Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be!We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

Labor of Love NEW CHALLENGE July 5 through September 2
The word labor implies a specific task or effort, many times painful or arduous. A labor of love is doing something because you really want to, not because of any monetary reward you might get for it even though it involves hard work.
This challenge is all about a labor of love, reminding yourself to love yourself so it becomes your norm.
How often do we do something for someone else because it makes them happy and in turn makes us happy. But as the saying goes “how can you love someone else if you can’t love yourself”.
There are many ways we don’t show ourselves love. We are harder on ourselves than on anyone else. We go over and over “why did I drink too much” and the ever popular "if I lost weight I would be so much happier”. We are not showing ourselves love by overeating and over drinking, we are doing the opposite. To start, give yourself grace and tell yourself yesterday is done, tomorrow isn’t here, so let’s deal with the present.
We worry about so many things, things we have no control over. Resilience, happiness and freedom comes from knowing what to care about and what to not let us get bogged down. Let go of things that do not work for you, help you, or encourage you. It is hard! You want to be a good person but be good to yourself first. Send out positivity but give yourself positivity.
We all have bad days, nothing goes right, nasty people out and about, stress levels are over the top and you have no control. This can be true in many ways but your control is to step away, love yourself.
Journal it, put it down on paper, and then let it go.
So each morning give yourself an affirmation. Here are some suggestions:
#1. I am worthy. #2. I am enough. #3. I am beautiful inside and out. #4. Even my “flaws” have good and helpful aspects. #5. I love and approve of myself. #6. I am delighted with who I am. #7. I fully approve of who I am, even as I better myself. #8. I approve of myself and love myself completely. #9. I am happy in my own skin and in my own circumstances. #10. I am surrounded by love. #11. I am treasured for who I really am. #12. I am worthy of happiness and love. #13. I enjoy my own company as I get in touch with my true self. #14. I am at peace and happy when I’m alone.
It may sound like Stuart Smiley but go with it!

Water aerobics was good yesterday, although water was a bit cold from the rain. When I got back, DH & I took the golf cart to the nature trail to walk yesterday morning, hot and humid, but some breeze. When we got back I got busy getting ready to can the chow chow. It turned out pretty good, a little too much bite of vinegar, but it's supposed to mellow in a few days. I ended up with 4 pint jars and 1 half pint to can, and just a few spoonfuls leftover to sample. I prepped green beans to freeze, but ran out of energy to deal with that, so had some couch time. I made veggie soup for dinner, similar to the 0 point WW recipe, which we had with grilled cheese. We had a thunderstorm with crazy winds around 8:30 last night. When it settled down a little we heard the neighbor calling for Blue, so I checked out our porches to see if he had hunkered down there. I didn't see him, but several pots had blown over on the front porch, along with an outdoor thermometer sensor in pieces on the ground. The big damage was to the garden beds, both green bean trellises got knocked down, corn and pepper plants flattened. DH & I went out to get a closer look this morning. We were able to put the trellises upright again by splinting the broken pieces. The green beans were still solidly in the ground, so hopefully they will be okay. I picked up a couple of tomatoes that fell off, but otherwise they did pretty well. Hoping the corn will stand back up as they dry out, the peppers are already recovering.
I had trouble falling asleep last night, probably worrying about the garden. I stayed up late reading until I finally got drowsy. It's sunny today and we probably need to mow the yard in a bit.
Jan- Sorry you lost your post. Glad all is good at the cabin, safe travels home.
Carole- WTG doing errands, making meatballs and pancakes. LOL over DH hiding the candy from you. How many more days until FL?
Vicki- Glad you had a lovely weekend away, enjoyed your FB pics. Congrats to DD getting a house, GL to them on selling theirs. Yay for Rylee coming overnight on Friday.
Cindy- Sorry about the long day helping your friend. Hope you slept well. Can't wait to hear about the party.
Cathy- WTG being OP, scale steady. Yay for getting water and a shower. Have fun at cards and have a good week.

M-W Word of the Day
aspersion noun | uh-SPER-zhun What It Means To cast aspersion (or aspersions) on someone is to criticize them harshly or unfairly: aspersion is defined as "a false or misleading charge meant to harm someone's reputation, or the act of making such a charge." Aspersion may also refer to a sprinkling with water, especially in religious ceremonies. // Melissa believed that Roger had unjustly cast aspersions on the quality of her research.

Hello friends! It’s hot today! I floated a bit and vacuumed the pool. I have this rash on my face, around my mouth and by my nose. Been fighting it since May. It’s impossible to talk to or get into my dermatologist. (I had a skin check beginning of July so I did see her then) anyway, I now have a rash on 2 fingers on my right hand, 1on my left. It’s almost like a burn. I told them I was going on vacation Thursday and I get to go in tomorrow. Tonight dad and I are going to dinner and then the outdoor concert, Brett Michaels. Amy, 2 days and a wake up! I hope your neighbor found Blue.
Jan, did gf do well on her test? Are they still thinking of moving to FL? Or East coast? DS was supposed to have training in Chicago during the week of the democratic convention, they moved it to Baltimore. Just thinking about your kids wanting to visit the city.
Cindy, like someone said (blonde moment!) everything will get time. Listen to your body and don’t push yourself (too much! )
Hello to all! Have to go pick up Dad!

Hi all!
So about the party....40 people (husband/wives/kids) said yes. 25 were there, 8 being kids and six being my friend, husband, whose honor it was in, daughter, son in law, two grandkids and one of the grandkids' girlfriend was there. It bothers me that people said they would show up and didn't. My friend did a lot of work, made a lot of food and I don't know who provided stuff for the kids "stockings" but I saw in the photos that crisp five dollar bills were in their "stockings". The photos made me sad because her husband was getting "parked" in his wheel chair with no one around him. I feel photo ops were taken and maybe that will bring comfort to them. I am glad I didn't go to the party but am glad I was able to help my friend. Her DH is in hospice care at a facility and I imagine I may have overnight company. Waiting to hear.
DS's friend's baby has been given two months to live. He was a premie and too many organs did not develop. It is breaking our and every one's hearts for so many friends.
My friend is here so I will check in tomorrow.
Hugs to all, Cindy

* I was OP all day and think that the heavier meal in the evening with beans on burger bun and more salt and carbs than usual may have been the culprit. Hoping that this is an up-tick that will be followed by a drop in the near future if I stay OP. I am debating calories vs exchanges vs Core/Simply Filling vs the first points plan...and which is healthiest and will be most successful.
I was busy last night trying to get into the Missouri voting portal to vote in the August elections. The county clerk finally gave up and bounced me up to the MCVR person in the Secretary of State's office and I responded to her after midnight. I sent screenshots and she disappeared so I went upstairs at 1am and slept by 1:30. I think there may be a firewall on all isp's in some countries and Lebanon is one of those countries. No email in my inbox this morning. Will see if there is later today. My daughter will also follow up on this issue when she is back from vacation. I want to make sure I can vote in November and this is sort of a trial run.
There was some excitement in the southern part of Beirut last night but we were fine here. Going to Tripoli this afternoon and planning to go to Beirut (mountains above it) tomorrow...if husbands say it is okay to do so.
