Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be!We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

NEW CHALLENGE! Declaration of Independence from Alcohol June 1 - July 4
Freedom from alcohol? Does that make sense to you? Are you held hostage to it, use it to calm yourself, to forget what is going on, to get through the evening or even the day? What once was an enjoyable treat has become a daily necessity? Or are you wondering if you are drifting into some kind of undefined, gray area of casual dependency? Then it is time to take a stand and declare yourself independent. It isn't easy, if it was there would be no need for the support of this board. But together we stand and together we can fight it.
Think about the freedom from alcohol. It isn't just about the money, but it is about your health and well-being.
How is your Pursuit of Happiness being affected by alcohol?
The focus of this board is to be ALCOHOL FREE. The focus of our new challenge is be alcohol free from June 1 - July 4, one day at a time. Starting June 1 and ending July 4, we are challenging ourselves to make the right choices, and go alcohol free. Can you let yourself be the person you want to be? Can you reach out for help if need be? The rules are simple, no alcohol for the challenge (understanding for a very special occasion is given). Post your stats daily, it is an essential component to success. One misstep does not mean throw away the day, the night, the week. We are works in progress.
This is a challenge about control....you are in control of what goes in your mouth. Give yourself the gift of THINDEPENDENCE and be selfish if that is what is needed to take care of you!
If you slip, post to the board and find some understanding. If you slip and report you are AF, you are not hurting us, you are hurting yourself. Slips happen, pick yourself up and start again. There is no judgement, we are very supportive of each other.
As with all of our challenges, everyone is welcomed. For some making the commitment to the challenge is the way to go. For others, one day at a time is the way to go. No one will be cut from the challenge. And feel free to post to the board even if you choose not to commit to the challenge. But you might want to ask yourself why.
June 1 - June 7: What is your PREAMBLE (your intention for the challenge?)
June 8 - June 14: What are your BIll of RIghts as a Weight Watcher? (the right to eat fruit, the right to exercise, the right to feel good about yourself, etc.)
June 15 - June 21: What is your pursuit of Happiness?
June 22 - June 29: What does Freedom mean to you by working this life plan?
July 4: Get ready for your own fireworks to happen by declaring your Truths! Kick tyranny of alcohol and a few extra pounds aside as we celebrate THINDEPENDENCE.

We didn't have a lot of time for a walk yesterday morning before taking Bill to the vet, so we just walked down the hill in front of our house for about 20 minutes, then turned around and came back. The hills are always challenging. The trip to the vet was uneventful. They asked if we wanted them to trim his nails while they had him in the back, we said yes. It may have been a mistake b/c now he has trouble jumping onto the bed, couch or chairs. I guess they'll sharpen up again soon enough. When we got back I had lunch and couch time. We had shrimp fajitas for dinner. After dinner I watched 2 more episodes of GOT, stitched and was in bed before midnight.
It's sunny and beautiful this morning in the low 60's. I think this is the last day in the 80's for a while, with no rain forecasted either. It didn't rain yesterday. I've got seedlings that are ready to be planted (corn and squash). I had blooms on my yard long green beans yesterday and have been picking a few bush beans. I got a few nice strawberries yesterday too.
Cindy- Glad the lab work trip went fine other than the young man with issues. Yay for breakfast burritos from Sonic. Hope your knee is happier today and you slept better. Sleep is not only sometimes elusive but so is the answer for the lack of it. Sorry about the Celtic hate and the sky-high ticket prices. I think the neighbor has 2 peach trees. I wish we had room for fruit trees but we really don't.

