People over 60 have a different metabolism than those who are younger, and weight loss gets harder as one ages. This thread is for us.
Join us! Share your ideas, your successes, your frustrations. Offer support. Get advice from folks who are on a similar journey.
Our challenge is to stay on plan, exercise and keep trying to lose weight while improving our overall health -- and maintaining a positive attitude!
Think about where you were and how you felt when you made the initial decision to join The Senior WW Challenge. Close your eyes and remember when you said to yourself “Enough is enough and I’m getting in shape!” On a scale of 1 to 10, how serious are you? You really need to be an eight or higher! If not, you should probably reevaluate your thoughts and feelings about regaining great health in your life.

Rosie looked great after her grooming but I noticed in the afternoon she was shaking and I think so much of her hair had been trimmed she was cold so I wrapped her blanket around her and she stopped shaking and went right to sleep. But the groomer said the only problem she had was in trying to trim her face as Rosie does not like having her face touched but she worked on it a long time as she kept it gentle. I said I’ll work on her not liking her face touched by using a warm washcloth and rubbing it over her face in the mornings. But she just looks so good I was very happy as was Fred so we asked if we can request the same girl for next time and they said no problem. What was the best is in the past you dropped off your dog at 7 am and picked them up at 3 pm. Well the groomer called Fred at 9:30 and was asking more questions about the type of cut we wanted and then called at 10:30 saying she was done and we could come get her! Fred said he wondered if they had even given her a bath and I said Fred they probably had the bath and nail trim done when they called as the actual trim is done after all that. She really smelled good too! But I am noticing she walks gingerly outside and I think her nails must have been trimmed again after last week and might be sore as might be too short. Of course she might be walking like that due to the uneven ground and she doesn’t want to face plant again! I think getting groomed put her in a bad mood as she barked at everything when she was on the porch and it was not a soft bark like usual and then when she was inside she looked at the tv and started doing a low growl and then barking ferociously at it! She really barked a lot at our neighbor that she likes but he was bringing back his garbage cans from the curb and she had been sleeping in her chair on the porch and the noise woke her up and you aren’t supposed to wake the queen from her beauty nap!
Supposed to start raining at 9 am and continue all day with thunderstorms tonight but then no rain forecast for quite a while. Of course it would be raining the day after Rosie gets done and looks so good as her paws will get muddy and not look bright white. But I’ll wait until tomorrow after it’s dry out and wash her paws. As much as she doesn’t like it I’ll put a sweater on her when she goes out as it’ll only be in the 50’s today.

Good Morning Friends!
So glad that this busy week is winding down. Just 3 yoga classes to teach, then I think I will relax on the lanai with knitting or a book. The shawl is coming along nicely. I am hoping to be done by the first of June when we head to North Carolina for a wedding. Mike's DSis's DGD is getting married. She is drop dead gorgeous.
Jane, Doing the happy dance for your great MRI results!!! I do know how bothersome your tremors are. Mike's left hand is now constantly shaking from his PD. Now it shakes even in his sleep.

Good morning. Spent a lot of time trying to sign in. Changed my passwork, but still didn't recognize me. Guess I'll be a Guest here.
Sandy my dogs always pranced around after being groomed. I believe they know they look good and show off.
Dreary this morning but no sign of rain, but looks like it can pour any minute. church, Kroger for bird seed and then a lot of laundry. Tomorrow I'm going to Alabama for an all day retreat. To night making dinner for two friends. Trying a new recipe.
Gracie is now going out regularly and is extremely happy. She was just laying in the bed out back when I looked out. Of course it is close to the bird feeder, but nothing in it yet so so birds.
Took Jeanne out for her birthday dinner last night. I had baked cod and it was wonderful. Half in refrigerator for lunch today or maybe dinner tomorrow when I return around 5 p.m.

Good morning.
Just gorgeous here.
It's in the 60s and just absolutely and a beautiful morning for a walk.
It's been a busy morning so far. After getting up, getting dressed, making the bed, making the coffee, watering the flowers, cleaning up a few dishes Sam may have left the line around, putting the laundry on...
My mother would have said there is no rest for the wicked.
Enjoy your day.

