Good Monday Morning ~ glad to have this ONE more day off I was not very productive yesterday. Read a lot, puttered around, put ice on my knee, and watched football with DH...I guess I just needed a Day of Rest ... Jo - sorry DS's choice to go to the GF's house made you tear up...maybe as he grows more mature he'll feel less embarrassed by his sister's antics. I really feel it's just an adolescent 'thing' to feel easily embarrassed and worry what others think. I know you were disappointed...What did DH say? Your day sounded very busy with making dinner and making sure everyone had something special for New Year tradition! Carole - how did Game Day go and dinner? Hoping your sisters behaved!

Morning Carole, Christine and all to come...must say it's nice to have this extra day to do nothing!! It's miserable, cold & rainy here so will definitely be an inside day for us! Jason will go out and grill the pork chops later but he can stay dry under the porch roof! When I get the pork ready to go on the grill, that's when I'll vacuum seal the rest!! As much as I hate prepping stuff and vacuum sealing, I do the bargain I got....I sure can use the $70 someplace else these days!!
Shelly...even with January 1st being a holiday you had to go in to do statements?? WOW, thought you might have gotten to at least wait until today! Had to smile at the "chancing it" comment on the black eyed peas...around here it's pork & sauerkraut! I will say, for the Moul household...it really doesn't matter one way or the other, it doesn't ever give us good luck!!
WOW...inventory while customers milling around the store! Guess they have that down to a science so they don't mind the interruption!! Glad you won't have to cut hours for now even with the post-holiday slow down. Great plan to use the salaried people until the store gets busier later in the day. It sounds like last year you found just the right plan to work so that people could keep jobs and best utilize the staff.
LOL Shelly...Jason can't understand how I can just take a bite or two of the cheesecake either...but for me, it's "just enough" to enjoy the taste w/o all the other calories & fat!! Works for us!!
Last night I had the snow crab legs and only dipped a couple pieces in the clarified butter...the rest I just ate plain...had broccoli and the treat was the Tomato/Mozzarella Caprese salad...it was a little higher in calories, but SO WORTH the treat!! It was 120 calories, 6 carbs, 8 fat, 7 protein, 310 sodium and 4 sugar...but worth every bit!!! OMG it was heaven...it had a thick sweet & tangy balsamic reduction drizzled on the top that was perfect!!! Even with one Cheddar biscuit, my entire meal was under 800 calories...not bad for a dinner out!!

Yes Shelly...bag is already packed for the pool!!! I WILL go back tomorrow and be back in the habit of taking the hour & a half for me and better health & mobility!! In the cold months it is hard to get excited to go get wet but once I'm in the pool, it's worth the time and energy...really does make me feel better!
Shelly...on the old WW site you could make your stats visible to others and for me, it helped to keep me accountable...no one here is thrilled with the starting weight, but seeing the progress, good or bad, under my picture is a reminder for me that this is an ongoing journey, one that just doesn't stop when I hit my goal!!
Jo...glad you had some help in the kitchen grating potatoes...they sounds sort of like a gnocchi to me!! Bet they would be good with sauerkraut!! I never did see...did the Steelers win?? Need to prepare myself for the "Monday morning quarterbacking" that will still happen tomorrow when everyone gets back in the office...one of the three is a Steelers fan...the other two are Eagles & Bengals....it can get very "testy" some days!! LOL!! I just sit at my desk and ignore the chaos!!
Sorry Jo that DS opted to go to GF house, yes indeed it is hard to let them go as they grow up. Also breaks my heart that he deals with Emilie and the chaos by avoiding it. I hope that one day when he has a serious, forever girl she will learn about Emilie and her struggles and encourage him to be a part of his DS life and accept her with all her struggles and difficulties.
Carole...love your enthusiasm for the New Year!!! Yes indeed...for me, it may be Monday and be a "holiday" on paper, but I'm starting today as a normal Monday and I just happen to be at home!! Later today I will make my baked egg muffins for the week...we still have some of the soup left from NYE that isn't too bad points wise for a nice bowl. Will also have some pork loin chops to enjoy later in the week too!
Yay for a bonus day with Eden!! What time does she usually "rise & shine"?? I know my boys are usually up somewhere between 7-8am usually!! Rarely do they sleep in later than that unless they are sick!! So what are the big plans for this bonus day off??
Christine...sounds to me like you needed that day of rest yesterday!! Remember, tomorrow you will be back to work and your knee will need a bit of pampering still!! Any plans for today??
Waves to everyone else...going to make some breakfast, pay a few bills to start the year off all organized I want to set up all the bill payments for the entire month so I don't need to worry about them. Thankfully, the Christmas bills got spread out over a few months so the damage for January pay offs isn't too bad....we can do it!! There is only one bill yet to come that doesn't get paid until the end of the month...that's the PayPal bill but that will only be about $20 so all is well.
Back later...plan on a little laundry, a little movie watching, a little prepping for the week....all in all, a quiet "me day"!!

