Hello all. It looks like everyone is here except for Phyl who is always on the go. Ginny, I had a similar experience at Walmart when buying potting soil. We went to look for some and found a bunch that had no price so we asked and found it was marked down to $1 for a huge bag so we got all they had that weren't broken open. I think it was about 4 bags. It was late in the season and they were trying to clear things out. I didn't tell my dh about your mulch or he would have wanted to run to Walmart to see if ours had that bargain. Last time we were there we looked at plants but didn't go out to the other side where they have soils and mulches. Ginny, I haven't made the fruit infusions or herbal tea because according to the IC food lists most fruits are too acidic and cause problems. And the other thing is, I've seen that there is a trend in drinking infused water even with veggies and they sell infusers but I can't imagine how any of the fruit or veggie actually gets into the water itself. Have you ever tried any? And in teas the only ones they say don't cause problem are peppermint and chamomile neither of which I like. I used to be a big tea drinker but never cared for the flavored and herbal teas but I do have a WHOLE bunch of boxes of them. I need to just throw them away.Lately it's been coffee I drink. Dh got interested in coffees so I kinda got drinking coffee in place of tea although when working I drank gallons of coffee Meg, I'm glad you got to fall back to sleep and get a little more rest. And it sounds like they were able to access a vein ok these two times. I'm glad of that. It's not fun getting stuck with needles. CJ, that's how I like to eat it too...just out of a bowl. When I make strawberry rhubarb sauce or pie or crisp I do add cornstarch to make it thicker but when I'm just going to eat it I don't thicken. Today I got a box down from the closet shelf that was labelled landscape pictures. Dh and I went thru them and got rid of a LOT. Some were just boring and of things we can go take with our digital camera now and some had multiple copies. I did find some of the pictures we took over in Germany when we went there in 2001...the ones of places and landscape, castles, cathedrals, etc so I kept those. Still a huge pile of pictures got tossed so one more thing cleared. Giny I think we should add buying mulch to our crafting list because you are crafting a plan to beautify your garden

Good evening!
CJ, I have said it before and will say it again.- you get so much done in the colder months that you make up for not crafting right this minute. You are smart for getting your excercise in when the temps are cooler...if I remember correctly you are going to have pretty much the same weather for the next week. How far do you have to drive to get to an Amish market? I wonder with the strawberries if they are switching markets....for example, Dh and I went to a farmers market yesterday and they had no tomatoes. Dh wanted some to eat with the fresh basil we have growing. BTW our basil plant looks incredible- its very full and healthy looking. But no tomatoes- because there are no longer any hot house tomatoes, and the local ones are not ripe yet. Perhaps the strawberries are similar- we are past the time of florida and really southern states berries, but the local ones are not ripe yet? But that makes no sense either......ok I will shut up as I am probably driving you crazy.
Meg, I did a wee little research and it said that rhubarb cannot be grown in coastal Southern California because there is no dormancy in the winter. If you are off the coast a bit, and the winters go into the 40's certain varieties will be ok. And sometimes a sleepy day is a good thing...glad you had a book to "read" and a project to work on. I will pray that the test in August goes well and that the source of the low iron is an easy fix. So glad you got the second infusion without difficulty.
Think DD#2 and I are walking to a concert in the village later on. It's still above 80 but there is a breeze. Think its a band that plays 60's and 70's music....and while I am sure they are not the best musicians ever, hey its a nice summer evening and the concert is free! It will be nice to spend the time with Dd, if she still wants to go.
I slept poorly last night, thanks to 2 of our cats. The indoor outdoor guy wants to go out the minute he hears the first bird chirp at 4:30 am....and that wakes up the other cat- all she wants is to be fed. So the two spat with each other, which gets me out of bed. Not much fun for me.
Enough babbling from me. I tried looking for Phyls new afghan pattern- not sure what site it was on but I was unable to find it.
Have a good night all Ginny

Ruth, I missed your post.....I tore out a ton of pachysandra and put in mulch instead. Much easier to take care of and looks tons neater. In the process I moved some hostas and iris to better locations. So I dunno if it looks better but I am trying to reduce the amount of work I have to do outside. For infusions I just take some of the fruit......slices of you name it.....and allow them to "steep" in cold water. Not much acid gets in the water, but its just enough to impart a faint taste. After a day or so, change the fruit. One herbal tea that I really like is celestial seasonings herbal iced tea. Add a packet of trivia (stevia, so its natural) and its a lovely, light sweet drink. I know that bigelow makes a similar product- and if you make the tea dilute enough the herbal taste is not overwhelming. Mind you, its gotta be cold- but its a nice low acid drink which does not upset my irritable bowel syndrome. COngrats on cleaning out a lot of pictures! What did you see in Germany and why did you travel there?

