Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be!We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

NEW CHALLENGE! Declaration of Independence from Alcohol June 1 - July 4
Freedom from alcohol? Does that make sense to you? Are you held hostage to it, use it to calm yourself, to forget what is going on, to get through the evening or even the day? What once was an enjoyable treat has become a daily necessity? Or are you wondering if you are drifting into some kind of undefined, gray area of casual dependency? Then it is time to take a stand and declare yourself independent. It isn't easy, if it was there would be no need for the support of this board. But together we stand and together we can fight it.
Think about the freedom from alcohol. It isn't just about the money, but it is about your health and well-being.
How is your Pursuit of Happiness being affected by alcohol?
The focus of this board is to be ALCOHOL FREE. The focus of our new challenge is be alcohol free from June 1 - July 4, one day at a time. Starting June 1 and ending July 4, we are challenging ourselves to make the right choices, and go alcohol free. Can you let yourself be the person you want to be? Can you reach out for help if need be? The rules are simple, no alcohol for the challenge (understanding for a very special occasion is given). Post your stats daily, it is an essential component to success. One misstep does not mean throw away the day, the night, the week. We are works in progress.
This is a challenge about control....you are in control of what goes in your mouth. Give yourself the gift of THINDEPENDENCE and be selfish if that is what is needed to take care of you!
If you slip, post to the board and find some understanding. If you slip and report you are AF, you are not hurting us, you are hurting yourself. Slips happen, pick yourself up and start again. There is no judgement, we are very supportive of each other.
As with all of our challenges, everyone is welcomed. For some making the commitment to the challenge is the way to go. For others, one day at a time is the way to go. No one will be cut from the challenge. And feel free to post to the board even if you choose not to commit to the challenge. But you might want to ask yourself why.
June 1 - June 7: What is your PREAMBLE (your intention for the challenge?)
June 8 - June 14: What are your BIll of RIghts as a Weight Watcher? (the right to eat fruit, the right to exercise, the right to feel good about yourself, etc.)
June 15 - June 21: What is your pursuit of Happiness?
June 22 - June 29: What does Freedom mean to you by working this life plan?
July 4: Get ready for your own fireworks to happen by declaring your Truths! Kick tyranny of alcohol and a few extra pounds aside as we celebrate THINDEPENDENCE.

DH & I took the golf cart to the nature trail to walk, enjoying the shade and the humidity seemed better. When we got back I planted most of the plants I bought last Friday, hopefully everything survives in this heat. I watered what needed watering, deadheaded the flowers, picked 3 tomatoes. There was more to do but I needed to get cleaned up for my hair cut. I went a little shorter and she had to shave the hairline in the back, the prickliness is bugging me, but I guess it will grow. After the hair salon I went to Hobby Lobby and Walmart. I bought a trellis for my dipladenia at Hobby Lobby and various stuff at Walmart. Hobby Lobby has fall and some Christmas stuff out. When I got home it was after 3pm and I had a bit of couch time. We had pulled chicken sandwiches for dinner with fresh corn on the cob from Walmart, chips and dip. After dinner I watched GOT (now on season 5) and stitched. I started a Nicholas Sparks book before bed, had trouble falling asleep so I got up and read some more.
It's another sunny day, supposed to get to 99 degrees today. Will go to water aerobics at 9:30.
Jan- WTG steps, PU, stretches, blue dot, AF, going to WW meeting. Hope the congestion and headache is better today. Your fair entries sound fun. Glad you enjoyed the AF beer and DH has gone back to it. You may not have enough time for the seed potatoes. I planted mine in March and am just now harvesting them. The frost will kill them. We had 23 people at water aerobics on Monday, seems like there are a lot of regulars and new people each time. DH complains constantly about his aches and pains but refuses to even try water aerobics or yoga. I think he's afraid of being embarrassed in front of a group of mostly women.
Murphy- Thanks for getting us started. WTG cleaning the bathrooms and stuff organized. Yay for having access to the fitness center in September. Sorry you were up so early this morning. I may have still been awake at 3:30.
Cindy- Waving "Hi" to you!
Cathy- Yay for enjoying an anniversary toast with DH.

