I looked here earlier but didn't see anyone. Then I went and did a little work
Ginny, I'm glad the first day went well and it seems that the children you have are good ones. Yes you must check that site. It's a rule that if there's a sale you have to buy something to add to your crafting supplies esp if they are pretty and regardless of the fact that you may already have plenty. Yes there are some mean and vicious people in the word. It's best to just ignore them if you can.I never was on those threads on the old board where they fought about politics but I did receive an email from one woman warning me about another. They apparently had a history.I actually was already friends with the woman she warned me about and still am and what was said in the email wasn't not correct which is how gossip usually works
CJ, I hope everything works out on your car. I used to have a car that when it rained it leaked into the trunk. My dh finally drilled a hole in the trunk floor to that it could drain out. Sometimes the water even went into the floor in the back seat. We do have a two car garage but don't keep our cars in it.This is a good time of year to buy a new car because the 17 models are being reduced in price for end of the year sales but if you're not thinking of getting a new one this year I hope your car will make it till next year at this time so you can get a good price
Ginny, my company gets here on Saturday and will stay 10 days. Two of the days they will be visiting a town that has a hot spring and will go on to Yellowstone. so at least one of the nights they will been spending elsewhere. My cousin had said he might be in this area this month too but I haven't heard from him.I wouldn't want to take the time away from seeing my ds and dgd to see my cousin so that worked out well.
I'll do a little more cleaning and organizing today then some crafting. I didn't get to any yesterday.

Good morning!!!
gee, it was quiet here....although for a over loaded schedule its a little easier to respond to only one or two posts.
CJ- i checked out your fabrics, which are very very pretty. I hope that you got time to play with the new machine and that lovely fabric. Were you able to sign up for the class?
Ruth, nice that your company will be with you but away for a short while too. Were you able to find another "favorite" meal for DGD's birthday?
GOt some crocheting done last night....was. Hoping to sew this am but the grandkids are unexpectedly here. So, its baby sitting time for me. Route was ok.....slowly getting back to the swing of things.

Good morning Ginny and all who come in later.
CJ, yes those are pretty fabrics.
I did get some crocheting done last night. I really don't like that this Herrschner yarn has so many knots that have to be cut out. Close to the end of the first skein there was one then there was the joining the new skein and right away just a few inches apart were two knots so more joining was needed. When I bought a kit with this yarn in it I sent an email to Herrschner and mentioned that I was afraid I was going to run out of yarn due to all the knots that needed cutting and the lengths needed then to join. That happened with two kits and they sent me new yarn and said if I found that I needed more to let them know. So they're good about replacing it. I won't bother complaining about this yarn because I have a lot and it's not a kit but I do have several more kits that probably will have the same problem. The other problem I've been having is I keep missing one of the two double crochets in the shell and having to rip out. I didn't have this problem when doing the doll blanket but with this one I am kind of doing it mindlessly and not paying attention like I should.
Looks like the hurricane will miss land here in US but will cause bad weather clear into the midwest. I'm glad ds and dgd are coming on Sat so they miss the bad weather so their plane won't be delayed due to that weather.
Going out in a few to buy last minute groceries. No I haven't found another favorite meal but I'll find out when they get here. Then if needed I'll go out while they're away sight seeing and buy what's needed if I don't have it here.
So see you all later
Oh, Ginny, I did come in here a few times last evening but didn't want to add to the posts because I do think that when people are busy they don't have time to read a lot of them

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Ruth - I bet you are getting excited about your family coming soon, I hope you have a wonderful time with them. Your new project sounds challenging with the yarn problems. I started a few projects with yarns I didn't like and ended up never finishing them. Ginny - Hope you enjoy the grandkids today, I bet they love to be with you. I'm glad to hear the route is O.K., I guess it takes a bit to learn the kids and the stops. Glad you were able to do some crocheting. Meg and Phyl - Hope you are doing well and doing some crafting. I did try the new machine yesterday and was a little bit frustrated with free motion quilting. I really don't think this is my "thing", at least on a home sewing machine. I enjoyed doing it on the big longarm at the shop, but every time I try it at home I just have a bunch of problems. I enjoy using the walking foot, so I may have to accept that I should use that to quilt my quilts at home and for larger quilts and ones I'd like to freemotion that I should rent the machine at the shop. I'm still thinking about the class. After my practice yesterday, I'm not sure I want to take it. I think I just need to practice at home more. I also finished putting 2 borders on a quilt top I finished last month, so it was nice to get that done. And I cut the fabric for the small gingham quilt I want to make, so I hope to sew that together in the next few days. I bought some Cross Stitch magazines today. I love to look at the designs and final pieces even though I don't think I'd want to do a big project of that kind. And I bought the magazine "Quilt Sampler" that comes out twice a year. This is the Fall/Winter one and they tour about 10 shops around the country with pictures and each shop provides a pattern. It's fun to see the different shops in the USA. Take care everyone!

