Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be!We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

Labor of Love NEW CHALLENGE July 5 through September 2
The word labor implies a specific task or effort, many times painful or arduous. A labor of love is doing something because you really want to, not because of any monetary reward you might get for it even though it involves hard work.
This challenge is all about a labor of love, reminding yourself to love yourself so it becomes your norm.
How often do we do something for someone else because it makes them happy and in turn makes us happy. But as the saying goes “how can you love someone else if you can’t love yourself”.
There are many ways we don’t show ourselves love. We are harder on ourselves than on anyone else. We go over and over “why did I drink too much” and the ever popular "if I lost weight I would be so much happier”. We are not showing ourselves love by overeating and over drinking, we are doing the opposite. To start, give yourself grace and tell yourself yesterday is done, tomorrow isn’t here, so let’s deal with the present.
We worry about so many things, things we have no control over. Resilience, happiness and freedom comes from knowing what to care about and what to not let us get bogged down. Let go of things that do not work for you, help you, or encourage you. It is hard! You want to be a good person but be good to yourself first. Send out positivity but give yourself positivity.
We all have bad days, nothing goes right, nasty people out and about, stress levels are over the top and you have no control. This can be true in many ways but your control is to step away, love yourself.
Journal it, put it down on paper, and then let it go.
So each morning give yourself an affirmation. Here are some suggestions:
#1. I am worthy. #2. I am enough. #3. I am beautiful inside and out. #4. Even my “flaws” have good and helpful aspects. #5. I love and approve of myself. #6. I am delighted with who I am. #7. I fully approve of who I am, even as I better myself. #8. I approve of myself and love myself completely. #9. I am happy in my own skin and in my own circumstances. #10. I am surrounded by love. #11. I am treasured for who I really am. #12. I am worthy of happiness and love. #13. I enjoy my own company as I get in touch with my true self. #14. I am at peace and happy when I’m alone.
It may sound like Stuart Smiley but go with it!

The ATT guy called yesterday morning when we were on our way out the door to walk to say he could come early, so I puttered until he was done. The floor installers did break the fiber, but there was enough slack to stretch it from the box outside, through the basement rafters, and up through the floor into the bedroom. He also said that he upgraded the box and router, tested our internet speed and declared all good. When he was done we took the golf cart to the nature trail to walk. It was pretty hot since it was almost noon, but we persevered. It started clouding over, so it wasn't too bad mowing, edging, picking, etc. The rain started just as DH finished mowing, so we lucked out there. I went back out when the rain stopped to plant the petunia and sunpatiens I bought earlier in the week and watered the hanging ferns on the porch since they don't really get watered when it rains. Then shower, lunch, couch time.
It's overcast this morning with more rain likely. We're talking about going to the Silver Comet trail to walk and hitting up Costco. We're celebrating DH's birthday tonight, the plan is crab legs. His actual birthday is Monday.
Jan- WTG steps, PU, stretches, no jiggle July, tracking, AF, big calorie burn. Yay for the basket coming back, GL with the other 2. Hope your fair entries do well and you get a nice prize on Ladies Day. Yay for deciding to go to the reunion. I have some ancient ingredients in my pantry too. Yay for seeing the deer.
Cathy- Sorry about the afternoon of grazing and no electricity for the fan, being hot at cards, and having to deal with the "cheater". Glad you had electricity overnight, hope you get that shower soon.
Carole- WTG golfing with DH, walking the pups, and the bike ride. GL with Deka fit, where is it in Indiana?
Cindy- Hurray for being done with PT, sorry about the entitled guy. I'm not a big fan of cottage cheese, but I don't really notice it the Chiles Rellenos recipe. Woohoo for nothing scheduled for today!

M-W Word of the Day
tomfoolery noun | tahm-FOO-luh-ree What It Means Tomfoolery is a word with an old-fashioned sound to it that refers to playful or silly behavior. // The antics in the play itself apparently inspired tomfoolery behind the scenes as well, as cast members constantly played practical jokes on one another.

