Ginny, the magic loop is supposed to be a method whereby the hole in the middle closes up. I never make a loop even if the pattern instructs to do so, instead I always make all my "into the loop" stitches in the last chain from my hook and I've never had a problem with the hole closing so rather than go to youtube, which I also have to go to each time I attempt the ML, I just use this method. I'm sure that if I made an effort to use it I would get better at it but I'm basically lazy and use the tried and true. So you're our magic loop expert . It's nice to hear that you were able to go for a ride along your route and even had your "driver" so that you could take notes. It's nice to be prepared ahead of time. It does sound like you're going to have your hands full with all those children in one bus. I hope they will be well behaved ones I just started a pair of red "overalls" for the one cpk so will be working on that this evening. I managed to get a few things done in the cleaning and organizing dept despite the fact that dh was sleeping under the kitchen. Seems though that every time I try to be quiet something falls on the floor or a cupboard door bangs shut. Luckily that didn't happen today.

Ginny, it always shocks me too when I'm actually able to find something that I need at the moment. Congrats on having things so well organized. The only thing I always can find is my keys. After years of searching high and low for keys when I had to go to work or somewhere else I got a little key thingy and made it a point to always put the keys there. It actually worked for me! I think I got the key hanger after I visited my ds and ddil and found that they always had to search too and got into a panic when they couldn't find keys. That opened my eyes to the necessity of doing something to avoid that happening anymore.
I seem to have missed one of your posts. i accidentally just now got to page one somehow and you had one on the bottom of that page which I seem to have read part of but not all. Dh must have come in or something. That was the one in which you said you'd abandoned the cabbage patch stitch. And yes, unless you use a fine yarn and small hook it leaves larger holes than most people want for baby items just as the regular crossed stitch does.
And you said how different we all are....yep I'm the blabby, bossy one hahaha

Hello Ruth, Ginny, cj & phyl.
I had a lazy morning and stayed in bed later. In the afternoon I paid my Dr. a visit, the one who did my bladder surgery was checking up on me. He has a standing order at the lab.so that i can go in any time I suspect I have UTI. Which I do but as the last one became so toxic he wants me to call him and tell him I am on my way to the lab. So I am going to have to be very careful.
Ruth, it worries me that you went so long without treatment though there have been times when I went longer than I should have. I often start a book and don't finish it same goes for knitting or crochet patterns. At the moment I am reading a book I really like. It is not an audio book so I am not working on my blanket.
Ginny, I am glad you were able to drive your bus route with help from DH. Hopefully as you get to know the new kids everything will run smoothly. I am sure big Brothers & Big Sisters can put your yarn to good use.
Phyl, congratulations on your weight loss. I wonder if your hip pain is caused by bursitis. ( I think that's the name) I had that problem awhile ago and I was sent to therapy. It doesn't bother me as much now. But pains pop up somewhere else. That's old age.
cj, hope all is well with and that you will feel more energetic as the weather cools down. It was hot here this afternoon probably in the mid 90s.
Good night everyone.

Meg, it's good to see you as usual. I'm glad you got to sleep in a little today and that your doctor visit went well. Yes I don't know how long I had the UTI...if I had it from when my bladder started to be really painful in May or if that was just the IC and I got the infection later. Mostly you can tell if a UTI is getting bad because you get chills and fever but as we get older we don't get those symptoms and before we know it we're in big trouble as you were. So I'm truly thankful that didn't happen and I sure hope it doesn't happen to you again. Did they mention anything about test strip s you can use at home to test? If you feel as though you have symptoms though you shouldn't rely on the strip because that's what happened with me. They use the same strips at the clinic and my infection didn't show on their strip. The woman who was on your knitting thread back on WW board had that same thing happen to her and ended up in Icu and her doctor told her to get strips and test maybe once a week...I can't remember what the frequency was...but often because he said she might not have symptoms but if the strip was positive she needed to call him immediately. You can order the strips online. I think you can pretty much order just about anything online now. AndI might get some even though the strips didn't work this time. And if I have symptoms I'm definitely insisting on a micro exam of the urine not just have them do the strip thing.
I think probably the rest of the evening...well it's 11 now so the rest of the time I'm up, I'm going to read instead of working on these overalls. I do need to get busy and get more things made if I want to mail everything in 10 days. Between wanting to get these things made and getting the house in order it's keeping me busy enough without wasting time. I don't consider stopping and reading a waste of time though. It's relaxation. This afternoon I made a cute heart to sew on the front of the shirt that is in the set with matching pants, shirt and cardigan sweater.Shirt is plain white. Cardigan is white with edging made with the color I used for the pants. so the heart made with the pants yarn will be a nice addition.

