Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be!We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

Labor of Love NEW CHALLENGE July 5 through September 2
The word labor implies a specific task or effort, many times painful or arduous. A labor of love is doing something because you really want to, not because of any monetary reward you might get for it even though it involves hard work.
This challenge is all about a labor of love, reminding yourself to love yourself so it becomes your norm.
How often do we do something for someone else because it makes them happy and in turn makes us happy. But as the saying goes âhow can you love someone else if you canât love yourselfâ.
There are many ways we donât show ourselves love. We are harder on ourselves than on anyone else. We go over and over âwhy did I drink too muchâ and the ever popular "if I lost weight I would be so much happierâ. We are not showing ourselves love by overeating and over drinking, we are doing the opposite. To start, give yourself grace and tell yourself yesterday is done, tomorrow isnât here, so letâs deal with the present.
We worry about so many things, things we have no control over. Resilience, happiness and freedom comes from knowing what to care about and what to not let us get bogged down. Let go of things that do not work for you, help you, or encourage you. It is hard! You want to be a good person but be good to yourself first. Send out positivity but give yourself positivity.
We all have bad days, nothing goes right, nasty people out and about, stress levels are over the top and you have no control. This can be true in many ways but your control is to step away, love yourself.
Journal it, put it down on paper, and then let it go.
So each morning give yourself an affirmation. Here are some suggestions:
#1. I am worthy. #2. I am enough. #3. I am beautiful inside and out. #4. Even my âflawsâ have good and helpful aspects. #5. I love and approve of myself. #6. I am delighted with who I am. #7. I fully approve of who I am, even as I better myself. #8. I approve of myself and love myself completely. #9. I am happy in my own skin and in my own circumstances. #10. I am surrounded by love. #11. I am treasured for who I really am. #12. I am worthy of happiness and love. #13. I enjoy my own company as I get in touch with my true self. #14. I am at peace and happy when Iâm alone.
It may sound like Stuart Smiley but go with it!

I had a mostly lazy afternoon yesterday. We had grilled steak and green beans for dinner, with leftover mac and cheese and sliced tomatoes. We were eating dinner when they broke in with news of the Trump shooting. Like Cindy, I remember when JFK was shot. They dismissed us early from school, put us on our buses, then the principal came on each bus to tell us, then sent us home to our parents. Already this morning there is a Georgia congressman saying that Biden ordered the hit. Sigh. I did break away from the news coverage last night when it seemed there wasn't much new to report and watched GOT and stitched.
It's another hazy day, already in the upper 70's. I need to finish the laundry and start clearing clutter out of the bedroom.
Cindy- It is hard to pull ourselves away from the news when something like this happens. Hugs!
Cathy- Sorry you had to cut conversation with your daughter short. Hope you either satisfy the burger craving or it passes. The peach tomato caprese salad sounds good.

It was gray and wet this morning but starting to clear up. The craft/art show I mentioned is actually today but I don't think I'll go, even if they still have it. Need to work on my own mess. Had a good day yesterday, Didn't get swayed by treats at the market or the store, didn't even buy any sad plants Of course the news cycle later kind of messes with your mental health, but I will limit my media and take care of me today. It's going to be a S*%^ Show, glad we'll be no where near Milwaukee the next week or so and I can hide out at the cabin. I don't like the man, but don't wish that on anyone, and feel bad for those who were caught in the mess. The conspiracy theories will be rampant and the man will be made a hero either way. HOw bad is it to think I now wish he'd won last time and we'd almost be done. (Maybe) Both parties would be putting up some new blood. Enough of that. I slept in a bit and when I started scrolling and journaling I already missed my first hour of steps, oops. DH is making french toast and sausage for breakfast and then I'm sure the TV will be on. At least there are 2 soccer games on today so that will be good. I will check back later. Jan

Back again. DH made a yummy breakfast and now I will parcel out the rest of my points for the day DH went upstairs to work on his crossword so I put the TV back on mute. Thought about just staying in my PJ's all day and thought I better get dressed so I can at least go out and walk while it's nice. Got a few more pictures developed at Walgreens so at least now I have a choice of some black and white, redid some filters on some and like them better. Need to get out and dump the water out of the bird feeders and refill them. That's about all that's on my chore list, ha ha. Going to take lazy day break. Happy Sunday all. Jan Amy Glad you could break from the news coverage for a bit. Going to be tough when they will be going on for days about it. At least will get us off how old Joe is for awhile I guess. I have been more aware of trying to add in that protein. I use the COre vanilla as my coffee creamer in the morning, been adding FF cottage cheese to my scrambled and omelettes, save 1/2 a protein bar or shake for evening if I need that push over 100g. All a mental exercise and probably too much thinking. I liked where you said the semaglutide gave you the freedom from having to think about food all the time. I guess I'm just grateful right now that my brain has mostly stopped thinking about A all the time. One baby step at a time. I've been having a light head some mornings and I wonder if it has to do with my BP meds. My BP has really gotten better, mainly because of not drinking and my dosage is the same as before. Wonder if the feeling is from low BP or sugar. Need to check with the DR when I get home or can get an appt. When I take it it's not really low, but who knows. Is it just your bedroom floor you are having done? Cathy Of course I would just eat the burger and move on when I try to push down the craving with something else and fake it, I still just want the real thing. Maybe just a lean burger with no bun and all the veggies. GL deciding. Hope you can talk to the rest of family. the salad with peaches sounds good. Cindy Did you stay sucked into the news? All the questions, and accusations, and mis steps, it will be a long time being figured out. I bit too Kennedy like with the shooter on the roof and no one checked that out? He is such a lucky man that it grazed his ear, just no way the guy could have been aiming for that whoa!!! Will guns still be allowed at the RNC convention? So crazy. How is the knee taping holding up? Still feeling better? Waving hi.

