Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be!We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

NEW CHALLENGE! Declaration of Independence from Alcohol June 1 - July 4
Freedom from alcohol? Does that make sense to you? Are you held hostage to it, use it to calm yourself, to forget what is going on, to get through the evening or even the day? What once was an enjoyable treat has become a daily necessity? Or are you wondering if you are drifting into some kind of undefined, gray area of casual dependency? Then it is time to take a stand and declare yourself independent. It isn't easy, if it was there would be no need for the support of this board. But together we stand and together we can fight it.
Think about the freedom from alcohol. It isn't just about the money, but it is about your health and well-being.
How is your Pursuit of Happiness being affected by alcohol?
The focus of this board is to be ALCOHOL FREE. The focus of our new challenge is be alcohol free from June 1 - July 4, one day at a time. Starting June 1 and ending July 4, we are challenging ourselves to make the right choices, and go alcohol free. Can you let yourself be the person you want to be? Can you reach out for help if need be? The rules are simple, no alcohol for the challenge (understanding for a very special occasion is given). Post your stats daily, it is an essential component to success. One misstep does not mean throw away the day, the night, the week. We are works in progress.
This is a challenge about control....you are in control of what goes in your mouth. Give yourself the gift of THINDEPENDENCE and be selfish if that is what is needed to take care of you!
If you slip, post to the board and find some understanding. If you slip and report you are AF, you are not hurting us, you are hurting yourself. Slips happen, pick yourself up and start again. There is no judgement, we are very supportive of each other.
As with all of our challenges, everyone is welcomed. For some making the commitment to the challenge is the way to go. For others, one day at a time is the way to go. No one will be cut from the challenge. And feel free to post to the board even if you choose not to commit to the challenge. But you might want to ask yourself why.
June 1 - June 7: What is your PREAMBLE (your intention for the challenge?)
June 8 - June 14: What are your BIll of RIghts as a Weight Watcher? (the right to eat fruit, the right to exercise, the right to feel good about yourself, etc.)
June 15 - June 21: What is your pursuit of Happiness?
June 22 - June 29: What does Freedom mean to you by working this life plan?
July 4: Get ready for your own fireworks to happen by declaring your Truths! Kick tyranny of alcohol and a few extra pounds aside as we celebrate THINDEPENDENCE.

June 15: June 22: June 29: July 4: Celebrate! Final weigh in: Good morning all. Monday always feels more like the new week to me than Sunday! It's cool, sunny and going to be a good day. No excuses I keep looking at my calories and stats and thump my head, just those few chips, or handful of trail mix always throws me over my calories, those bites that add up to 300-500 extra calories of junk. Seems so simple to stop but I just don't think before I eat it. Today's word will be Awareness!! Got some things done yesterday, ordered more 5x7 prints to see what I like. Sewed up the rest of my baby sweater and then went to look for buttons that go on the shoulder. Was hoping to find something cute but just got beige plain for now. May go check out Hobby Lobby today as closed yesterday. Worked on my new sweater, read, watched the Ducks self destruct at the baseball game. Kept seeing the Celtics score across the bottom of the screen and wondered if they'd pull it out last night, much closer game. Dh mowed and went to green waste, yard looks good. My NSV was I needed over 2000 steps still after dinner to make my goal. I made myself get off the couch and go walk around the block by the park to actually get them instead of just giving up. If I'm going to keep eating those extra calories, I at least need to keep getting more calorie burn! Need to figure out what to bring for meals camping. Just a dinner and breakfast so not bad. Hope by the time we leave tomorrow morning both cats have come in for the day to sleep and we can just leave them in until we get home. If Finn decides to be AWOL in the morning, I'll let the neighbors know to watch for him and put him in when he comes around. Better get a move on. I will check in later. Jan Cindy Thanks for starting us. Hope all the lab work goes smoothly and traffic isn't a mess. Glad the Celtics pulled it out for you Carole Just think how good that ice cream will taste after the challenge is over I was so tempted to stop at our custard place the other day when the flavor was something chocolate with heath bars mixed in. Are both the kids living at home? Hope DH got over his grumpy. GG Enjoy every minute. Did you get to belly up at the Silver Dollar bar for a coke or something? I know that's a big draw in Jackson Hole. Glad to hear you were all safe and enjoying the day when I read about the road collapsing between Jackson and Idaho. Amy I wouldn't have thought of cutting up and freezing the jalapeno. I looked at booth prices at our new makers market they opened in town. Looks like it's just the booth rent and you can get a small booth for $35 a month or a 6x4 for $65, but right now everything is full. I'm going to keep it in the back of my mind and maybe put my name on the waiting list at the end of summer. I just like that they collect all the taxes, have workers at the registers and you don't have to be there all the time. Just thinking. Waving hi.

