Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be!We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

NEW CHALLENGE! Declaration of Independence from Alcohol June 1 - July 4
Freedom from alcohol? Does that make sense to you? Are you held hostage to it, use it to calm yourself, to forget what is going on, to get through the evening or even the day? What once was an enjoyable treat has become a daily necessity? Or are you wondering if you are drifting into some kind of undefined, gray area of casual dependency? Then it is time to take a stand and declare yourself independent. It isn't easy, if it was there would be no need for the support of this board. But together we stand and together we can fight it.
Think about the freedom from alcohol. It isn't just about the money, but it is about your health and well-being.
How is your Pursuit of Happiness being affected by alcohol?
The focus of this board is to be ALCOHOL FREE. The focus of our new challenge is be alcohol free from June 1 - July 4, one day at a time. Starting June 1 and ending July 4, we are challenging ourselves to make the right choices, and go alcohol free. Can you let yourself be the person you want to be? Can you reach out for help if need be? The rules are simple, no alcohol for the challenge (understanding for a very special occasion is given). Post your stats daily, it is an essential component to success. One misstep does not mean throw away the day, the night, the week. We are works in progress.
This is a challenge about control....you are in control of what goes in your mouth. Give yourself the gift of THINDEPENDENCE and be selfish if that is what is needed to take care of you!
If you slip, post to the board and find some understanding. If you slip and report you are AF, you are not hurting us, you are hurting yourself. Slips happen, pick yourself up and start again. There is no judgement, we are very supportive of each other.
As with all of our challenges, everyone is welcomed. For some making the commitment to the challenge is the way to go. For others, one day at a time is the way to go. No one will be cut from the challenge. And feel free to post to the board even if you choose not to commit to the challenge. But you might want to ask yourself why.
June 1 - June 7: What is your PREAMBLE (your intention for the challenge?)
June 8 - June 14: What are your BIll of RIghts as a Weight Watcher? (the right to eat fruit, the right to exercise, the right to feel good about yourself, etc.)
June 15 - June 21: What is your pursuit of Happiness?
June 22 - June 29: What does Freedom mean to you by working this life plan?
July 4: Get ready for your own fireworks to happen by declaring your Truths! Kick tyranny of alcohol and a few extra pounds aside as we celebrate THINDEPENDENCE.

Good morning all! I guess my new wakeup time is 3:30 AM! Have done that several days in a row now! Maybe a nap this afternoon. I have a 9:00 appointment to donate blood. I've donated enough that I am personally covered thought 2032 so now I'm donating and designating family members. That will cover them for a year. Then back home and will just work around the house. We had a very good choir rehearsal last night. We will have the next two Weds nights off from rehearsal. That will be a nice summer break! Will check back when I get back home. Murphy

Water aerobics was good, 3 guys showed up! I told DH I was going to nag him about going until he at least tried it once. The leader (who is the Activities Director) announced that they were going to be doing free chair aerobics and yoga classes in the fall when water aerobics is over. When I got back we were heading out to walk when Charm called. She's the former co-worker that coined the OWLs term. She's back at DMC in a management position and had a few questions for me. We chatted for a while then finally made it out to walk. It had gotten pretty hot, but the nature trail has some shade and we had a bit of a breeze. When we got back I puttered a bit outside, picked some Anaheim chile peppers for a casserole, some strawberries and tomatoes. I watered the front porch plants then decided it was too hot to do anything more outside. I had lunch and some couch time, made the chile rellenos casserole, put it in the oven, then went back out to water the garden and lower porch plants since a lot of it was now in the evening shade. The water pressure was bad, I suppose a lot of other folks were also watering. DH grilled chicken thighs for dinner, I made a few slices of fried green tomato with a tomato that had got knocked off the stem. After dinner I stitched and watched GOT. We got some rain around 9pm!!! I was in bed a little earlier than usual and slept well.
It's cloudy this morning with a pretty good chance of more rain. We're hoping to get the lawn mowed before it does. It's supposed to be about 10 degrees cooler today, but more humid.
Jan- WTG steps, PU, stretches, blue dot, AF, your macros looked pretty good. Hope you had fun with the girls at Hardees. Glad you are enjoying the Kristen Hannah book. I hear you on snacks putting you over the top. The Danish would be hard to resist. The pool is big enough to accommodate more people and the leader has a loud voice that carries, LOL.
Murphy- Thanks for getting us started. Glad you got a nap and choir rehearsal. WTG donating so much blood. When we were in Europe we were served some eggplant that was thinly sliced and grilled. When I make eggplant parm I cut it in 1/2 inch slices, dip it in an egg wash, then panko bread crumbs, spritz it with olive oil then bake it in a 400 degree oven for about 20 minutes, flipping it about halfway through. It would make a good side dish, even without the tomato sauce and cheese.
Vicki- Yay for keeping busy, scale down. Enjoy the dog sitting. Sounds like we both did a lot of walking on our vacations.
Cindy- Whelmed is a good word. Sorry about the bee stings, rash, all those appointments, your friend's DH battle with cancer. Hope the proposed treatment makes your mouth feel better and the B12 gives you more vim and vigor. Yay for the beautiful roses from DS. Thanks for the faith in my reaching goal. It's been years since I've been able to lose like this and it's still kind of hard to believe.
Carole- I've not been to the Indy Zoo in decades. Sounds like we need to plan to go on one of our visits up there.
Cathy- Glad you were able to visit your friend undergoing chemo. Hope it works out with the dresses from the outlet.