Ginny, everyone I know practically has hostas but I don't have any. I wonder if they would grow here. I'd also like to get hydrangea but they're very expensive. The infused water sound interesting so I'll have to try it. I know some people make it with cucumbers. I'm not a big fan of cold beverages but sometimes when it's really hot I like to have one which is why I had the diet squirt three days in a row..maybe 4. And I do have both truvia and monk fruit...both natural sweeteners.I do drink hot drinks in the summer too and my dh drinks only cold drinks all year round. The coffee he drinks is iced coffee even in the middle of the winter.
The concert sounds nice even though they may not be the greatest musicians. Just spending the time with your dd will be great.
I sure agree, CJ, that you do so much in the way of crafting in colder weather that if you don't do any now you will make up for it. I'd love to be able to see your collection of quilt tops that you made.
I don't know why I didn't think of it before. I was an infusion therapist for the last few years I worked which meant tht I started I'v's, placed Picc lines and took care of other central lines.Yesterday I saw a pattern for picc line covers. What a great idea. Everyone that has a PICC needs some kind of cover. I should have thought of it myself. Many children have piccs so if people made really nice knit and crochet covers for them the kids would love it.A person could make a pokemon or some other video game character, or Minion, or pretty much any popular child's character. Most people I know who have had chemo have inplanted ports not piccs but I hear tht most people that have other serious chronic illnesses have piccs. Children have cystic fibrosis and other illnesses which necessitate a central line and many times it's a picc. So I'm going to add that to my list of donated items. they are easy and fast to make. There are many hospitals that have large pediatric units for children with chronic illnesses that would probably love to have these covers. I'm going to check into it.Adults would like them too.

Good morning!
Ruth, gee cucumbers sound like a really nice thing to make an infusion with....do you have some mint growing? That would compliment the cucumber a bit I would think. Just a very light flavored drink that does trigger any health issues. No idea if hostas grow in your area, I would guess if you check the extension service in your state they might be able to give you that information.
Concert was pretty good- they played from the music library of two different bands, and we agreed to leave as they went into the later half when the songs they were playing was less to our liking. All in all it was a pleasant time. Dd#1 and her family were there too...nice to see them.
THink I am heading out to spread that expensive mulch. Another hot day awaits. GInny

Hello to all. I think I came here earlier but then dh decided he needed me to do something so I never did reply.
Ginny, the only herbs I have growing is basil and thyme. I bought a rosemary plant the other day but it came in a peat pot and I forgot to water it and now it looks pretty dead.Whenever I go to walmart again I'll have to get another one. I never have grown mint because I don't care for mint flavor but I'm sure it would be refreshing in an infused water. If you grow mint you should try the cucumber mint combo because I've heard it's really good.
PHyl, I don't know which site you mean but CJ has sure posted some good ones. And that's why I don't do chevron because I usually have to rip them out too much because I miss the stitches your supposed to skip or I add too man where you need to increase. And I do have trouble finding a lot of yarns here so that's why I buy online. I get some from Herrschner and some from I love to crochet I think the site is called.
Ginny, last night I was using the yarn from that kit to make ruffly panties for the cp dolls and remembered that you asked if kits were still being sold. Yes Herrschner's sells kits and Lion Brand sells kits too but I've just seen kits for sweaters and shawls and things like that. I've bought a lot of baby blanket kits from Herrschner and have only made one so far. Some have really ugly patterns but I figured I'd use the yarn for something else.Haven't got to that yet though. The ruffly undies pattern is part of a set with a dress and hat. I don't know if I'll make the dress or not but I might try it.
Went to whatever they call the place you renew your license here. (auto registration, license plates is in a whole different location) . We had about a 4 minute wait till dh was called and the process itself didn't take long either. we took all the papers, birth certificate, ss card and proofs of address as it instructed in the sheet they send in the mail but all they wanted to see was his birth certificate. When I was there in Oct all they wanted to see was the two proofs of address for me. WEnt to three grocery stores and got quite a few things so we won't have to go out for awhile. It was supposed to be cooler today but got up to 97.No humidity though so it didn't feel too awful but it did feel hot.
I hope you all had a good day and will get a good rest tonight. I'll be crocheting in a minute.

