Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be!We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

Labor of Love NEW CHALLENGE July 5 through September 2
The word labor implies a specific task or effort, many times painful or arduous. A labor of love is doing something because you really want to, not because of any monetary reward you might get for it even though it involves hard work.
This challenge is all about a labor of love, reminding yourself to love yourself so it becomes your norm.
How often do we do something for someone else because it makes them happy and in turn makes us happy. But as the saying goes âhow can you love someone else if you canât love yourselfâ.
There are many ways we donât show ourselves love. We are harder on ourselves than on anyone else. We go over and over âwhy did I drink too muchâ and the ever popular "if I lost weight I would be so much happierâ. We are not showing ourselves love by overeating and over drinking, we are doing the opposite. To start, give yourself grace and tell yourself yesterday is done, tomorrow isnât here, so letâs deal with the present.
We worry about so many things, things we have no control over. Resilience, happiness and freedom comes from knowing what to care about and what to not let us get bogged down. Let go of things that do not work for you, help you, or encourage you. It is hard! You want to be a good person but be good to yourself first. Send out positivity but give yourself positivity.
We all have bad days, nothing goes right, nasty people out and about, stress levels are over the top and you have no control. This can be true in many ways but your control is to step away, love yourself.
Journal it, put it down on paper, and then let it go.
So each morning give yourself an affirmation. Here are some suggestions:
#1. I am worthy. #2. I am enough. #3. I am beautiful inside and out. #4. Even my âflawsâ have good and helpful aspects. #5. I love and approve of myself. #6. I am delighted with who I am. #7. I fully approve of who I am, even as I better myself. #8. I approve of myself and love myself completely. #9. I am happy in my own skin and in my own circumstances. #10. I am surrounded by love. #11. I am treasured for who I really am. #12. I am worthy of happiness and love. #13. I enjoy my own company as I get in touch with my true self. #14. I am at peace and happy when Iâm alone.
It may sound like Stuart Smiley but go with it!

Great success!
Good morning all! I'm up and have had my shower and have the sheets in the wash. Not much planned for today. I was going to go to Walmart to pick up a few things but I think I'll wait till next week. I'm going to fix some breakfast sandwiches for the freezer today. English muffin, egg, fat free cheese and Canadian bacon. Makes it easy to grab one on the go! Then the freezer will be pretty well stocked. I got the chest freezer organized yesterday although that is a on-going battle. I would love to have an upright freezer but this chest freezer was so much cheaper.
Cindy- Happy belated birthday! Love you!
Anyway - hope everyone is having a good start to your day! Murphy

September 2 Good morning all. Eating was still out of control and it's a good thing I'm heading up north to have a little self imposed "monastery" time. I'm bringing all the veggies from here, bought a small watermelon, the ingredients to make turkey chili. Focus on fruit, veggies and protein for 6 days. Need to get some control back. I think some of it has been from boredom since the kids left. By evening all the Olympic coverage is a repeat of what we saw in the day or heard results of from the news. If DH puts on the news channel I just check out. At least my knitting and reading helps but being at the cabin will just be a nice break from the screens and noise. I'm going to try to get to the WW meeting up there on Tuesday, see how that feels after driving Monday to get my brother from the bus in Green Bay. Thinking sis might come out and join me late this afternoon when I get up there. It's been chilly in the mornings, more fall feeling and only a high in the low 70's the past few days. Looks like it will warm up again this week with 80's so good weather for some river time. Not sure when I will be able to check in but have some gigs on my Hot Spot that I can use. Just depends on when and if it can pick up a signal. Have a great weekend all, I'm hoping my on switch will go on today too. Jan Murphy I've been having breakfast sandwiches too, been buying the lite buns at Walmart, 2 pts each and like the softness of the sandwich in the morning. Not sure if they would freeze as well as Eng muffin tho. Do you use regular muffins? I don't like the texture of the low point ones Any word about the pup? GG Walking with the music on does make the time go quickly and is more enjoyable. In our treadmill area of the Y they play music but you get what you get and it's not always something I like. I usually spend part of the time walking the track around and then some on the treadmill because it forces me to go faster Fingers crossed for DD and the house sale. Glad your switch went back on, I'm looking, pretty sure being up north with not so many temptations will help a lot. Hoping when the cousins left last week they took most of the "junk" home with them. Carole I could not do the Florida heat full time. Have you ever stayed or looked more north by North or South Carolina? Sorry about time to go back to school already. When will your friend have the new gym open? ugh about burning your fingers and toes. Cathy Hope you feel better today. Sounds like you went swimming in the Seine Hi Amy You are probably out walking with DH and DS. Enjoy your day. Waving hi

