Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be!We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

Labor of Love NEW CHALLENGE July 5 through September 2
The word labor implies a specific task or effort, many times painful or arduous. A labor of love is doing something because you really want to, not because of any monetary reward you might get for it even though it involves hard work.
This challenge is all about a labor of love, reminding yourself to love yourself so it becomes your norm.
How often do we do something for someone else because it makes them happy and in turn makes us happy. But as the saying goes “how can you love someone else if you can’t love yourself”.
There are many ways we don’t show ourselves love. We are harder on ourselves than on anyone else. We go over and over “why did I drink too much” and the ever popular "if I lost weight I would be so much happier”. We are not showing ourselves love by overeating and over drinking, we are doing the opposite. To start, give yourself grace and tell yourself yesterday is done, tomorrow isn’t here, so let’s deal with the present.
We worry about so many things, things we have no control over. Resilience, happiness and freedom comes from knowing what to care about and what to not let us get bogged down. Let go of things that do not work for you, help you, or encourage you. It is hard! You want to be a good person but be good to yourself first. Send out positivity but give yourself positivity.
We all have bad days, nothing goes right, nasty people out and about, stress levels are over the top and you have no control. This can be true in many ways but your control is to step away, love yourself.
Journal it, put it down on paper, and then let it go.
So each morning give yourself an affirmation. Here are some suggestions:
#1. I am worthy. #2. I am enough. #3. I am beautiful inside and out. #4. Even my “flaws” have good and helpful aspects. #5. I love and approve of myself. #6. I am delighted with who I am. #7. I fully approve of who I am, even as I better myself. #8. I approve of myself and love myself completely. #9. I am happy in my own skin and in my own circumstances. #10. I am surrounded by love. #11. I am treasured for who I really am. #12. I am worthy of happiness and love. #13. I enjoy my own company as I get in touch with my true self. #14. I am at peace and happy when I’m alone.
It may sound like Stuart Smiley but go with it!

The flooring people showed up around 9:30, they mostly spoke Venezuelan, but one guy spoke heavily accented English. DH told him to try to not to disconnect the AT&T router that comes up through the floor from the basement. He said "no problem", but when the TV and internet went out we saw that they had completely disconnected it. Luckily we could use the hotspots on our phones. They finished up around 5, the floor looks really good although is noticeably darker than the rest of the downstairs. They were able to join it to the family room floor without a transition, so happy about that. They need to come back sometime next week to install a transition strip where the floor meets the bathroom tile. I spent most of the day working on the education modules for work. I got them all done except for one that kept freezing when I was almost done. After re-doing it 3 times, I opened a ticket with the help desk. I see I have an email from them saying they fixed it, we'll see. Even though we mostly sat around all day yesterday, the hammering, sawing, and glue fumes were a lot to deal with. DH & I were both exhausted after the flooring people left, so we ordered pizza. After dinner I finished the FSU tissue box cover and watched GOT.
We got more rain yesterday. It's partly sunny day with lower chances of rain. The ATT people are supposed to come fix the router between 12 and 4 today. I also did a little Prime Day shopping yesterday. I need to do a more thorough sweeping of the new floor before I put stuff away. I got a message from my doctor noting that the A1C had gone down and "continue healthy eating", so yay for that.
Jan- WTG steps, PU, stretches, No Jiggle July, AP, blue dot, rollover, AF. Enjoy the cabin and the fair. Glad you were able to get your entries in on time, clearly you're not in it for the money, LOL. Hope DH can keep your plants alive at home. We probably could have walked while the floorers were here, but it rained a good part of the day.
Vicki- Woohoo for the scale coming down and getting lots of steps at VBS.
Cindy- LOL over the idea of getting doctors to help with sales. Glad DS drove you to and from Dallas. I have a hard time justifying my Costco membership, but it's nice to have. Yay for seeing the beautiful sunset from your window.
Cathy- Loved the picture of the peach caprese salad.

M-W Word of the Day
otiose adjective | OH-shee-ohss What It Means Otiose is a formal word typically used to describe either something that serves no useful purpose, or something that has no use or effect. // I enjoyed the storyline, but was bothered by the otiose punctuation. // The new zoning regulations rendered their proposal for the empty lot otiose.