June 22: 194.4 June 29: July 4: Celebrate! Final weigh in: Good morning all. Had a little detour, while there is still danish on the counter, I had 1 bite, last night DH came home with a can of wine and a cherry kringle! I guess the can was a "novelty" and he decided he wanted a beer so brought something home for me. Today's a new day, I'll probably just be wishing I had saved it til tonight because I don't know how I will get through the "debate" or duel that DH will certainly have on. Of course it's like the car wreck that you just can't look away. After all the hype, will just be glad when it's done, at least for now. I'm feeling a bit better about my relationship with the wine witch. Not feeling like she is controlling me, and once in awhile I can make a choice to be AIM. I'd like to say I will never drink again, and I may still get there, but I also don't like beating myself up every time I have a glass of wine so will be accountable and move on. It does help when I know I will be sharing here in the morning, makes that "one more" not sound so enticing Yesterday I found some cheap frames at the thrift store so need to get my cross stitch ironed and framed up. Will go to knitting today and get some help on my little sweater so I can keep moving on that. Not sure if I'll go to lunch, 2 of the girls from coffee yesterday said they wouldn't be there so would probably have to go with the other gang and I could make better choices and eat up LO at home. We'll see. No other big news, will see what the day brings, always plenty to do outside, barely keeping up with the weeds! At least it's been a bit cooler and could be out a bit yesterday. Have a great day all. Will check back later. Jan Murphy GL with the blood donation. For my eggplant I dip the slices in egg and then a mix of breadcrumbs and parm cheese mixed together. Put on a baking sheet at 400 in the over for about 15 or more minutes until brown and cooked. Then layer with sauce and mozerella or you could cut it into salad or whatever if you didn't want the whole dish. Not frying is a lot less calories Cindy I like the word whelm. Hope today leaves you feeling less of it. No info on the ring business, all hush hush I guess until something happens. I'm not even telling DH as I don't want him badgering DS You always have so much happening with Drs, friends and family, a lot of extra stress to deal with. I really enjoyed some of K Hannah books, and others are pretty much fluff. The Great Alone and the Nightingale were my favorites. Carole The zoo pictures were amazing. How fun. What's your next big adventure? Cathy That scale is being stubborn. Hope the dresses work out and don't always need to be dry cleaned, deal breaker for me ha ha Amy Hope you enjoyed your pool day. I'm sure you're posting right now Last night I made a red potato "nicoise" salad that used some of my green beans. So much better when they are fresh from the garden. I'm going to try to put in some more seeds and see if I can get a later crop still in another big pot. Waving hi.