As promised, here I am. I actually got a phone call from DD! They are on their way to go shopping. For the last few weeks, weâve only been texting, sheâs so busy. It was so good to be able to actually talk to her, and I did some in house walking. You all are going to be so jealous! DH went to a steam show festival, and I have the house to myself! đ„° Plus when he comes home, heâs cooking dinner on the grill! The only thing I have planned so far is to practice the piano. I thought about going to yard sales, but donât really want to leave the house. Time will tell!
Jan: Have a wonderful time at the cabin! How long will your brother be with you? Itâs crazy how that switch works! Honestly, I think thatâs what Amyâs medicine does, turns on the switch and off the food noise. I had to laugh when you mentioned the dark NR book wouldnât be for me. I was reading an Amish book where they were praying out evil spirits from their bishop who was into voodoo healing or some such thing!
Amy: Is everything youâre getting from your garden on the old weed hill? DH is totally disgusted with ours. He planted late because of our trip, and then it was so dry. He did pick 4 ears of corn, but they werenât really developed.
Carole: I know I couldnât stand the heat down there! Or the storms! Or the people! My aunt used to live near Jupiter, and they loved it. My cousin has a place down there in The Villages, and my silâs boyfriend has a house near Fort Myers. Hope you donât have too many delays. Boo about school starting Monday!
Cindy: I hope you had a quiet birthday! You had asked about Jack. He turns 14 on the 29th and is going into 9th grade. So hard to believe! Addi is going into 5th, and Rylee into 1st. She will be in the same school, just a different bus. I went shopping yesterday and saw a cheetah print top and thought of you and Cathy! đ Iâm glad you found something you can use!
Cathy: Sorry you didnât go to the beach. Also for tummy issues! Do you watch much tv over there? Or do you watch the Olympics on line?
Murphy: Iâm so sorry to hear about Scout!! Was that what triggered your last episode? What did your friends say about not going to CR? You told me they were going to drag you there! What is it about it that bothers you?

DH & I went to Logan Farm Park and the farmers market yesterday morning. I bought a tomato plant and some peaches. It was hot for walking, except for the part that's in the woods. Afterwards we went to Ingles to grocery shop, then home. I had lunch and some couch time then DH decided he wanted to finally hang the ceiling fan in the guest room b/c Cory says it's hot for sleeping. That went as well as these projects ever do. Only 2 more fans to hang from the ones we bought 3 years ago. I then made some cookies for dessert. We had fried chicken from the Publix deli, mashed potatoes, green beans, and cucumber, tomato and onion salad. After dinner we played Winky Dink and watched the Olympics. I went to bed around my usual time, but had trouble falling asleep.
We got out fairly early to walk this morning. It's a bit cooler and was pleasant for walking, lots of people and their dogs on the nature trail. When we got back Cory and I picked green beans, tomatoes, and a couple of green peppers and cucumbers. We had bacon, scrambled eggs with veggies and cheese, fresh fruit, and blueberry muffins. Cory has gone home. I've got green beans and tomatoes to deal with, will blanche and freeze the green beans as I made a big pot of them for dinner last night.
Jan- WTG steps, PU, stretches, tracking. Sorry about the off the rails days, some cabin time will fix that. Glad you are sleeping better. I've had 2 not so OP days, so need to get BOT. Wordle does have stats, you should have a bar graph icon in the upper right hand corner of your puzzle. Enjoy visiting with your brother, and maybe sis.
Vicki- Sounds like a good idea to skip the Y before the funeral. WTG for your OP days.
Carole- Sorry your flight was delayed. The FL heat is no joke in the summer. GL with back to work on Monday. Annie has seemed friendlier lately.
Cathy- Hope you are feeling less tired, achy, and your GI symptoms have resolved.
Murphy- Thanks for getting us started. WTG washing bedding and organizing chest freezer.

