Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be!We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

Labor of Love NEW CHALLENGE July 5 through September 2
The word labor implies a specific task or effort, many times painful or arduous. A labor of love is doing something because you really want to, not because of any monetary reward you might get for it even though it involves hard work.
This challenge is all about a labor of love, reminding yourself to love yourself so it becomes your norm.
How often do we do something for someone else because it makes them happy and in turn makes us happy. But as the saying goes “how can you love someone else if you can’t love yourself”.
There are many ways we don’t show ourselves love. We are harder on ourselves than on anyone else. We go over and over “why did I drink too much” and the ever popular "if I lost weight I would be so much happier”. We are not showing ourselves love by overeating and over drinking, we are doing the opposite. To start, give yourself grace and tell yourself yesterday is done, tomorrow isn’t here, so let’s deal with the present.
We worry about so many things, things we have no control over. Resilience, happiness and freedom comes from knowing what to care about and what to not let us get bogged down. Let go of things that do not work for you, help you, or encourage you. It is hard! You want to be a good person but be good to yourself first. Send out positivity but give yourself positivity.
We all have bad days, nothing goes right, nasty people out and about, stress levels are over the top and you have no control. This can be true in many ways but your control is to step away, love yourself.
Journal it, put it down on paper, and then let it go.
So each morning give yourself an affirmation. Here are some suggestions:
#1. I am worthy. #2. I am enough. #3. I am beautiful inside and out. #4. Even my “flaws” have good and helpful aspects. #5. I love and approve of myself. #6. I am delighted with who I am. #7. I fully approve of who I am, even as I better myself. #8. I approve of myself and love myself completely. #9. I am happy in my own skin and in my own circumstances. #10. I am surrounded by love. #11. I am treasured for who I really am. #12. I am worthy of happiness and love. #13. I enjoy my own company as I get in touch with my true self. #14. I am at peace and happy when I’m alone.
It may sound like Stuart Smiley but go with it!

Everyone decided they were hungry around 3pm yesterday so we headed to Kokomo to eat at Grindstone Charley's. We got an appetizer of pub pretzels with queso that also came with tortilla chips. Weird, but good. I got my breaded tenderloin sandwich fix, only ate half and about half of the tater tots. We went back to Mom's house to relax for a bit then headed up to my sister's house on the lake. We sat outside on the covered porch while it sprinkled a bit then headed to the park in Akron for the fireworks. I got an elephant ear from a food truck which I shared with DH, DS, & DD and I helped DBIL with his kettle corn. We got there around 8 pm and people watched until time for the fireworks. It was a good show, they launched from 2 different sides near the baseball field. It took a while to get out of the parking lot and was a 50 mile drive from my sister's back to my Mom's, so we didn't get home until almost 1am. Hoping to catch a nap sometime today. We're going to fireworks in Sharpsville tonight with my other sister. It's only a few miles away, so should be an earlier night.
It's overcast and foggy this morning, with more rain likely. Not sure what else we're doing other than getting food and grocery shopping. I'm going to make a pot of green beans to take to the family get together tomorrow.
Jan- Hope you had a nice 4th!
Cathy- Glad you had fun with friends.
Cindy- Thanks so much for the new challenge. Sorry the fireworks went well into the wee hours. We saw a lot going off on the way back to my mom's.

Happy new challenge day! Cindy, I love it! It IS a labor of love! Not only for ourselves, but for those who love us! The only thing I would add to the affirmations is that In Christ I am all those things. It’s a good reminder! Weds was an OP day, and yesterday was good until I got into the pretzels. But I tracked them and still have weeklies left! NSV for Weds was that I ate carrots as my night time snack. Should have done it last night too!Yesterday I ended up with a headache so spent most of the day on the couch. It was too muggy to go outside. I,didn’t even take Birdie for a walk. So it was a true holiday for me! I’m meeting DSIL at 1 and Rylee’s coming back, so it’s a good thing I rested yesterday! Tomorrow I’m taking both back home around dinner time. Hope you all enjoy your weekend, although, I feel like it’s Monday! 🤷🏼‍♀️

At the library getting some free "juice". Gray and rainy so figured I'd come to town to go though all my mail and scrolling for a bit. Charge all the devices at once Then home to bake my practice cake for the fair, which will mostly go home with my sis. We just have a little toaster oven thing at the cabin and I want to see how it does baking the bundt pan. We do have a stove, but you have to light the pilot light and the temperature gauge is all worn off so too hard to regulate for baking. Couldn't see any fireworks last night but sure could hear people setting them off up and down the river. I did get to watch a great Lightning Bug show in the side yard tho. Our ribs and dinner were really good, just me and sis but fine with that. Still working out logistics for when the kids come and we have a really full house at the end of the month. That's when the fun will feel like cabin, too many people, one bathroom, games, lots of dishes and just the way we like it DH had called and said his truck was making awful noises and had no acceleration. He was going to try to get it in today and I saw on the e mail this morning his receipt for the towing bill, so must have had it hauled off. Hope it's not a big $$ fix, that truck is SO not worth it. Also talked to my DB, he is trying to block out some date in mid August to come up and I'm hoping he will do that. I'm ready to tackle this new challenge I logged in all my possible food meals for today on WW and Fitbit, Now the trick is to not eat anything else than what I've already tracked! Or only 0 point foods after that. Already got my AP dancing around this morning at the cabin, figured I'd get it done while waiting for the library to open at 9. Feels good when it's done and then I just focus on getting the rest of my steps. It's now almost 11 so I better wrap it up and get back out to the "resort" as my cousin calls it, ha ha. In town here the parade and fireworks won't be until tomorrow but I'm pretty sure I won't see the fireworks by myself. Have a great weekend all. Jan Cindy Thanks for the challenge. yay for being down 3#. Hope the fireworks have stopped, but I figure they will go on through the weekend most everywhere. Is DS feeling better? Amy Sounds like a packed day for you yesterday. Glad tonight's show is closer to home. Will you burn the big bonfire before you leave? Hope you get a nap in today. Have fun at the family gathering tomorrow. Waving hi to all.

