Happy Day All!
BettyJ - sure hope you're feeling much better now. I'm scheduled for a shot in my foot/ankle next week. I about decide I don't really need it, then step on it or walk some a realize that oh yes I do!
Connie - sorry you missed the family get together. I'll bet they sent you pictures!
I've mostly been driving myself and DH crazy looking at stain samples for the cabin. It's just that if we make a mistake, it's a BIG one! And, we're stuck with it! My neighbor has been a big help, and last night on the phone I enlisted another one for whom DH had the most respect on decorating, landscaping, etc. She gave me some good advice and is going to repeat it to DH at my request! Wish I had Mar here as well. I got 4- 5 sample stains on Saturday and if it doesn't rain all day we're going to put some on some boards and try them out. DH doesn't think we need to, but that's tough! Things look really different on a large scale (outside wall) than on that little piece of paper!
DH and I were talking yesterday about assisted living. DH has a friend who's had a series of mishaps and illnesses over the last few months and won't be able to go home again. His wife has severe dementia and he's taken care of her. They have a wonderful DD who's keeping her mom right now, but has her own issues, and a son who talks a good story but is very short on the follow through. It's really made DH sad and thinking about himself - absent the demented wife, of course! Anyway, he kept saying he didn't want to live in an assisted living place, or nursing home. What was the point? You have to remember he is not a social animal at all. Would make a good hermit! Anyway, this morning I was thinking about what he said and decided to tell him today that he already lives in assisted living! I have to be careful how I phrase it as he does do a lot of fixing stuff, and walks every day, but as far as meals, laundry, meds, bills, etc., he's definitely "assisted!" LOL!
Speak of the devil - he's up so time time to start breakfast. I've got to try getting back on healthy, light eating before I gain all I had lost. I've already gained half of it back, but boy, it's been good food! Maybe I need a controlled, assisted environment!
Oh - does anyone hear from Sue? I know she moved, but wondering how she's doing? For all you oldies but goodies, I still think of Helen now and then and wonder about her - and Ralph. Take care, have a good day, and think positive! Cheers!

Been wondering about Helen also. Phyl would have known.
got a lot done yesterday with knee feeling mostly better (constant ache but ignorable), got up and let dog out, got coffee and took a step..wham! Hobbled back to bed, like walking on kidney stone pain. Hope that goes away.

Morning All!
Assisted living is a rough topic and one, I am hoping that I wonāt have to face. Iāve been praying to the good lord to take me, before I get to that point. I think of my mom at my age and she definitely needed my care and assistance. Maybe I enabled her a bit, but for the most part she was unable to handle the most basic stuff for herself. I made her meals, including a packed lunch before I went to work, fixed the coffee pot so she could have a beverage for breakfast, that sort of thing along with laundry, paying the bills, doctor visits and general watching over herā¦.. Penny your DH is quite capable, but would not flourish the way he has without the careful TLC you provide. Do you think he would schedule/keep all those doctor appointments you make for him without your encouragement? Iām betting no. So, you are right that he is already living in assisted living. But isnāt that what marriage is all about? Picking the stain for your cabin is a tricky affair. Stain is pretty much forever ā not like paint that you can correct a wrong choice by simply covering it up with another layer. Take your time and like your plan, find a corner where you can try it out to see if you like it.
Iām scheduled to get a steroid injection in my left shoulder the first week in June. I hate to even think about going through another surgery, but am pretty sure that it wonāt be far off. I really just wanted one year off physical therapy (too much to ask). My other shoulder took 5 monthsā worth, which was a good investment in its success, but itās a hard commitment to have to face and make over again. This is my non dominant shoulder, but because of the pain I had in the other, it does a lot of things not normally done with that arm. Itās a struggle, but the alternative is not an option.
The garbage truck came early this morning and took all of the trash the boys put out there. The end of the driveway is clean and pristine again. Step one in making the house clean and tidy. Now I will go back to discarding 1-2 garbage bags a week until there is no more. I still havenāt figured out the logistics of cleaning out the garage. Iām sure there is stuff that I need to keep and the sorting through is going to be the challenge for me. I am planning to hire the āthe 1-800-got junkā service in the fall and have them take the majority away. The dead freezer will be the first on my list.
Today I have a couple of errands. The first is with the veterinarian office that Lily goes to. They had a computer malfunction in December when I renewed Lilyās Apoquel, so they didnāt bill me. The prescription is for 100 pills and costs almost $400. I renewed that prescription again in March, was billed and paid that invoice. The other day, I received an invoice with a balance owed for the December pills but it was dated April. I know that my insurance company will not pay for the same prescription filled for 100 pills within 3 weeks of each other without an explanation. Iām hoping Iām not in for a fight in getting some sort of written explanation so that I can submit it to the pet insurance without any trouble. Weāll see.
Then a quick trip to Trader Joes for some ciabatta rolls etc, and I am home again. The weather is moist and yucky. Canāt wait until I can get outside and play.
Wishing all a very pleasant day!
Dayle

