I have a question about activity points. Freestyle tracks them, but I don't know how to fit them into the program.
The last time I did WW which was a couple years ago, I did it online only. I sync my Fitbit with WW, so I get activity points for all my daily movement. I would add my daily activity points to my daily allowance so I could eat a little extra every day. It made me want to walk more.
Today's handout was about activity. When I asked about using the APs, the WW person said they recommend just using the weekly points allowance and only using APs when those had run out. Is that what most people do? For me, that gives me no incentive to want to move more. Not if I can lose weight without extra exercise.

You have 3 choices and it is 100% up to you which one you choose.
1. You can choose to not swap activity points for food at all. That is, you can't eat more at all based on activity. Initially when SmartPoints came out a couple of years ago this was the recommendation and some leaders still say this. However, at one point, WW tweaked things and no longer make this recommendation (the tweak was that the first 3 points or so you earn each day can't be swapped for food).
2. You can swap for food but use your weekly points first. So you build up the activity points and only eat them once you have eaten all of your weekly points. That seems to be what was suggested to you.
3. You can swap Activity Points (actually now called FitPoints) first before weekly points. I have done this in the past. I think it works best for those people who earn activity points on a consistent basis.
Despite what anyone says at your meeting, it is totally up to you as to what works best for you. I would recommend trying out swapping FitPoints first and see if you like that. If you don't then you can try swapping the other way. You select your option in settings.

Kitty summed it up very well. I really only started exercising regularly after I got to goal weight. I do it now for health more than weight loss. And probably for maintenance as well. I use my activity points after the weeklies are gone. Some weeks I use them, some I don't.

I always have my tracking set up to use APs before weeklies. In my mind, I've earned the APs whereas the weeklies are "given to me."
Keep in mind that WW awards about half the calories you burn back to you as APs. So even if you eat all of them you've earned some of those burned calories are still working to enhance your weight loss.

I had to quit eating (then) Activity Points about 5 years ago because I couldn't maintain my weight and eat them; WW's has always been really generous with the distribution and now are even more generous with FitPoints. That being said, I have always thought people need to do whatever they need to to stay on program....so, as Kitty Kitty said, feel free to use them and see how it works for you.

ksbruns, One thing I think that helps with FitPoints now is that you have to meet a baseline before you can swap them out. That seems more reasonable to me than not doing it. I remember back in the day (pre-SmartPoints) and before WW worked with activity monitors except their own ActiveLink. Some people who were used to earning huge numbers of Activity Points were gobsmacked that they earned far fewer points with the ActiveLink. One problem is that people were manually recording activity and were recording everything as intense vigorous activity that was really more moderate (at best). One advantage of an activity monitor is that it takes a lot of that subjectivity out of it. Still, I think the baseline is a good idea.l

My leader advises to use Fit Points as an emergency fund and that we should try not to use them unless we're fueling for really intense workouts (and there's actually a marathon runner in my meeting who never eats hers). Which really just makes me wonder why WW has them at all if we're being encouraged not to eat them. At least the old APs made sense - I find FPs impossible to understand. So I'm not helping at all, I guess I'm just saying I feel your pain!

I've been wondering the same thing. I just started exercising regularly with a treadmill. I do around 45 minutes and am sweating profusely by time I'm done, but I don't feel out of breath. I count this as moderate activity and earn 6 FPs each time on the app. I don't eat them as I usually have weeklies left over; however , I wonder about eating them if I have a 'big' event.

I count ALL of my activity, even the 45 minutes on the treadmill that I do as part of my exercise routine, as low intensity. That way I know I'm not overstating them. Also, sweating is not an indication of how hard you're working. I can be sweating like a pig after only a few minutes. My sister, who works equally as hard, never breaks a sweat.

luanne, Back before I had my Fitbit and was doing exercise recording manually I always counted everything as low intensity. I figured that was safe.

How was your weekly about activity? The weekly this week is called your toolkit.

I don't intentionally eat my Fit Points, but rather keep them for the extra tastes, bites, glass of wine and Hershey Kisses that sneak in my mouth.

Kitty , tell me more about the FP baseline. I have gone over the weeklies but never see anything come out of the FP. Is the baseline your weekly FP goal?
