Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be! We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

NEW CHALLENGE! Declaration of Independence from Alcohol June 1 - July 4
Freedom from alcohol? Does that make sense to you? Are you held hostage to it, use it to calm yourself, to forget what is going on, to get through the evening or even the day? What once was an enjoyable treat has become a daily necessity? Or are you wondering if you are drifting into some kind of undefined, gray area of casual dependency? Then it is time to take a stand and declare yourself independent. It isn't easy, if it was there would be no need for the support of this board. But together we stand and together we can fight it.
Think about the freedom from alcohol. It isn't just about the money, but it is about your health and well-being.
How is your Pursuit of Happiness being affected by alcohol?
The focus of this board is to be ALCOHOL FREE. The focus of our new challenge is be alcohol free from June 1 - July 4, one day at a time. Starting June 1 and ending July 4, we are challenging ourselves to make the right choices, and go alcohol free. Can you let yourself be the person you want to be? Can you reach out for help if need be? The rules are simple, no alcohol for the challenge (understanding for a very special occasion is given). Post your stats daily, it is an essential component to success. One misstep does not mean throw away the day, the night, the week. We are works in progress.
This is a challenge about control....you are in control of what goes in your mouth. Give yourself the gift of THINDEPENDENCE and be selfish if that is what is needed to take care of you!
If you slip, post to the board and find some understanding. If you slip and report you are AF, you are not hurting us, you are hurting yourself. Slips happen, pick yourself up and start again. There is no judgement, we are very supportive of each other.
As with all of our challenges, everyone is welcomed. For some making the commitment to the challenge is the way to go. For others, one day at a time is the way to go. No one will be cut from the challenge. And feel free to post to the board even if you choose not to commit to the challenge. But you might want to ask yourself why.
June 1 - June 7: What is your PREAMBLE (your intention for the challenge?)
June 8 - June 14: What are your BIll of RIghts as a Weight Watcher? (the right to eat fruit, the right to exercise, the right to feel good about yourself, etc.)
June 15 - June 21: What is your pursuit of Happiness?
June 22 - June 29: What does Freedom mean to you by working this life plan?
July 4: Get ready for your own fireworks to happen by declaring your Truths! Kick tyranny of alcohol and a few extra pounds aside as we celebrate THINDEPENDENCE.

DH & I drove to Logan Farm Park yesterday morning to walk and check out the farmers market. Didn't buy anything, but always fun to look. The park is usually busy on Fridays, but there was a Mom's group with lots of babies and Camp Acworth kids. We shopped at Ingles for groceries, then on to the Kroger's plaza. It was the grand opening for Duck Donuts, the line was out the door but I decided to join it. Meanwhile DH got what he needed at Krogers, went to the liquor store, and Subway. We got a free cinnamon donut while we were waiting in line. It was a party atmosphere, apparently people had camped out and the line was much longer earlier in the day. When we got home, I put the groceries away, had lunch, and some couch time. We had a seafood boil for dinner, which was pretty good. I put out the box of donuts for dessert. I had gotten 6 glazed donuts and 6 fancy ones with toppings including peanut butter frosting, coconut, nuts, Twix, etc. We cut pieces off the ones we wanted, I probably ate the equivalent of 1.5 donuts. We still have at least half of them left for breakfast this morning. After dinner we played Winky Dink, which lasted past 9pm, so we decided to just watch HGTV instead of a movie. I read until I finished a book DD had given me, glad to be done with it, not to my taste.
It's sunny and clear this morning, in the 50's! It's supposed to be less humid today, heading to the upper 80's.
Vicki- Have a great trip!
Jan- WTG steps, PU, stretches, tracking, AF. Sorry about feeling uncomfortably full. Hope the baby sweater is indeed easy to knit and you got your pedi. It's hard to pass up 75% flowers! Yay for the kids buying their tickets to come visit at the end of July.
Cindy- Sorry the PT doesn't get the connection of osteo/RA to your knee rehab. Hope all is good with the septic/sprinklers. The Dallas Markets is about 10 miles away. The pizza grilled cheese may have been too salty since I didn't use unsalted butter. I bought pistachios for the ice cream, but I decided the donuts were dessert enough. I'll make the ice cream next Friday.

