Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be!We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

NEW CHALLENGE! Declaration of Independence from Alcohol June 1 - July 4
Freedom from alcohol? Does that make sense to you? Are you held hostage to it, use it to calm yourself, to forget what is going on, to get through the evening or even the day? What once was an enjoyable treat has become a daily necessity? Or are you wondering if you are drifting into some kind of undefined, gray area of casual dependency? Then it is time to take a stand and declare yourself independent. It isn't easy, if it was there would be no need for the support of this board. But together we stand and together we can fight it.
Think about the freedom from alcohol. It isn't just about the money, but it is about your health and well-being.
How is your Pursuit of Happiness being affected by alcohol?
The focus of this board is to be ALCOHOL FREE. The focus of our new challenge is be alcohol free from June 1 - July 4, one day at a time. Starting June 1 and ending July 4, we are challenging ourselves to make the right choices, and go alcohol free. Can you let yourself be the person you want to be? Can you reach out for help if need be? The rules are simple, no alcohol for the challenge (understanding for a very special occasion is given). Post your stats daily, it is an essential component to success. One misstep does not mean throw away the day, the night, the week. We are works in progress.
This is a challenge about control....you are in control of what goes in your mouth. Give yourself the gift of THINDEPENDENCE and be selfish if that is what is needed to take care of you!
If you slip, post to the board and find some understanding. If you slip and report you are AF, you are not hurting us, you are hurting yourself. Slips happen, pick yourself up and start again. There is no judgement, we are very supportive of each other.
As with all of our challenges, everyone is welcomed. For some making the commitment to the challenge is the way to go. For others, one day at a time is the way to go. No one will be cut from the challenge. And feel free to post to the board even if you choose not to commit to the challenge. But you might want to ask yourself why.
June 1 - June 7: What is your PREAMBLE (your intention for the challenge?)
June 8 - June 14: What are your BIll of RIghts as a Weight Watcher? (the right to eat fruit, the right to exercise, the right to feel good about yourself, etc.)
June 15 - June 21: What is your pursuit of Happiness?
June 22 - June 29: What does Freedom mean to you by working this life plan?
July 4: Get ready for your own fireworks to happen by declaring your Truths! Kick tyranny of alcohol and a few extra pounds aside as we celebrate THINDEPENDENCE.

Good Saturday morning all! I had a good day yesterday. Made a quick trip to the vet because they were in need of towels. I really didn't need 7 towels so I donated some as well as some flannel sheets. Tyrine has been a little concerned because it looks like Scout's nose is a little swollen. I gave him a round of antibiotics but it didn't seem to change anything. His nose isn't sore at all but I'm going to take him in a couple of weeks and they will sedate him and take x-rays. He has no teeth but it's possible there is still a tooth root there. I will be going to stay with my brother for a weekend July 12-14 and Tyrine will be keeping him so it will work out good with timing. Today I'm doing a bit of cleaning and will take a box of clothes to donate.
Carole - I go to church with Morgan Wallace's parents and family! He grew up here in North Knoxville! They are the nicest people in the world and I've worked with them in the Motel Ministry for a long time. I didn't even know they were related until recently! LOL
Amy - is your garden keeping you busy? Stuff is just starting to come in here at the farmer's market. I want to get some more green beans to freeze. I did pick up a couple of tomatoes at Walmart that were really good!
Jan - I take it you are at the cabin? Have fun!
Cindy - I have thought of you several times and should have called just to catch up.
Like I said yesterday, I'm really doing well and happier than I've been in a long time. Not sure what has changed except my attitude! It's just as easy to be happy as it is to be sad right? Hope everyone has a wonderful day! Murphy

Solstice Full Moon evening I set my intentions for the rest of the year. I looked at the number of weeks remaining in 2024 and decided I could be at goal weight (or very near to it) by 2025 if I make healthy choices, hydrate, track, stay positive, and stay within point/calories daily. So...that is the plan and also to revisit my intentions morning and evening.
My husband and I had our teeth cleaned this morning, stopped for produce on the way back home, and had leftovers for lunch. The garden is still not producing yet but hopefully soon.
Our daughter is in Cleveland this weekend so won't talk to her today. My son is in China on a business trip so won't talk to him tomorrow and as our granddaughters are at a swim meet...may not get to talk to them, either. It will be a quiet weekend. Next weekend I will be going to an early 4th of July event at one of the American Women's eco-tourist sites and taking cabbage salad. We are not having burgers or hot dogs so will take something along for us to eat in case my husband opts not to eat any of the potluck fare fearing flies might have touched down on them.
Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

