Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be!We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

NEW CHALLENGE! Declaration of Independence from Alcohol June 1 - July 4
Freedom from alcohol? Does that make sense to you? Are you held hostage to it, use it to calm yourself, to forget what is going on, to get through the evening or even the day? What once was an enjoyable treat has become a daily necessity? Or are you wondering if you are drifting into some kind of undefined, gray area of casual dependency? Then it is time to take a stand and declare yourself independent. It isn't easy, if it was there would be no need for the support of this board. But together we stand and together we can fight it.
Think about the freedom from alcohol. It isn't just about the money, but it is about your health and well-being.
How is your Pursuit of Happiness being affected by alcohol?
The focus of this board is to be ALCOHOL FREE. The focus of our new challenge is be alcohol free from June 1 - July 4, one day at a time. Starting June 1 and ending July 4, we are challenging ourselves to make the right choices, and go alcohol free. Can you let yourself be the person you want to be? Can you reach out for help if need be? The rules are simple, no alcohol for the challenge (understanding for a very special occasion is given). Post your stats daily, it is an essential component to success. One misstep does not mean throw away the day, the night, the week. We are works in progress.
This is a challenge about control....you are in control of what goes in your mouth. Give yourself the gift of THINDEPENDENCE and be selfish if that is what is needed to take care of you!
If you slip, post to the board and find some understanding. If you slip and report you are AF, you are not hurting us, you are hurting yourself. Slips happen, pick yourself up and start again. There is no judgement, we are very supportive of each other.
As with all of our challenges, everyone is welcomed. For some making the commitment to the challenge is the way to go. For others, one day at a time is the way to go. No one will be cut from the challenge. And feel free to post to the board even if you choose not to commit to the challenge. But you might want to ask yourself why.
June 1 - June 7: What is your PREAMBLE (your intention for the challenge?)
June 8 - June 14: What are your BIll of RIghts as a Weight Watcher? (the right to eat fruit, the right to exercise, the right to feel good about yourself, etc.)
June 15 - June 21: What is your pursuit of Happiness?
June 22 - June 29: What does Freedom mean to you by working this life plan?
July 4: Get ready for your own fireworks to happen by declaring your Truths! Kick tyranny of alcohol and a few extra pounds aside as we celebrate THINDEPENDENCE.

Had a good productive day, lots got done and checked off my list. Then DH bought me some wine and I think I "deserve" it to unwind, watch TV and check out. Does that thought ever go away? So hard to reprogram. Just keep plugging along until I find what works for me. Got most of my steps walking around Costco waiting for tires. I think Ive convinced myself that I am having a string of "bad luck" because I've lost my "lucky" black pebble and a little Buddha charm I have carried in my pockets for years. Who knows where they went, they were gone Tuesday while we were camping. The Buddha was DS's from his teacher in third or fourth grade when they were studying different religions. I don't know why I started carrying it around but now I feel like I'm missing something. I hope they went off together to help someone else who needs some good Karma, but since they've been gone I scraped up the van, exploded a diet root beer in the kitchen on myself, had a pancake sample at Costco and all the syrup in the bottom of that little paper wrapper ran all down my shirt and arm. Argh, I was a sticky mess. Will teach me to leave the sample foods alone!! Guess that led to the whoa is me attitude of may as well drink too. Now I need to let it all go and move forward. Today there is an art/craft fair in the park, the farmers market, a big fishing tournament going on and also the usual things to chose from to get done. I may go spy the craft fair and then maybe hit Lowe's or ? to look for a few more plants. Still have 2-3 empty pots in the back I could fill and any extra things can go up to the cabin to finish the planters up there. I'm going to get to the WW meeting up there on Tuesday if I can get myself moving in the morning. It will be about an hour drive and it starts at 9. Charging up my Fitbit so I will be ready to roll here soon. Hope you all have a great day. Thanks for keeping me OT and honest about my slips and slides. Will check in later. Jan Amy Thanks for starting us. Hope you are out walking with DH and DS and then enjoying your breakfast. I laughed about not telling DH about the farm "chores" now as he would just start to grump I wanted to ask about the Fitbit Premium, did you say you signed up once for the 6 free months. Do you have to pay for the year and then they add on the 6 months, or can you really do it free and then cancel before the payments start? I have been doing the meditations and using a few more features but I'm at the point where I just have to keep doing the same ones over and over. Would like to try Premium, but not ready to pay the $$ yet. Cathy Yay for OP and BOT. The scale is showing it!! I have an eggplant to use up too. Thanks for the ideas. Waving hi.