Geri. Glad you got here
Rosie is quite a character . I love hearing about her.
I have got to go back to Walmart I bought the rubber feet to go on my cane. It takes 4 and one is broken so the part is exposing the metal and makes the cane crooked. I opened the box and it only has 3 so evidently someone kept one and returned the rest. And I have to go to Publix to pick up my new med.
Bingo last night was ok but i didn’t win. I sat at the table with Nancy and Elmer and they both bingoed so they won $140.
Now that people are heading north , my church goes from 8:00, 9:30, and 11:00 services down to one at 10:00. That shows what it is like to live in this area. The 8 and 11 services are traditional and the 9:30 is contemporary. I am not a fan of contemporary because I don’t like the music. Now the 10:00:tries to combine and I don’t like it either. The minister has retired so now looking for a new one. I might be looking for another church. I have gone to this one for 5 years and I am a member . I really hate changes. I Will most likely try to stay and see how the changes go.
Current book is western historical fiction A Love Discovered by Tracie Peterson. I never read her books before. I have been trying new authors

Greetings:
Well, we drove yesterday to Casper, coming through Cheyenne and seeing my friend. I was surprised at how worn out she looked. She's had a few medical issues and the doctors have been experimenting with meds for her. She said she just came off one that seemed to make everything worse and she looked that way. I'm worried about her.
QOTD:
When was the last time you were lost? Just a couple of times stayed in memory. The first was when my folks moved to Orland Park, Illinois. My great aunt and uncle lived in a nearby suburb and had taken us out for dinner after we put my father back on the plane. So, it was just mom, my sister and me. The problem was that it got dark and we hadn't made notes of how to get back to our suburb. Mom had asked great uncle to go to dinner in our suburb so she thought that's where we were. Turns out he'd forgotten that and after they drove off we realized that none of the three of us knew where we were. We drove around for awhile until mom recognized some landmark. After that I always wrote down street names! I only stopped with smart phones! The other time was when I was driving from Tucson to northern Colorado. I wanted to try and get there by following what I thought was the road. The only problem was the the road didn't go where I thought it went. I had to back up and go north on the last road going north! That was more a funny thing than anything else.
What book had the most significant impact on you? I was consumed with the Diary of Anne Frank and To Kill a Mockingbird, but I also was caught up by a book of short stories I just finished. I like short stories. I know that not everyone does. Anyway, the book is NEIGHBORS and written by Diana Oliver who was a young Black woman who died in the mid-60s in a motorcycle accident at 22. These stories are of Black life at the time and they each seem so hard and tragic in their telling. I haven't stopped thinking about it and I finished it a couple of weeks ago. I put in requests for books at the library when I read something about them and they sound good. The problem is that I don't remember where I've heard about most of them. I'd really like to remember where I heard about this book.
If you could disinvent something, what would it be? There are so many candidates for this "honor". I would like to tweak our political system to reduce the time available to campaign. I'd like to limit all candidates to maybe six weeks before the election. Then we wouldn't have this constant mess every few years.
I was interested in the Cuban food. We were in Florida years ago with Bill's friend and his "girlfriend". Her daughter's in-laws lived there and we were going visiting. We were going to a Cuban restaurant for lunch and everyone raved about the bread and the sandwiches. I've always loved breads and I was really looking forward to the bread. I was so disappointed. It was just a plain white roll. The restaurant seemed to be a big deal, but the food wasn't anything special.
Because Bill's son has a two-floor house and we stay on the second floor I said it's time we started walking up and down into our basement daily, so Bill has started. His old recliner is downstairs. He sat in it the other day and it's so much better for him than what we have upstairs. I'm hoping I can find one like it for him.
Jane, the MRI results sound so good. I'd agree, the med would be better on an as needed basis, particularly if the other might make you sleepy, but it's good you have two to try out.
Sandy, Rosie is quite a demanding pooch. Maybe she's just coming into her own and feel very comfortable with you.
Karen E, I read an interesting article on simple things to resolve issues. The one that stayed with me was if there are issues with colon blockages, one simple thing to do is sleep on the left side. The way our systems are set up, sleeping on the left side provides some natural support for blockages. That's assuming it's possible, but I pass it alaong because it sounds so simple.
Geri, everything sounds so perfect at your new home.
I think we need a new bed. We are sleeping in one that goes back to the early 90's. It's got two air mattresses, an early version of that bed. We just add or delete air as needed and it really does work okay. I think Bill would benefit from one that allows him to adjust the back. But he's not interested.
Then we drove on up and went through a pounding rainstorm. I was hoping that it would drift off to the east or west, but didn't happen. At least we'd taken the interstate rather than the two-lane road which was an alternative. There is just nothing to look at. Bill dozed most of the way.
There are a couple of sights we're going to see. A western art museum and an interpretative museum. I think I've been to both, but it would have been sos many years ago I don't really remember them. Except for the picture on the internet of the interpretative museum.