M-W Word of the Day
What It Means Zero-sum describes something, such as a game, mentality, or situation, in which any gain corresponds directly with an equivalent loss. // Dividing up the budget is a zero-sum game.

I may be opting for Iced Tea if they have it as I'm kind of coffee-ed out this morning. Still feeling groggy and low energy when I get up, but getting better. Head has cleared up and today may just be from staying up later reading. I was awake a bit after 5 but was able to go back to sleep until 6:15. I am reading The Women, by Kristin Hannah, easy to get caught up in. After coffee I need to run a few errands. Want to find a frame for a x stitch piece and also need a few groceries from Aldi's. Going to marinate chicken thighs and BBQ, with a red potato nicose salad to use some of my green beans. Our eggplant was good, and by not frying the eggplant I don't think the points are too bad, just the cheese. When I came down today there are pecan danish on the kitchen counter, means DH went out to the store after I'd gone up to read. Going to do my best to avoid them all day. If I can just give up one or two snacks a day and save those 300-500 calories, I'd be in my range everyday. Duh. But I just seem to add on that one more thing each day. Work to be mindful this week and make better choices, Like Cathy said!! Need to get moving. Will check in later this afternoon. Goal is to be able to report that NO just jumped in my cart anywhere. Jan Murphy Sorry about the early wake-up. Hope you get your nap in and feel refreshed at choir. I saw at our grocery this week the Outshine fruit popsicles are $1.99 with their coupon. Going to see if they have any of the SF ones. Cathy I'd say an anniversary deserves a toast and today is a new day. Amy Have fun at Aerobics. My DH would be the same way. He doesn't even like to take his shirt off to go swimming, then add in the dancing around, no way. I figured the potatoes wouldn't make it, maybe next year. I'm hoping when sis is retired next year we can do more in her garden again. She just couldn't even get motivated to plant this year, and her DH is no help Do you thing the class would ever break into 2 sessions if they get too many or is the pool big enough? Waving hi.

Well I did get a 2 hour nap on the couch this morning so I guess I'm caught up on my sleep! LOL. I just do it in shifts! The only downside is that I have not been motivated to do anything around the house today! Fortunately I don't have anything pressing but I feel like I should be doing something! I fixed a salad for lunch since it's still so beastly hot. My cousin was without AC yesterday and was terribly miserable. Of course, she tends to stay miserable most of the time and doesn't hesitate to let people know about it. She got it fixed temporarily this morning for only $40 but did not appreciate it when I said I was grateful that the outage was only one day and the repair cost was so low! LOL
Amy - I am excited about the benefit of the fitness center. Of course, it would be good for me to move a bit now so I don't absolutely die when I start! LOL
Jan - you have will power of steel if you can stay out of the danish! I'm not a huge sweets person but that sure would be tempting! I have an eggplant in the fridge that I need to do something with. How do you cook yours?
Choir tonight and then in the morning I'm going to Medic to donate blood. Haven't been in a while and I need to get back into regular donations. I'm now donating and designating it for a family member because I'm personally covered through about 2030. Anyway - everyone have a great rest of your day! Murphy

Hi girls. Iām back to some busy days and just havenāt posted. Today I was down .2, which really surprised me! I thought I would be up for sure! Less activity and being -80 in the hole, Iāll take it as a gift and try to do better this week! It really took me awhile to get out of vacation mode, both from catching up on sleep and my eating! We have DSās schnauzer staying with us while they go to a baseball tournament and then on vacation. Iām at least getting out with her twice a day for walks! I had to laugh, my Fitbit progress report for the week showed I was down over 46,000 steps from when we were away! š Iāve been reading the posts. One of these days Iāll get back to personals. Tonight I have a Bible School meeting. I need to get dinner and get ready to go.