God morning everyone,
Ruth, I am amazed at the work you are putting in to the out fits for the cabbage patch dolls. Their outfits sound beautiful and I am sure you DGDs will love them. They are lucky to have such a caring DGM. Watching and staying on top of these ICUs is hard because they can come on so suddenly and can be deadly if not treated promptly. I had one once before that kept me in the hospital for 2 days. I had not heard of the strips before. My DR. has me taking several meds. to prevent UTIs. One is a prescription and the others over the counter. I have a free day so I should get some crafting in. Though I am enjoying the book I am reading. If I have a book I am enjoying I don't want to put it down. It is a beautiful morning here but it will get hot this afternoon I am sure. I will check back later.

Good afternoon Meg. I'm with you on that. I found a book online that I hadn't read and have been reading it for the last couple hours.
I'm pretty sure the girls will love the clothes for the cpks. And I have lots of time on my hands so might as well use it to make something the kids will enjoy. The things we make to donate are appreciated too so I like to make sure I take time to do some of those also
Gotta do some cooking when dh wakes up. I'm going to make spaghetti sauce, macaroni salad with chicken mixed in, and some beef and peppers. I was thinking of making dh a pineapple upside down cake but it's pretty hot here today so not a good day for heating up the house with the oven on.
I am going to work on some more crocheting later though. I was just thinking of quitting reading and doing some now but then thought I'd stop in and see if anyone had posted today yet. I know there was no one here earlier.
The strips are handy because you can use one once in awhile and if positive you'd be able to call your doctor right away. You don't have to wait for symptoms. Of course if you do have symptoms and the strip shows negative you should still call your doctor because symptoms need to be dealt with regardless of what the strip says. It is medical standard that if their strip shows negative they do nothing further. That is just not a good idea.

hi, dr. rachel said I had a rotated hip. for some reason my hip does that. it stems from being whiplashed. think this is the worst it has ever been. it is always the right hip. I did have some bursities on my left hip once. I have been through pt so many time. I can do what they tell me at home and at the y. yes it is just doing it.
we were in and out of the car several times today. so hope I don't feel any worse tomorrow. I have been icing it and takin a arthristis pain med.
we did the parade of homes tour today. went through 8 homes. beautiful. some for us seem to be a little impractical for living. mostly how they were arranged. I did like a couple of shower that had a small area of glass tile under the shower head .that part has very small led lights in it that come on. looks like stars. also it is made so you don't need a shower door. (don remolded his br that way.) some of the tubs In some homes were so high I Would have a problem getting into them. the house I liked the best was the first one in a couple of neighborhoods from us.the basement was his man cave. very nicely done. you walk in and there is a little room with a standing coat rack and a small desk. like maybe sitting room. the kitchen (beautiful) and living room is the main floor. also a half bath. then you go upstairs and there is the master bed and bath. another small br.then a even smaller br. she is pregnant. this is a home for a couple who will only have 1-2 kids. not built for us oldies. also the laundry is upstairs. In my old age if I was going to build the master br and laundry would have to be on the main floor. we came home don says I will keep my house it is paid for. driving home he says a lot of tax money going out there. also it would be nice to know if they said what kind of payments have to be made. we have two houses to look at sunday. one is here In town the other is about 20 miles away.
the decor In most homes was very simple. course working with designers why not?phyl

