Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be!We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

Labor of Love NEW CHALLENGE July 5 through September 2
The word labor implies a specific task or effort, many times painful or arduous. A labor of love is doing something because you really want to, not because of any monetary reward you might get for it even though it involves hard work.
This challenge is all about a labor of love, reminding yourself to love yourself so it becomes your norm.
How often do we do something for someone else because it makes them happy and in turn makes us happy. But as the saying goes “how can you love someone else if you can’t love yourself”.
There are many ways we don’t show ourselves love. We are harder on ourselves than on anyone else. We go over and over “why did I drink too much” and the ever popular "if I lost weight I would be so much happier”. We are not showing ourselves love by overeating and over drinking, we are doing the opposite. To start, give yourself grace and tell yourself yesterday is done, tomorrow isn’t here, so let’s deal with the present.
We worry about so many things, things we have no control over. Resilience, happiness and freedom comes from knowing what to care about and what to not let us get bogged down. Let go of things that do not work for you, help you, or encourage you. It is hard! You want to be a good person but be good to yourself first. Send out positivity but give yourself positivity.
We all have bad days, nothing goes right, nasty people out and about, stress levels are over the top and you have no control. This can be true in many ways but your control is to step away, love yourself.
Journal it, put it down on paper, and then let it go.
So each morning give yourself an affirmation. Here are some suggestions:
#1. I am worthy. #2. I am enough. #3. I am beautiful inside and out. #4. Even my “flaws” have good and helpful aspects. #5. I love and approve of myself. #6. I am delighted with who I am. #7. I fully approve of who I am, even as I better myself. #8. I approve of myself and love myself completely. #9. I am happy in my own skin and in my own circumstances. #10. I am surrounded by love. #11. I am treasured for who I really am. #12. I am worthy of happiness and love. #13. I enjoy my own company as I get in touch with my true self. #14. I am at peace and happy when I’m alone.
It may sound like Stuart Smiley but go with it!

Good morning all! Had a great day yesterday. Bible study was really good. We always bring pot luck for lunch and always have a big variety. But yesterday, we had TWO cheeseballs and THREE chicken salads! LOL. So not a lot of variety but it was all good! I spent most of the afternoon on the phone trying to get some things cancelled in prep for switching to Medicare. Not successful with everything but I made progress. Today I'm going to call a couple of places trying to get things reduced - cable, phone, etc. Choir rehearsal tonight. BBL Murphy

DH & I walked the nature trail yesterday morning, nice at the beginning, hot by the end. When we got back I looked at the garden, picked green beans and tomatoes and one cucumber for the neighbor. It looks like another will be ready to be picked today and there are a lot of little ones. I'm not sure why these cucumbers took so long to get going, but they've been really good. I wish I could remember what kind they are so I can buy them again. They're skinny and not at all bitter. After lunch I called the Shark people again as the replacement robot they sent has the same "My brush roll is stuck" error message. When they sent the replacement they had me take the dock, battery, brush roll, and side brushes from the old robot, so it seems logical that it's a problem with the brush roll. The guy I talked to was obviously working from a scripted procedure and so now they are sending a whole new robot and I will need to send back all the old stuff. Fingers crossed. The girl that cuts my hair texted me that she had back spasms and rescheduled my haircut to this afternoon, so I used that time to try on pants that I had taken out of the closet when they did the floors. Got rid of a few, moved some back into the closet, kept a few that almost fit. Also did a Me360 scan, pleased with the numbers, especially inches lost. I had some couch time then did a workout video with weights. I made stuffed peppers with green bell peppers from the garden for dinner. They were yummy, although a bit too much oregano in the recipe. After dinner I watched the Olympics and stitched. After bath and reading I had trouble falling asleep, mainly b/c the bee sting on my right elbow was itching a lot. I took a Benadryl, read some more and was finally asleep after 1.
Another sunny day here today. Will be busy with water aerobics, haircut and shopping.
Jan- WTG steps, PU, stretches, going to Y, WW, thrift store, blue dot, AF, laundry, going to meet the neighbors. Sorry you missed pool time at the Y and the owl cross stitch. Which Nora Roberts did you get? Sorry about the hives after eating shrimp. Glad the court thing wasn't a summons for DS. Sorry about getting the munchies and SIL situation. I watched the Walz intro too, feeling positive about the positivity. The quiche was fire-roasted vegetable, I did like it a lot better. I got the Quest chips at Walmart in a bag of 4 little bags, yummy and portion control. I wonder if WW will actually start to quantify macros at some point? Eat more protein is a little too vague.
Vicki- GL to DD now that the house is listed. You've got a busy week as always, glad you liked the chair yoga.
Carole- Hope it was a beautiful sunset.
Murphy- Glad Bible study was good. LOL at the duplicates at the pot luck. GL with your phone calls. Thanks for getting us started.

