Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be!We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

Labor of Love NEW CHALLENGE July 5 through September 2
The word labor implies a specific task or effort, many times painful or arduous. A labor of love is doing something because you really want to, not because of any monetary reward you might get for it even though it involves hard work.
This challenge is all about a labor of love, reminding yourself to love yourself so it becomes your norm.
How often do we do something for someone else because it makes them happy and in turn makes us happy. But as the saying goes “how can you love someone else if you can’t love yourself”.
There are many ways we don’t show ourselves love. We are harder on ourselves than on anyone else. We go over and over “why did I drink too much” and the ever popular "if I lost weight I would be so much happier”. We are not showing ourselves love by overeating and over drinking, we are doing the opposite. To start, give yourself grace and tell yourself yesterday is done, tomorrow isn’t here, so let’s deal with the present.
We worry about so many things, things we have no control over. Resilience, happiness and freedom comes from knowing what to care about and what to not let us get bogged down. Let go of things that do not work for you, help you, or encourage you. It is hard! You want to be a good person but be good to yourself first. Send out positivity but give yourself positivity.
We all have bad days, nothing goes right, nasty people out and about, stress levels are over the top and you have no control. This can be true in many ways but your control is to step away, love yourself.
Journal it, put it down on paper, and then let it go.
So each morning give yourself an affirmation. Here are some suggestions:
#1. I am worthy. #2. I am enough. #3. I am beautiful inside and out. #4. Even my “flaws” have good and helpful aspects. #5. I love and approve of myself. #6. I am delighted with who I am. #7. I fully approve of who I am, even as I better myself. #8. I approve of myself and love myself completely. #9. I am happy in my own skin and in my own circumstances. #10. I am surrounded by love. #11. I am treasured for who I really am. #12. I am worthy of happiness and love. #13. I enjoy my own company as I get in touch with my true self. #14. I am at peace and happy when I’m alone.
It may sound like Stuart Smiley but go with it!

DH & I took the golf cart to the nature trail to walk again since it was so hot and there's some shade there. Lots of folks out, including a group of 4 women that I haven't seen before. When we got back I walked around outside, filled the bird feeders, threw out the dead pansies in pots, moved some inside plants to the front porch. Then I got busy finishing the laundry and decluttering the bedroom for the floor installation on Wednesday. I got everything off the floor in my walk-in closet and moved any hanging clothes that were within 3 feet of the floor to upstairs closets. I really need to go through a bunch of stuff and get rid of it. Then lunch and couch time. We were going to have pork chops for dinner, but DH was asleep, so DD & I just had grilled cheese. I was in bed earlier and ended up sleeping well.
It's overcast with a chance of storms this afternoon. They had been predicting 100 degrees for today, but they've backed off on that forecast.
Jan- WTG steps, stretches, PU, AP, blue dot, AF. Yay for a yummy breakfast, quiet day at home, and your brain stopping thinking about A. I had to cut back on my B/P med when I was getting dizzy if I stood up too fast, ended up getting off it altogether several years ago. We're taking up the carpet in the main bedroom, all the rest of the downstairs is already hardwood except for the bathrooms and utility room, which are tile.
Cindy- That Thanksgiving party does sound like a lot. Hope it all works out at the RNC. Glad the knee tape is helping. I like the idea of fairies dancing in the garden. Thanks for the strawberry ice cream recipe, it's very similar to the one I tried and was very good. Does it feel like 9 years to you? Hugs!
Vicki- Yay for swimming with Rylee and enjoying the VBS program. That's a lot of kids! Woohoo to Jackson's team doing well.

