Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be!We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

Labor of Love NEW CHALLENGE July 5 through September 2
The word labor implies a specific task or effort, many times painful or arduous. A labor of love is doing something because you really want to, not because of any monetary reward you might get for it even though it involves hard work.
This challenge is all about a labor of love, reminding yourself to love yourself so it becomes your norm.
How often do we do something for someone else because it makes them happy and in turn makes us happy. But as the saying goes âhow can you love someone else if you canât love yourselfâ.
There are many ways we donât show ourselves love. We are harder on ourselves than on anyone else. We go over and over âwhy did I drink too muchâ and the ever popular "if I lost weight I would be so much happierâ. We are not showing ourselves love by overeating and over drinking, we are doing the opposite. To start, give yourself grace and tell yourself yesterday is done, tomorrow isnât here, so letâs deal with the present.
We worry about so many things, things we have no control over. Resilience, happiness and freedom comes from knowing what to care about and what to not let us get bogged down. Let go of things that do not work for you, help you, or encourage you. It is hard! You want to be a good person but be good to yourself first. Send out positivity but give yourself positivity.
We all have bad days, nothing goes right, nasty people out and about, stress levels are over the top and you have no control. This can be true in many ways but your control is to step away, love yourself.
Journal it, put it down on paper, and then let it go.
So each morning give yourself an affirmation. Here are some suggestions:
#1. I am worthy. #2. I am enough. #3. I am beautiful inside and out. #4. Even my âflawsâ have good and helpful aspects. #5. I love and approve of myself. #6. I am delighted with who I am. #7. I fully approve of who I am, even as I better myself. #8. I approve of myself and love myself completely. #9. I am happy in my own skin and in my own circumstances. #10. I am surrounded by love. #11. I am treasured for who I really am. #12. I am worthy of happiness and love. #13. I enjoy my own company as I get in touch with my true self. #14. I am at peace and happy when Iâm alone.
It may sound like Stuart Smiley but go with it!

DH & I took the golf cart to the top of the hill to walk yesterday morning, it was overcast and pleasant. When we got back I weeded until I got too sweaty, made hummingbird nectar, peeled and seeded tomatoes to freeze until I have enough to can some sauce. Then lunch and some couch time. We had a spinach and artichoke quiche from Costco, it was just okay. After dinner I watched the CBS special on Biden/Harris, then a Hallmark Christmas movie. I finished the U of Florida ornament and started on a stocking. After taking a bath I read for a while and pushed to finish the book I was reading.
Itâs mostly cloudy this morning, should be okay for water aerobics.
Jan- WTG steps, PU, stretches, NJJ, blue dot, AF. I only see one post for Saturday, strange that one went missing. Sorry the lady messed up the drawing, hopefully it goes back to the way it was next year. Yay for rain without issues with wind. Hope you find the Fairlife, DH prefers the Atkins and Premier Protein.
Cindy- Glad you and DS were able to give Ainsley a pawdicure. Hope you slept well and feel better today.
Cathy- Yay for getting the fans installed, hope the extension cords are replaced with normal wiring soon.

Hi girls. Quiet day yesterday. The VBS kids sang during church and I played the piano with someone else on the organ! đ Afterwards I pretty much spent the day reading. A friend gave me Kristin Hannahâs The Women. Wow, so good! I guessed some of it, but certainly not the ending! Today I cleaned up and organized the upstairs. Now Iâm ready to read another Amish book. Aspen is doing better, but if she needs a nerve block to be able to walk, I think itâs time. So hard to make that decision. Tomorrow is Y day and we have bell practice in the evening. Wednesday weâre planning on going to see Twisters and then probably go out to eat. We were going to go today, but didnât want to go out in the rain. We sure needed it!
Amy: Happy Birthday to DH! Other than the initial news break about Biden stepping down, I didnât watch. Too much speculation! Cute potato!
Jan: I was very careful about changing too much with our womens group because I didnât want that to happen like ladies day! I have not heard from Murphy.
Cathy: I just canât even imagine having to wonder if and when we might or might not have electricity and water!
Cindy: Iâm glad DS isnât inviting f/g over. If she directly asks him, would he say no? Hope youâre feeling better today!