June 22: June 29: July 4: Celebrate! Final weigh in: Good morning all. Just checking in, still going to my meeting but taking my home weight. (edit) I did weigh in) And it was same as home I know it’s bloat from a dumb detour last night so I will own it. I’ve been having the wine witch whispers for the last week, the 5 o’clock dinner, TV habit. Not sure why now after 5+ months. Maybe seeing DH with his beer again, maybe just when it happens to try to lure you back in. It’s been like my eating, I’ve danced all around it with NA drinks, sweets, walks but nothing was making it go away. I had wanted to go out to dinner, sit, order a wine, eat out like a “grown-up” but talked myself out of that one and so we made our planned wedge salad and I had DH get me the small wine from the store. Still don’t like how I feel in the morning after, even with a small amount, don’t like the negative self talk I indulge myself in the next day so not sure what the attraction is, except to check out for the short amount of time before bed. Anyway, telling myself I’m “cured” again, at least for now. I know I don’t have to be perfect, but I need to keep trying. BOT with my new week. Next week on Wednesday I’ll head back up to the cabin and enjoy some time away from temptations. Currently both cats are in and I hope while I’m gone and DH is messing around putting things out in the van he doesn’t let Finn out. We’ll see. If he was out another whole day it would most likely be fine but I’d like to know they were accounted for while we were gone. I did go get my pedi yesterday after I’d gone swimming. Kind of strange, all young men, like late teens early twenties, doing the pedis. Not as happy with the results as I have been in the past at this place. Partly I don’t really like the pink color I choose, just looks too light on me, but also probably wouldn’t go back. I’ll live with for now. Hope you all have a great day. Not sure when I’ll check in again, see if we can get any service while camping. Jan Cindy Sounds like quite the circus at the Dr office. I can see why they would take the guy ahead just to get him out of there. Glad DH could order breakfast so you had a treat after. All tickets to events are crazy these days, and no, I wouldn’t wear your Celtics gear around town, too many crazy people. Hope last night the sleep fairy found you finally. I never went to look for new buttons but it will be on my list for when we come back from camping. Amy The peaches sound so good. I cut up two I had here into my cottage cheese yesterday but they were still pretty bland. I’d be freezing a whole bunch or making crumble or pie or ice cream! Yikes. I planted a dwarf peach in our backyard a year or so ago. It finally has some small fruits growing on it this year but we’ll see what survives the birds and animals. Maybe I’ll find some kind of netting to put over it, but them I’m afraid of the animals getting tangled up in it. I also need to thin out the fruit. I’m always surprised at how well Annie adjusted to being an indoor cat and the queen of the basement! I’m not sure if our makers mart takes any % of your sales but it’s not in their ad for space rental. I wonder how it works with taxes, like income taxes. Do they file a IRS form that says what you made and you have to declare the income? Do you mean end of the 80's because it's getting hotter? Waving hi. Better go get dressed to go to my meeting. Heading out soon for the lake

Hi friends! We had a beautiful day! I took the dogs to the forest preserve to walk. At one area, Juno heard something (I think it was a frog!) she pretty much refused to go any further-I think she was scared! So we turned around and walked a little further! I think vacuumed the pool and floated. I’m meeting my dad for dinner. It’s half price pizza, I put in 4 pieces into my fitness pal. I normally eat half of the large. I didn’t do so well food wise yesterday my weigh in went well though. Amy, where my dad lives, there’s a pear tree in the park. My grandpa used to always pick some, he said they were good!
Jan, it’s amazing how we feel like an adult or sophisticated by having a glass of wine, they sure do a good marketing job! I didn’t even like the taste of this wine but “felt” a certain way and ordered another. Have fun on your trip!
Cindy, do you think the kid had autism or something? Probably not, parents are dumb! I hope your knee feels better.

Hi All!
Found my voice and talked with PT person. She listened and we decided to change up my routine. She set up the "slide" don't know a better word and I would slide forward and back while moving one bent leg to a block in the middle and then do the other. Probably doesn't explain it well but really felt my knee got a much better work out. My balance still needs work! Also my sneakers which I wear very rarely have fallen apart and I either need to buy a new pair or duct tape them! There was a new "client" who had torn stuff in his leg and while listening in cause he never stopped talking, when he came home from the hospital his wife and step son had moved out and she had stripped the home of furniture, etc. He seemed like such a nice guy. I admit I love listening on conversations.
Amy, sounds like the garden is coming along quite well. Glad Bill is doing okay. Fingers crossed for good sleep for both of us. Last night I did well other than getting up once during the night and then at 7:30 a cramp was in my calf. I think I'm doing well with water but guess 64 ounces is just not enough.
Jan, hope your meeting went well! Enjoy your camping. I'm glad Finn and Scout are inside. There is no way Ainsley could be am outside cat with the wild life we have. Keep in mind that having a glass of wine does not define you. If you didn't have the glass how would your next day be? Hugs! Eww about too many males in the salon. But glad you got a pedi...paint over the pink!
Carole, hope you had a wonderful dinner with your Dad. Any plans for the weekend? I think the son definitely had issues but not sure what they were. His mother definitely wasn't coping well with them and I'm glad the Lab took him in. I love the pups stories. Ainsley was growling in her sleep...ummm, what are you dreaming?
Have an RA doctor appointment tomorrow. Sounds silly but DS's friend/boss is meeting him at the hospital cafeteria so they can "discuss" what needs to be done. I need to try driving more than 10 miles. We shall see.
Lawn has been mowed, trash is at the curb, Chase Bank is back online...guess most is okay in my world.
Hugs, Cindy

Hi girls. Just checking in. On our way to Yellowstone and will be without cell service or internet for several days. Yesterday we went to Teton National Park, rode the tram up the mountain, and went to the bbq by covered wagon and horse. No, the road being closed didn’t affect us. I swam today before we left. Can’t wait for Yellowstone! I’m writing this on the bus! Will post when I can! Good news! Our Lodge has internet! Old Faithful was amazing! Tomorrow we go to Mammoth Springs and The Grand Canyon of Yellowstone as well as see some waterfalls. DH is starting to complain. I’ve already had to speak to him once. We must be on different trips. I’m having a wonderful time!
