Ruth, hope that you can have some luck finding someone to mow your lawn… yes it is that time of year, isnt it?
If my DS (who is working some hideous hours does not get to my lawn I will either have to do my own lawn or also find someone else to do it….

Hello - Hope you are both having a nice day. It's a bit milder here, lows 60s and sunny. Ginny - Your quilt is so pretty, I hope your DGD loves it Ruth - Does your DH have more appointments this week? I hope you can find someone to mow your lawn. I've stressed out about mine for several years, I was really looking forward to not having that worry this year I just hope they show up, I won't know until I go to the house in a few days. I went out this morning and did some shopping. It's so nice to live close to the stores now, that is definitely one thing I'm enjoying about the move. This afternoon I finished piecing all my yellow blocks for this month's Rainbow Scrap Challenge. I have a few other blocks to make from a different project and then I hope to get back to the jelly roll quilt. Take care

Survived my crazy day of watching DGS who was really very good and easy to be with.DSIL relieved me a bit early… so I was able to get home early and get dinner made.Ds (who worked a double) went straight to bed.. which means that tomorrow nights dinner is done, and I will save the meal I made for then. I did give the quilt to DD, who loved it. Think my next project will be to finish a quilt top I made a few months ago, and it just needs to be quilted and bound. I am not sure how I will quilt that one, as it’s a geometric pattern, all kinds of thoughts are going through my head. It’s a smaller quilt and would be easy to do either an echo stitching or stitch in the ditch…or even a diagonal. I would like to get that done because it does not require a lot of work and should be easy to finish.
Ruth, hope that if you were hoping to hear from Dh’s doctors office that they did check in…
CJ- any additional news on the house sale?

This site is SO wonky!!! I refreshed before I posted and CJ’s post was not there…and now, voila, it’s there. CJ, I am so very glad that some aspects of your life are easier with shopping being closer to where you live. Regarding the house, in a month or so someone else will have to worry about landscaping and taking care of the lawn. I hope that happens quickly for you! Congrats on piecing the blocks for the rainbow scrap challenge….yellow is such a lovely color, bright and happy. Hope you had fun piecing it!!!

CJ, I do hope the landscape people show up and are reliable as long as you need them. It's great that you were able to get the yellow blocks done
Ginny, it's nice that your dsil relieved you early so that you could get home. It sounds like you're not planning to make yourself a big meal this evening since your ds won't be home to eat with you. At least you have tomorrow's dinner made.
I really think that all the health care providers here are brain dead. We spent a lot of time on the phone with several different people none of which seemed to know a thing. It's so frustrating. Dh asked our PCP about an A1c. In response to that she told him that he could come in tomorrow and have a finger stick glucose done. I have no clue why she would think we would want to drive all the way over there to do that when we can do the finger sticks here at home. That was not what we asked. And when he asked her about A1c and hemoglobin she talked about cholesterol and triglycerides. I don't think she focuses well. If there were doctors here that actually accepted Medicare I'd change doctors. The recent tests were supposed to be checking on the levels that were high 6 months ago and it turned out they didn't even order the A1c nor the Hgb which were the two that were elevated back then.

Good morning, Ruth that is so insanely frustrating that the PCP’s office cannot seem to get DH’s bloodwork straightened out- its not as though asking for an A1C or hemoglobin test is unusual…I admit I chuckled hearing that Dh was told he could come in for a finger stick glucose test. My only question from that painful (painful for you and DH because you did not get your questions answered) conversation with the doctors office would be that the A1C and hemoglobin were in range so she opted to speak about cholesterol and triglycerides because they were out of range? Of course I could be absolutely wrong, but it’s the only explanation I can come up with for why they did not directly and clearly respond to Dh’s concerns. What is that saying, you cannot fix stupid? Sometimes we are just dealing with stupid people.
Laugher of all….Ds came home on time and dinner was actually done! (I made meatloaf and herbed roasted potatoes). He was exhausted because he had worked 2 doubles in 48 hours… so he did not eat dinner but went straight to bed. But, he did take some of last nights dinner for his lunch (as evident by the large piece of meatloaf that is missing) so it’s ok. It is hard to figure out if or when he is going to join me for meals…and tonight is certainly suspect as he will probably get stuck for another double.
So I took out the 3 yard quilt that I made earlier this year. It’s a pretty quilt, and it’s for me for the living room. The quilt top is done now it’s just a matter of deciding how to quilt it. I have to pick up something from Jane related to this Sundays service, and I will bring the quilt top with me to see what she thinks about quilting it.
CJ- when are you heading over to the house to see if the landscaper has shown up? Is this the same person who cut the lawn last year?