September 2 Good morning friends. Got up a bit earlier, have journaled, had coffee, I'm charging my FB and figured I'd check in. I'm going to have some HB eggs and fruit here before I go to coffee at Panera's, but I have checked their menu. I'd like to get one of their bagel flats for 4 points to eat while I'm there visiting, but you never know what they will have until you get there. Yesterday felt like an eating day and luckily my extra steps helped balance that out. Will enjoy my next few days here in town, and then will be ready to head back up north for a few days of quiet before my brother joins me. We get along well, I think we are actually closer than my sis and I, maybe not closer but just think a lot more alike It will be a good respite for him, some time to unwind from work, TV, Politics (my dsil is pretty rabid about it all) We will just do our own thing and enjoy. It's garbage day and I'm still learning that we always make too much and waste a lot of food when the fridge gets cleaned for garbage. I seriously want to get better at eating what we have or at least getting it into the freezer for later. When GF was here and made us her spaghetti sauce and meatballs I at least had the presence of mind to freeze the rest and will take it up north with me for a meal. Dh is just not a big LO person and we always just have that amount left that you don't want to throw out but then it ends up being thrown out anyway. Have to decide what is on the menu today. Would like to grill up some chicken breasts, maybe get some fresh corn and make a potato salad. Guess I better get moving. I need to go through the bank on my way to coffee. I'm watching my "fun" money account go down and I'm already thinking about the tax office job and how much I'd want to work to get that slush fund built back up. Have a happy Hump Day all. Jan Murphy Glad yesterday was so worthwhile and fun for you. Hope you can figure out the medicare mess and get some bills lowered. Thanks for getting us started. Have fun at choir, are you preparing for a special program or just weekly singing. Cindy Wow, just wow. I'm not sure I'd ever drive and DH wouldn't even get in a car if things were like that. Hope you could chat with your friend but it wasn't for hours. What did you decide about the camo? GG Sounds like a busy time in your neighborhood! Have fun at Grandma camp when it starts. I'll bet DD house sells fast and then all the moving and crazy will just add to your full plate. I will work to get to the Y earlier, probably go Friday as today in coffee and tomorrow is knitting. Mornings are the best there before they bring in the daycare kids and start lessons. I have on my to-do list, find one exercise class to go to . The senior center also does Silver Sneakers and different yoga/stretching. My goal is to start something @ September when I will be home more consistently from the cabin. Will look at the Y schedule too. They seem to change up the classes and times in the fall. Carole When do you come home? Still want to move to Florida? We are kind of trying to discourage DS. If he gets into school there or if it's for 3-4 years but it just seems like the weather and all are getting crazier. Who knows. Hope all the pets are fine when you get home. Amy Have fun at water aerobics this morning. How are the bee stings this morning? Still itchy? Thought about you when I was out weeding yesterday, I'm always just reaching in, we have a lot of vine weeds that cover everything and then a lot of self spread morning glory that joins in. I always wonder what I may be grabbing when I pull up a big handful. Waving hi. Will try to be back later.