September 2 Celebrate! Final weigh in: Hi all. Home again. Got all the things out of the car, had a snack and promptly went to take a nap for over an hour. Had crazy dreams last night, then ran errands on the way home and was just tired. I ran through a car wash to get some of the grunge off, then to the nursery where I went a little crazy. Stopped at Costco and that's always another $100. Did get 2 Fairlife, figure DS will be drinking it and I'd be out again by the time he left. Also just got a rotisserie chicken to mess with for dinner as I knew the fridge would be empty. Now showered, in my jammy pants, have the news on but tuned out for the most part. The big air show has started here in town and the planes going over so often make it easy to not hear the TV. Think we'll just do some sort of burrito with the chicken. Will go to WW in the morning and then get chores done around here before kids come. Mostly I'll need to plant the things I brought home from up north! No other big news. Just wanted to check in. Have a good evening all. Jan Amy Love the heart potato. yay for DH liking the other drinks, more for you Today there was a lot at Costco, and the other bottle, Core. Has less protein but it's a little larger bottle. Hope it wasn't too cool at water aerobics and you enjoyed your workout. Smart to save up your tomatoes until you get enough to make sauce, never thought of freezing them. GG I enjoyed The Women. I'll bet everyone loverd the VBS kids singing at the service yesterday. Glad you are getting some rain. Enjoy your date to the movie and dinner. Hope they can make the decision about Aspen before too long. Cindy Glad the GF has been absent for a bit and you can just enjoy your own quiet house. Glad you were able to get the kitty claw taken care of. Hope you're feeling better today. Cathy Do the fans seem to help with the cooling? Does it blow the bugs away? What's on the plan for the week? Waving hi.

Hi All!
Woke up from a bad dream again and didn't feel great. Took me awhile to get in gear and didn't get enough stuff done to make me happy. I'm beginning to think I'm doing withdrawals from Tylenol...don't know if that is a thing but I was taking way too much. I'm back down to 1500 mg a day, better than taking Vicodin.
Amy, I've looked at those quiches at Costco but never have bought one. Glad to have your review. Hope you enjoyed water aerobics. Loved the heart potato! It looked like DH was enjoying his birthday! I haven't tried the cake but it was a favorite for DS's co-workers' birthdays.
Vicki, sounds like you have a wonderful week planned. Enjoy Twister and eating out! Thinking about Aspen, a difficult heart decision. Glad you had rain today. It has been threatening all day but we didn't get any. Nothing like the joy of children singing.
Jan, sounds like a busy day coming home. Glad you had success at Costco. Do you watch any of the air show? You live in an interesting area! Were you able to get your plants planted? What time do the kids land? Any thoughts of staying in Chicago for a bit?
Cathy, hope the long cords are adequate for making the fans work. Will you be meeting with friends this week?
Carole, I feel I post and miss your post. Thinking about you. Are you headed to FLorida soon?
I was going to try and kneel today but didn't. Got other stuff done but my plan for tomorrow is to kneel down on a pillow on the floor. Will make a plan for getting up, lol. Just very happy I don't have to go to PT.
Off to watch cooking shows, than read.
Hugs to all, Cindy

Was OP till evening then...went off. Today is a new day. I did not go outside yesterday to sit under the fans. I thought I might but it was in the high eighties with over 80% humidity and not a nice day to be outside. I might go out later today BUT it was hot this morning early when feeding Bella so...may not. I will give an update on the ability of the fan to blow bugs away...hope it will do so!
One friend is in the hospital this week for her third chemo cycle. She will have three more after this one. I will pick Rosalie up tomorrow and we will go down to Lina's to play cards even though I am sure it will be miserably hot and humid while there.
I will read as soon as I Finish posting to groups online.
