Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be!We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

Labor of Love NEW CHALLENGE July 5 through September 2
The word labor implies a specific task or effort, many times painful or arduous. A labor of love is doing something because you really want to, not because of any monetary reward you might get for it even though it involves hard work.
This challenge is all about a labor of love, reminding yourself to love yourself so it becomes your norm.
How often do we do something for someone else because it makes them happy and in turn makes us happy. But as the saying goes “how can you love someone else if you can’t love yourself”.
There are many ways we don’t show ourselves love. We are harder on ourselves than on anyone else. We go over and over “why did I drink too much” and the ever popular "if I lost weight I would be so much happier”. We are not showing ourselves love by overeating and over drinking, we are doing the opposite. To start, give yourself grace and tell yourself yesterday is done, tomorrow isn’t here, so let’s deal with the present.
We worry about so many things, things we have no control over. Resilience, happiness and freedom comes from knowing what to care about and what to not let us get bogged down. Let go of things that do not work for you, help you, or encourage you. It is hard! You want to be a good person but be good to yourself first. Send out positivity but give yourself positivity.
We all have bad days, nothing goes right, nasty people out and about, stress levels are over the top and you have no control. This can be true in many ways but your control is to step away, love yourself.
Journal it, put it down on paper, and then let it go.
So each morning give yourself an affirmation. Here are some suggestions:
#1. I am worthy. #2. I am enough. #3. I am beautiful inside and out. #4. Even my “flaws” have good and helpful aspects. #5. I love and approve of myself. #6. I am delighted with who I am. #7. I fully approve of who I am, even as I better myself. #8. I approve of myself and love myself completely. #9. I am happy in my own skin and in my own circumstances. #10. I am surrounded by love. #11. I am treasured for who I really am. #12. I am worthy of happiness and love. #13. I enjoy my own company as I get in touch with my true self. #14. I am at peace and happy when I’m alone.
It may sound like Stuart Smiley but go with it!

DH & I drove to the hospital for my lab work yesterday morning then on to the Silver Comet trail to walk. My brother called wanting me to sign a form that he needed for a meeting about the farm at 1:30, so we skipped Costco and went back home to take care of that. Why didn't he have me sign it when I was up there for July 4th? Anyway after lunch I had couch time. DH grilled chicken thighs and some green beans for dinner which we had with queso and chips. Kind of an eclectic meal, but yummy. After dinner I watched Joe's press conference, then GOT, and stitched on a Florida State ornament. I stayed up a bit late, then had trouble falling asleep. I got my lab results back around 11pm. My A1C was 5.8, down from 6.0 in January, but still in the high range. I think stewing about that was part of the problem I had falling asleep.
It's another sunny day here, rain not likely, back in the 90's by the afternoon. I think we're having spaghetti and meatballs for dinner.
Jan- WTG steps, PU, stretches, AP, blue dot, AF, dropping off cereal for food bank. We did a couple of cereal drives at the hospital, with each department competing to collect the most boxes. A lot of cereal was collected! Hope you enjoyed knitting and got your errands done. Yay for getting some quiet time. DH was actually mostly AF on vacation, but back ANIM when we got home. I didn't grow any broccoli this year, maybe I'll try for a fall crop.
Vicki- WTG going to the Y, yay for a nap. Thanks for the lemon pie recipe, sounds great.
Carole- Yay for hearing the good band on Main Street and going to your friend's cottage this weekend. Glad your empanadas were yummy. Enjoy the dog beach today.
Cindy- Glad PT went well, hope the ortho visit does as well. Yay for reasonable $$$ for the A/C repair.
Cathy- WTG getting back to tracking. Sorry about the sonic booms and the heat.

M-W Word of the Day
bilk verb | BILK What It Means Bilk is typically applied in contexts relating to fraud and deceit. It can mean "to cheat out of something valuable," or "to evade payment of or to," or "to obtain something by defrauding someone." // Prosecutors contend that the defendant bilked hundreds of investors out of their life savings. // Some vendors accuse the company of bilking its creditors. // The organization's treasurer had bilked thousands of dollars from the nonprofit over the course of one year.

Thanks for putting the pictures on Amy! I baked it in our Kalorik air fryer/oven and added 10 minutes. Next time I’m trying without the crust. I didn’t use the whipped cream, but DH did. Last night I thanked DH for making such a delicious dinner and he even said with a delicious dessert! He NEVER compliments me! Will try to get back. Not sure what I’m doing. May go up to swim at DD’s before the VBS program tonight.

