Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be!We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

Labor of Love NEW CHALLENGE July 5 through September 2
The word labor implies a specific task or effort, many times painful or arduous. A labor of love is doing something because you really want to, not because of any monetary reward you might get for it even though it involves hard work.
This challenge is all about a labor of love, reminding yourself to love yourself so it becomes your norm.
How often do we do something for someone else because it makes them happy and in turn makes us happy. But as the saying goes “how can you love someone else if you can’t love yourself”.
There are many ways we don’t show ourselves love. We are harder on ourselves than on anyone else. We go over and over “why did I drink too much” and the ever popular "if I lost weight I would be so much happier”. We are not showing ourselves love by overeating and over drinking, we are doing the opposite. To start, give yourself grace and tell yourself yesterday is done, tomorrow isn’t here, so let’s deal with the present.
We worry about so many things, things we have no control over. Resilience, happiness and freedom comes from knowing what to care about and what to not let us get bogged down. Let go of things that do not work for you, help you, or encourage you. It is hard! You want to be a good person but be good to yourself first. Send out positivity but give yourself positivity.
We all have bad days, nothing goes right, nasty people out and about, stress levels are over the top and you have no control. This can be true in many ways but your control is to step away, love yourself.
Journal it, put it down on paper, and then let it go.
So each morning give yourself an affirmation. Here are some suggestions:
#1. I am worthy. #2. I am enough. #3. I am beautiful inside and out. #4. Even my “flaws” have good and helpful aspects. #5. I love and approve of myself. #6. I am delighted with who I am. #7. I fully approve of who I am, even as I better myself. #8. I approve of myself and love myself completely. #9. I am happy in my own skin and in my own circumstances. #10. I am surrounded by love. #11. I am treasured for who I really am. #12. I am worthy of happiness and love. #13. I enjoy my own company as I get in touch with my true self. #14. I am at peace and happy when I’m alone.
It may sound like Stuart Smiley but go with it!

DH & I drove to the lake to walk yesterday morning. We saw a group of 5 deer in the woods, including a baby with spots. Afterwards we went to Home Depot to look for some replacement flowers for the whiskey barrels in front. I've never had sunpatiens die on me. Also bought a pot of petunias at Pike's. Then we stopped at Sherwin Williams to buy some trim paint, in case they want to paint the quarter round to match the baseboard. I was shocked at how expensive paint has gotten, over $100 per gallon! After we got home I had lunch and some couch time. We got subs from Publix for dinner. After dinner I stitched on the FSU tissue box cover while watching GOT. I was in bed a bit earlier since I knew I would be getting up earlier today.
The bedroom has been stripped of everything but furniture, which the flooring people will move. They are supposed to arrive between 9 and 10. I had work-related dreams last night and do not feel rested. I got a call from work yesterday telling me I had education modules to do. I worked on them yesterday afternoon and will try to knock the rest out today. It rained yesterday afternoon and early this morning and is still cloudy and gray.
Jan- WTG steps, PU, stretches, AP, blue dot, AF, going to WW meeting, focusing on weighing, measuring, tracking. Enjoy your cabin time. Glad DS & DH had a long chat, it's easy for nurses to get involved with families they work with. I'm sure getting excited for his visit. I don't think you'll regret going to the reunion.
Cindy- Sorry about your crazy dreams and not feeling rested. Glad PT went fine other than the discussion about stopping. You know your body better than they do. Hope you got your issue with Waste Management resolved, the infusion goes well and the traffic isn't too awful. A tree came down onto I-20 in Atlanta a few days ago, you can imagine what that did to traffic. It's strange that the time that passes after a major life event can seem both long and short. Hugs! I don't feel the need to replace any clothing yet, may need some new pants by the fall.
Cathy- Enjoy your busy week, cards today, trip to Beirut tomorrow. Hope you get the water delivery soon.