Hi All! Yup, watching news while doing sudoko and answering emails! I think I mentioned that my friend's husband probably won't make it to the end of the year due to cancer but hope springs eternal. With that said, family decided it would be good to have a Thanksmas party for him. A Dirty Santa exchange was part of it plus bring food and drink to share along with stocking stuffers for the kids. Hunh? Once the invitation came through, it was from noon to 10 PM. UMMM? They live two hours plus away from us. Anyway DS declined as I did. The person handling the invite list, then sent us a site where we could buy a gift...ummm, for what purpose? And also told us what food and drink we could provide. I think the "event" has gotten out of hand and from seeing the RSVP list, many are declining. This is so not for the husband. Jan, looked into it a bit because it piqued my curiosity. Guns will not be allowed inside Fiserv Forum or other buildings where RNC events are set to take place, or in the "hard perimeter" around the convention, where credentials are required for entry, aside from those those possessed by working law enforcement officers, according to Secret Service spokesperson. Most guns, however, will not be banned in the area immediately outside the RNC perimeter, known as the security "footprint," because the city is prevented by state law from enacting such a ban. At least two groups have been given permits to be in the "footprint". Both groups appear to be "left leaning" but who knows who will show up? Glad you have your cabin peace space. Glad you got a yummy breakfast...I ate two pieces of cheese. I need to do better! The knee tape is really helping! When I did the shoulder surgery I had a video site of exercises and did a zoom meet with a PT person once a week. He would add exercises to the site as I progressed. Did you do any PT for your hip? I dislike PT and will be happy when it is over. Going to hold my ortho surgeon to two weeks. I did have to lower my BP meds due to light headiness. Do you monitor your BP? Mine was dropping really low when I was being light headed. I'm now cutting 10mg in half since it isn't made in 5 mg. Amy, thanks for getting us started. It was an amazing photo of the big cat! I wish people would take a step back before commentating. It doesn't help anyone. My heart just breaks for the family who lost their husband/Dad. We were just told to put our heads down and pray and were sent home. No easy way to handle any of these situations. It is going to be an interesting summer. Non sequitur: Leave room in your garden for the fairies to dance. Don't know if you have a strawberry ice cream recipe but came across this one. Chef John's Strawberry Ice Cream Homemade strawberry ice cream with sweet, juicy strawberries! Some people consider this quick strawberry ice cream recipe a hack because we're skipping the more time-consuming egg-custard step; but even if I didn't want to save time I'd still prefer this method for strawberry ice cream. By John Mitzewich Prep Time: 10 mins Additional Time: 2 hrs 45 mins Total Time: 2 hrs 55 mins Servings: 12 Ingredients 12 ounces fresh strawberries, hulled ž cup white sugar 2 cups heavy whipping cream 1 cup milk 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1 tiny pinch salt 2 drops red food coloring (Optional) Directions Place strawberries and sugar in a blender and pulse until pureed; set aside to steep for 10 minutes. Pour cream, milk, vanilla extract, and salt into strawberry mixture; blend until smooth and slightly thickened, 10 to 15 seconds. Whisk red food color into cream mixture. Pour strawberry mixture into the container of an ice cream maker and process until thick according to the manufacturer's instructions. Transfer ice cream to a sealable container, cover the ice cream with plastic wrap, seal the container, and freeze, 2 hours to overnight. Cathy, hope you are able to connect with family. I would try for the burger but also know I don't want to go out and get something and make do with what is available at home. Nine year anniversary of DH passing. We have our own celebration of his life and we hear from dear friends of DH. I feel blessed that they continue to be in our lives. Very glad I have nothing scheduled for tomorrow! Of course that may mean a lazy day! We shall see! Hugs to all, Cindy

Hi girls. I did go up swimming with Rylee on Friday, until she crashed. She didnât feel like going to the VBS program, plus they had to be at the airport by 9. I ate at Cracker Barrel and sat with DS and family at the program. They had over 200 kids with over 100 helpers. The music was incredible and certainly got me in the mood for ours this week! Saturday I went into the church to help get things set up. I couldnât believe the shooting at the rally. My 86 year old aunt and cousin were there, plus a couple of friends. I think there probably would have been more there but for the extreme heat. Total craziness. I watched the news until it was just the same thing over and over and turned it off. I had troubled sleep though. Iâve been on the couch since I got home from church. Jackson played FOUR games today in this heat! They won the tournament, but man! I guess DS proved himself as a coach this season! The team did well!
Cindy: 9 years.đ That party sounds insane. Shaking my head.
Jan: I got taken off my BP meds when I started getting dizzy!
Amy: You guys are a little older than me. I remember watching JFKâs funeral on tv with mom but nothing else.