CJ, actually the pattern is very simple so I don't know why I'm messing up on it.
YOur magazines sound very interesting and I'm sure it's fun looking at pictures of really nice quilts. I'm sorry to hear you're getting frustrated with free motion quilting. I know I would also. It sounds like renting the long arm is really the best idea. If you're like me, and it actually sounds as though we're alike in many things, you hate the idea of having to practice for an extended period of time before becoming proficient. When I want to do something I want to do it now not wait until I get some experience. IN crocheting too I had to give up on I think it was a scarf. I just couldn't get it to work. I'm getting better at it but I took it slow in going to more complicated items. Doing all the crocheting I've done for the last two years has really helped more than I every expected.
Meg and Phyl, are you two doing ok?
Now they're saying the hurricane will go up the middle of Florida. You just never know with weather what really will happen. I'd bet some of the effects of this hurricane will cause bad weather for both CJ and Ginny also.
So we went out shopping today and took the Good Will stuff so now I think I'll just take it easy the rest of the evening and crochet, read and watch tv. I'll finish up all I want to finish tomorrow and dh will help.

Good evening!
CJ- well I would have to say you are "back" from your creative drought! Its so much fun to look at magazines and get ideas and inspiration. Its absolutely amazing to see t he endless quilt designs that there are! If you do not mind, what are the difficulties you are having with using a home machine to quilt? Are you using a pattern or random stipple? I wonder if asking at the quilt shop that you bought the machine would help give you ways to make it easier for you to use.
Ruth, Indeed, that stinks about the yarn being all knotty! Think my DSIL has complained about some of the quality of what Hershcnerrs sells,i cannot comment as I have not bought from them in years. SOmetimes i crochet and my head is just not in it- and then I put the hook down and come back another day. In your case it sounds like the darn yarn is at fault.
THis hurricane is confusing....and I am fearful for our family in Florida.
Busy day babysitting and work. I chose to finish my book this evening instead of crocheting. I would not recommend this book. Awkward to read.
Have a great evening ginny

Good morning!
Busy morning for me as today I do laundry- in addition to all the other junk I do. I snuck out this am to the library, to return the somewhat dreadful book.....and take out another book or two. Got one book that I have been wanting to read and ordered another one (which must be obtained from another library).
No crafting last night- but sometime this am, I will get a pot of chili in the crockpot and settle in to some crocheting tonight.
Hi To Phyl, Meg, CJ and. Ruth Ginny

Good morning Ginny and all who come in later. It's a cool morning but is to get warmer later and 90's next couple days. Today I'll put the finishing touches on my house, dh will help. I hope I don't forget anything but if I do it won't be a disaster. I want to cool tomorrow's dinner today so that it can just be reheated tomorrow evening. Ginny your chili sounds good. The biggest problem I have is figuring out things to make for meals.
I did get in some crocheting last evening.
I wonder where Meg is. I don't think she's been in for a few days now. I hope she's ok.

Hello Crafters Ginny - I'm glad you were able to get some books that you want to read. I try to be careful with books I buy for my Kindle, since once I've bought them they are mine! I read reviews on Amazon and Goodreads before I buy things. I hope that your family in FL will be O.K., this storm looks so bad and it sounds like the after effects will be as bad as the storm. The problem I was having with the machine was when I was trying some stippling. I don't have good control moving around the quilt so my stitches were all over the place and different lengths. I think I do better stitching over a pattern or in straight lines. I know a lot of it is practice, but like Ruth I'm impatient and don't want to practice free motion quilting for hours and hours. After I practice some more I may ask the owner of the shop where I bought the machine if she would give me some private lessons. Ruth - Sounds like everything is just about ready for your family to arrive, I'm sure you're excited. Glad you had some time to crochet too. Hope the heat isn't too bad the next few days. Meg and Phyl - Hope you are both doing well and getting in some crafting. I went to JoAnn fabrics today and bought some backing fabric for the gingham quilt - it's a pretty all over Fall design. I also bought a few other pieces of fabric to do some other projects with. Mostly everything was on sale and I had an additional 25% off coupon. So that was nice. Take care everyone!

CJ, I think that private lessons with the shop owner, if she is proficient at using this machine, would be a really good thing to do. And the fabric you bought sounds really pretty. With a coupon and a sale you can't go wrong.
Yes I'm excited about them coming. DS emailed today and they're excited also. I keep taking breaks and then going back to do little last minute things. I have almost all of my list for today done.I think dh is excited too because he seems "hyper".
I hope you all have a great day.
I'm concerned about Meg. I know Phyl posts on other threads on over 60's but I haven't seen Meg's name anywhere

Good evening!
Indeed, I am also concerned about Meg, I will email her later on.
Ruth, I often wondered if good friends could (or should) just exchange favorite recipes and make the others reicipes for a month just to shake things up! Indeed, we all suffer from making the same thing....and boredom can set in. I do get Taste of Home magazine, and try to get inspiration from there. Sometimes I am lucky, sometimes not. Glad that Dh is helping get ready for company. If you are not always set up for someone to stay over, (as in a dedicated guest area that is always set Up) its a lot of work.