Hello Ginny - I'm glad your DD loved the quilt. Hope you can decide on the quilting design for the 3 yard quilt you made for yourself. I hope your DS won't have to do many more of these double shifts, I can't imagine how tired he is. The landscaper from last year told me he wasn't going to work in my area this season, so this is a completely new company I hired for just one cut to see what happens. I'm hoping to get to the house in a few days and that when I get there I will see the grass has been cut. If they do an alright job, I'll just keep using them every few weeks until (or if) I sell the house. Ruth - I'm so sorry you and your DH have to deal with the frustrating doctor's offices, it seems like so many professional offices are this way now. I hope that you can get things straightened out so your DH has the tests he needs. I finished a few quilt blocks today for a new quilt. I had thought about doing a sampler quilt along that started this month and bought some fabric and the book for it, but the more I think about it I just don't think I'm up to making another large sampler and the quilt along runs into next year too, which is just too long. I did like another pattern in the book, so I'm going to make it with the fabrics I bought. They are Kansas Troubles fabrics so it will be more of a reproduction look. This was the quilt along I decided not to do: Â blog.fatquartershop.com/category/celebrate-with-quilts/piece-and-quilt-sampler-quilt-along/www.fatquartershop.com/chickadee-landing-fat-quarter-bundle - These are the fabrics I bought This is a gripe - I'm finding more and more of these quilt alongs want you to buy a book to get the patterns. I don't mind purchasing a book, but I'd prefer a digital version since I've tried hard not to build up a bunch of books in my house that I probably won't use again. I think I might send a comment to the Fat Quarter Shop to see if they'd consider making more digital books. I know most quilters prefer the hard copy, but at my point in life I just don't need to accumulate a bunch of books. There is another quilt along starting soon that looks really nice and it also requires the book, and I just don't want to buy another book. I'm pretty sure I can figure out this pattern myself (sizes, etc.), since it's a basic bowtie block. I feel bad though because I do try to support the quilters, but just wish they'd offer digital books too, blog.fatquartershop.com/announcing-the-vintage-bowtie-sew-along/Take care

CJ- I am hoping that when you get to the house that you are pleasantly surprised and the lawn is cut!! Oh, I hear you, if you are not up to a large sampler quilt then there has to be another way around it…. The quilt you decided not to do is very sweet- but I do understand and that quilt would be difficult to make only part of. I LOVE the Kansas trouble moda fabric line of fabric and it’s that fabric line that I used for 2 table runners and my large BOM. So very pretty and yes I really like the reproduction fabrics. Have you gone through the quilt patterns at Missouri? Most of their patterns are available in digital format. Perhaps you can find something similar there. But I totally agree with you that it’s a problem to buy a book…especially after having just moved. Another idea….how about just googling a bow tie block quilt in digital format and seeing what you find? And I think you buy enough from the fat quarter shop that it would be nice if they responded to you should you choose to email them. Good luck.
Ruth, how has your day been? Have had any luck with doctors offices today? I hope that you have made up your crochet kits, so that you are ready to crochet on the go when you need to.
Not a bad weather day here. I did go see Jane - first because of some music that I needed copying for church and second to discuss quilting. She had some great ideas for a pattern to stitch on this quilt top, and I will check out some youtubes to see what I can find. I also did my “homework” for the class I have to take in 2 weeks to maintain my teaching license, and got some more dreaded yard work done. So now my back hurts…but that sort of goes with the yard work.
Ds got stuck for another double and will, Lord willing, be home a bit before midnite.
Think I am going to go check out youtube for ideas to quilt this quilt top.

CJ, I can understand why you wouldn't want to be in a QAL that lasted all that time. I know i'd never keep up that long. The fabrics on the link you provided to us are very pretty and I'm sure that whatever you make with them will be stunning. I hope that this lawn service works for you and also that you won't need them very long. Ginny, I'm glad your dd likes the quilt.Getting together with Jane to decide on how to quilt the top you made is a great Idea. With both her's and your ideas you will come up with a good plan. I hope your poor son gets some time off to rest up. That's crazy that he has to do all those double shifts. He'll have tons of money but be too exhausted to ever spend any of it. Dh had to go for an x-ray of his back today. Then afterward we stopped in the grocery store near there and picked up a few things. Two old people hobbling along in the store Last evening I started two hats I wanted to get started so that I could work on them while waiting at his appointment on Thurs. The nurse there said she got his hgbA1c report. Of course she didn't. I got the copy of it in the mail today and no A1c was even done so they must have given this office the result from about 7 months ago which was falsely elevated due to my dh having to take steroids in that period of time.Steroids elevate the blood sugar.Sometime we'll get it all ironed out. Now I'm back to working on the baby blanket which is nearly done.

Ruth - how is your foot doing? You did sprain it the other day and have mentioned little about it since then. Nice that you are working on 2 hats already, and they will be easy for you to continue working on them tomorrow.. wow- how incompetent. I find it hard to accept that the results from 7 months ago would be acceptable to a medical office, especially when he is going in for surgery in a short while. Do you think that perhaps the A1C results were sent in a separate mailing? Ok, I am sure you are laughing by now, and I am trying go be really optimistic. I hope you do get all this straightened out, which I know you will.…
What a long day! I worked quite a few hours, and then had a doctor appointment myself to go over my recent blood work (which was all fine). The doctor wants bloodwork repeated in 6 months (which Is when my PCP will ask for repeat blood work), just to be throughout. I did stop to see Jane and picked up her free motion book (we have books by the same author, with different ideas). Janes book covers quilting in blocks more (mine is more free motion).I got a great idea from her book and will start playing with a test block tomorrow.
CJ- hope your day went well! Are you supposed to get really cold weather tonight?