Good Morning! Its another chilli rainy day today. Well chili but will warm up the next few days. Crazy weather here. Tired of the rain though. We were getting organized and paying bills this morning. Or getting everything together to pay and figure out how we will get through the next couple of months. With not getting paid for the holidays and my being sick and only working one day last week, its going to be a hard month. A lean month! I plan to make some DD oatbran muffins today and maybe some egg cups to get prepared for the coming week. The last short week, thank goodness. I may try to get a WO in today too. I need to find a better outlet for my frustation, stress, ect.
Steven ended up staying home yesterday. His GF said she had to do something with her Mum and he could come over today instead. So we had the nice family NYD dinner together after all. I know I need to prepare for these things but man its hard.
Christine, Boy I hope it is a "teen" thing. It makes me really sad that he acts this way. Most of the time Emilie can't help the way she acts. One day the two of them will only have each other. Your words made me feel better about the situation. Thank You GF ♥. Yes I'm sure you did need a day of rest. Don't feel guilty for taking care of yourself.
Carole, sorry for no sleeping in for you. I was up at 7am. Not too bad. But you get to spend more time with the DGD. Thats a good thing. How did the turkey buffet dinner go?
Sue, that is my hope for them also. Made me tear up reading what you wrote. Thanks ♥ Grilled Pork Chops sounds yummy. Yes it was nice to have the help in the kitchen yesterday. I wrote all our bills in my planner and will keep that up for the rest of the year. I used to write them down in a note book. I like it better on a calendar. Seems more organized that way. We paid for our Christmas in cash which is a big change from how we usually do it. Guess thats why we are broke now. ☺ Your dinner at Red Lobster sounds really yummy and pretty low cal for going out to eat.
Shelly, I agree, doing inventory would seem caotic with customer milling around. I know your employees appreciate you trying to work with everyone there and not lay anyone off. Its hard this time of year.
Carole, Yay for figuring out copy/paste on a tablet. Its differnet thats for sure.
well better get that WO started before I change my mind......

Good morning! Coffee tasted good..I got Tim Hortons.
Carole - thanks for starting us off! New Year, new Monday, a good time to take stock of where you are, where you want to be, and what you can and are ready to do to get there. Look back at 2016 and think about your obstacles and how you can make 2017 better. As ever, I am my own biggest obstacle!
Sue-I have helped with inventory at the Disney store, Coldwater Creek, and the Boy Scout shop. I think Disney was the only one open. Oh I forgot about Sears but can't remember how they did it...
Christine-I think a day of rest is just what you needed. I watched football with hubby and he is thrilled that the Packers won.
DD33 Kim was here yesterday and while we can't make a $700 house pay we assured her that she could temporarily move in with us and not be on the street. She has no handle on who she owes and how much. I just don't get it because she saw how we paid bills and she has always been very independent..I think she can't accept the reality? Anyway she is going to call USDA and see if any other options. She is already in a foreclosure avoidance payment arrangement. I hate to encourage bankruptcy but if she is forclosed she will have trouble with credit anyway, and a federal debt can take tax returns, etc. for the rest of her life. I hope she will sit down with me and get her credit report today.
Going to get red tub for Christmas lights to be stored in.
Started a personal journal to go with my food journal. Including some I am grateful for and thoughts for the day. I hope I can be consistent in using it.

Jo-saw you just posted...Yes I need a way to reduce stress.
I forget to mention that my sister is asking me to side with her on what she thinks dad needs, but dad and my brother as caregiver should decide.