Last time I had company one of my friends from the old board suggested oven stew but it's too hot for oven or stew right now. I think you're right about the recipe thing. One of the things I worry about though is that people won't care for the food I make because I'm so used to making it spicy and garlicky. I know ds likes spicy things but I'm not sure about dgd. I know my ddil is pretty creative in trying new foods and dishes so I guess I shouldn't worry. For tomorrow I'm going to make burritoes and have corn chips and dip and/or salsa to dip the chips in. I think for Sunday meatball sandwiches will be a good thing. One day will be spaghetti with meat sauce and another pork tenderloin with mashed potato and veggie. I want to make a chicken dish of some kind but forgot to buy chicken yesterday so will have to wait on that till after I go out shopping. When dgd wants to make her biscuits I'll make some sausage gravy and we'll have breakfast for dinner. So only about five other days for dinners and then there's lunches. Normally dh and I don't have an actual "lunch". I maybe have yogurt, he has something like toast with pb or bagels and cream cheese in the middle of the day. I make curry dishes for dh and I but don't know if ds and dgd like that. Guess I'll just ask them tomorrow what they like to eat.
I couple people on an over 60's thread asked me for recipes but actually I don't use recipes. Or if I use a recipe as a guide I always add and subtract things and I never measure so I can't tell anyone how much of something I put in. I do " a little of this and a little of that"
They got the box I mailed the other day with the cabbage patch dolls and clothes and the little girl's bday presents including the cupcake purse that she loved. Ds and ddil both sent me messages about how much all the three younger girls liked the dolls and that they've been playing with them all day and changing their clothes. I guess they took a day off from schooling so that they could spend the time together before ds and dgd left to come here.

So sorry, Ds came up to chat and he had a rough day.
So Ruth, what have you decided to make for meals? I know one of my favorite company meals is chicken pot pie ( its also a favorite food of mine too( cause it allows me to make it a day early...and tastes amazizng. Seeing your family will be so nice for you and Dh!
CJ- agreed with Ruth, go to the LQS and ask for another lesson. But I would add this....my first attempt at random stipple and I said I would never to it again. It was awful, just terrible. then for some reason, I watched a few more you tubes, and got it back in my fool head to try again. Watched a few more videos.....I know you have the cotton gloves, and they sell silicone spray for the bed of the machine to facilitate gliding. (Or you can buy silicone sheets to put between the bed and the fabric. Then, and this sounds strange- put on some really good music that you get into- perhaps have a glass of wine and make sure you are sitting comfortably. Do not hunch up your shoulders...and give it a try again(on a scrap quilt). I got to the point where I did not need the wine- just some good music to distress me....and it started to flow. Of course there will be difficulties with all the fabric in the throat of the machine- but for now you are just experimenting. I found the Missouri Star quilting video great, because she does NOT create a perfect stipple. But does well enough. It was that less than perfect video that gave me the courage. You can do it!!!! Congrats on the new fabric too.
This book came recommended by a friend and the librarian. Not a bad story, just not my style of writing. It was way too "literary". So glad I got my hands on the next Beverly Lewis book, I need something easy this time.
Everyone I know in Florida (both coasts) and my friend outside Hilton Head SC is staying and not evacuating. Guess I do not blame them, but I think they are nuts. then of course I think they are nuts for living there.
Gonna go bring in my outside cat and watch TV with Dh...work on my crocheting a bit.
Have a great evening/ Hi to Meg and Phyl.....hope both are ok. Ginny

Ruth, how nice that your package was appreciated so much! You put a ton of time into those cp clothes.....it must make you smile to think of the girls playing with the clothes. Sounds like you have a good meal plan. Dh and I are like you, not all days do we make a real lunch. But soup would work well for company. (Just an idea). Indeed, I do not always use recipes either. Hey, I have an awesome recipe for Teryaki turkey burgers that most like - would be happy to share with you.
Time to get the silly cat in G

Hello everyone,
Sorry for not posting. I have been reading a lot and having a lazy week, mostly staying home. Today I went to my Knit Wits and it was good to get out of the house. A new lady to the GP. sat next to me and she was knitting socks which looked good. I have never knit socks though I am sure I could if I would just give it a try. Someone baked a carrot cake and brought it to share and of course I couldn't resist home made carrot cake. I don't bake very often and of course it is too hot in the summer ti have the oven on. It has been cooler this week with temps. in the 80s. I have been following Irma. Sounds like Florida is really going to get hit. Last time I talked to DGD was Thur. morning and she and her DH were trying to decide whether they should leave. I just got a call from them and they are now in Georgia and it will take them another couple of hours to get to . There are so many cars on the road so traffic is slow.
Ginny, have you heard from your relatives in Florida? It us a good time to hope and pray for all the people who are in the path of this hurricane.
Ruth, I hope you have a great time when your guests arrive. I am sure you will have a great time with your DGD . I am so glad your other DGDs love their CP doll out fits and they were able to get together and have an enjoyable time playing at changing outfits.
cj, I hope you are having a great time exploring what you can do with your new machine.
Phyl, I hope all is well with you and that your hip is not as sore.
Keep well and take care.