Start weight July 5: 194.6 cabin July 12: 194 July 19: July 26: August 2: August 9: August 16: August 23: August 30: Yay we have done great! September 2 Celebrate! Final weigh in: Good morning all. Well I did not parcel out my points, I just ate the farm! Who knows what set that one off, anxiety, boredom, frustration. AFter breakfast I headed up to Costso, figured I needed to at least get out of the house. Also saw World Market supposedly had the bamboo steamer baskets I wanted. Well struck out at every turn. No cereal I wanted or Fairlife at Costco, no baskets, left both stores empty handed. Was just going to come home, got to the on ramp for the freeway, closed in my direction Detour took me past a grocery so decided to just stop and get the crackers and things DH had asked for. Of course it was right next to the Culvers, whose flavor was chocolate with mini MM's, and oreos. Once that happened it was down hill the rest of the way. DH didn't want to cook burgers after the soccer game, hot and muggy, plus he hadn't made any HB eggs I wanted for potato salad, thinking I would have the steamer basket when I got home. We decided to try pizza from a different place in Neenah, about 10 miles north. Went up to order and were taking it home. Sitting there waiting he decides to order a beer, asks me to share, then he wants more on the way home, of course, who can have just one! So I then had one of those with my pizza. I guess there are some NSV in there somewhere. I tracked all the ugly points and calories, I switched to the last NA beer we had at home after so I didn't just keep drinking, and I move on today. I did think to myself not that long ago, that would have just been a regular day, I probably ate that many calories most days, especially with the A involved, so I'm focusing on progress, not perfection. Today I will get my salads made, DH will make the burgers and I will eat accordingly during the day. I made up a pitcher of sun tea to enjoy, will get my steps and focus on protein again. I know the mini sabotage will make me crabby at the scale tomorrow but then I'll know what to do while I'm at the cabin alone and can just feed myself for a week. Blah, blah, blah, I'm sure you have all heard it before. Thanks for listening. No big plans today, run to Walmart for a couple things, dry cat food mostly. I sent in a Chewy order that's coming today, cans and treats, and never even checked how much dry we had. Guess I better get moving and start my day. Sure the RNC news will be on here, will be interesting week I'm sure. Enjoy your Monday all. Jan Amy Thanks for starting us. Have fun at water aerobics. I'll try to send you the no jiggle july, it's just from a lady on the Connect site. Exercises to do each day and the reps go up during the month. She had a regular calendar and a modified one. Just something else for me to do, and it's fast. I'm going to try cutting my 10mg BP med in half and see if it makes me feel any different. I really don't think about the A these days, and then it just sneaks up on me like last night. Didn't crave it, need it, want it but then a sip leads to that little zoned out place and it tricks you so fast. There is no AIM. We'll see if DH continues today or stops again. Does you DH mostly just drink beer or something else? Glad you slept well. Hope the temps aren't that bad, should warm up the pool tho. You are still getting a lot of green beans! Yay for the floor being ready, it will look so nice. We don't have any carpet either. Cindy Hugs on 9 years, hard to imagine. The party for your friends DH sounds quite odd. Maybe they will get the hint with so many declining the invitation. Obviously the gifts are not for him. Glad the tape is still working. Liked the idea of the fairies dancing in Amy's garden. We'll see how the RNC plays out. The ice cream recipe looks yummy. In the barn at the cabin I saw an old red bucket type ice cream freezer I think. It's all wrapped up in some plastic and probably hasn't been touched in 20 years. I think everyone's afraid to see what might be inside May have to do some investigating when I go up north. See if I could clean it up and put all those kids to work turning that crank!! GG Glad you got to swim and see the VBS program. Have fun this week. Do you mostly do the music? Safe travels to the kids heading to Florida. Yay for Jack's team winning the tournament, I'm just always amazed at the heat these guys play in. Yikes about having family members at the Rally, so glad they were all safe, but how frightening for them to witness. The violence these days is just so random and uncalled for. What does it change or solve. The young man who did it had to know he would lose his life, and to just not even care. Now people will remember you for a bit, but at what cost to your family and the family of the man who was killed. Ugggh. Carole Hope you had an awesome time up at the cottage. When do you go to Florida? Waving hi.

Hi friends! I need to read the posts but I want to let you know—I was AF!! NOT ONE SINGLE DROP!! It was hard at some points but I did it. I told myself I can buy this dress I want , not need, for vacation. That is my reward! Besides not feeling guilty and having a hangover! Eat like poop but details!

Hi girls. Day 1 of VBS is done! This year besides music, I am also helping with scripture memory. There is a cute video, so it’s pretty easy. The best thing about my part is that I get to leave at 7:00! The teachers have to stay until 8:30!! I think we had about 20 kids. Even though I sat a good bit getting things ready for tonight, all the music and dancing got me at least to my step goal! NSV for the night, I didn’t stop for ice cream on my way home! I decided I could eat other things for a lot less points. Plus, if I did it on day 1, I would want to stop every night.
Cindy: Did you enjoy your relaxing day?
Amy: Good for you being ready for the new floor! I’ll bet you have A LOT of stuff that doesn’t fit and you can pass along!
Jan: Hopefully things will start to simmer down now. There is just so much hate in the world. I just can’t imagine what would possess a kid to do that! Sorry about the A blip. You are so right though, back in the day you probably ate and drank like that all the time! And you certainly don’t now!
Carole: Woohoo! Way to stick to your goals! I’m proud of you!!