Getting my day planned out. Will go to the grocery, have some things on sale and it's 4x gas points Then later if I'm brave, maybe a trip to Costco. Want to get some more protein drink, look for some cereal DH likes but can't find at our grocery now. Will look at the salmon and see what else jumps in my cart. I did see the protein drink is a little cheaper at Sams, only 12 in the pack but comes out to @ $1.75 a bottle instead of $2. But I'd need a Sam's card, hmmm, could get one on promotion for $25. Will weigh my options. I see where Costco is going to raise their membership prices soon. Thinks we are doing the scallops tonight and I'm trying to get some rollovers to make up for yesterday. At least my activity earned me some extra calories so still in my goal. At knitting all I did was wind my yarn skein into a ball, took forever. At home I got my sleeve stitches on the needles and will work on that today. No other big plans. Hope you all have a great Fri-Yay. Will check in later. Jan Amy Sounds like you had a good day. Congrats on rocking the 150's!! I wanted to ask about your calories and macros. Are your calories etc based on trying to lose weight? was it set by the tracker you are using? Wondered why your protein was at 138g and thinking I should try to up my goal of 100. Even that seems pretty hard to get many days. Thanks for the lemon pie recipe, from GG. Sorry your A1C didn't go lower, seems like with the meds and the lost weight it should have changed more. Next time! It's still better. I tried to mix up my cereal, some fun things like honey nut cheerios along with oatmeal and raisin bran etc. I guess I'm mean tho, won't buy like the chocolate or total sugar things. Hope you can get some broccoli started for fall. Would some places still have starts? Everything is gone here. I may check out the "sad" plants at Lowes or somewhere today, have 2 pots in back that could still use something. Have fun with family, enjoy your spaghetti. GG I laughed when you said the pie had "4" servings Sure you can get the points down, and without the crust it would be like that no crust pumpkin pie. Cindy Wasn't a wing fan, didn't even know it was just the ends, not even the little meaty part! duh Hope you can be down one Dr. Appt. yay for AC fix Carole Where in Wisconsin is the cottage? Have fun!!

Hi!
Saw my ortho doc in the AM. He was pleased with my healing, my progress and feels two more weeks of PT would be helpful. He suggested making an appointment in two months and cancel if I don't need it. His office (in practice with 7 other doctors) was bedlam this morning but I was on time and taken quite quickly. Listening in on conversations I heard people saying they got there an hour earlier than their appointment and couldn't understand why they couldn't be taken. I felt badly for the team working the desk. So fingers crossed the dental surgeon and the ortho surgeon are crossed off my list!
Today is my brother's 74th birthday. I could not come up with any ideas so ended up sending him a Harry and David Birthday box. He said he really liked it and had tried several items. Neither of us need anything so it is always a challenge to find something to give.
I made potato salad late afternoon that was suppose to have been made for July 4th. We liked the recipe before, avocado potato salad, but tonight I was not thrilled with it. I need to find my Mom's recipe. I also need to stop trying new recipes and stick with what works.
Amy, congrats for being in the fifties! WOOT! Will your doctor give you a call about your A1C number? or will the discussion wait till your next visit? But at least it is down, thinking positively. Another week may show another dip. Did you have spaghetti and meatballs? Does DH use A to sleep? no need to answer. Hugs
Vicki, glad Amy was able to post the lemon pie recipe. DH needs to compliment you more! Did you go swimming at DD's? What is scheduled for the weekend?
Jan, I read about Costco raising their membership prices but mine was raised last year...I was surprised to read the article. It could take me forever to wind a skein of yarn. I gave a bunch of yarn to a friend. Lots of the yarn was from my Mom. My friend crochet me a lovely blanket with it all. It just touched my heart. Since her husband is having cancer treatment she crochets while waiting. She is making a blanket for one of the nurses who in turn is making a T shirt quilt from her husband's T's. I'm already looking at fall bulbs for next spring. My gardens are just so sad. But my lilies in my memorial garden keep shoving the debris aside to bloom.
Cathy, not sure what to say about the sonic booms. With that said prayers for you and DH's safety and prayers for family and friends. We certainly don't get any answers as to what is going from our administration.
Carole, enjoy, enjoy, enjoy the time at the cottage!
Watching too much news and plan to switch to Acorn for the night. Talked to my cousin for two hours!!!! this afternoon. I am the only contact on her father's side of the family. Her father was closer in age to my oldest brother than his own brother that was my father.
I see Catherine Renoir in my future and maybe my French will get better!
Hugs to all, Cindy

Warm days this week. Was OP within points and calories yesterday and plan to do the same today. Hope to talk to our daughter this evening but probably later than usual as our electricity will be off when we usually chat. My husband is off to buy supplies for a worker coming this afternoon and he will pick up some basic essentials and produce for the kitchen. I am trying to figure out what to take to the potluck on Tuesday...something that will travel easily and well in a car for a couple or three hours without getting spoiled.
Hope you all have a good weekend!
