Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be!We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

Labor of Love NEW CHALLENGE July 5 through September 2
The word labor implies a specific task or effort, many times painful or arduous. A labor of love is doing something because you really want to, not because of any monetary reward you might get for it even though it involves hard work.
This challenge is all about a labor of love, reminding yourself to love yourself so it becomes your norm.
How often do we do something for someone else because it makes them happy and in turn makes us happy. But as the saying goes “how can you love someone else if you can’t love yourself”.
There are many ways we don’t show ourselves love. We are harder on ourselves than on anyone else. We go over and over “why did I drink too much” and the ever popular "if I lost weight I would be so much happier”. We are not showing ourselves love by overeating and over drinking, we are doing the opposite. To start, give yourself grace and tell yourself yesterday is done, tomorrow isn’t here, so let’s deal with the present.
We worry about so many things, things we have no control over. Resilience, happiness and freedom comes from knowing what to care about and what to not let us get bogged down. Let go of things that do not work for you, help you, or encourage you. It is hard! You want to be a good person but be good to yourself first. Send out positivity but give yourself positivity.
We all have bad days, nothing goes right, nasty people out and about, stress levels are over the top and you have no control. This can be true in many ways but your control is to step away, love yourself.
Journal it, put it down on paper, and then let it go.
So each morning give yourself an affirmation. Here are some suggestions:
#1. I am worthy. #2. I am enough. #3. I am beautiful inside and out. #4. Even my “flaws” have good and helpful aspects. #5. I love and approve of myself. #6. I am delighted with who I am. #7. I fully approve of who I am, even as I better myself. #8. I approve of myself and love myself completely. #9. I am happy in my own skin and in my own circumstances. #10. I am surrounded by love. #11. I am treasured for who I really am. #12. I am worthy of happiness and love. #13. I enjoy my own company as I get in touch with my true self. #14. I am at peace and happy when I’m alone.
It may sound like Stuart Smiley but go with it!

Good morning all! Had a very quiet day yesterday which was nice since Sunday was so busy. I did make the beans and shared them with Carolyn and Bud. Today I need to take a box of clothes to donation and then tonight I will go out to eat with the group of ladies from church. BIL's mother passed away in the night Sunday night and they will be making arrangements today I think. Everything will kind of revolve around that schedule. At 98, she was so ready to go. Even knowing that, it doesn't take away from our human sense of sorrow though.
Cindy - wanted to say I hope you are feeling better today! Take care of yourself!

The water was chilly when first getting in the pool but felt good after we got moving. When I got back DH & I took the golf cart to the nature trail to walk, it was still fairly cool and there was a nice breeze. When we got back I weeded in the back and spread mulch where the stepping stones are. It gets muddy there when wet, I've had the mulch for months, so it's good to have that chore done. I finally spied some squash growing amongst the corn, there have been a lot of male flowers, but no fruit. They are either acorn or delicata, I can't find the plastic stake anymore. When I was done outside I soaked in the tub and read, had lunch and some couch time. DH grilled pork chops which we had with pasta, green beans, and cucumber salad. The neighbor that I've been giving cucumbers to now has some of his own, so I'm going to have to find someone else to unload them on. I don't think I want to make pickles, I still have some from last year. I went to bed at a good time and was able to fall asleep easily.
It's another sunny day, currently in the low 70's.
Jan- WTG steps, PU, stretched, blue dot, AF, meeting the goals you set for yourself. Yay for library time and the craft fair in November. UF are the gators, the pattern I'm stitching is the Gator logo. I'm iffy about the teeth, I'll share a picture with you. It's surprising how many people want UF, FSU, U of Miami, and Dolphins stuff at the Fall Fest.
Vicki- Yay for a good offer on DD's house and time to pack up and move before closing. Glad you enjoyed the American Legion band and it's less humid. Hope lunch with Jack works out on Friday.
Cathy- WTG doing errands. Glad you were able to talk to your daughter.
Cindy- Hope you are feeling better. Resting when sick IS having your act together.
Murphy- Thanks for getting us started. So sorry about BIL's mother passing. Yay for a quiet Monday. Enjoy dinner out with the ladies.

M-W Word of the Day
iota noun | eye-OH-tuh What It Means An iota is an infinitesimal amount of something. The word iota is used synonymously with the etymologically related jot, and by its oldest definition refers to the 9th letter of the Greek alphabet. // There's not an iota of doubt regarding the defendant's guilt.