Good morning!
Phyl- great to hear from you and thanks for posting again the red heart pattern. I will have to go check it out. Guess you are finding it a bit of a challenge to work on? Are the directions poorly written, perhaps. THink the only quilting web site I have posted recently is Missouri Star Quilt company. CJ posts much many more links than I do - but if I happen to remember another link that I might have posted, I will repost. Hope that you slept well, and that the smaller CPAP mask works well for you. Such a blessing it is to sleep well.
Ruth, I love growing rosemary, and wish like crazy that I could grow it as a perennial, but it is almost always killed by NY winters. Too bad about your plant! What do you use rosemary for? One thing about peppermint- if you do not like the flavor, I get it....but I have to say that my homegrown peppermint makes the most amazing tea. It's MUCH better than celestial seasonings, whose tea I will drink if I run out of home grown stuff. And it works really well for infusions or as a garnish for fruit salads. Congrats on the reasonably easy process to get Dh's drivers license renewed. Bet that was a pleasant surprise!! Hope you can stay in today if you are still having really hot temperatures.
Got some more work done on the embroidery last night. Think today I need to go to the store, get some fresh fruit and a few other basics that I did not pick up in Walmart the other day. Laundry today too and. Hopefully a little bit of housework. And yes, I will get a walk in.
Better get my day started. Have a great day all Ginny

Phyl- I checked out red hearts site to see the chevron pattern afghan. It looks so pretty!! I was actually glad to see that its a knit pattern- so I am not tempted to make it....i do hope that you can get the glitches out of the pattern or make it easier for you to make the pattern and keep things straight in your head. Some patterns are just awkward to work with. The hat pattern I have made several of took me 3 or 4 hats before i "got" the pattern and why I was changing stitches at certain intervals.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well - sounds like everyone is busy I did go to the Amish Market yesterday, which is about 40-45 minutes from my house. We also stopped at a farm market. I got some peaches at both places and have them ripening in brown paper bags, I hope these will taste better than the ones I got from the grocery store. I decided to take my hand quilting and embroidery projects up to my sewing room and out of the living room. Looking at them all the time and not working on them was depressing me. If I have the desire to work on one I can just go get it from the sewing room. I also straightened up some of the balls of yarn I had in bags, I can't believe how much Bernat Blanket yarn I have, I really must have though I was going to make a bunch of those blankets It's still really hot here so I'm just taking it easy. Hope you all have a good weekend!

Hello to all. It's good to see everyone. I wonder if Meg is having computer problems again though because she's the only one missing and we do miss you, Meg.
Yes I would never try a knitted chevron pattern because I can't even get it right on crocheting and in crocheting the mistakes are much easier to correct than taking out knit stitches and trying to get everything back on the needles.
Ginny, thanks for the info on the mint. I have another friend that grows it too and she also likes it a lot so since now I've heard from two friends on how good it is I may have to start growing it. As for the rosemary, I use it on meat. It's especially good on lamb although I don't eat much lamb even though we really like it. I do put it in in beef stew and pot roast, etc. So actually I really don't use a lot of it. When I had a plant before before I had it out on the deck and when winter came I took all the "leaves" off and dried them and tossed the plant. This time I planned to grow it indoors because I don't like to bring outdoor plants inside to to danger of insects affecting my houseplants.I still have hope for this plant. It MAYBE has some life left in it. I'm still not sure.
CJ, I'm glad you got peaches that may turn out to be good. Sounds like you had a successful trip.Yes I would move that craft stuff out of the living room too. Looking at it would tend to make a person depressed. As Ginny said, you do a LOT in the winter.
Today I've spent most of my time sorting thru my linen closet. I sure have way more pillow cases than I need. I have a ton of top sheets too.And I have a lot of twin sheets although we have no twin beds but I'll keep some for the twin air mattress I use when children are here.So I'm going to get rid of some of the top sheets that no longer have matching bottom sheets and I'll also donate some of the pillow cases. I already gave all my queen sheets to dd awhile ago when all her six kids were home. I don't have a queen size bed either. I need to get some more fitted sheets for my king size bed. I seem to have problems finding ones that actually fit and stay on. I hate when the corners come off while you're trying to sleep.
So now that I've had a break I'm going to go change the bed and do a little other work too. Then it will hopefully be crocheting evening although dh seems to think that he needs to keep me company constantly lately. He's changed his routine and I sometimes feel that it's a little too much togetherness. I need my "me" time
See you later