Rainy day here and cool. Could be more severe storms tonight, Rain again Saturday afternoon and most of day Sunday. Also maybe on Tuesday. Not going to complain about rain just if storms get severe although I do not like rainy days. We do seriously need the rain. Trees need a lot of rain to make ups for last summer if that is possible.
I rearranged my sewing room to get the throw away electronics to back door now need to rearrange again so I can sew on Sister Debra’s quilt today. Will take electronic to town in the morning. Wash pickup and pick up some mulch. Also need to get gas for lawnmower, Rob is to put mower deck on tomorrow as well.
Not much excitement here. Think Brother is going home from hospital. Not sure anything was accomplished. I would be very disappointed to be in hospital 4/5 days and all they tell you is to slow down your eating. Such is I guess.
Won’t be walking along muddy highway today, have a great day.
I am going to respond about a story last night on our local news channel. It was provided by one of the head news crew. It was about his mother and Parkinson’s Disease. His mother has had it for years and his fat is her care taker. There is a center near Fort Dodge that other people with Parkinson’s attend on a weekly basis. Maybe 3 times a week. They gather there and do exercise plus are becoming like a family socially. One of the major things they do is boxing. His mother loves it. Actually each attendee does. Don’t know if there is any possibility you can see the segment. It is supposedly posted on WHO cannel 13 new site under think Parkinson’s “My Mother Fights”

It was bright and sunny earlier today but now it's very cloudy and we're expecting rain to move in around 3pm. Jerry had an early afternoon cardiologist appointment, so I hope he makes it home before the rain.
I decided to try a new Unstuffed Cabbage recipe so I got busy right before lunch and got everything in the crock pot for supper tonight. It's starting to smell pretty good so I'm hoping it tastes good too. I also just finished cleaning both bathrooms so as soon as I'm done posting, I'm going to go relax for a bit.
I finished the book I was reading yesterday, Educated by Tara Westover. Denise brought over a few books the last time she was here so I'm starting on We Were The Lucky Ones next. Has anyone seen the Hulu series?

Well we just had a major breakthrough with Rosie and Fred. We had brought her inside and sat down and Fred got up to go pick up pizza for us and Rosie ran at him like she does me when she wants to play and was actually growling at him but a play like growl and in the play stance so I said why don’t you get down and see if she will play with you so he did and she came at him boxing and rolling around and letting him touch her and really played with him! He’s a very happy guy right now and I hope this continues with her.

Luncheon and then a visit from former coworker was just fine. It almost made up for the heavy rain and dark clouds. The sun is out now. More storms in the night expected.
Karen C my DB has neuropathy and finds some relief in a cream from Mary Kay for restless legs.

Numerous tornadoes in south west and western Iowa. Quite a bit of damage but no pictures of any yet as Weather map is on continues for well over an hour and a half. They will be on air as long as there is a tornado in Iowa. Hoping they will lessen before reaching our area. Won’t know that till later. They seem to be moving slow for tornadoes. Huge tornado near Omaha earlier this afternoon. I am going to say well over 20 sightings from Omaha into Iowa so far plus hail in places also. Brenda says they are watching this system in their room in Louisiana. Their daughter is home by herself in Oskaloosa. She is welcome to come here but doubt she will. At the moment all is good here hoping it stays that way.

Hey all. Happy Friday. Hope everyone had a good day. Karen E. hopefully the tornadoes stay away from where you are and from my DB in IA too. I just saw on our news there is a large tornado in the Des Moines area. Stay safe.
We had a very cloudy day with rain starting this afternoon. Wasn't too cool, but cool enough for a long sleeve shirt. Didn't have too much on the agenda and did get everything accomplished I set out to do.
Wishing everyone a great Saturday.

Joan I am not aware of where your DB lives in Iowa. Think Sharon's son lives somewhere close to west Des Moines. Don't think they were in direct path. We have not been so far more to west