Vicki- Yay for being able to talk with your daughter and having the house to yourself! We drove through The Villages once, it's a city unto itself. Sorry your garden has been a disappointment. I have raised beds on the west side of the house for the green beans, tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, strawberries, and collards. In the tiers on what used to be weed hill I've got corn, squash, and more green beans. It took forever for the cucumber plants to start growing, but they look good now. The tomatoes are looking kind of puny in the heat.

Been a fairly quiet day. I did get out of the house and picked up bread and a rotisserie chicken at Walmart. After I took the meat off the chicken, I threw it in the crock pot and made chicken broth. I've got it cooling now and will have to wedge in the freezer somehow! LOL. Heard back from Tyrine. She's been down with a bad episode of vertigo. We agreed that now is just not the time for me to get another dog. I'll wait at least a couple of months.
Vicki - I chose not to go to CR Thursday night because I was just mentally fried. Worried about finances and knew I wouldn't give it my all. I had seen my friend Pam at the senior luncheon. She's the one who said she would go with me and drag me if she had to. But she must have forgotten because she never said a word about it. Should be able to go this week.
Carole - safe travels home!
Jan - I like Thomas light English muffins and I also like Lewis light ones. Each of those are 2 points each. I made those today and got them in the freezer.
Amy - what all have you canned or frozen from the garden? I just don't have room in my freezer for anything else. I did dehydrate some frozen kale yesterday. I like to have it on hand to put in soup during the winter.
Headed to church in the morning. We are back to having Sunday night services too so I'll go to that. Everyone have a good night! Murphy

Hi All!
Thank you all for the birthday wishes. I had another bout of dizzy spells. After a call to my cardiologist's office, stopped taking the BP med....I was down to 5 mg. I wasn't doing great today but hopefully tomorrow will be functioning!

Good morning. Seems that whatever GI issue/virus came to visit has decided it is ready to move on. Hooray! We did talk to our daughter yesterday and she is busy with the garden and preservation of produce while also gearing up for the new school year. Students are moving into dorms on campus so she is avoiding being on campus as much as possible. We hope to talk to our granddaughters about their first few days of school later this evening. Probably after the electricity cut ends.
MURPHY: I just climbed out of the google rabbit hole of ways to organize chest freezers. What a wild trip that was. We don't have an additional freezer and now wonder what type of storage devices I would get if we did. some used trays or boxes or plywood to divide the space and then recommended having boxes to stack to make it easier to lift out one item to get to another book underneath. Good luck with your freezer! How does CR compare to other 12 step programs...just looked it up and wondered if it is a more or less comfortable environment to meet in.
JAN: Your plan for the away time and healthy eating sounds wise. Also, track while there, maybe? No Seine to swim in here BUT the beaches are often polluted and with the rip-currents...not going swimming this summer at the beach!
CAROL: From what I know, being on time for flights is becoming more and more rare. I hope you were not delayed too long!
WWVicki: Enjoy the quiet time to do whatever tickles your fancy. I haven't watched a television for years and have no idea if the old one we have works or can tune in any programs at all. We discontinued the cable/satellite service and never renewed it. I spend my time reading, check the news on the computer, and that is that.
AMY: Are you tracking your food intake and if so, how are you doing it? And, if you are following an eating plan, what is it? I want to be where YOU are on the scale instead of where I am! I am tracking again but can't seem to go back to earlier WW plans though I wonder if they might be the better option than the newer ones.
CINDY: I hope the dizziness ceases and desists. Do you use any type of "stabilizer" when you are up and about?
Here's hoping we all have a Super Sunday and the week ahead provides us with positive goal achievement.
