Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be! We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

New Challenge: CARING April 1 - May 31
āYour body is precious. It is our vehicle for awakening. Treat it with care" - Buddha
This challenge is about caring about and for yourself. So often we get caught up in taking care of everyone else that we donāt give ourselves the care we need. Or we give up caring about ourselves. A variety of reasons and for no reason, it just happens. The hard part is to recognize it and once you do, it is hard to explain because very few want to acknowledge it. You get kudos for taking care of others, not so much for taking of yourself. Not caring about yourself can leave an emptiness that you may try to fill with food and alcohol. The emptiness remains, just stuffed down. We want and need more for ourselves. So letās begin!
Treat yourself the way youād treat someone you love.
Love yourself first and the rest will follow.
Focus on health and well being
So how do you begin to care about yourself?
Eating fruits and vegetables sounds like a plan. So does drinking water!!
Walking up a flight of stairs without gasping for breath. Your heart will thank you.
If you donāt want to be AF then restrict the amount and limit the days you will allow yourself a drink. But remember if 10 is not enough, one is too many.
Start with baby steps. Making too many changes at once can be discouraging so start small. Have you been slacking on flossing daily? Then start making it a ritual. Do you drink soda for energy? Start cutting back by one.
Treat yourself to something you enjoy. Buying the store brand face cream will sit on the counter. If you have a favorite, budget it in as a necessityā¦.better than buying alcohol! Maybe getting a manicure or pedicure is important to you yet you deny it for yourself. Ask yourself why.
Make a list of indulgences that arenāt food or alcohol and start sprinkling them into your life.
Ask for what you need. Too many times we get into a funk and we donāt ask for help. You are loved and we want to help each other.
Curb all the justification. Sometimes you just have to do something because you want to do it. You donāt have to explain yourself!
Think of your successesā¦.add three things that went well today to your daily journal. What?? you arenāt journaling? Journaling is caring!
LET THE CARING BEGIN!!

This is the second time I'm typing this, the first time Sookie jumped on the desk and did her trick of erasing everything, grrrr.
Yesterday DH & I drove to the lake to walk, lots of folks out and about. Afterwards we went jean shopping for DH, with no luck. He needs a 29 inch length, hard to find. I ordered 2 pair from Amazon, hopefully at least one arrives before we leave today. I did pick up a pair of Skechers "slip ins", will be handy going through security at the airport. We shopped for groceries at Publix and got home around 2pm. I had lunch, some couch time, then puttered outside and watered the inside plants. We had Little Caesars for dinner, tried the pizza Puffs, which were pretty good. The are like deep dish pizza muffins. After dinner I cut out more Santa shapes and stitched on Santa #5. I went to bed a bit earlier than usual, finished the book I was reading, but had trouble falling asleep. Part was due to the disturbing ending of the book, mostly due to mind whirling about vacation. Hopefully it will be easy to sleep on the plane.
It's cloudy this morning, around 50 degrees. We're going to drive to Cory's place, leave our car in the parking lot and Uber to the airport. Cory will pick us up at the airport when we return. I'm planning on taking my laptop unless it puts my luggage over the weight allowance. Our flight leaves at 7pm tonight, we arrive in London at 8am, London time.
Jan- WTG steps 11/11, PU, stretches, going to Y, blue dot, AF, going to WW, setting determined meter on high. Sorry your FB needs charged every other day. LOL thoughts on Pecker. I made myself giggle over abbreviating MacrosFirst to MF. MF does also give percentages for each meal. I think I'm going to track everything under breakfast to get daily totals at a glance.
Cindy- Hope all continues to be well with Queen Carolina. Stay safe and be well!
Carole- Yay for the work days ticking down and for the days going by quickly.
Cathy- Glad you enjoyed the pudding tasting and hope you enjoy the luncheon today.