Hi all, back from coffee and a few errands. My friend Cathy brought me a knitting book pattern someone thought I may like so going to look through that while I now have some couch time. DH is making a marinade for some chicken thighs that we'll grill for dinner along with the fresh corn I bought. Looks like all the big political doings are in Wisconsin for the time being. Don't think they are coming anywhere near anywhere I need to be Can't say I'm getting much done today but it's nice out and at least we aren't having to run the air this week much. Hope you all having a good day. Jan Amy You posted right before me. Sorry the sting was still itching, did the pool water water help at all? My book is called Come Sundown. It's a bit different from other NR I've read, kind of dark. Not for Vicki . Hope you get the new Shark and it works well. I did Me360 again at the beginning of the month and mine was not so happy this time, ha ha. Not really up but not changed much either. But I do like to get the info. Did you plant the cucumbers from seeds? Were you able to get your haircut today? Later friends

Hi All!
Conversation went on for quite awhile with my friend. She kept sending me photos and asking if they would be good in the memorial service. She had twenty driver license photos from over the year!! Umm, no. maybe wedding photo, vacation photo, photo with daughter, granddaughter, one with grandson. I think it landed on deaf ears. I did try to caution her that she needs to take a step back and grieve. She with her daughter are already going through his stuff and donating them. I know everyone grieves differently but you can move too fast in my humble opinion. She seemed calmer when we stopped chatting and she said she could sleep. Her home is on the same property as her daughter's so I know she won't be alone.
When I stopped at Costco yesterday I walked through the clothing section....there is no longer a book section, sadface....and found a pair of camo pants that I could use for gardening when that day comes again. My friend was talking about how she had bought camo capris and I am glad I bought them. DS has black camo pants so he is covered. I hope people will show up but who knows. I thought about asking what I could bring but decided to wait until we are closer to the date. I'm sure you can all figure out what I'm saying in my mind what this is going to be.
Cathy, I laughed and loved the idea of an animal print as prey. I told my DS and his boss/friend and they both burst out laughing and thought it was a great idea. I hope you had a wonderful day with friends.
Amy, I hope your stings are calming down and are more manageable. Do you have red wasps?...they are really nasty and live in the ground! How wonderful that you could use your own peppers to make stuff peppers. I use my Mom's recipe which is basically the porcupine meatball recipe. I hope your Shark robot comes soon and that it works properly. Were you able to get your hair cut? I've gone two years without cutting except my own trimming job, yikes. Didn't know the word of the day...maybe cuz I never go into a hair salon.
Jan, totally understand about the leftovers. DS is good about eating them but stuff tends to get pushed back in the fridge. I keep trying to convince him that 1/2 pound of pasta is more than enough and a pound is way too much. I do try to freeze as we go along. Bought a Rana beef and short rib lasagna at Costco and need to cut it into portions for lazy meal times. Regarding shrimp, I would take the chance on the frozen or on another place than where you bought it. I have an allergy to lobster, don't eat shrimp, but can eat crab. When I took the whole allergy testing, nothing showed up for it?? So thinking it might be something the store is adding. The traffic and craziness is insane. The construction is also insane. Half of a bridge is knocked down, the rest is suppose to come down tonight.
GG, I hope everything is going well for DD and DSIL and of course Rylee. I hope there is a quick sale. Will they move into the new house and just maybe do a bit of staging while their house sells? Glad you got to the right restaurant and had a wonderful time. I did think about not bothering with camo but in consideration of my friend, and she doesn't have many, I just felt I needed to do something. What grade is Jackson going into?
Murphy, it is always good to see your post in the morning. Prayers for your BIL's Mom. I think people eventually come to peace to move on but it is so hard on those left behind. Hugs. I love chicken salad and would have loved having three to try, lol. Thanks for getting us going. Have you made plans for CR or working with your friends from church? How's Scout? Hope you were able to get some success dealing with Medicare.
Carole, I hope you are having the most wonderful time with family. Any thoughts that you might move to Florida? I think the new gym sounds wonderful, especially being closer to home.
Hi Liz!
Didn't feel great today but have no reason for it. Feel fine tonight. Need to work on my eating and making sure I "eat" my pills. Had a scheduled dental appointment today but hadn't heard from them so called before going. Nope, wasn't on the schedule though I have a text showing I was. Was just as glad and rescheduled.
Going to get an early bed time....play some Sudoku and then read.
Hugs to all, Cindy
