug out the apple filling and all the crust was there. I had a few bites of apples, I need to just cook some up with cinnamon and make "fake" pie filling that's point friendly. DH requested the crumble but I didn't want to make it until the other junk was out of the house. I add some fake sugar to the berries along with some regular and he doesn't really seem to notice. He mostly likes the topping and then I can eat some of the filling and be happy Maybe you'll be packing and unpacking today while it rains. GG HOpe you're home and got to sleep in your own bed last night. So fun to see you in the pool with Rylee. Glad you all had a great time. Cathy Looks like the scale is starting to budge again. Glad you are starting to feel better and had fun looking at old photos and things DD has saved. Waving hi to all. Will check in later.

Hi girls. We had a great time! It was so good to spend time with DD and actually have time to talk! And we were able to see everyone we wanted to! And my eating went well! I did stop at the farmhouse where I grew up. What a mess. The yard is full of junk and the house hasnât been kept up at all. I did get permission to take a picture of where the barn was, although they really didnt want me to. I wouldnât be surprised if the house burns down too. đToday after church, we went to Addiâs soccer game. Brr, was it cold!! I know that after being successful, the next day can be challenging. I was tired and could feel myself slipping into the letâs just eat mode. DH and I decided to wing it on our own. I ended up having a frozen chicken stir fry with extra chicken over cauliflower rice, and a salad. Woohoo! I did it! Yes, I am proud of myself! I messaged Murphy over 6 days ago. I donât think sheâs been online.
Amy: My cousin is on the same generic shot that you are taking. She has lost 45 pounds with no side effects. She wants to lose another 20 and try to maintain without the shots. I hope your foot is better now!
Jan: I opted for the black cherry sherbert. Yum!
Cathy: Those colds can certainly hang on. I know mine did!
Cindy: How horrible for DSâs friend! I made my hummingbird nectar today. Iâm going to hang the feeder out tomorrow.

Debating whether or not to go to the pudding tasting tomorrow. I bought the ingredients to make the pudding BUT my husband says that since I am still coughing in the morning I should not go or might give them all the cold. I just wrote to the organizer and wait to hear back from her. The main reason I would miss is that there is a woman over 90 who will be coming and would hate to give her the cold. At the same time...today is the 8th day of the cold and technically I should be less contagious now and don't feel bad...just have a bit of a drippy now at this point and morning couch for a bit. So...we will see. If I do go, I will make butterscotch pudding.