Good morning all!
Ruth, you are our productive worker bee on the thread now.....going to town making all those cabbage patch clothes. Thanks for education on the test strips and UTI's. I know my mom got a bad UTI in her last 5 years, and I wondered how it got to be so bad with out her knowing it. Now I know.
Meg, guess you gave up on Danielle Steel and found a better book! Glad to hear that. Stay cool today.....think that will help your recovery. Bet. You cannot wait for fall, as your area has had a super hot and long summer.
Phyl- that house tour sure sounds neat! I pray that your hip calms down and that you are pain free soon. Getting in and out of the car is tough on a sore hip though.
Today is DH's birthday....we are heading out to run one errand and then to go for lunch out. Hoping this evening is sane. Yesterday was not sane.
Hope to stop in later.....CJ- hope your are enjoying your weekend Ginny

Hello Everyone - Hope you are all doing well today Ruth - If your husband like the Frosted Mini-Wheats and pumpkin flavored items, I do recommend looking for them at Target or online. Hope you are feeling better today. I love hearing about all the clothes you are making, they sound so cute. And the food you were going to cook yesterday sounded good too, hope you enjoyed it. Meg - I hope you are feeling well today and still enjoying your book and that you got some crafting in. Ginny - I'm glad you were able to drive you run so you'll be ready when school starts. I'm hoping you'll have good children on your bus and a good year. Part of my father's job was to put together the runs for several bus lots. I remember him and my mother sitting at the dining room table working them out. Phyl - That Parade of Homes tour sounds like it was interesting and enjoyable. I've always enjoyed going in home models - I haven't done that in years. I never wanted a washer/drying on the top floor because I always worried about a leak or overflow and water going through the ceiling to the floor below. I hope you are feeling well today and that your hip is not bad. I'm doing well today, just staying in to stay cool. The humidity is lower this weekend so it's nice. I made a Mocha Frappe yesterday that was low fat-low sugar and it was really good. Made me think about buying one of those Nutri-Bullets so I could make it more often, but I'll probably just keep using my blender. I want to make some more homemade bread this coming week so I've been looking for recipes that make a smaller loaf. I also plan to check out the Blog for Slow Stitching Sundays, I like to see what people have been doing. I don't usually like to recommend books to people, because we all have different tastes. But if you like a book that has a current day storyline and a historical storyline in the same book, I just finished one that I really enjoyed. The title is "The Writing Desk" by Rachel Hauck. It's a bit of a romance story, but also a story about family relationships. If you read this book and like it, then look for her other books that also have different storylines - The Wedding Dress, The Wedding Shop and The Wedding Chapel. Take care everyone!

Phyl, that house tour is something I would love to do. I love looking at home. I like seeing the videos they have now of homes that are for sale and I like the shows on HGTV showing people looking thru homes. I love looking at sketches of home plans. I would have loved to be an architect. And upstairs laundry wouldn't be anything I would want either. I, too, would be afraid of leaks. It would be handy to just be able to toss your clothes into the washer and put away clothes after they're dry but actually during the day most of us are on our main living floor and the bedrooms are usually upstairs so since laundry is done during the day it would be a lot of running up and down stairs to load and unload washer and dryer.
Ginny, happy bday to your dh. My dh's bday was last Sunday.
CJ, I'll have to look into that author and that book.I do love to read. You mocha frappe sounds delicious. My dh likes shakes made in the blender. We use frozen bananas, berries and a touch of milk or kefir and use the blender. It usually ends up being more like ice cream. I've thought of one of those nutri bullet type things but I think it would only add to my collection of gadgets that mostly just take up space. It's a little challenging getting the "shake" out of the blender but I'll stick with that.
Nice day here but very smoky from the fires up in Montana. YOu can even smell the smoke today.I hear that one of the areas where a whole lot of people have camped in Oregon to watch the eclipse has been evacuated because of fires. I don't know how much of the eclipse people here will be able to see due to smoke and forecast of partly cloudy and strangely we don't often have cloudy days here.MY dd is so excited about this eclipse so I do hope she'll be able to see it.My brother is camping in a place called Arco, Idaho to watch it.
Thank you for the kind comments about the cpk's clothing. I didn't get the finishing done as I had planned because I still have some items I want to make for them. This, however, is getting close to the point where I'm tired of doing them
Have a wonderful day everyone.