Hi all. Had a pretty good day, some high point choices but still in dot range for me. Sent all but one piece of my sour cream coffee cake home with sis tonight. Will enjoy one more piece tomorrow with some coffee at the flea. Going to try to be out of here @ 7 tomorrow to get set up. Goal is to come home with less than I brought. I will probably try to check in from the library tomorrow before I head back out here to the cabin. Sis just left, we worked on projects and just shared some good memories. She likes to leave a bit before dusk to avoid some of the critters on the way home. The other day she said a bear went in front of the car about 10 miles from here! It's usually just deer. Made good progress on my fabric wreath, almost have finished the body of my sweater. Been quiet tonight so maybe the neighbors went home or are done with all their fireworks. Probably early to bed for me to read, I figure I'll toss a bit thinking about getting up tomorrow for the market. Have a great evening all. Jan GG Hope your headache went away and you have fun with Rylee. I kept thinking today was Sunday! We are all mixed up. I'm sure Birdie will be happy to see the family

Hi All!
I decided to climb the stairs today....18 steps up, okay, coming back down not so great. Did it again after 30 minutes, up better, down thought a lot about sitting down and bumping my way down...didn't but it wasn't easy. Also realized when I got up to the second floor, the A/C is not working. Same issue as the first floor A/C that was replaced. Called the company but no one was in the office. Will try again on Monday. This is a larger A/C unit so it will be more expensive. DS said he thought it seemed warmer but figured it was because he didn't feel well. He is feeling better today but eating has been very limited.
DS didn't have the heart to tell friend/girl that he wouldn't go to the wedding. She came here so they could go together. She looked nice but....there is always a but....her shoes were just totally wrong. I wanted to offer her a pair that would have been so much better but didn't want to overstep or lose my shoes. The invitation said semi formal so DS wore a suit, coordinated a tie with her outfit and other than the groom, he is the only one in a suit. Also the only white person. The women are dressed to outdo each other but most of the men, including the bride's father are in tee shirts and jeans. The service was completely in Spanish and though 100 people RSVP'd they would be there, about 50 showed up. DS does speak Spanish fairly well so it hasn't been a problem. Have no clue if she plans to sleep on the sofa tonight. The wedding was at 4:30 and though the bride was late, no alcohol was served until 8 pm. DS is trying to convince friend/girl to leave.
Glad everyone likes the challenge. I'm hoping/planning on doing better this challenge. I dreamed that I had messed up the posts and when I woke up was very glad to see I didn't. Funny how the mind works. I also thought it was Monday and late for an appointment.
Fireworks are still going off! Could see them from the family room windows. I keep getting bug bites and really don't want to be outside.
Amy, love the FB photos. Sounds like a long but fun day! Hope you are enjoying tonight's fireworks! We have had a few grass fires in the last few days but thankfully none seemed to have happened last night. And we are having a bit of rain this evening. I would like more. Is a clean out continuing today?
Vicki, yay for the day seeming like a holiday but not for it being because of a headache. Enjoy more time with Rylee.
Jan, yay for free "juice". How did your test cake come out? What kind of cake are you making? Glad you had a lightening bug show. Fingers crossed that DH's truck is a simple, not expensive fix. Does he have another vehicle to drive? Enjoy your time at the "resort". Glad your family is so easy going.
Cathy, sounds like a wonderful time with friends and your DH has a lot of energy!
Carole, hope you had a wonderful Fourth!
Just realized that my FitBit needs charging, not that I'm getting a lot of steps. Getting ready to do more icing of my knee. Have misplaced both knee compression sleeves...I use them to hold the ice pak in place. Guess I will use a towel but have no clue where I put one, never mind two sleeves.
Wishing everyone a wonderful evening!
Hugs, Cindy

I had an OP day yesterday and the scale was down after holding steady for three or four days in a row. One pound at a time I will whittle the pounds down.
Talked to our daughter last night and might talk to her again this evening. They had floods in her part of Missouri but she was okay where she lived. Today's lunch will be atayfee (amaranth) with bulger, onions, and black eyed peas. I have a book nearly finished, will review when done, and start a new book.
Love the new challenge...it is indeed a labor of love!