incognito adjective or adverb | in-kahg-NEE-toh What It Means When you go incognito, your true identity is kept secret (as through the use of a different name or a disguise). Incognito can be used either as an adverb or an adjective with the same meaning. // The food critic made an incognito visit to the restaurant. // The pop star travels incognito as much as possible, using a fake name and wearing a wig and heavy makeup to avoid the paparazzi.

June 15: June 22: June 29: July 4: Celebrate! Final weigh in: Good morning girls. Had a good day yesterday and no nap! Then stayed up too late finishing "Cilka's Journey", fictionalized version of a real woman who lived through Auschwitz and then was sent to Sibera for "consorting" with the enemy. How can we ever forget what really happened and then not worry about it happening again. Need to pick a nice simple Chick Lit book next. I ran my errands yesterday, tried to do a walk in Pedi at the place next to the grocery but they were backed up, so I figure I may wait until after the weekend and try again Monday. There were some wine witch whisperings last night, some stress, Finn hasn't been home since early Friday, kind of his normal once in awhile, but I always worry. See if today he shows up. Ive checked the "jail" pages and Nextdoor but no posts. We are supposed to get rain most of the day, maybe chase him home. I worked on my knitting, actually want to finish a few things in the next few days, just so I can work on new projects. Send 10 photo enlargements to Walgreens for the fair entries, when I picked them up I was glad I checked them, the 2 8x10s had weird colored lines through them. the lady said she needed to change the cartridge and then she reprinted them for me. Will sort some more today. My camera is so full it keeps saying no more I cloud space. I need to start deleting a lot and just printing some I want to keep, most are transferred to my computer but I have a hard time letting some go No big plans today, will work on inside projects. It's time for me to let go of the Rhubarb Crisp DH isn't really eating it, I think the recipe called for making too much crumble topping. It's like eating a giant hunk of oatmeal cookie, which you would think would be a good thing, but you lose all the fruit and it's not worth the calories for me to eat it all myself! Uggh. It's so hard for me to dump stuff. Now that DH is having beer again in the evenings, he is off buying all the cookies and sweets. Not sure which is better. The neighbor asked if I/we could feed their cat next weekend from Friday -Monday. Guess that will decide for me if I would go to the cabin or not. DH says he would do it, but maybe I'll stay home til the 19th, after tires, and then I can go up for a week or so. I want to get a load of things together to do the Flea Market on the 6th of July so know I will be there that weekend. My Fitbit is charging and I need to get moving to get my steps. Hope you all have a great weekend. Jan Amy Were the donuts a special deal on donut day or just because it was a new store? Never heard of Duck Donuts, is it an independent place? Our grocery had sent the text, buy 4 get 4 free, I just needed to run the other way Yay for the scale moving. I think you will be celebrating the 150's for sure by the 4th of July!! If I pay attention, I can maybe finally break the 180's. I need to make a new hanging planter or two with the flowers I have now. The one I made before is so heavy it bends my shepard's hook way over. Mostly because it's gets so heavy with all the rain water. I've moved that one to the porch and will make a couple smaller ones. What was the book DD bought you? I think a booth at the market is worth a try. Do you pay rent, a percentage or ever have to work hours? I keep toying with the idea. Cindy Glad the red light is off and hope the sprinklers come on as scheduled. Sorry the PT is maybe overworking your knee. YES, Find your voice. You have quite the self control if you bought that ice cream so long ago and still have it in the freezer I'm sure Ainsley appreciates you creating such a nice hiding space for her under the bedroom chair. I pile things on top of my dresser, but the good thing is it doesn't hold much so I have to clear it often. Is there anywhere you could go to a pool and do water walking or something less stressful on your joints and knees? Are you still off the Dew or cutting back? GG Safe travels and have fun. Make new friends, take pictures, eat the goodies See you when you get back. Waving hi