Happy Sunday everyone, Another lazy day so far. Devin is off with his other DGM, he will be back soon. I had planned on going to church this morning but I didn't get there. There is another service at 5 p.m. and I may try and go to that one.
Ruth, I have really had my nose in the book I am reading and it is not an audio book so no crafting. Lately I have been reading a lot of historical fiction. Yes I am dure you atre wanting to finish with making clothes for the cabbage patch kids and would like to move on to something else.
Ginny, your shake sounds delicious. I haven't made one for a very long time.
Phyl, I hope you ae having a pain free day. It is not much fun when your hip id stiff and sore.
cj, I hope you are having a fun and relaxing weekend.
I will try and check back later.

Good evening!
CJ- that mocha frappe sounds heavenly- how did you make it? Glad your humidity is lower and that the weather is a bit more tolerable. thanks for the recommendation for the book- I will add it to my "to read list" as the library.
Meg, I like historical fiction also! I hope that you were able to get to church. Glad to hear that you are enjoying a lazy day- as I think that is good for you not to overdo things.
Ruth-I figure you will be happy when this eclipse is over and done with! Admittedly it is a cool thing but for me not worth going to crazy over. How far is Montana from you that you are smelling the smoke from there? Get done what you can with the cabbage patch clothes- which your DGDsi are SO very lucky that you are able to make all these cool clothes! A belated happy birthday to your Dh.
today was a hectic day, as I expected. think Dh enjoyed his Bday- all the kids were here and the grandkids also. DGS insisted on going for tractor rides- so we put him in the tractor wagon and pulled him around for a few minutes....and he fell asleep! (We had a few outdoor chair cushions in the wagon). So cute. the little guy loves the tractor.
Phyl- hope you had a great day
Ginny

yes I've been thinking of that mocha frappe ever since you mentioned it earlier, CJ. Can you post the recipe?
Ginny, I'm glad to hear your dh had a good birthday. That's so funny about your dgs falling asleep while riding in the tractor wagon. I know he's a cutie
Well I think I pretty much have only a couple more things to make for these cpk's. I checked all that I had made earlier today, after I finished the skirt and red and white shirt to go with red and white overalls, and two of them do have four outfits and the last one has only 1 1/2 (needs a shirt to go with the variegated pastel overalls). I did make one pair of booties though so will make two more of those and see what happens after that. I'll probably do the little shirt tonight and decide on what other outfit to make this smallest cpk. I may also make a couple more pairs of undies. I think I have three pairs made but they need a lot of those. I was thinking about hats but decided against it. I'll think more about it later. Cpks sure do have weird looking feet. After the shirt and one more outfit though, at least I feel that if I quit making them things now they would still be all set for a lot of doll playing.I may make each of these dolls a drawstring sleeper. REmember those from when our kids were babies...well not Ginny's...hers are too young but my dh used to call them the "sweet pea" outfit. Remember sweetpea with Popeye? They quit making them with drawstrings...too dangerous...and put elastic in but I don't think they have them at all anymore. It sure was easier to change a baby in the night with one of those nighties on than with these things you have to take their little legs out of the get to the diaper.
Woman online sells cpk outfits for $16.99. Mine are as good as hers.
Have a great night and get a good rest. I'll stop in later to see if Meg posts again