September 2 Celebrate! Final weigh in: Good morning all. Getting my "chores" done so I can head out to the cabin this morning. It's a beautiful day, the cardinal was singing when I opened the front door and I'm looking forward to my away time and the fair. Sis may meet me at the cabin this afternoon, needs to bring her entries out to me as she will be working tomorrow when the drop off time is, so I will take her things. She is taking the dog to grooming late this afternoon so won't be out this evening. I'll need to decide if I want to bake my cake today, or wait until tomorrow morning. Taking a big bunch of Echinacea's for my one bouquet and some butterfly "weeds" that I have here to start my wildflower bunch. Will have to walk the road today up north to cut some wild daisies and ? I find to fill it in. We drop things tomorrow, the judging for food will be done first as they sample and then auction the rest of the plate off and just leave a photo with your recipe on display. I like that idea as at the fair when we were young, they just left all the breads, cakes etc to sit for 3 days and then threw everything away. I'll be able to check on my other exhibits on Friday afternoon. The few days will go quickly and then when I get home it will be time to go to the airport to get DS and GF! yay. He called again last night, talked to DH for a bit. He had showed up at work and they said he wasn't on, moved to Thursday morning. Ill be glad to be off the grid mostly the next few days, I do find I'm more hooked on my scrolling time than I like and it's harder for me to get to a quiet place, even up north. Yesterday I felt so antsy, just get going already. I used to drink on those days to get the time over, just go to bed. I went and walked all around Target and then the grocery instead and felt better after. I'm learning..maybe you CAN teach an Old Dog! ha ha. Have a great Hump day all. I will check in when I can. Sure I'll get some service but at least there I'm more careful because I pay by the Gig, no Facebook or Pintrest rabbit holes! I do that at the library if I want to use the free service. Better get moving, will check in when I can. Jan Amy Thanks for starting us. Hope the flooring people are there and getting busy. Is it a one day project? Yikes, glad we're done painting if those are the prices now. I'm still waiting for my zinnias to bloom, the ones from seed. Have some in pots at the cabin, will be curious if they are blooming. I think up north most of the baby deer will be done with spots by now, but we'll see. Have only seen a few babies this year but lots of adults. Can you leave for your walk while the workers are there or will you wait? Hoping DH will think to water my things while I"m gone if we don't get rain. It's been so regular this summer we haven't had to really water at all, except a few hanging pots. I'll be mad if he let's everything die in 5 days!! Cindy GL at PT and glad you can just be done soon. Hope the drive to your infusion is uneventful and that it gives you some energy back. Would your retirement with DH included another move do you think or would you still have stayed in Texas? Sorry that you had to be the one to make the decision but don't understand the people who just keep family on the machines for so long, that was what DS was questioning. Do they really hope for some miracle or just can't face the finality. I'll let you know how "RICH" I am on Friday or Saturday after the judging I do feel pretty confident that my Babar will win me a big $4! That's what first place is. I laugh because buying cake materials and making my little terrarium cost more that you could even win, but it's still fun. Cathy Your menu for the pot luck looked yummy. Have fun at your outings and hope DH can find all the things he needs quickly so you don't have to sit for long in the car. Hope the water returns soon. Time to get out the door.

Hi all. Made it to the cabin and almost had a whoops! I was getting ready to go, cutting flowers and kind of messing around. I get a text from my sister that says the newspaper says today is the drop off of the items for the fair! Don't know why in my head it was tomorrow, I thought the fair ran Friday-Sunday. Yikes. Drove up here without any of my dallying around stops. Still needed to bake a cake and get it cool enough to take to the fair. Sis met me at the cabin and helped me get some things organized and unpacked. Got the cake going and then wandered around the yard trying to get a bouquet of wild flowers together. Thought I'd have time to drive up the road a bit tomorrow, but it will do. We went @ 3 to drop off, got so see some of the competition Some really cute crocheted gnomes, lots of planters and flowers and some nice quilts. I guess they judge tomorrow morning but not sure if you can go in to look until Friday morning. Anyway, I'll probably head back to town tomorrow and run my few errands I'd planned to do on the way in. 2 of my hanging baskets here have fried and I want to fix them up before company comes next week. If I can still find petunias or something I'll buy them to replace, otherwise I'm going to check the nice nursery and maybe just buy a couple baskets. Maybe they'll have some end of the season deals. Sis went on home, taking the dog in, so I just had a chicken brat for dinner and now going to read the little local paper. Could get some rain tonight it looks like, cool and windy here but feels nice on the porch. Have a great evening all. Will check in at some point tomorrow. Jan