September 2 Celebrate! Final weigh in: Good morning all. No idea how my fitbit says I burned so much, unless it was just trying to burn up the junk I ate Maybe that was a good trick to fool my metabolism and now it will burn extra today. Will head into town this morning and see what's going on. May walk the marina, it would be less buggy that here and always pretty. I will swing through the park and check the fair buildings to see if judging is done when I come home but I think it won't open up the exhibits until tomorrow. Today is a lot of judging of rabbits, cows etc. One of my baskets came back a little bit after the water but I think I will put the two kind of dead ones in the "hospital" for now, cut them back pretty hard and see what happens. Will still look for new ones in town. My goal is no junk for while there, or at home for that matter. I had bought the donuts at the store when I stopped for a potty break. Luckily Sis took the rest home to her DH. Don't know what gets into me, vacation "treat" mode, or just none of our stores at home ever seem to make just a plain cake donut, everything is raised, or filled. I will say it tasted so good so now be done with that. Tonight I'll be on my own for dinner, I have LO grilled chicken from home, a corn I need to use and can make some salad. Our fair is so small, it's not like the UP state fair later in the summer, no real food temptations, maybe a kettle corn booth, an ice cream stand and then the usual fried stuff out of a food truck. I'm not worried eating anything there. I do know on Saturday morning when we go for "Ladies Day" there will be coffee cake and coffee. I'll save up for a piece of that. They always have a nice presentation, health or food related usually. Then they have an auction drawing that has some great prizes. Usually everyone gets something as not that many people come, although the last few years the word has been getting out. Guess I better get moving. have a great day all. Jan Amy Glad the floors are done, sorry the internet info didn't translate. My sentence of the day is "Our government currently seems to be in an otiose phase." Hope the rain stops and you can get your outside walk. Did the module problem get fixed? Did you get you ed requirements finished? My friend called me last night and said Let's do it!! So I guess we're going to the 50th reunion! I"m sure we'll have fun. Cindy Glad DS could drive you to the hospital and also get something accomplished while he was waiting. Do you feel better today after the infusion? I'm pretty sure i can't check on entries until tomorrow but going to drive by later this afternoon. I, too, need to go through the cupboards here for expired things. When I made my cake yesterday I saw my baking powder was from 2022. It's what I had so hopefully it still worked ok but I know other things need to go. DH will come to the cabin for a few days with all of us, he'll do it to be with the boy I figure when all 8 of us are here with the giant dog he will handle for a day and then maybe go home a day early. GG Glad the scale went down and you are almost to pre vacation! Can't believe VBS will already be over. Enjoy the program, so happy the kids love to participate in the singing and dancing. Waving hi. Just ran out to photo 3 deer swimming/walking across the river. Then 2 males popped out on the island across the way. Gotta love the nature channel.

We left around 8am, I drove to Jounieh so Mounah could check in with an office that was closed, drove on to Beirut, headed north when he finished with an appointment, didn't eat on the way back BUT ate all afternoon grazing on less than healthy foods. Dread weighing in the morning. Ah well...tomorrow is another day. It is warm and humid and the two hours without electricity to run t he fan this afternoon were...not nice.
Yesterday it was hot playing cards even with two fans on. The friend that is undergoing chemotherapy came with us and we left earlier as she was too warm even without hair on her head. So, we left when she was ready to go. The other person visiting from Italy doesn't like playing by the rules and set up HER rules that has us unable to go out as quickly as we should while she accrues more points...ah well...she is only here for a few months.
I hope there is enough water for a quick shower tonight.

Hi friends! It was so nice out today, sunny and 75. Jeff and I went golfing (I did terrible but had 1 par!) I took the pups for a walk and then a bike ride. Tomorrow I leave for IN. Deka fit is on Saturday, I’m supposed to go at 8:30. I just had some Ben and Jerry’s ice cream—oh. My. Gosh. ! SO yummy.
Amy, that’s great your AC1 (?) went down!
Jan, good luck with your fair entries! Are you staying at the cabin until your DS comes or go home first? I can’t believe how beautiful that must have been with deers in the water!
Cindy, I hope your infusion works wonders for you! Would you consider moving closer to your doctors? I just can’t imagine having to drive in those conditions all the time.
Cathy, I would cry without air conditioning!
Gg, we’ve been playing bunco for over 20 years. I thought it’d last 6 months!