Quiet day yesterday. DH & I took the golf cart to the top of the hill to walk. One of our neighbors posted on the neighborhood FB page that all were welcome to help themselves to peaches from their trees. We stopped and picked quite a few from the trees and a few on the ground. I sampled one of the ripe ones, which was delicious and put most into a paper bag to finish ripening. I'm planning on making more peach salsa. Then DH mowed the yard while I edged and dead-headed the flowers and weeded a bit. I had lunch and couch time. We had grilled pork chops, mushrooms, pineapple, with mac and cheese, broccoli, and sliced tomatoes. I ate the last donut for dessert. I went to bed at the usual time but had trouble falling asleep. I ended up finishing a Nicholas Sparks book, finally turning out the light around 4 am.
We had loud thunder and rain during the night. It's cloudy with a chance of more rain this morning. Bill has a vet appointment at noon.
Jan- WTG steps, stretches, PU, AP, blue dot, AF, finishing baby sweater except buttons, purging stuff for flea market or donation. Yay for the B12 helping, reserving spot at Devil's Lake. Your Maker's Market is a much better deal, a bookshelf booth at Dallas Markets starts at $80/month, a regular booth is $260, plus they take 13%.
Carole- Yay for 8 days left in the challenge, working out, floating. I love ice cream!
Vicki- Yay for seeing beautiful country, having an extra day to acclimate, relaxing in pool and hot tub. Will the Teton highway collapse affect your trip?
Cindy- Thanks for getting us started. Yay for the Celtics win. Hope all goes smoothly with the lab work.

M-W Word of the Day
tractable adjective | TRAK-tuh-bul What It Means Tractable is used to describe someone or something that is easily led, managed, taught, or controlled. // This new approach should make the problem more tractable. // The horse’s tractable temperament made her especially popular with new riders.
I'm more familiar with the use of intractable, such as "intractable pain"

Hi All!
Lab work went fine. At this lab you can make appointments and they stress to do so and so I did. It is amazing the number of people that show up thinking they can be taken as first come first serve. A woman and her son came in... he was about 20 and he was refusing to sit next to a stranger, wouldn't move for his mother and he was twice her size and three times her weight. She was apologizing to everyone and when the technician came out to call for next patient, before she could announce the next person, the mother started with I called and they said they would take him immediately. Umm, doesn't work that way. I was called back and while sitting there could see the young man wandering from room to room. I just felt badly for the Mom. I think they decided it was better to take him and get him out. Just another sad case. Anyway, four vials later, done. DS drove me because my knee is not happy. I did the exercises and did the stairs yesterday. Not sure why I have up days and down days. While I was getting my labs, DS ordered up breakfast burritos and coffee from Sonic. It was delicious.
Don't know why I couldn't sleep last night. I went to bed about an hour after the game and never fell asleep. Read, try to sleep, played Sudoku, tried to sleep, watch Ainsley while she slept. Going to take a OTC sleep med tonight. PT is at 10 AM.
Jan, I always think Monday is the start of the new week...of course sometimes I have to work all week to recover from the damage of the weekend. Yay for Awareness! and for getting the baby sweater together. Did you find buttons? Yay for getting in your steps! WTG! I hope Finn and Scout are back in before you leave. Enjoy your mini trip.
Amy, what a nice neighbor! How many peach trees do they have? We planted a peach tree when we first moved here, had lots of fruit and then kaput. Never tried again. We have an Orchard near by that just grows/sells peaches...the ice cream is amazing! They have non-food items as well which is where I think they make their money. Hope Bill's appointment went well. Did the rain come?
Vicki, so happy that you and DH are having a wonderful time ! The country is beautiful. Hope all the plans are working out well!
Carole, ice cream is a wonderful ending to your challenge! Hope DH is feeling better, less grumpy! Stay strong through the end of the challenge.
Cathy, enjoy a very happy time with your daughter!
Hi Liz!
Hi Murphy!
Was so happy Celtics pulled it out for the win! Around here the Dallas news is dissing the Celtics and their obnoxious fans. Not wearing any Celtics clothing outside, who knows what could happen. Wednesday night the game is in Dallas. Even the bloodiest of nose bleed sections tickets are going for over $700 and if you want two seats together, each ticket is $750 plus. Having been to the Arena, I would get nausea being that high. Not quite court side but within the first 10 rows...is $13,500. I'll watch on my TV.
Need to figure out something for dinner...I so need to go grocery shopping but should go with a list which I haven't made.
Hope everyone had a wonderful day! Hugs, Cindy
