Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be!We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

Labor of Love NEW CHALLENGE July 5 through September 2
The word labor implies a specific task or effort, many times painful or arduous. A labor of love is doing something because you really want to, not because of any monetary reward you might get for it even though it involves hard work.
This challenge is all about a labor of love, reminding yourself to love yourself so it becomes your norm.
How often do we do something for someone else because it makes them happy and in turn makes us happy. But as the saying goes “how can you love someone else if you can’t love yourself”.
There are many ways we don’t show ourselves love. We are harder on ourselves than on anyone else. We go over and over “why did I drink too much” and the ever popular "if I lost weight I would be so much happier”. We are not showing ourselves love by overeating and over drinking, we are doing the opposite. To start, give yourself grace and tell yourself yesterday is done, tomorrow isn’t here, so let’s deal with the present.
We worry about so many things, things we have no control over. Resilience, happiness and freedom comes from knowing what to care about and what to not let us get bogged down. Let go of things that do not work for you, help you, or encourage you. It is hard! You want to be a good person but be good to yourself first. Send out positivity but give yourself positivity.
We all have bad days, nothing goes right, nasty people out and about, stress levels are over the top and you have no control. This can be true in many ways but your control is to step away, love yourself.
Journal it, put it down on paper, and then let it go.
So each morning give yourself an affirmation. Here are some suggestions:
#1. I am worthy. #2. I am enough. #3. I am beautiful inside and out. #4. Even my “flaws” have good and helpful aspects. #5. I love and approve of myself. #6. I am delighted with who I am. #7. I fully approve of who I am, even as I better myself. #8. I approve of myself and love myself completely. #9. I am happy in my own skin and in my own circumstances. #10. I am surrounded by love. #11. I am treasured for who I really am. #12. I am worthy of happiness and love. #13. I enjoy my own company as I get in touch with my true self. #14. I am at peace and happy when I’m alone.
It may sound like Stuart Smiley but go with it!

Going to be a hot one and then they are saying possible bad storms overnight and tomorrow. Guess we just wait and see. Anything I want done outside will have to happen early this morning. There is a craft’ art fair at one of the museums, outside, a big junk sale up north a bit or the Farmer’s Market. I’m thinking I’ll walk the market, probably the safest . My friend called in the morning and we talked about an hour, kind of threw off my schedule and I was later getting to the store so passed on Costco for the day. May try on Monday. Figure it just saved me some money, and we’d just spent enough picking up DH truck. Not as bad as it could of been but not great. The mechanics said to buy these stinky pouches of ?? That you hang in the engine compartment and it actually keeps away the critters. Guess we will be getting some for all the cars that park outside. I think DH said you have to order them online. Glad I finished my wreath and I had the sunflowers here already, usually put them out in a bucket in the fall. Sure made my one hand sore tying all those denim pieces. I did it over the last week because I’d start to hurt, take a break and then continue, but I knew I needed to get done, so powered thru. By evening DH didn’t feel like cooking. He’d worked in the yard after getting the truck and then went to empty everything at the green waste. It ended up just being feed yourself . Worked out fine for me and used up a few things in the fridge. The scallops will get cooked tonight for sure as they are thawed, I’ve already cleaned the green beans so should be easy to throw together now. No other big news for the day, just plan to get my steps and stay OP. Have a great Saturday all. Stay cool. Jan Cathy. Glad the scale went down, sorry the electric will be off when you want to call your daughter. Hope you get to talk. Does the potluck have any kind of theme or just anything this time? Cindy. I get it about talking to a friend, I have to know I have the time when I see the number on the phone . I hate to put her off, but sometimes I just can’t do an hour or more when I’m going somewhere. Driving to the cabin is a good time for me to talk on speaker. Hope you are done with both of your 2 appts and that you even can end up canceling the later PT. I never even had PT after my hip, they just gave me the exercises to do at home and checked on me when I went in for follow ups. Can’t believe it’s already been a year this month, so happy I did it. Glad you DB enjoyed his treat basket. I usually just send my DB a funny card, usually some bathroom humor ha ha. I had to stop and think, he turned 74 this year. Yikes, that must mean I’m getting old too!!! Is the house FG free for the weekend? Glad the lilies will power through and still bloom. I’m wondering if Costco will have bulbs already next week? I didn’t get to Lowe’s yesterday but going to stop today. GG. I agree, you deserve the compliments. Of all the things that the DH’s take for granted, but boy, if you bake them a good dessert they sure notice . The way to a man’s heart. Hope you got to swim at DD house. Where are they going in Florida? Sounds like they are going from hot to hotter Carole. Did you get to the dog beach? Is it the one in Chicago on the lake? Have fun at the cottage, stay strong and true to you if you want to be AF. Amy. Sure you had fun with the family last night. Sounds like you are back to stitching craft fair items. Have they put out a date for the Fall show? Enjoy your morning walk and breakfast. Be back later

