Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be!We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

Labor of Love NEW CHALLENGE July 5 through September 2
The word labor implies a specific task or effort, many times painful or arduous. A labor of love is doing something because you really want to, not because of any monetary reward you might get for it even though it involves hard work.
This challenge is all about a labor of love, reminding yourself to love yourself so it becomes your norm.
How often do we do something for someone else because it makes them happy and in turn makes us happy. But as the saying goes “how can you love someone else if you can’t love yourself”.
There are many ways we don’t show ourselves love. We are harder on ourselves than on anyone else. We go over and over “why did I drink too much” and the ever popular "if I lost weight I would be so much happier”. We are not showing ourselves love by overeating and over drinking, we are doing the opposite. To start, give yourself grace and tell yourself yesterday is done, tomorrow isn’t here, so let’s deal with the present.
We worry about so many things, things we have no control over. Resilience, happiness and freedom comes from knowing what to care about and what to not let us get bogged down. Let go of things that do not work for you, help you, or encourage you. It is hard! You want to be a good person but be good to yourself first. Send out positivity but give yourself positivity.
We all have bad days, nothing goes right, nasty people out and about, stress levels are over the top and you have no control. This can be true in many ways but your control is to step away, love yourself.
Journal it, put it down on paper, and then let it go.
So each morning give yourself an affirmation. Here are some suggestions:
#1. I am worthy. #2. I am enough. #3. I am beautiful inside and out. #4. Even my “flaws” have good and helpful aspects. #5. I love and approve of myself. #6. I am delighted with who I am. #7. I fully approve of who I am, even as I better myself. #8. I approve of myself and love myself completely. #9. I am happy in my own skin and in my own circumstances. #10. I am surrounded by love. #11. I am treasured for who I really am. #12. I am worthy of happiness and love. #13. I enjoy my own company as I get in touch with my true self. #14. I am at peace and happy when I’m alone.
It may sound like Stuart Smiley but go with it!

Water aerobics was good yesterday, a good turnout, although the 2 new guys that came on Friday did not come back. DH & I took the golf cart to the top of the hill when I got back. It was overcast when we left, but the sun started peeking out and it got hotter. When we got back I picked green beans and tomatoes and watered the porch plants that don't get watered by the sprinkler. I was a sweaty mess by the time I was done, so showered and put on a lightweight dress I've been wearing these days in lieu of p.j.'s. Think plaid moo moo. I had lunch and then emptied out the linen closet in our bedroom for the flooring project. Then couch time. I did a workout with weights in the basement, thinking it was Tuesday. I usually do the weight workouts on Tuesdays and Thursdays, sometimes Saturdays. Oh well. We had grilled pork chops for dinner with pasta, green beans, sliced tomatoes. After dinner I watched GOT and worked on the Florida State tissue box cover.
We had thunder and it got dark yesterday afternoon, but never rained. It's sunny today, with a chance of storms this afternoon. It's supposed to be a little cooler every day, hoping to put off mowing the yard until later in the week when it will be in the 80's instead of the 90's.
Jan- WTG steps, PU, AP, tracking your off the cliff day. Good insight that the day was like a regular day back in the day. Sorry you struck out at Costco and World Market. DH will drink the occasional beer, but mostly drinks rum. We found an old electric ice cream maker in the playhouse at my mom's, it went right in the trash. I do remember that she had a crank one when I was young, not sure what happened to it. I love my Cuisinart one.
Carole- WTG for your AF weekend, enjoy that dress!
Vicki- GL with VBS this week, WTG getting your steps and not stopping for ice cream.
Cindy- I’ve had those lazy, yet tired days. GL with PT today.

M-W Word of the Day
limpid adjective | LIM-pid What It Means Limpid describes things that are perfectly transparent or clear, or that are simple in style. // Though the stream was deep, flecks and shimmers in the sand shone up through its limpid water. // The author is known for her limpid, exacting prose.