Ding dong PT done, PT done, Ding Dong I am not going back!
I woke up this morning thinking nothing scheduled then remembered PT. I so didn't want to go but decided I was going to tell them I'm not coming back. I told DS and he supported my decision. So I get there and the receptionist tells me that I need another evaluation for Medicare to continue therapy. She told me that she has never come across Medicare not okaying it, but if it did, this is the amount I'm on the hook to pay. I knew my therapist was possibly coming in a few minutes late and the other therapist suggested I warm up on the bike. A guy came in on crutches with wife and son. His appointment was an hour later than mine but as soon as he saw my therapist, he owned her....he would not shut up, he got a second opinion and he is in much worse shape. So PT moved him to a table and I just decided to go on to do my other exercises. The guy has a torn ACL and a detached ligament and something else that the therapist couldn't figure out what he meant. She took his bandages off and he needed to be retaped and demanded that his leg be shaved...and OMG, the therapist did. She came over to me while she made a mix of soap and water to suggest another exercise. And then I can hear him ask her to shave his other leg so they matched. His wife was his cheerleader. Therapist ignore the request, got back to me again and I just told her I was done. If my knee gets painful I will contact her but I'm done. If my knee gets painful, Tylenol will be my therapist. I'm just happy to be done with it. I should have spoken up sooner but it seemed like everything lined up today to make it easier to stop.
Amy, love the cat photo! I'm can imagine your cats hid under a bed. Your experience with the flooring guys brought back memories of when we had our roof redone and I specifically told them do not destory the Direct TV satellite. It was crashed to the ground. My Spanish is not great but it has gotten better with some words. Sounds like you are happy with the flooring. How frustrating with the module. I definitely would have gone with a pizza after the day you had with the floor work. Hope the router was fixed. Glad the A1C has gone down! I feel the same about my Costco membership. Thanks for the recipe! I don't know why but I hesitate to use cottage cheese in recipes but plan to try this one.
Jan, never thought about the baking powder though I imagine mine is expired! We still have Cadbury eggs from two years ago that DS hasn't eaten. Have no clue what they would taste like. Need to stop my hoarding. Glad DH will spend some time at the cabin. I'm sorry I can't remember if DS and GF will stay at your home as well. Enjoy the time together! I'm looking forward to hearing the results of your entries. Sounds like lots of fun and Ladies' Day sounds nice! Wishing you success! Yay for going to the Fiftieth Reunion. Did you go to high school in Wisconsin?
Cathy, you have a great attitude, I would be frustrated with the person visiting from Italy. I'm not a fan of people making rules to help themselves. Fingers crossed for enough water for a shower tonight. Maybe skip a weigh in? I feel blessed to have A/C and I hope you have electricity to run the fans.
Hi Vicki, hope you are having a wonderful day!
Hi Carole, great success doing Deka Fit! Are you going with friends? Sounds like you had a wonderful day! I would change doctors before I move. I think once I get rid of a few other doctors, I can manage the infusion and RA appointment. Hope springs eternal!
Off to fill the feeders! Happy to not have anything scheduled for tomorrow other than catch up stuff that I will be happy to do!
Hugs to all, Cindy

Only four hours sleep. Did have electricity all night and will have it till 4pm this afternoon then off till 6pm. If we were smart we would head out to a shop with AC or a mall and walk or something. If it is not too hot, perhaps nap? Today I will tackle pots, pans, and plastic and tidy the kitchen. There was no incoming water so took a sponge bath before bed and it was refreshing to cool my skin. Today Mounah wants to go to Tripoli to look at fans for the outdoor gazebo - I won't probably sit in the gazebo due to bugs though a fan might assist in sending them somewhere else...if we are out there when there is electricity. If we do go to Tripoli, will stop by Spinneys for some groceries and perhaps go to Baytna for lunch or to buy some food to bring home to eat.