Ginny, I'm really glad that your bloodwork is all ok. I just don't get why doctors make you come in to their office to tell you that the results are good and that you should have them repeated in six months. Why can't they do that on the phone. Well at any rate it's great that the results were fine and it does sound like you have a very busy day. I hope the block you plan to make tomorrow turns out to be what you want it to be.It's great that you have friends that also are quilters so that you can share ideas and books.
No they definitely didn't do an A1c.I would have thought that they would want to since the previous one was elevated. The good news is that his hemoglobin is down into the normal range. I'll have to explain the elevated A1c to them tomorrow...that is was old results and that I have no idea what it would be now since the last one, as I mentioned, was falsely elevated due to being on Prednisone. But enough of the whining. Oh I'll whine a little more...my foot didn't like me for doing all that walking and aches a little more and is a little more swollen but I'll live and the foot will be fine.
We're having a nice fake spring day today and tomorrow before it gets colder again.
Just to make dh's blood sugar high(not really) I baked an apple pie today. I guess I should be more diligent in encouraging him to do better on his eating but right now he needs comfort food.
CJ, since you haven't been here today (or maybe you're typing at this same time) I'm thinking that you probably went to your house again to check on it and see if the lawn has been mowed. I hope it has and I hope you're having a good and enjoyable day.

Hello Ginny - I'm glad to hear your blood work was O.K. and I hope your back is feeling better. I'm glad you found a design in Jane's book for your free motion quilting, hope you can try it out and see how it goes. I had already bought the book for that quilt along I decided not to do, but it does have some good patterns in it and I'm using the Kansas Troubles fabric to make one of them. I won't buy the book with the bowtie pattern, since I know how to make that block. I can actually figure out the pattern for this quilt along just looking at the pictures and size of the quilt. It uses 3.5 inch squares and 1.5 inch pieces for the snowballs. I don't need to make another bowtie quilt right now anyway, I did one a few years ago. Ruth - I'm sorry that walking made your foot hurt, hope you can rest it up later this week (sounds like you have another appointment tomorrow). I'm glad you are having a nice weather day. And I'm sure your DH will enjoy that apple pie It was nice weather here today, in the 70s and sunny. I'm not sure if it's getting cold tonight or not, I've mostly been paying attention to any rain, since I didn't want to go out if it was raining. I did go to my house today and the grass hadn't been cut While I was there I sprayed the weeds growing in the driveway since they were getting high, I'll spray them again the next time I go. When I got back here I called the grass company and asked when they were going to my house and they said they would go this afternoon. The texted me late this afternoon and sent pictures of my grass that had been cut. So that is one thing off my mind. I can see that I'm going to have to get the grass cut in May again a few times too. I spent a lot of yesterday talking to the house buying companies, my lawyer and several county offices. I'm trying to see a way forward with the house sale, or else I hope the company will void the contract so I can pursue another buyer. It looks like this is going to keep going on for a while at least. It's very depressing dealing with this so some days I just don't get much done. I did cut the fabrics for this week's Moda block and I hope I can get that made tomorrow. Here's the block: modafabrics.com/inspiration-resources/bh5-group-2-block-17-vanessa-christensonI'm making mine more like that green and orange one near the center of the page, since I like the way the star points in the orange and white show up. The other blocks look really busy to me. Hope you get to do some crafting too. Take care

Hello - Hope everyone is doing well today. It was a bit cooler here today. I was able to finish my Moda Blockheads block and update my Temperature quilt. I also got all the blocks sewn together for the jelly roll quilt, so now I just have to lay them out in rows and get the rows sewn together. I hope I can get this done in the next few days. That's the part I really don't like because I get too concerned about putting the same color fabrics next to each other. It would be easier if I was someone who could just grab and block and sew it, but that's not my style Hope you get to do some crafting too

Today was supposed to be a very warm day. At 10 am it was 61 then an hour later it was down to 54. Rain was forecast and it was raining a tiny bit but was very overcast so I was concerned about going out in the rain but by the time we had to leave for dh's app't it was bright and sunny and almost 70. We had a good doctor visit. I couldn't hear a word because the doctor has a soft voice and a tone that I can't hear but dh was pleased. So his surgery will be in the beginning of June. I was a little disappointed that they didn't mention any tests being needed nor did they give us the pre-op instructions but did say they would call use to let us know when the surgery was scheduled and give us all the info then. CJ, I'm really sorry to hear that things are not going well with the sale of your house. I'm sending hugs. I'm glad to see that you felt well enough to work on some quilting and it sounds like you got a lot done. Ginny, did you work a lot again today...you need a break! I did take crocheting with me and worked on it but only hat bands.