We got a late start yesterday and it was hot by the time we got to the park to walk. I picked about a cup of blackberries and decided to buy some at the store to have enough to make blackberry cobbler. I didn't buy anything at the farmer's market, but good to see a lot of people there. After walking we went to Ingles for groceries. When we got home we put the groceries away then I went out to pick some tomatoes. I made fresh tomato sauce for the meatballs, always yummy. The blackberry turned out very soupy, but good with vanilla ice cream. After dinner we played Winky Dink, then watched a few episodes of Sweet Tooth. I stayed up with the kids later than I should, then took a bath and finished the book I was reading, so only got about 6 hours of sleep, even with sleeping in past 9.
DH, DS, & I walked the nature trail, hot again, but at least there's some shade. We had bacon, scrambled eggs, fresh fruit, and coffee cake for breakfast. DS has gone home. Not sure of the plan for the day, I've got a lot of green beans to deal with, may freeze some. I've got laundry going and I probably should start decluttering the bedroom and closet for the floor installation on Wednesday.
Vicki- Yay for getting the compliment from DH on the pie!
Jan- WTG steps, PU, stretches, AP, blue dot, rollovers, AF, finishing the wreath. What's No Jiggle July? Yarn winding is tedious, my DMIL liked to do it for me. It seems like I invariably will pull on the end and get a big clump of yarn out of the center, so I'll cut it and wind it into a ball. Then I have to hide the ball so the cats don't run off with it. Love your denim wreath, so summery! The MacrosFirst app did set the calorie, protein, carb, and fat goals based on my stats and a goal of weight loss. I'm usually in the 80's for protein, haven't come close to the 137 mark. The nurseries will start selling fall plants soon as we have 2 growing seasons here. The brassicas (cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, collards) will make it through most winters. They still have a lot of tomatoes, peppers, herbs, etc. for sale. My neighbor says he's going to put out some new tomato plants as he feels like his are getting played out. I wouldn't want to have to deal with babying new plants through this heat. I haven't seen a date for the Fall Fest yet, but it should be sometime in October.
Cindy- Yay for the ortho doc being pleased with your progress, sorry about the chaos in the office. Good to know you can probably be done with your visits. Hope your DB had a happy birthday. Sorry your potato salad was disappointing. I think trying new recipes is a good thing, you never know when you'll find your new favorite thing. Yay for your lilies hanging in there. My zinnias are the only thing that seem unaffected by the heat. Some of the seeds washed down the hill when I scattered them and there are zinnias popping up in random places, LOL. I will probably get some feedback from my doctor on my A1C, even if it's just a message in My Chart. I'm not scheduled to see her until January.
Cathy- Yay for the scale coming down and WTG for your OP days.

Hi All!
Just have lost my focus to chat while watching the news. I was in fourth grade when JFK was assassinated, then RFK, MLK, Ronald Reagan attempted assassination and now the Biden administration wont give RFk, Jr secret service protection. Just kinda glued to the news. There is just no place for this to happen to any party candidate. Bless our Secret Service.
Thanks Amy and Jan for posting today!
Will try to be back later.
Hugs to all, Cindy

Another quiet day at home. Talked to our daughter in the evening but the connection wasn't strong so we cut the conversation short. Not sure if we will be able to talk to our granddaughters today or not.
I have been craving a burger...perhaps a veggieburger would suffice if I buy a burger bun...we will see. Or, I want pasta or pizza or something that is not points friendly <sigh> but don't want to get dressed to go buy any of those things so will probably microwave some peeled eggplant and add it to a grain bowl or some tomato sauce and have it over pasta or rice.
I will make peach-tomato caprese salad to take to the potluck on Tuesday. Hope it is good.
Hope all of you sleep well and wake refreshed in the morning.