Speaking of fruit, I think I mentioned that I got cherries yesterday, maybe not...but I got two bags at one store and four bags at the next store. Well the bags from the first store were not good. The first bag had a lot of bad ones and the second bag had a big clump of mold in the middle of the cherries and they were all sticky so not good. I'm going to ask for my money back when I go next time. They're good at making things right at that store unlike walmart where I got some peaches that weren't good one time and next time I went back told them and they said they have a policy that you have to come back within a week. Well I don't get out that often. As a result I never buy fruit from Walmart. I liked it better when they had cherries and grapes just lying in bins and you bagged your own. now they come prepackaged and you can't see how they are except superficially. I used to just throw the fruit away if it wasn't good and forget about it but I finally realized that I was throwing away money that way and they need to know anyway that their stuff isn't good so they can take it up with whoever they get it from.
Dh helped process the cherries for the freezer which was a huge help.
I haven't started any crafting yet but will in a minute or two. I hope you're all having a good evening.

Hello, Ginny, Ruth, cj & Phyl,
I have just not been the mood to knit of crochet and I have been reading a lot. Devin has been on the computer a lot , probably too much. Next 2 weeks he will go to Vacation Bible School in the morning from 8 - 12. I was so tired today when it was time to go to Knit Wits I decided to stay home. Sometimes I just get so sleepy and I would much rather have our Knit Wits group meet in the morning like we used to. But I don't think that the library will let us make the change.
Devin has gone off for the weekend with his Mom so it will be a fairly quiet weekend. DD will probably come home tomorrow afternoon. I think DS & Devin are going to the state fair on Sunday. I will stay home as it is too hot for me to walk around the fair ground which is huge. I haven't gpne to the fair for years. Ruth, I took a crocheting class years ago and my first project was a chevron stitch afghan which I made for my DH. I still have it though I notice it is starting to go in places. I also made afghans for my DS & DGD#1. They all still have their afghans. The pattern was easy but now I can't see the chains properly. Perhaps after I have my cataract surgery I will be able to try again. I have never tried to knit one.
Phyl, I will have to check out your chevron pattern on the Red Heart site.
Ginny, I am glad you enjoyed the concert with your family. The park in my area always has different music groyps perform concerts in the summer. They have them on Sunday evenings.
cj, I hope you can find a cool spot to do your crafting.
I wish you all a good evening.

Meg, good to see you. It's great you still have the afgan you made for your dh. I have one my dh's grandmother made that's coming apart. They say you can repair them with fishing line but I don't know how you would do that.
I haven't been at a fair since 1993. It was so hot.Dh's sister was here visiting and we decided to go to the fair. I'm not interested in walking around in the hot sun. I think the fair might be going on right now actually. It's the county fair.

Happy Hot Saturday everyone. It will be 100 this afternoon. So I am staying home with DD. I did go out this morning .I got everything I needed at Target. I bought some underpants for DD and as I was sitting here putting her initials on them it occurred to me that they were too big though I bought the size I usually get her. I can't take them back because I have marked them with her initials They may fit someone at the care home.
So far no crafting today. perhaps I will feel like working on something. The books I have been reading this week are not audio though I have done a lot of reading.well I am off to help DD with her game which she pays over & over,
Have a good evening everyone.
