Welcome to Alcohol Free is What We Want To Be!We are glad you are here with us! If you have been struggling with your weight and have found this board you undoubtedly have your own unique, complicated relationship with alcohol and food. Laying out the problem honestly can give you the extra push you need to succeed in getting it under control. A few questions for you to think about...do you wake up at 3 AM wondering what did you do? Do you sometimes have no recall of the evening before or do you try to recover your memory of the evening before you even get out of bed? Is your spouse angry with you...or do you simply think that A is taking over too much of your life, affecting your weight loss? These are hard questions but know that you will find understanding, love, encouragement and support on this thread. We are each in a different stage of this journey but you will find others have shared your experiences. There is no judgment, just an acknowledgement that we have been there, done that. This board of great people will support you in your journey.
Some of us have been here for several years, others are new, but all are welcome and if you have visited before but didn't stay, there is still and always a place for you. Don't get overwhelmed, take your time, if something strikes you, respond. We are great at giving advice, whether you want it or not....you will get tough love, if necessary, but you will also find help. We practice positive self-talk and support, we encourage and gently hold each other accountable. We each have stories to tell, share and suggestions to help. We post different challenges during the year. Please join us if you think this is the group for you. You will be glad you did.

Labor of Love NEW CHALLENGE July 5 through September 2
The word labor implies a specific task or effort, many times painful or arduous. A labor of love is doing something because you really want to, not because of any monetary reward you might get for it even though it involves hard work.
This challenge is all about a labor of love, reminding yourself to love yourself so it becomes your norm.
How often do we do something for someone else because it makes them happy and in turn makes us happy. But as the saying goes “how can you love someone else if you can’t love yourself”.
There are many ways we don’t show ourselves love. We are harder on ourselves than on anyone else. We go over and over “why did I drink too much” and the ever popular "if I lost weight I would be so much happier”. We are not showing ourselves love by overeating and over drinking, we are doing the opposite. To start, give yourself grace and tell yourself yesterday is done, tomorrow isn’t here, so let’s deal with the present.
We worry about so many things, things we have no control over. Resilience, happiness and freedom comes from knowing what to care about and what to not let us get bogged down. Let go of things that do not work for you, help you, or encourage you. It is hard! You want to be a good person but be good to yourself first. Send out positivity but give yourself positivity.
We all have bad days, nothing goes right, nasty people out and about, stress levels are over the top and you have no control. This can be true in many ways but your control is to step away, love yourself.
Journal it, put it down on paper, and then let it go.
So each morning give yourself an affirmation. Here are some suggestions:
#1. I am worthy. #2. I am enough. #3. I am beautiful inside and out. #4. Even my “flaws” have good and helpful aspects. #5. I love and approve of myself. #6. I am delighted with who I am. #7. I fully approve of who I am, even as I better myself. #8. I approve of myself and love myself completely. #9. I am happy in my own skin and in my own circumstances. #10. I am surrounded by love. #11. I am treasured for who I really am. #12. I am worthy of happiness and love. #13. I enjoy my own company as I get in touch with my true self. #14. I am at peace and happy when I’m alone.
It may sound like Stuart Smiley but go with it!

Good morning all! Went out with the ladies from church last night (The name of the group is The Classy Chicks!) and we ate at an Italian resturant. Lots of sodium I'm sure! I brought home more than half of my Stromboli. The sausage was kind of spicy so I had some problems with heartburn. I guess I'm just getting old! LOL. Oh - sometimes some of the husbands will come along and sit at a different table and they call themselves the "Rowdy Roosters". LOL. Anyway - it's good fellowship.
Found out yesterday that DBIL's mother's funeral will be on Friday so I'll plan to go to that. I have choir rehearsal tonight and plan to go to CR tomorrow night. I did find the name of an individual counselor as well so I'll have options if I decide that individual is a better fit for me. Not much planned for today. I need to get some laundry done. Hope everyone has a great day! Murphy

DH & I walked at the clubhouse yesterday and I dropped off my application for the Fall Fest. When we got back I picked green beans, tomatoes, cucumbers, and some jalapenos and took them to the neighbor next door (Blue's mom). Then I watered the garden plants and flowers in pots. When I came in I had lunch and some couch time. DH installed the Ring doorbell camera we've had for probably 2 years. I did a workout with weights before dinner. We had no plans for dinner so I ended up heating up some Costco chicken nuggets and frozen spinach artichoke dip. I watched Find Me Falling, a Netflix movie with Harry Connick Jr., which I enjoyed. I went to bed at the usual time, got involved reading my book and stayed up to finish it. Then I had trouble falling asleep, tossing and turning until after 3.
It's another sunny day, still in the 60's.
Murphy- Thanks for getting us started. WTG making clothes donation. I wish I could share my cucumbers with you too. The Classy Chicks and Rowdy Roosters sound fun. Hope CR is a good experience for you and good that you've researched personal counselors.
Jan- Glad you checked in, the cabin scale is being nice, DB is having fun. Enjoy the fair.
Cindy- So glad you are feeling better, sorry DS & neighbor are now sick. I can't imagine 109 temp.
Cathy- WTG for OP days and tracking. Some of your books some really interesting. Thanks for the links to the reviews.

M-W Word of the Day
sentient adjective | SEN-shee-unt What It Means Sentient is a formal term that typically describes beings conscious of or responsive to the sensations of seeing, hearing, feeling, tasting, or smelling. // An avid gardener, Dorothy has recently been absorbed in books that examine the question of whether, and to what degree, plants are sentient.