DH & I drove to Logan Farm Park to check out the farmers market and walk. We saw a couple of deer in the woods. We planned it so the last bit of our walk was along the path where the blackberry bushes are. We filled up a quart sized box and part of the picking was in the shade. I'll cook the berries and strain for the juice today, hopefully I have enough for jelly. We stopped at Ingles on the way home for a few groceries. After lunch I had couch time, napped a bit. I went out around 5:30 to water the garden plants and flowers, sure hope we get some rain soon. I soaked in the tub for a while b/c I managed to get dirty watering. DH grilled salmon for dinner, I made pasta salad, also had some broccoli and some of my peach salsa. After dinner I watched GOT and stitched. I was in bed before midnight and slept pretty well.
It's another sunny day heading to the 90's. I managed not to get into the poison ivy picking blackberries but I do have several bites, probably chiggers. I have 2 on my foot that keep filling us with fluid, like a blister. I'll be glad when the itching stops.
Murphy- Thanks for getting us started, so glad you're back, doing well and feeling happy. WTG cleaning house and purging. Hope Scout’s nose swelling turns out not to be anything serious. Enjoy your upcoming visit with your DB. I am busy with the garden, always something to do.
Jan- WTG steps, PU, stretches, AP, blue dot, AF. Yay for your cousin cleaning before leaving. Hope you enjoyed your salad. Have you met your sis’ MIL? I guess you just have to have faith that your produce will be ready for the fair. It’s Cory’s 30th high school reunion, he texted that he was partying like it was 1994. Dipladenia look a lot like mandavilla, not sure what the difference is. I’ve picked enough of the asparagus beans to cook for dinner tonight.
Carole- Yay for a fun trip to Minneapolis to see Morgan Wallace.
Cindy- Yay for seeing the strawberry moon, I forgot to look. DD likes to chat at night while I’m watching TV. I have to hit the pause button b/c I can’t listen to 2 things at the same time.
Cathy- WTG planning on being at your goal weight by 2025. Safe travels to your daughter and son.

Hi girls. Yesterday was our 44th anniversary. We opted not to go out since we ate out so much while away. I fixed dinner and DH brought home a lemon dessert. DD and Rylee are on their way down. Life is good!
Amy: I read your post and thought, what are asparagus beans! 😂 Reading about your jelly reminded me that my suitcase got flagged going through TSA at the airport because of 2 little jars of huckleberry jam I bought. They let me keep them. 🤷🏼♀️
I want to clean up my kitchen before DD gets here. Stay cool!

I decided to strip the bed, gather up the rugs and towels and just head to town to do the laundry. I usually take it home but figured I could sit there and knit, get a few groceries and be done with a chore on a messy day and not have to worry about it at home. I got my big salad at the salad bar and a piece of chicken from the deli. Came home and added a few things which got me up to 35 plants for the week I have enough salad and chicken for tomorrow, I don't think I've cooked once since I've been here, one BBQ on the grill when sis was here but my cousin did the sides. The cookies I got into yesterday are gone and I didn't let anything other distractions just in my cart when I was at the store. I just plan to stay warm on the couch and knit, read, relax the rest of the day. Trying to avoid a nap as it's already 3:30. The rain on the roof and the cold sure just make me want to snuggle under the blankets tho. Not sure if I'll see sis tomorrow or not, wonder if they are all going stir crazy at their house. At least they have TV. I will head home Monday for about a week. No other big news. HOpe you are all having a nice Saturday. It was too cloudy for me to see the moon last night, but I did look out the window a few times to check. Even with the rain the hummers are putting on a show to keep me entertained. Jan Murphy Glad you are happy and have a good attitude adjustment going on Well, of course, I didn't even know who Morgan Wallen is? Just don't listen to a lot of country or follow the celebrity news. So now I learned something. HOpe Scout is OK and glad it will work out during the time you go stay with your brother. GG Happy Anniversary. Have fun with DD and Rylee. Glad you got to keep your jam. We brought 2 kinds of berry jam home from Oregon. Cathy Good for you re-evaluating your goals and setting your mind to the task. We know what to do. Hope you can talk to everyone next week. Amy Sounds like the garden is coming along. Did you get enough juice to make the jam? Sorry about the bug bites, we've been pretty lucky up here this year, not even many mosquitos. When do you leave for Indiana, is it just you and DH going? I've met the MIL, she seems fine, a bit hyper or maybe just nerves around all the crazy in the family. Sounds like Cory is having fun. Carole That's quite a drive for a concert, and now to Ohio to the zoo. Good for you making the most of your summer. Waving hi