Good morning:
Well, talk about a role reversal--I am sitting here watching it SNOW outside! A lot of you are dealing with our typical rain! It's only about 1.5 inches, but that's enough to make me want to stay home---too many crazies out there driving on our roads coming home from Lake Tahoe after the holiday. Our DISH is cutting in and out--probably will have to hose it off at some point. I have been trying to watch the Rose Parade but it is cutting in and out due to the dish... my parents went on a bus trip to the Rose Parade one year. They got there a couple of days before the parade and got to meet with some of the float designers and hear about how they put the floats together--that would be amazing!
DH just woke up and only said, "I must have gotten 2 hours of sleep altogether due to my coughing." I said, "Good morning--why don't you try to go back to sleep?" He just shook his head. I have suggested that he consider trying to sleep so that his head is elevated and he told me that is uncomfortable....I had suggested that maybe he should go to the doctor and he has said, "no". I am telling you, I hope that this resolves soon--it's been going on since last Wednesday and I am reaching the end of my sympathetic listening. I am actually becoming silent when he says things because I know that, no matter what I say, it will not "go over" well. Oh well, moving on!

Lisa: I am SO sorry to read of DD losing her job! And now to hear about how you are helping her with her finances....so glad that she has you to turn to. My kids aren't old enough to be dealing with these things, but I am learning from you and Sue about the importance of helping out. Glad that you could have a nice cup of coffee to start the day though I SO agree with you....let the caregiver and your dad make the decisions! I would think that your brother (the caregiver) will ask you and DS if he wants some opinions and it's important to be there for that. Hugs to you! Carole: So nice to have this day off, right? Glad that you and Eden get some "girl" time! Might be a nice time to do some organizing while Eden occupies herself somehow for bits of time? I want to get back to my planner and putting things in there. Already looked at my calendar for the week--busy times trying to fit 5 days of work into 4 days. Oh well! We have Martin Luther King Monday off--Jan 16. Do you? Jan and Feb are the "holiday" months around here. I think that Eden's bday is in February, right? Hope that you are having a good day today!

Christine: Sounds like you needed at downtime yesterday--I now wish that I had done one day like that during my week off! Oh well, another day! So, how is the knee this morning? So glad that you are getting a second opinion for your own peace of mind. There is so much going on in there---sounds complicated! Hope that you can ride the bike. It seems like that might help with the flexibility too. We spent NYE at home watching a couple of movies. DH wasn't too crotchety at that point....just not happy. I kind of move on and do my own thing around it all Our run yesterday was good--it was cold, but felt good to be outside and it wasn't rainy so that always helps. Glad that I did that yesterday seeing the weather we have now.....thinking about doing spin class tonight (most likely will). Wow to mom's other knee! I have heard that it is so common to have to do the other one soon after the first. You have to be SO careful too with compensating for the pain and causing other problems. Hey, maybe your brother can take on this topic with her? Hope that you are having a good day at home today! Jo: So glad to hear that DS's plans changed and he was home. My DS wanted to go to a friend's last night, but I told him that he had to go after dinner with us Otherwise, he would have gone without batting an eye....yep, it's painful. I feel for you though with the struggle of Emilie and how DS feels about it all. Have you ever talked to him about it on his own and how it might offer some explanation to his friends before they come over? They are old enough to exercise compassion and some might actually learn from it? Just a thought....Wow to your meals! You really put a lot of love and care into them! Nice to have those traditions! Hope that DH is feeling a bit better soon. Will he go back to the doctor for a check up? How are you liking the Cookie podcasts? I have it bookmarked, but haven't listened yet.

Sue: Wow, you have your bag ready and are going to be back in the pool routine--good for you! I would think that this will help greatly with your recovery after surgery. Your dinner last night sounded wonderful! I just love crab---we mostly have Dungeness crab here from the west coast but it is so yummy! Good job staying on top of your tracking....you are entering the year with such a handle on things! So glad that the weather was such that Jason could get outside. I actually think that not being able to get outside might be triggering some of DH's anger with being sick. Wow, even your bills have a planner! You need to start your own blog/website! Hope that you have a good day today.
Jenny: How are you feeling? Are you getting some snow too? Hope that you are one the mend.
I am going to sign off and unload the diswasher, start some laundry, etc. Want to feel on top of some organization before tomorrow! Leftovers for dinner tonight--ham/bean soup, spaghetti, and Chicken Cacciatore. Then we will toss whatever is left and have a lot more room in the fridge! See you all later.