Hi girls! I was down .8 this morning. I’ll take it! I’m getting close to where I was before vacation! VBS is good for my activity! Yesterday I had over 12,000 steps and I should make 10,000 today. That’s with going line dancing this morning. Tomorrow is our last day and will end with the program. It always amazes me how much kids can learn! They absolutely love the music, and they sing and dance, every one of them! So much fun! We got rain today too! Not enough, but at least it rained!
Amy: Wow, that’s a lot for paint! Will the flooring people be done today?
Jan: Glad your sister read the paper! Enjoy your solitude!
Cathy: I hope it wasn’t too hot waiting for DH!
Cindy: Glad you spoke up about PT! Has DS heard from f/g again?
Carole: I keep forgetting to tell you I bought a Bunco game last week at a yard sale! Figured the family could play!

Hello!
I'm yawning like crazy. Stayed up too late catching up on stuff and then up somewhat early to get to appointment. The drive to Dallas was not fun but thankfully DS was able to drive and met up with his friend to discuss stuff in the hospital cafeteria. While there they were eavesdropping on sales management group for the hospital and facilities associated with it They were trying to figure out ways to force the doctors to participate in sales force which is a very consuming thing. Their thought was having doctors contact patients who are unhappy with them...ummm, seriously! I've "eavesdropped" enough to know so many patients are the problem. What about legal liability? Change doctors if you aren't happy. I get surveys from most of the visits I make and I try to mention people by name who have been really helpful. DS and his friend said that the sales management group were really upset that the doctors were not participating or respecting their ideas.
Drive home was not easy but glad I wasn't driving. Anyway once home, DS got to work on the stuff that needed to be done for his friend. I just did odds and ends. I made a salad for dinner and got out some wontons to sprinkle on top....oh my, they were so stale...expired in 2022. I really need to do another clean out of the pantry. I wonder about keeping my Costco membership but know I would miss it. I just need to be more organized as to what to buy and not stockpiling!
I did buy a few items on Amazon Prime day sale. Nothing that I wouldn't normally buy and found a few good sales.
Waste Management is still an open issue. Will try again tomorrow.
Amy, I was surprised how expensive paint was when I bought the paint for the bathroom. The brand was BEHR and was about $60 a gallon and I felt yikes at the time. Now I need to find another wall or two to paint the same color. I hope all went well with the flooring and it has been completed and most importantly, you are happy with it. We got some rain today but not quite enough to drench the ground. It may rain early AM. I appreciate you saying I know my body better than the PT people. I needed to hear that. Will talk to them about finishing up tomorrow. I think I might have to do a final evaluation. I can imagine what a tree coming down on I-20 created as a traffic jam!
Jan, glad that your sister called and you were able to get your submissions in at the fair! Glad you were able to see some of the competition. Sounds like some nice items. When will you hear the results? Hope you are able to find flowers or hanging baskets. Will DH go to the cabin with the kids? Enjoy your time away from the news!
Cathy, the menu sounds wonderful! Hope you had a wonderful time with friends playing cards. Hope all went well with your trip with DH.
Hi Vicki! Yay for being done and getting so many steps! Glad the kids are having such a great time at VBS. She texts DS during the day and he responds when he gets a chance. But no invite to come over!
Hi Carole! When do you head to Florida?
Sunset is beautiful night and looking at it from the window. Don't know any more bug bites.
Wishing everyone a wonderful evening.
Hugs, Cindy