Been to drop off the donation of clothes and got the car washed. I have a couple of zucchinis and 2 yellow squash that I really need to roast before they go bad. Amy - I wish I was close enough to take some of your cucumbers!!
Jan - hope you are having a wonderful time at the cabin!
Carole - are you getting back into the "home" routine? What are you and DH thinking now about the move to Florida?
GG - that is so exciting about DD's house!! Hope everything works out for you to spend some one on one time with Jack.
Cathy - do you have many book reviews going on right now?
Think I'll have some beans for lunch! Then put the rest in the freezer! Everyone have a great day! Murphy

Hi girls. Just a fly by, haven't been able to log stats and all so just wanted to check in. Cabin scale was generous this morning and back in the 192 range. see where it ends up by next Tuesday WI. DB is having fun, he caught a bunch of fish last evening and just went out again to see what was happening at the lake. Sis just arrived and we will BBQ a bit later. Tomorrow we head up to the fair to snoop around. Weather has been beautiful, had a few thunder rumbles this afternoon but not even gray clouds. Maybe get a bit of something overnight. Hope you are all have a great day. Talk when I can Jan

Hi All!
Thank you all for the feel better wishes. I am feeling better today, have a bit of a way to go. Now DS has whatever I had/have. My neighbor's Mom texted me to say she was sick and wouldn't be around. So I guess something is going around.
Murphy, thanks for getting us going. It is really nice of you to share the meal with Carolyn and Bud. How is Bud doing? Where did you and the ladies from church go to dinner? My condolences on the passing of your BIL's mother. It is always difficult. Hugs.
Amy, maybe you could give your DS some cucumbers and he can bring them to work, just leaving a bag in the break room assuming there is one. One of the photo of the day...yup play dish drain jenga. You are making steady progress towards your weigh goal. Glad you were able to sleep easily. We hit 109 degrees today and it is suppose to be the same for the next few days.
Jan, enjoy your time with your sis and brother. Will your brother go with you and sister to the fair?
Carole, hope you have adjusted to being back home. How is work going?
Vicki, congrats to DD and DSIl on a quick sale of the house. Woot! Are you helping them pack? I hope you get to have your luncheon with Jack.
Cathy, enjoy your time with your friends.
Hi Liz!
Getting behind on stuff but so be it. It will still be there.
Off to bed!
Hugs, Cindy

Start weight July 5: 167.6 July 12: 171.6 July 19: 171 July 26:172 August 2: 171.2 August 9: 170.8 August 16: August 23: August 30: Yay we have done great! September 2 Starting weight: 167.6 and today's weight <168.8>
OP days and tracking on apps are adding up and hopefully will show a drop on the scale gradually. Today I am heading off in the afternoon with Rosalie. We will head out, check a couple of outlets, walk in the old souk of Batroun, and probably stop for iced coffee and play cards at a coffee shop before heading home. I have a book to finish skimming and write a review for and then...another book to read. One day I will catch up.
I have a rice variety mix cooked to make grain bowls with and vegetables to add with a bean and probably other things so lunch requires no cooking today.
My daughter submitted the form to her state representative asking them to see if they can facilitate expediting the visa application for Mounah. We are not scheduled to even SUBMIT for review till October and she wants him to have a viable visa in case we do need to leave at some point in the future. Will see if that achieves anything or not.
I tend to read an average of a book every day or at least that is what the total indicates at the end of each year...even when some books take longer the cookbooks and craft books are quicker so add up, too. I post reviews on Instagram and Tumblr as well as vendors sites and goodread. I am still behind but hope to, someday, catch up and be ahead. Right now the book I am reading is not my favorite so will probably scan and write the review then move on. The genres, authors, topics...varied and sometimes I hit duds but most provide something new.
Books recently read: * Bitter and Sweet by Rhonda McKnight: Christian based book that I almost gave up on about two sisters called back to town by their grandmother when the grandfather had a stroke...the women/sisters have major issues to overcome. One is raising a child after losing her husband and living in a car and the other is going through a nasty divorce. The book is written by a black woman and the characters are all black * The Last Victim by Robert Bryndza: Cold Case solving taken on by an ex-Detective now PI working with a young man she took on while she was teaching at a university. Murder mystery. * The Best of All by Karla Sorenson: two people are godparents and gaurdians for their BFF's child and the BFF's die - they have had a tense relationship but mostly because he has always had a crush on her and she was married when he met her...plus other things in his past * Echoes of Memory by Sara Driscoll: This was an interesting mystery with a murder seen by a woman with TBI. Quinn had been assaulted and her head hit HARD so she can remember the past but can't remember from the assault forward and only retains memories for about an hour. She compensates by writing everything down. When she calls the police and has to refer to her notes about the murder...they don't believe her but then...another detective does. This was interesting to me because I worked in neurosurgical intensive care and later in a SNF for mentally alert neurologically compromised young adults. * Stolen by the Alien Mercenary by Robin O'Connor: Kidnapped human female sold to an alien then saved by another alien who knows she is his mate. Romance and probably steamy...hope to finish it tonight and review it.
If interested in reviews:
