If you need to lose only 10 pounds you either don't need WW or you can join and reach goal much more quickly than the person who needs to lose 50+ pounds. I want to address this because as a petite person with relatively small amounts of weight to lose over the years, I think this is a common misconception. I first joined WW at the age of 19 with 10 pounds to lose in 1971. It was a huge amount for me. I didn't stay on the program for very long and didn't get to goal weight. I rejoined and left again, and gained weight and lost weight over and over again for the next 40 years. I sometimes had 5 or 10 lbs to lose, sometimes 20 or 30. I often felt that people looked at me oddly at WW because from their perspective, I had no reason to be there and didn't have the kinds of problems that they did. The last time I rejoined WW in 2009, I had 35 pounds to lose to get to my personal goal weight and it took me 15 months to do it. I've been more or less maintaining since the end of 2010. I still tend to gain weight and then have to lose it. If I have to lose weight now, my rate of loss is about a pound a month, if I stay closely to my plan. (I count calories now.) I do realize that I'm not the typical WW member, and WW won't sustain itself on people like me. But I like to try to bring some kind of awareness to the issues of people with small amounts of weight to lose. There used to be a thread for petites on the old WW boards, and it continued on here for a few years. People on that board were able to commiserate about weight management issues and how they often felt disparaged and misunderstood by the general WW population.
ETA - WW has always had a required minimum weight loss of 5 pounds to join, for meetings membership. In 1971 when I first joined, I think there were more people joining with smaller amounts of weight to lose than when I joined for the last time in 2009. In 1971, I think that 5 pounds was more significant than it is now. I'm kind of surprised that WW has kept that as the minimum for meetings and Lifetime membership.

cathygeha ,Mayo Clinc Diet is based on exchanges. Their are different plans yo choose from from, menus to follow of you wish or you can plan your own meals using exchanges from the plan you choose. There is an online program and you can purchase the book, Mayo Clinic Diet 3rd edition. live been using it and love it.

I started, lost my weight and made Lifetime on the exchange plan. I loved it for many years. As we know, no plan is perfect and this one wasn't either.
A bread exchange could be any bread, ignoring that a whole grain bread would be a healthier choice than white wonder bread.
A protein exchange could be any protein, chicken breast or a hotdog, again ignoring that the fact that nutritionally there is no comparison.
It worked.. but we've come a long way in the right direction.

I was in the program when it was being researched then dropped out till my mother brought the book over a decade ago. I think about the program sometimes BUT the book has disappeared and I am not sure where it went. Thank you for reminding me!