DH & I drove to Logan Farm Park yesterday to walk and check out the farmers market. It was hot! Fortunately a lot of the walking path is in the shade. Afterwards I went into the Dollar Tree (didn't buy anything), then on to Ingles. We dropped off a stool sample for Bill at the vet's, DH went into Krogers for one thing. When we got home I had lunch and couch time then started shelling pistachios for ice cream. Definitely need to get the shelled ones next time. We got fried chicken from Publix for dinner, had mashed potatoes, fresh green beans, sliced tomatoes with it. The ice cream turned out yummy, but there was too much volume and it leaked out over the top and made a huge mess. After dinner we played Winky Dink. The game lasted until almost 10, so we just watched some HGTV instead of getting involved in a show. I ended up going to bed after midnight and had trouble falling asleep.
It's a pretty day, but hot again. It's 91 right now. I need to get out to water, but not until the sun goes down. Something's been chewing on my garden, although it seems like most stuff will survive, just missing some leaves here and there.
Carole- Sorry you missed out on signing up for Hydrox, but it's probably a relief not having the big commitment. Bill is doing well. He can run pretty fast, but tends to lose his balance when he slows down or stands still.
Cathy- WTG getting BOT, walking. Enjoy your eggplant. I've been thinking about making eggplant parm.
Jan- WTG steps, stretches, PU, tracking, being accountable for the wine, having a productive day. Sorry you lost your lucky pebble and charm, hope they turn up. Hopefully your string of bad luck is over. I get Fitbit Premium for free with my AARP supplement. I'm not sure if I'm using much of the extra features, although I do like to dive into the sleep analysis.

Thanks for the info Amy. I looked on my AARP advantage and it shows Fitbit premium. I have my Renew code but then it just says go to the ap store and there I just get the 6 month free deal that Fitbit was offering. I just did that for now as I wouldn't have to pay until December and will know if I want to keep it. Or figure out the Aarp login or whatever. Stay cool. I did pretty much nothing today, snooped Aldi's and got a new door mat. Lazy day.

Hi friends! This morning I completed Deka strong. Itâs 10 zones (exercises) it was tough! It took me 24 minutes and 10 seconds. Not too bad for a 59 year old (so Iâm told!) Iâve got to go, sorry! Picking up dinner with DH. Love to all!

Hi girls. Yesterday we had 60 minutes to walk the 1.6 mile trail at Devils Tower. The tour director said it was an âeasyâ walk with a few inclines and descents. We made it back 5 minutes late to the bus, but we werenât the last ones. That was an 80 year old couple! đ Today we went to the Badlands and tonight we see the light up ceremony at Mount Rushmore. I even got a short nap in today! Tomorrow we go to see Crazy Horse and Mount Rushmore and then come back for the farewell dinner. Monday we get the shuttle at 11 from the hotel to the airport. We fly to Chicago and then to Pittsburgh. Weâll get home around 11. đ¤đ¤ I remember how quickly Amyâs trip went. But it doesnât feel that way on my end! Weâve seen and learned a lot!

Hi All!
Had every good intention to post last night even with the Celtics losing but the company was happy to keep chatting. I think the Tuxedo cake from Costco kept them...milk chocolate mousse, white chocolate mousse, and devil food cake layers was delicious. By the time they left my knee was seriously aching and I took a RX pill. I still didn't fall asleep until four AM. Today was just a lazy day. Realized I still needed to pay some bills...of course though due on the 15th, won't go through till the 17th. We shall see. I'm kinda whatever.
Amy, thanks for getting us started. I bought shelled pistachios on Amazon...cheaper than Costco. I can just imagine how yummy the ice cream is. I still have my Blue Bunny pistachio ice cream in the freezer. It was fairly hot today but the uneven ground is not making me want to go out and water. GOT on schedule tonight? Are you enjoying it? Did you watch Breaking Bad?
Jan, I'm sorry about the streak of bad luck. Have had one of those terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day. I hope your today day ended on an up beat note. I still think about wine/champagne. DS's friends that were over last night don't drink so it makes it easier but I could slip back to old ways. I just think don't beat yourself up. It was an indulgence that won't be repeated for many and maybe many more days. It's the slippery slope to watch out for that is hard to crawl out of and regain ground. Hugs!
Vicki, your trip sounds like a wonderful time. I loved Mt. Rushmore....the approach to it was amazing. Enjoy the farewell dinner. Did you meet anyone that you will want to stay in touch with? Happy for you enjoying the experience.
Carole, yes for completing Deka Strong! I think you did great! Hope you and DH had a wonderful dinner!
Cathy, glad you DD got home and plane is not easy anymore. I can remember dressing up to take a plane trip. The scale is cooperating!
Hi Liz, love the FB photos!
Hi Murphy, please post.
Just tired, probably from doing nothing. Back to icing!
Hugs to all, and happy Father's Day to all of our Fathers with us or with us in heart.
Hugs, Cindy

Laundry is on the agenda for today along with a 30 minute walk while reading and figuring out what to make for lunch. There will be reading and reviewing, too. Talked to our daughter for awhile yesterday - her garden is thriving and she is doing some preserving. Hope to talk to our son and his family this evening.
I've read your posts but have no time to do personals - thinking of you and hoping you have a wonderful day today.