Back from Medic. No issues with the donation and my iron level was 13.1! That's really good. I am so thankful that it was through screening for donations that I realized I was borderline anemic last year. I've been taking iron since then and I do feel so much better.
Amy - hopefully DH will feel more comfortable going for water exercise now that he knows other men are there too!
Jan - loved both your and Amy's suggestions for the eggplant! I think I will try that this evening. I might put the slices in my air fryer rather than the oven.
GG - yay for the scale being nice! Enjoy dog sitting!
I am going to make some breakfast sandwiches to put in the freezer. I bought a silicone pan that you can use for muffin tops but it's also great for cooking eggs in the oven. Makes them the perfect size for a sandwich thin or light English muffin. Hope everyone has a great day! Murphy

Hi all. Just checking in. Pretty much can't win on the better eating on knitting day I took the Kringle, someone had homemade brownies she served with a fresh strawberry. One lady had been to Mackinaw Island and bought 5 kinds of fudge that was cut up with different colored toothpicks in and a list to vote for your favorite. We know how to snack right Yikes. The funny thing was there was @3 pieces of danish Kringle left and I was bringing it home, Why? Went in to use the bathroom before heading out to lunch with my friend. Set it on the edge of the sink and when I stood up it fell into the sink, which made the automatic water turn on. Problem solved, I put it in the garbage, message taken. Ordered a nice Chef salad at lunch and brought quite a bit home for tomorrow or whenever. Just dipped into the dressing so it wouldn't be all soggy to save. They always give you such big portions these days no matter where you go. Stopped at the nursery on the way home, lots of plants on sale but I was strong and didn't buy. I still have things to work on here. I was looking for charcoal or gravel to put in the bottom of a terrarium I'm making for the fair. Didn't want to buy a big bag and the clerk there said check the pet store in the fish aquarium area where you can maybe get a small amount. On the list for tomorrow. Did see some really pretty ones that were made up there and got some ideas. No big plans for this evening, DS is starting the US soccer game and then it will be debates. I read for awhile upstairs when I got home and didn't get much else done today. I need to go out to see if there is a dead bird in the backyard, and it wasn't even cat related. I was watching some birds fighting over the feeder, a lot of black bird bullies. They were chasing around a sparrow I think and then attacking it on the ground. I went out to chase them away but the sparrow was already pretty done. Never saw that before. Not going to put out anymore food for a bit. Don't know why so many grackles and blackbirds lately, never had them before. DS called while I was gone today but glad his dad got to talk to him. He said he sounded good, been in on some crazy things in the OR and learning new things. Can't wait to see him next month. Hope you all had a great Friday Eve. Enjoy your evening. Jan Murphy Glad the blood donation went well and your Iron is up. I probably should have mine checked and see if it's also making me tired. I had had some times when I went to do plasma donation that I was turned away for low iron. I'll bet the eggplant in an air fryer would turn out really good. We have one, built in with a convection oven, at the cabin, but not here. I know people swear by them. I think a round of "fried" eggplant with just a bit of cheese on top and some sauce on a bun would make a great sandwich. Amy I laughed after reading that you had chicken thighs last night, we are on the same wave length. Hope DH will give in and at least try the water once with you, even to just get you to stop bugging him Does the instructor stand up out of the pool and give directions? I think most days my macros look better than my points I do have some big swings in protein. Helps to drink a Fairlife on the low days. I enjoyed seeing the friends at Hardees. I never wanted to order any of their breakfasts as they are killer in points. My friend said you can just ask them to make you a side of scrambled eggs and get toast or bisquit, so I did and that worked out pretty well. Also eveyone goes because the senior coffee is 70c. And it's refill your own so the old guys just sit there all day I had gotten iced tea and same price with free refills. Good deal. Glad they will continue some extra yoga classes after the summer. I just got the senior center bulletin and see a slow flow yoga and stretching on Wednesday afternoons. Need to add in some more activity and may be a good place to start. They also have senior sneakers and other things there. I think they are less crowded than the Y. Will do some more research in the fall. It's starting to cloud over and we may get rain tonight. Was much nicer today, high 70's. Need to get back in the yard tomorrow. Have a great evening.

Hi friends! We, yes me and DH! Went to see a band outside tonight. It was country and they were pretty good. It’s so fun to watch all the little kids dance in front of the band! It was cool out today. I want to transplant some flowers but I just haven’t had the gardening itch this summer. Need to spray paint a pot too. Maybe it’ll come back soon. I had a good eating day today. I even skipped the dessert truck they had tonight. I’ll try for personals tomorrow. Sleep well!!