Hi girls! WOOHOO! I was down 2.8 today! I couldn’t believe it! I never lose that much at once! I am still up 2 pounds from my lowest before vacation in JUNE! but will get there. One of these days I will indeed reach the 60’s! I’ve already been to line dance and am swimming with a friend soon. And tonight I have a meeting. I haven’t heard from Jackson. I’m wondering if his parents took his phone from him or something. He usually answers me back. I’ll ask him in person when we celebrate his birthday on Sunday.
Cindy: I’m glad you are feeling better and so sorry that DS now has it! 109! Those temps just seem so high!
Murphy: The classy chicks and the rowdy roosters! Love it!! Will your friend go with you Thursday night? Would you feel better going with someone than having to walk in alone? Have you ever actually done the whole CR before? My mind remembers you doing the first part, but then being in charge of another part? Have you gone to the second part for A? The only thing I know about CR is from a movie I watched!
Amy: I love how you enjoy your tub time! I can’t tell you the last time I was in a bath tub!
Jan: I know you’re enjoying your time away with sibs!
Cathy: I don’t know how you do it! That’s a lot of different books and kinds of books! I hope DD can work some magic with the Visa!

September 2 Hi all. We all spent the day at the fair and had a great time. Wandered the exhibits, I bought some yarn at a spinning/craft area. DB and Sis went on a big ferris wheel, I was just the photographer We saw the baby lambs and chicks that had just been born, got in our steps and didn't go crazy on fair food. I had a cheeseburger and DB and I stopped in the small grocer on the way home and got some salad fixings, that will be enough I'm sure. We also drove over to the Bay and waded a bit in the "big" water, felt so good after all the walking at the fair. I was done by the time we got to the car from the fair, was getting pretty hot, I got some sun. Felt great to take a shower when I got home. DB went back to fish a little bit more, tomorrow we all go back home but I know it was worth the trip for all of us. Got some time together, shared some cabin memories and saw some new things. Will be a quiet evening, start getting some things packed up that I know will be going home, close up the barn, bring in the BBQ table that we use outside when cooking, fold up chairs etc. We have been so lucky with the beautiful weather. I do need to water good before I go tomorrow as there hs been no rain and probably will be over a week before I get back up. Hope you've all had a nice Wednesday. I'll check it tomorrow at some point when I get home. Take care all. Jan Murphy Your fellowship groups sound fun. Was it a chain restaurant or somewhere local? All you can do is drink your lots of water and flush out the sodium, sure I got a big dose today too. yay for donating a bag of clothes and clearing out some more things. Hope the CR goes well or you like the counselor. Amy Has Blue been found? Sure hope so. You did great on the protein and carb macros for sure. I am still eating carbs like crazy. At least I passed on the ice cream at the fair, had a few bites of my bother's cone and that was enough. GG Whee girl, that's a loss! have fun at Jack's b day. CIndy Glad you are feeling better, sorry about DS. Need to go back and get caught up.

Hi friends! I can’t remember if I posted or not yesterday! We’re trying to watch the last episode of our series on Netflix (the Last Kingdom—really good!) but our internet is not working 👎🏻. Work was quite busy today, makes the day go fast! Girls are already being *^itchy, I think it may be a long year! Doing so-so eating wise. I’m helping with a fundraiser tonight by having Culver’s ice cream-/thought that was pretty nice of me!
Amy, how’s Annie doing?
Vicki-congratulations on the weight loss!
Cindy, I hope DS feels better soon.
Cathy, thank you for sharing your book review information. Do you choose the books or are they assigned? Do you get paid?
Jan, sounds like you had a wonderful time! Is the fair all summer?
Murphy, I hope you like CR or the counselor.

Start weight July 5: 167.6 July 12: 171.6 July 19: 171 July 26:172 August 2: 171.2 August 9: 170.8 August 16: August 23: August 30: Yay we have done great! September 2 Starting weight: 167.6 and today's weight <167.8> [another OP day plus walking in Batroun]
Had fun with Rosalie yesterday and found a purse for 9 dollars and pants for 4 though either I missed the big mending job on the inseam on one pant leg gave out when the garment was rinsed and hung to dry before wearing. We also had iced coffee and played a game of cards before heading home.
I wrote a review for the so-so book that I had no liking of any of the characters except for the ghosts and a few supporting characters and then started another book and stayed up till 2am reading then decided to head to bed.
When I was about to get under the mosquito net and lie down in bed I saw something move. A tiny pink thing that was a house gecko. I tried to box it to release it and it hid but did not make it under the net to join me and hide in the bed SO...tried again...and it skittered away to, I think, land on the floor. I have seen it when smaller and it is growing. Wonder where I will see it next? Hopefully NOT in bed with me!
BOOKS: I started reading to review almost ten years ago, I think. I decided that if I could get the books for free it would save us a lot of money and since I can't borrow from a public library...it made sense. I set up the blog site and began with iffy books that I found on LibraryThing and found a few authors that I became an advanced reader for. Later I found NetGalley and have been reading book basically through them plus the ARC (advanced readers copies) I receive from authors like Jill Shalvis, Kat Martin, Melissa Foster, Serenity Woods, and others. I look at the synopsis of the books and if they are of interest, an author I like, a topic that grabs my attention...and I have time to get the books read in a timely fashion, I request the book then do my best to read and review by publication date. I make sure to read by publication date for the authors I am an ARC team member. I am behind now, though, and trying to catch up. No money is paid to me for reading but I do get copies of the books free to read. ON NetGalley the copies disappear in a couple of months but some authors and download sites give e-copies that can be stored and reread.