September 2 Celebrate! Final weigh in: Good morning all. Happy Friday! Going to be a beautiful day here. I start out the morning in my sweatshirt and sometimes a blanket on me on the porch, and by afternoon it's warm and toasty. Enjoying the bird show and breakfast and in an hour our so will head over to the fair. Seems I get the best internet service here in the mornings and then the rest of the day is pretty hit and miss. That's fine, keeps me from just scrolling and I work on projects, chores or just relax. I washed about 1/2 the windows outside and in yesterday, mostly for my own purpose of sometimes I have to try to take the photos through the glass as if I open the back door, whatever I'm seeing hears me and bolts. Yesterday afternoon I did go over to the park to see if the entries were open yet and all still closed for the "still" things. I did wander around the cow/chicken/rabbit barn and saw the cutest little girl with her prize rooster. I asked her dad if I could take her pic, he said sure. OMG, winner for next years fair Not sure if Sis will come out after work today or not, but she'll come tomorrow for Ladies Day and then back here. I think I'll take out some fish and do it tomorrow while she's here. Also make up a pan of corn bread to use the last of the just expired cornmeal up. Bought a new box at Walmart and see it's only good til Feb of 25. No wonder it's always out of date. Just need to remember to take it home at the end of summer. That will be my exciting day:) I will check back in later if possible, let you know if I got rich Enjoy your day all. Jan Amy Have fun celebrating DH birthday. Hope you get in a nice walk and find what you need at Costco. I'm hoping when I go back they will have the protein drink again, they've been out awhile at my Costco. I think about you cleaning and organizing and wonder how I will manage with 7 more people up here as I have pretty much every surface covered with all my stuff. Tubs, knitting, backpack camera, bags and books. I went to the "good" nursery yesterday and hit the jack pot. They were just putting everything at 30% off and I got some beautiful flowers, no half dead stuff like at Walmart and Lowes I hope they don't sell out too much before Monday when I go home as I wanted a fushia basket and maybe a huge begonia they had. The greenhouse was still pretty full, so fingers crossed. After the fair this morning I'll come back and refresh my pots that need it. Cindy Yay for no more PT. Sorry that so many feel so entitled. I just keep telling myself, be kind, not my circus. It is annoying tho when they are using your time and space. I went to HS in Wheaton, Ill. Home of the lovely Wheaton College with the big Billy Graham Center and the home of the Belushi brothers...nice contrast there. Jim was 3 years older than me at Wheaton Central and John was a year older than my brother. I do remember both of them in the HS talent shows that we always went to. Our high school has been torn down, except for the gym, and replaced with a Marianos grocery store. Carole Have fun at Deka. I'm sure you will do great! I'll go home on Monday and we get the kids Wed morning at 9 in Milwaukee. Toying with the idea of continuing on to Chicago if the kids aren't too exhausted, otherwise probably won't get there. Heading back up here with everyone on Saturday. Still trying to figure out sleeping for 8. GG Enjoy you quiet weekend. Sure your program went well. Are you loving you new car still, figured out all the bells and whistles? When do the kids come home from Florida? Cathy Enjoy your day. Sorry the water didn't come back on and hope Dh can get a fan if it would help on the patio. Sorry about the "cheater" lady who wants it all her own way. Waving hi.

Hi girls. Just checking in. Went to see my entries at the fair, got 1st's on about 1/2 and then the rest 2-4th down the line. Much better on my crafty things and my cake even got a first, photos are all over the place. I need to go look at all the entries again, there are a lot. I'm thinking more of the winners are 8x10's and many of the subjects are taken in pretty close. Something to think about if I'm going to keep entering. Probably get about $100 and change check at some point, will cover all my fees and framing, and buy me some new yarn or ?? ha ha. Going back in a couple hours for the auction. I'm wondering if I need to change out the platter I put my cake on, I don't know if they give that to the person buying or if they change things out. Didn't think of that when I was looking for something to display it on. Don't really want to "donate" it. I'll try to get to the fair early enough before the auction so I can talk to someone. Maybe bring a large cardboard covered in foil to change it out. Didn't do much else. Marched around after walking at the fair to get my steps up. Going to knit a bit before heading back out. Hope you have had a nice day. Jan

Hi All!
Amy, happy early birthday celebration to DH! Enjoy the crab legs! Did you get them at Costco? Glad the AT&T was able to come early and get the job done. Our internet has been so bad lately, I know I need to call and see if they can do anything. Glad the rain held off so yard work could be done.
Jan, congrats on your fair wins! Hope you got something nice at the auction. Did you get your platter back? I couldn't imagine having 7 extra people in my house. Is DH going to drive the RV to the cabin to have more space? Glad you were able to get some beautiful plants. I've yet to look at plants but need to go out to the yard tomorrow and see what I could put in this fall to grow for next spring. Glad you decided to go to your reunion with your friend. There is a Wheaton College in Massachusetts.
I realized that I needed to get a birthday gift off today if I wanted it to make it to my friend in time. I had the gift but hadn't wrapped it or found a box for it. Accomplished that and made the trip to the post office. Came home and did my at home exercises. I am still working on kneeling. Was very happy to see my date planner has nothing scheduled for next week. I have one appointment at the end of July but it was made with the idea if I didn't need it just cancel. So it will be canceled.
Cathy, hope you have water, are able to get a good night sleep and your trip shopping went well.
Hi Vicki!
Hi Carole!
Need to catch up on laundry and general clean up this weekend.
Hugs, Cindy
