Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be!We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

Labor of Love NEW CHALLENGE July 5 through September 2
The word labor implies a specific task or effort, many times painful or arduous. A labor of love is doing something because you really want to, not because of any monetary reward you might get for it even though it involves hard work.
This challenge is all about a labor of love, reminding yourself to love yourself so it becomes your norm.
How often do we do something for someone else because it makes them happy and in turn makes us happy. But as the saying goes “how can you love someone else if you can’t love yourself”.
There are many ways we don’t show ourselves love. We are harder on ourselves than on anyone else. We go over and over “why did I drink too much” and the ever popular "if I lost weight I would be so much happier”. We are not showing ourselves love by overeating and over drinking, we are doing the opposite. To start, give yourself grace and tell yourself yesterday is done, tomorrow isn’t here, so let’s deal with the present.
We worry about so many things, things we have no control over. Resilience, happiness and freedom comes from knowing what to care about and what to not let us get bogged down. Let go of things that do not work for you, help you, or encourage you. It is hard! You want to be a good person but be good to yourself first. Send out positivity but give yourself positivity.
We all have bad days, nothing goes right, nasty people out and about, stress levels are over the top and you have no control. This can be true in many ways but your control is to step away, love yourself.
Journal it, put it down on paper, and then let it go.
So each morning give yourself an affirmation. Here are some suggestions:
#1. I am worthy. #2. I am enough. #3. I am beautiful inside and out. #4. Even my “flaws” have good and helpful aspects. #5. I love and approve of myself. #6. I am delighted with who I am. #7. I fully approve of who I am, even as I better myself. #8. I approve of myself and love myself completely. #9. I am happy in my own skin and in my own circumstances. #10. I am surrounded by love. #11. I am treasured for who I really am. #12. I am worthy of happiness and love. #13. I enjoy my own company as I get in touch with my true self. #14. I am at peace and happy when I’m alone.
It may sound like Stuart Smiley but go with it!

Good morning all! Had a good day yesterday. Church in the morning and then just puttered around the house. Then back to church yesterday evening. On Sunday nights, we split men and women. We have a speaker or lesson for a little while and then we split into "round table discussion" where there are 5 to 8 at a table and we talk and share. It's really great and a wonderful way to get to know a few women better. I think we kind of stay with the same group of women for a few months. Then I slept better thank heaven! I did wake up about 2:00 and was afraid I wouldn't get back to sleep but I did so Yay! I'm up and cleaned up and have had my devotions. I have a pot of beans and ham hock in the crockpot. I had been kind of craving them. I'll split them with Carolyn and Bud because it would just be too much for me to even freeze. She's making cornbread. But honestly, I like mine better so I may cook a small pan just for me! LOL. Going to do some housecleaning today and do my nails. Looking forward to a nice day! Hope your day is wonderful as well! DH was watching the women's basketball when I was ready to go walk so I went outside to plant my new tomato plant, pick green beans, tomatoes, and cucumbers and water the garden plants. Then DH & I took the golf cart to the top of the hill to walk yesterday morning. It was nice when we caught the breeze, but the sun was hot. When we got back I watched the Olympics and had a mostly lazy afternoon. I made zucchini boats for dinner and did Turbo Jam while they were in the oven. After dinner I watched a Hallmark movie and worked on a U of Florida ornament. It was a pattern "borrowed" from Pinterest and I had to do some revisions as I was stitching.
It's sunny and cooler this morning in the 60's! It may be cool for water aerobics.
Jan- WTG steps, PU, stretches, blue dot, AF. Enjoy the bird show and alone time before DB comes. Yay for cool weather and the cousins leaving the place in good shape. I've not had a lot of hummers this year, I don't think I have seen more than 3 at a time, but one hangs out in the crepe myrtle and chases others away. They empty the feeder over 1-2 days.
Vicki- It sounds promising with DD's house.
Murphy- Thanks for getting us started. Glad you had a good Sunday and slept better. Enjoy your beans and cornbread.

September 2 Good morning all. Having a little library internet time before I head to Green Bay to get my brother. Sure there will be a story but he called me last night to say he wouldn't have his phone so couldn't contact me if late or ? Enjoyed my day and felt good about meeting all the goals I had made for myself. See how I do today with the longer day in the car, it's about 1 1/2 hours to get there, then back with some store stops on the way. Sure dinner will be a serve yourself, what you can find. It's a beautiful day out and I will just enjoy it. Finished my "easy read" last night in bed and had made progress on my NR book. I will look at the library book sale shelf while I'm here and see if I find any other fun reads. I also will check in with the staff to ask about the craft fair in November and sign up if I can. If I get committed to the fair it will help motivate me to get some inventory together to sell. No other plans for the day, DB may want to cast in a line after we get home to the cabin. He can just take my car back to the lake where you can fish from the shore. Hope you all have a great Monday and week. Jan Murphy Sounds like a good evening at church. Yay for making enough dinner to share, I was wondering how Carolyn and Bud were doing. Yay for falling back to sleep. With all the water I've been trying to drink, I'm up a couple times at night, sometimes easy to go back to sleep and sometimes not. Amy Is the U of Fla the Gators? This weekend DS and friends were down in Florida, I think by Cocoa Beach? He and Brendan took the first day to drive all the way over to the football stadium at the U to give it some Bad Mojo for their first game there against Miami in a couple weeks. They are so Kookie about football. I said I don't even want to know what took place. Haven't heard about the rest of the trip. Hope you warmed up at aerobics this morning, brr. Wonder why you have so few hummers? I get lots at the cabin but none at home. DD Fingers crossed about DD house. Would be nice to get it done, move and start the school year fresh. Sure it will take some time tho. What are your plans for the week? Waving hi

The offer was a good one! DD needs to talk to the realtor personally before accepting it. The other people don’t need to sell their house first, so that’s a good thing! The closing would be 9-30 so it would give them 2 weeks to get out of their current house after the closing for the new house. So far so good! Last night I went to a local park and heard our American Legion Band play. Besides patriotic music, they played several different genres. It was good! I went with my friend and she stopped for ice cream afterwards. I got lemon sorbet in a cup. It was so good! And I still have weeklies left! Woohoo! Because it’s cooler and not so humid, I went for a walk on the road here today. I’m trying to mix things up a bit, and today will strive for getting all my hourly steps in. Jan, this should be a fairly normal week. Tonight I have a meeting at church on our women’s retreat coming up. Tuesday and Thursday are Y days, and Wednesday is line dance. I’m hoping Friday to be able to take Jack out to lunch, just him and me. We are going up to his place on Sunday for his birthday, but I want alone time with him.
Murphy: Your Sunday night service sounds great! That’s sort of what our retreat/workshop will be this year. We’ll have a topic plus verses, and lots of discussion! We will have 3 sections, How God loves us, How we should love God, and How we should love others.
Amy: Brr for water aerobics in a cool pool! DH planted cucumber plants in pots and has a string for them to climb up. We’ll see what happens!
Jan: I know you’ll enjoy your time with DB. If he catches fish will you cook it up? DSIL likes to travel all over to watch hockey and wrestling. Those days will be over once they get the new house!
Carole: Yikes, it’s Monday! That means you had to work today! Hope it went well!
Cindy: Hope you’re well!

Hi all!
Gotta get my act together. I woke up at 3 AM feeling very sick, very achy. I was having some problems breathing because I was so congested. I don't understand it but spent most of the day in bed, dozing off and on. Haven't eaten anything today. Couldn't keep ginger ale down. TMI! Heading to bed and hope I can catch up with all of you tomorrow.
Hugs to all, Cindy