April 22: 197.5 at home April 29: May 6: May 13: May 20: May 27: End of Challenge, May 31: Good morning all. Had a good day yesterday. Amazing when I get up and get moving early how much easier it is to get my steps! Will see what I can accomplish today. Felt good to get my bulbs in the ground, not sure what will come up, kind of small, cheaper bulbs from Aldis but who knows. I may go on a plant snoop today and do some more outside work. It's chilly, but sunny, so could do some pots, or get some more bulbs, maybe at Walmart. I also want to look for another blueberry bush. We have 2 in back that are looking good this year and there's space for another. Filled the bird feeders yesterday and see 2 squirrels are out there this morning sitting up there and enjoying the feast. DH spread some more bark yesterday and I think we have 8 bags left that could get put out today or tomorrow. Everything is finally starting to pop and it looks so nice, daffodils, tulips, the magnolias, weeping cherry and the dogwood is just starting! All the hard work is paying off. With my "fun" chores today I need to also get a few of the yuck ones done. The kitchen floor needs mopping again and I can see the pounds of dust bunnies multiplying under the bed upstairs. Guess I better get moving on some of those things so I can have my couch time and get out for some shopping. Have a great Hump Day all. Jan Amy I can understand why it was hard to sleep last night, GL sleeping overnight on the plane. I read that J. Picoult book a number of years ago. I really enjoy most of her books but she always has some interesting ideas. Have you read House Rules? Sounds like you are getting all your ducks in a row to leave today, sure your yard and garden will do fine when you're gone, glad the neighbor will help water if needed. Loved the QOTD. Enjoy your trip. Hope DH pants show up Maybe you could just get him a kilt or ? on your trip Cindy Glad the Queen has returned to the throne. Hope the babies show up soon. A few years ago I saw a Dove nesting up in the neighbor's gutter. Not sure they are too smart Was so worried a big rain would come and take her out. Finally saw her on the roof with one baby. I guess it's good you can handle the pain, but you shouldn't have to handle the pain. Hugs to you. Will be interested to hear about what the GF makes you, a Mother's Day gift, hint hint. Wheee... Carole Yay for almost being done and having your summer vacation rental planned. Are you in any challenges right now? I got rid of all my Belvitas, off to the food bank. Just not enough bang for my buck and I was always still hungry. I don't know how people can just eat a protein bar or drink a shake and it's a meal! I need volume, guess that's why I could never do Slim Fast or those things. Cathy Sounds like a yummy day. Guess a fruit theme would be a little more point friendly but who knows. Enjoy Will check in later.

Hi girls. Yesterday was Y day. My water instructor is away, and we had the harder one without much of a personality. Our regular instructor does 30 minutes of stretches or weights, and then 30 minutes of slow aerobics. This girl does 60 minutes of jumping/moving and incorporates weights in. I was beat, but could keep up. My friend told me it felt too much like a workout, and not enough fun. Iām sure the class will drop members until our regular instructor comes back. I plan on continuing. Then I did some shopping. I found a Fanny pack thing that will hold my phone and a new little wallet I bought that has the Rfd protection so my card info canāt be stolen. I currently have a crossbody little purse with no card protection (I donāt think). But it is very small and I canāt put much in it. I got groceries and then took a nap! After dinner I had bell practice.
Today I slept until 9:30! I was down .2 for the week. Ever since my colonoscopy Iāve had a hard time going. I went after weighing, so Iām telling myself I really had a loss! š Today is DSās birthday and we are headed up to watch Jackās game. We would take them out to eat, but DS is coach of Jackās travel team, and they have practice afterwards. At least I get to see him and give him a hug! DH tried on his summer clothes, so we are also going shopping for him. We will be eating lunch out, and possibly dinner too! š The joy of being retired!
Amy: I hope you have a fabulous trip! Enjoy every second! I hope you can sleep on the plane! Are you taking ear plugs?
Jan: Both classes are called water aerobics, but as you can see, there is a huge difference! If we have time today, DH and I will walk at the park where Jackās game is. And yes, I would LOVE to take a class with you! We would have so much fun! š
DH is chomping at the bit to leave, so I need to get dressed. I have so much more to say! š¤·š¼āāļø Hopefully Iāll remember for next time!

I had fun the last two days and am going to go to Beirut with Rosalie today. The nice thing about going with her is that she is diabetic so we usually avoid sugar and carbs and make wiser healthier food choices. I am up on the scale more than in a long time and plan to get back ON plan NOW. I have checked the restaurant options where we will be and have a plan...let's see how it works out. The meal yesterday was quiche and salad followed by beef that was falling apart in delicious sauce on mashed potatoes, pavlova & creamy lemon on crumb crust with cherry sauce for dessert with wine and who knows how many calories. I am ready for a bit tamer more simple fare, I think!