I only have a bit of time but wanted to get a post done. Called today for an appt to get the oil changed in my car and first she said May 14 was the first available but then found a cancellation for this afternoon so I took that. Need a few things checked that they didn't do last time and might have a low tire too. Called for a hair cut appt but she hasn't returned my call and also made a PT appt. I had to cancel the last one because I had Covid. Made an appt for next Tuesday afternoon.
Penny, I was just thinking the same as Dayle that you pretty much provide assisted living care for your DH. I know that's how I felt when Dave was alive. He had no clue how to set up his meds, pay bills, make appointments etc. I did all of that plus laundry, cleaning, cooking and some of the outside stuff too. After his stroke even though it was a mild one he pretty much decided he wasn't able to do anything. Even walking to the end of the driveway was too much for him. Sounds like your DH thinks he can do a lot more than he probably should but at least he keeps trying.
Haven't done much today. Just went out and brought the garbage can in before the wind blows it over. They haven't picked up the recycling yet. Pat has been quite vocal about me trying to do things. I think she's tired of volunteering to help me. I rarely have asked for her help, she just offers. Yesterday after Ed had taken my garbage cans down she said maybe I should try to do things like that myself. Guess I don't see a problem with asking my son to help me with things. I'm in a crabby mood today. Need to take a happy pill. Wish I had one. Gotta go get the car done. Thanks for listening.

Hello everyone,
We had a wonderful visit yesterday. Nice for all of us to be together.
The moving of the storage stuff went very well. Itās nice itās close to the house now. Unfortunately not everything ended up in the unit. We went last night to put a big box inside and it was closed. She thought they were open until 10 pm like the one in Vegas. Soooo we are stuck with it for 6 weeks. Going to try and get it into the garage.
Lyft picked up DD#2 at 8:30 this morning. Was sad to see her go.
This morning had my kidney and bladder ultrasound. I go Wednesday for the results and urine test.
The scabs from the freezing of the keratosis on my chest are starting to fall off. Still have about 8 more to go away. Dermatologist said 2 weeks and that will be on Thursday.
The screen door guy said he will primer paint the new wood. We hired him. Still have not signed contract with the painter and he has not contacted us. Start date is scheduled in 2 weeks.
Picked up the charcoal starter stuff at Home Depot on way home from the dr office. We are now earthquake ready with the new portable charcoal grill. Will definitely will come in handy if we donāt have power or gas in our house working.
Penny- will be interesting what hubby says when he realizes he is in assisted living. lol lol
Dayle- you are making great progress getting rid of stuff.
Betty- donāt let anyone tell you what you should be doing. Go at your own pace.

Betty, sounds like Pat is getting tired. You need to go at your pace. Probably better as the shot begins to workā¦hoping it does.
Mar, you sure have enough doctors in your life. Hope all is well and quiets down.
Dayle, what a pain .hope insurance will cover a bill that old.those pills are a miracle, but so $$$$. I don't blame you for not wanting yet another surgery that incapacitates. Hope the shot does it.
Penny, decisions like the stain are so hard.
your project sounds long overdue and a really good thing. I keep tossing stuff because if it behind other stuff in a cabinet, we might as well not have it because we can't find it, and have not used it in ages! DH continues to amass books, but at least these pack into boxes and can be picked up by visiting nurses who have a huge warehouse sale once a year
Yeah, another assisted living caregiver here. He sort of functions but tremor makes writing checks, cooking, and such semi impossible. He does not want brain surgery either. Who would at 78? He used to lift and carry things for me but cannot because of a severely cracked vertabrae in a fall two months ago. Combo of the tremor and another thing makes balance bad, so unless I go with him, he cannot walk dog. he is frustrated.
I need to heal fast from surgery. He cannot lift me or really support me. But he will be there and fetch stuff and do some minor house stuff, so i will not be alone. I think they gave me a priority date of six weeks instead of three months because I explained that.
that pain this morning was an 8 on ten scale, ten being moment a ligament snaps in bad sprain or nerve pain when I had a tumor attached to a nerve cut out of my forearm,,,three times normal local did not dent it. I almost passed out. A kidney stone bad enough to make you throw up is nine. good thing surgery is coming.
Fortunately it was down to a four later. So I was able to be in the yard to play frisbee and get the stubborn four footed one to pooh in the yard, instead of waiting for a walk. I was reading a book and she stared at me from the next room so hard I could feel it!
back to reading.

I have been keeping an eye on the weather in Oklahoma. Do any of you remember Betty Reed? She did the Let's Lose 5 Pounds thread for a long time. She lives in Oklahoma and there are serious tornado warnings. She does have a safe room in her home.
Assisted living is a scary thought. It's very expensive here. I was told one place requires one million in the bank in order to live there. Not sure how true that is.
Betty, I took my recycle can out to the curb. My yard guy comes tomorrow and takes my trash can out. I let him park his truck in my driveway. Even trade.
Nice weather just a bit too warm.
Hope you are all having a good day. Hang in there, Lin, soon it will be over.

Got everything into the garage except 3 suit jackets 6 blouses that are hanging in the guest room closet. They can stay there. The garage stuff fit in just fine. She will take it to storage the next time she visits. The bathroom deco is all put back. House looks like she was never here. lol lol.
Itās great the 4 huge plastic bins are in the storage unit and not stacked in the guest room anymore. Really bothered me. So ugly.
My girlfriend that lives in Sacramento might be coming for a visit soon. Not exactly sure when. Sooooo glad guest room is cleared out.
The only thing I do that hubby doesnāt do himself is cooking and grocery shopping. I enjoy the gardening but he mows the lawn and does heavy lifting stuff.
Lin- yes, I have a lot of medical issues going on the past 3 years. Unbelievable at times.