Hi all... Thought I should report in. The wayward boy decided to show up a bit after noon. Meowed at me, I put the wet food on the plate, which he turned his nose up at and went up to sleep on the bed. Oh I wish I had a little Go-Pro camera on his head to see where he goes. Surely wasn't hungry, not really wet, tho it's been sprinkling all day. At least I feel a bit more relaxed. Had sent another 170+ photos out and went to pic them up at Walgreens. That's about 1/2 of the road trip and some extras of Yosemite to add to a big album of just all the times we've visited. I was up sorting my scrapbooks, working on some craft projects, can actually see the top of my work table. Now watching some college baseball, Oregon will be playing Texas AM after this game. Knitting, enjoying the lazy day, just need to make sure I get my steps, have made my goal everyday this week and don't want to blow it. I am a failure at throwing out the treats I put it in a container and put it in the freezer. Figure sis and her DH may enjoy it, I just can't waste food, too ingrained from Mom!! Not sure what the dinner plan will be, maybe BLT's. Hope you are all having a nice day, the rain makes me not feel so guilty about just having couch and knitting time. Jan

Hi friends! It’s a dreary day here. I took the pups to a forest preserve for a walk, then to McDonald’s for ice cream. (Not me🙃) I want to finish the book I’m reading, the last book of a trilogy arrived two days ago and is begging to be read!
Amy, it seems counterintuitive to eat more to lose weight but it works.
Jan, does DS have plans to move to Miami? I bet you’re so excited to have him!!
Cindy, I hope your septic thingy is working!
Gg, have a great time!!

Hi All!
Another low key day. Septic is working fine so a win! It's been a sunny day with a high in the nineties. Not quite ready for that. Birds have been fed. There is going to be some clean up work from the rain but that will have to wait for another day. I'm not sure when my neighbor will get her roof repaired. Not my business but she should at least get a tarp put on it. But what do I know? DS thinks he can fix the back porch screen but if not, will start looking for someone that can. Hopefully before the birds decide the porch would be a good place to nest.
I got a text this morning from TX Ortho which is the place I had my shoulder surgery. That was in November 2022. Opened it and I have an owed balance of $11 for the skin cleanser. I can remember asking at the time what do I owe and was told nothing. I can only assume they did an audit and this popped up. I paid it but thought it was strange. Must have been an intense audit. Makes me wonder if my surgeon is leaving the practice.
Amy, I so want a donut now. The donuts sound delicious! We have many donut places about town but none appeal to me to stop in. DS brought some home from a place in Frisco that were amazing but the store is over an hour away by highway. You are so close to the fifties...it is in your near future!
Jan, I don't know how anyone can forget what happened in WWII and yet so many seem to be. An easy chick lit is the series seven sisters by Hope Holloway. Glad you checked on your photos and had them redone. Very glad that Finn is home! There is always a morning that I wake up and say DUMP AWAY! I haven't done a decent grocery shopping for weeks and one is needed. I know when I make treats it is for me. I still have fudge in the freezer from Christmas. I so wanted a cookie last night and there were some Stroopwafels in the pantry. Ate one, they were stale...probably had been in the pantry, unopened, for three years?? But eating one was fine and they went into the trash. I can't spend any time in the water until the knee heals...includes bathtubs, pools, any water. Quick showers are suggested. So far the stitches have not dissolved. I'll have to look into places once I can get into a pool. The Y is taken over by kids during the day.
So far doing well not drinking Mt Dew. Have a few cans in the fridge but haven't reached for one. Am upping my water. It helps that soda has gotten really expensive around here.
Carole, hope you had a good reading day. Nice of you to treat the pups to ice cream! Yup thankfully the septic system is working!
Hugs to all, Cindy