September 2 Celebrate! Final weigh in: Good morning all. Home from my meeting and was happy the scale wasn't higher. I did talk to the girl there about feeling so stuck. I"m going to give a serious effort of weighing, measuring and tracking this week and see what I get next Tuesday. Since I'll be at the cabin I can just leave all my tools out, not worry about DH and see if I can really make a difference. We talked about negative talk, keeping a positive mantra etc. I will work on that too. Today I will get my steps, get the car packed up with most things, except food, cut some flowers from here for my one bouquet for the fair. Took out some chicken, not sure if that's what's for dinner but going to grill it up either way to take with me. I can do this!! DS was in a chatty mood last night, GF had gone to work, he and DH talked for over an hour again. Mostly about a patient that had died, knew it was coming and the ethics of keeping her going for so long. The husband would ask DS advice, which he can't give, and there were just a lot of messy family dynamics. He is looking forward to the down time here and at the cabin next week. Momma can't wait either My BFF and I are going back and forth about going to our 50th reunion in September. I don't have many people I care about seeing, and see them when I go down to visit anyway, but it might be fun to people watch She's have to fly from Oregon, so she isn't sure, except that maybe we would extend the trip to a visit to Ohio where she'd like to visit where her Grandma, mom and family are from as she does genealogy. Guess we have to decide by August 1st. No other plans for the day. Much cooler out and will be a nice day for a walk. Have a great day all. Jan Amy Sounds like you were busy, bet your house dress is comfy. We were supposed to get some storm last night but I think it stayed mostly south and then way north. Guess Chicago got hit pretty good. Hope it cools off a bit for you. Carole Yay for being AF on your trip. Can be so hard if others are drinking. Glad you are getting a dress just because, enjoy. Was the storm bad by you? GG I'm sure this week with VBS will go by very quickly. Glad you don't have to stay as late as the teachers. Yay for no ice cream stop. Save it for an end of the week treat or get some SF fudge bars or something. I have my lite ice cream at the cabin, 2 pts for 1/2 cup. I put that in a diet root beer and it really feels like a treat. Cindy Lazy days are just rebooting you for the next push Hope all your AC's are still working well and you are staying cool. Waving hi.

Hi All,
Had crazy dreams last night and did not feel at all rested. I had PT this morning and it went fine. I told my PT person that the ortho surgeon said I am good after next week. That didn't go well....one of the focuses has been being able to kneel but with the arthritis in the knee, I might never be able to kneel easily. I'm not sure if I will get an evaluation next week or what but I am just tired of going to it. Most of the exercises I can easily do at home. I'm fortunate that I am not paying for any of it.
Been trying to get some answers from my new waste management company. I've been on hold for over an hour! Their site is messed up and I can't get my payments to go through. I guess Friday will be my day to just stay on the phone until I get it straightened out. Tomorrow I have my infusion and then Thursday PT. Some time I will remember that I am always tired a few days before an infustion.
The nine years since DS passed away sometimes seem like yesterday and other times realizing that life goes on and I date stuff from the date. This certainly wasn't how we imagined our retirement. It definitely impacted and changed the trajectory of DS and my life. There are times when memories are not the best but I focused on the positive memories.
Amy, thanks for getting us started. I like the image of the plaid moo moo dress. I can imagine you can get rid of lots of clothing. Do you want to buy some replacement pieces? I think about getting an ice cream maker but since ice cream is still in the fridge from Christmas time, probably won't. Looked about on Amazon but didn't find anything I wanted with Prime Days. Hope all goes on time and well getting the floors done!
Jan, enjoy your cabin time. When will the judging be at the fair? Will your sister be joining you this weekend? It will be wonderful having DS and GF with you. After we took DH off life support, the doctor and his nurse said they would have made the same decision. I knew DH was gone so didn't look for advice. I'm sure it is hard on DS. It was 101 degrees today and very thankful the A/C is working!
Vicki, enjoy VBS. Woot for not stopping for ice cream. Belated for saying it but it is amazing that Jack and team are playing in the high heat!
Carole, yay for getting a dress just because! Woot for being AF on your trip!
Cathy, how are the get togethers doing and any favorite food items being shared?
I can see another early night. Fingers crossed traffic will be okay in the AM. One of the smaller bridges is starting to be torn down which will just add more issues. Trying to mark the dates on my calendar so that I won't schedule going anywhere!
Hugs to all, Cindy

Busy week - Yesterday I was at a potluck with American friends; today I will play cards with women from Italy, Africa, and the USA; and tomorrow I head to Jounieh and Beirut with my husband so he can do whatever it is that he wants to do. I will take a book to read although...hot humid weather sitting in the car doesn't sound fun. - Not sure when I will be able to do laundry since we have not had water delivered by the main water lines for four or five days. We have stored water in tanks but...need to conserve till we get some water. Yesterday's meal was good and perfect for summer.
The Menu: * chicken picata * cherry black lentil salad *carmelized onion and mushroom hand pies * peach tomato caprese salad * quiche * lebanese potato salad * apple fluff - some sort of jello dish * orzo and cucumber salad * carrot-beet salad (think it is grated raw veg with dressing) * Apricot upside down cake * Jello-whipped cream combination