Hi All!
Is whelmed a word? I'm not overwhelmed nor under whelmed...just whelmed. Been dealing with bee stings, some sort of rash on the top of my feet and ankles and the dermatologist can't figured it though prescribed a cream. It doesn't itch but is ugly. DS has been talking a lot when home and I do my best but at times I just want to check out. My friend who I go out to lunch with every so often has been visiting because her husband is getting treatments for cancer. She knows he is not going to make it but as long as he wants to try treatments she goes along. They live about two hours away from the nearest cancer facility. There is such an overload of cancer patients that she can't go local to my home but has to go another 1.5 hours away for the next few treatments. Traffic is horrendous. The route I had been taking to go north is now going south and south going north....do the semis know this? No. This is just adding to her stress. Her daughter was going to do a wedding renewal vow ceremony. When she and her husband were married, it was a civil ceremony so she thought it would be nice if her (adopted) father walked her down the aisle. Friend's DH is 6'2" and is weighing in at 149 and it does not look like the ceremony will take place.
Did my RA visit...being whelmed, I felt it was a waste of time. Nice billing hour for her. All my blood work was good but now need to add RX B12. My thought is why isn't my PC concerned and suggesting this? X-rays show I'm riddled with osteo (like duh, lol), like no kidding. Did my eval with the PT director and he feels I've made good improvement but could make more in spite of the arthritis. So guess I will continue. Trying to kneel and get back up without support...what fun! Baby steps.
Did the dental surgeon today. Surprise was that the insurance person from my dental office had joined the surgeon office after quitting the dentist office in April. She said she was much happier. It was nice to see her. Surgeon is going to make a few adjustments...slowly. I've been chewing up the inside of my lip a bit...enough to be concern for me. It will be out of my pocket but feel it is worth it.
Still only driving locally, not to Dallas. Enough of my "whelm".
Murphy, welcome back! Good to see your posts. Hope choir goes well. How is Scout doing? Wonderful that you are back to donating blood. How is your DB doing? DSIL? Glad your clean out went well. I really need to get to that task for every room! Yay for Humana covering the fitness center!
Amy, sounds like a fun time harvesting! I had high hopes for this year but guess that won't be happening. With heat index we are at about 108 degrees. Trying to keep the birds fed and water and keep the butterfly puddling stone going. I've noticed neighbors are just letting the landscaping go. That is a lot of people at water aerobics. Hope everyone is there for a good time! It's been awhile since I've been in Hobby Lobby but it doesn't surprise me that there are some Christmas decorations out! I should go and buy plastic flowers for my front planters. Don't see me planting. I have complete faith that you are going to make your goal weight!
Jan, I love pecan danishes! Not sure I could avoid them. Cheese is my other weakness. Been eating shaved blackforest ham wrapped in muenster. I need to look into Kristen Hannah books. Just finished another series of seven cozy mysteries. Easy reads and yet at times can make me cry...makes my eyes feel better, so win win. Any word on "The Ring"? Hope nothing jumped into your cart today.
Cathy, happy belated anniversary! Love the facebook photos! Love the memory of gloves! Brought back lots.
Vicki, how are you doing? all settled back in from vacation?
Carole, loving the FB photos! Looks like you are having a wonderful time!
Hi Liz!
DS just came home and brought me a dozen roses, they are the orangey yellow ones tipped in red. I know he knows I've been stressed. Perks up the family room! He needs to be out the door early tomorrow so will be heading to bed early. I have therapy in the AM and will take the back roads to stay off the highway. At least it is somewhat local.
Hugs to all, Cindy

Hi friends! We went to the Indianapolis Zoo today on our way home. It was incredible! The area they have for chimpanzees and orangutans are awesome! The orangutans can climb up to a 90 foot high platform to sit or they have steel ropes they can swing on to get to the next platformāall 90 feet high!! The chimpanzees have an open air but enclosed walkway throughout half the park about 40 feet high that leads to different areas they can play. The dolphin pool was a room full of glass you can see them swim everywhere! Iām heading to bed. Need to get BOT!

Went to see a friend getting ready to go in for chemotherapy treatment number 2 of 6. She is in good spirits, losing her hair, and seemed tired. After that Rosalie and I went to look at a dress I had on layaway, tried it on and then another Anne Kleine polyester/elastane dress that I didn't realize needed to be dry cleaned till I got home. Each dress was 20 dollars at the outlet but if I have to dry clean both of them...not sure it is worth it for summer dresses. Will go to a dry cleaners with Rosalie and see what they say.
I've read but no time for personals today.