Jo...we are in our "warm up" now with cold temps coming soon....next week at this time we will be in the upper 20's!! Will say I'm glad it warm today since it's raining...don't really need or want any snow!!
Glad Steven stayed home and you enjoyed a nice family NYD!! I feel sure that as Steven gets older and realizes that Emilie is who she is the chaos will just be a part of her and he will be the big brother you long for him to be. I feel sure it's not anything against Emilie...he's a kid, he's not sure how to deal with her and all of her issues...once he's older and exposed to more of "life" and the issues of others it won't seem so "different"!!
I use a planner too...for me, seeing the bills actually on a calendar and seeing the dates approaching gives me more of a timeline and makes my OCD, overly organized brain go haywire!! I had most of my shopping done prior to Thanksgiving so I actually "paid off" most of Christmas last month...just a couple straggler stocking stuffers and last minute gifts that didn't amount to much $$$ I like that feeling. We should be in great shape by the time of my surgery when I'm only getting 60% STD. Since I carry insurance and have $100 flexible spending taken out each paycheck, it doesn't leave much!! I usually bring home enough to cover the mortgage plus the extra $250 we put on the mortgage each month but won't have any where near enough but I think if Jason gets just a little OT we will manage to come out on the other side fine!!
I gave up 2 nail appointments prior to my surgery and will not be paying that for the entire time I'm off...plus, will not have gas for the car or other "work related" expenses so I think we will actually be in better shape this time than last...definitely MUCH better shape than when I was off unexpectedly when I broke my wrist!

Lisa...nothing like a nice fresh brewed cup of coffee to start the day!! I actually enjoy two on the weekends and today was a "bonus" two cup day!! Yes...it is hard to see our kids struggle with $$$, all of you know how Sarah & Josh were not the best with finances and last year things fell apart on them....I helped them with a "planner" of their own and they had a pretty good year keeping things current and being better....we will sit down again sometime this month to make sure all is on track because we CAN NOT help them at all while I'm off....they have to get their shit together and make it on their own!! I will talk to them on Friday when we have our weekly pool time and set up a time to sit down and make sure all is well!
Hopefully Lisa, your DD will be open to you helping her get things in order and get back on her feet! Here's hoping too that something comes through with USDA option!! Oh no...please do NOT let yourself get stuck in the middle between DB & DS on your dad's care. DD chose DB as caregiver and you are right, it should be up to DD & DB how to handle things!! You need to just stay neutral!!
Gabrielle...I too am watching the Rose Parade....NYD is always low key for me, so it's been a tradition as long as I can remember! How cool your folks got to go to the parade and get the insight from float designers...that would be awesome!! Lots from my neck of the woods are actually out there now...Penn State is playing in the Rose Bowl so there is a lot of "We ARE...." chants going on! Made me laugh when Al Roker mentioned the chant....I have the parade paused right now...just watched the PSU float and Blue Band march through!!
LOL Gabrielle...your DH sounds like mine! I finally looked at him the last time he had a cold and told him "if you are not going to go to the doctor or try any of my suggestions to treat the symptoms...I'm done! Stop whining and go down stairs"!! Not sure he appreciated it, but after a while, I'm tired of listening to the "same old, same old"!

Gabrielle...if I wasn't off for my knee soon...our next holiday is Memorial Day!!! We don't get any of the winter holidays and only Jason gets Good Friday where he works...we get nothing over Easter time. That's why we often plan vacation in March some time to break up the long winter of no paid time off!!
Yes...good thing your rain yesterday Gabrielle...wouldn't want to be out in an inch plus of snow...too slippery!! What movies did you watch on NYE???
Speaking of movies...Collateral Beauty was a GREAT movie! Really makes you think about life, what's important, how you will let things effect & change you for good or bad. I loved it and will likely watch it again when it comes on Netflix of On Demand! Jason got a little lost in parts but still enjoyed it! He wants to watch it again too after we talked on the way home...he thinks things will make more sense now....
Yes...pool bag is packed and hanging on the chair with my pocketbook and coat!!! Can't forget it that way! I plan to ask at PT how long I have to wait before I can get back into the pool again after surgery. I know it will likely be several weeks until my incision heals but hopefully once that is done I can start to at least get in the pool and walk laps to keep things moving!! We'll see....I have my appointment with the PT for my pre-op info session on 1/16...pool is one of my top questions for him or her!!
Time for me to get my baked egg muffins going...laundry is washing now...all the dishes are done, crockpots put away and the counter is pretty clear except for the containers of cookies & treats. Got my lunch portioned out and ready for tomorrow already, just need to fill my lunchbox and track it!! Need to figure out what else we are having with the pork chops tonight too...guess I didn't think that far!! I'm sure for me it will just be a couple of steamer bags of veggies and Jason will make a baked potato or sweet potato!!
See you all later...
