Meg, it's great to hear from you. We don't want to put pressure on you but we worry when you aren't here. I'm glad you've been taking it easy and getting some rest. I make a great carrot cake. Dh loves it and ,well, so do I but it's packed with calories and sugar. I probably have mentioned that dh tried to convince the diabetic educator that it's a healthy food because it has so many veggies...the carrots...and fruit. It didn't work. She, of course didn't fall for that at all.I'm glad you enjoyed knitwits today and I hope you enjoyed the cake.
Yes it was great to hear that the girls all loved the dolls and Stephanie loved her presents. The others liked what I sent them too. you remember I send a little thing for everyone. Nice thing is that the girls take care of their things. I would never have done all that work for the grandaughters that live here when they were little. They never took care of anything so it would have been a waste of time and effort.
Ginny, my dh won't eat ground turkey but thanks for the offer of the recipe. It does sound very good to me. Do you have others to share that don't have ground turkey? The chicken pot pie sounds really good. Maybe after I get the chicken I'm planning on buying I will make one of those except I don't know if my ds still strongly dislikes peas or not and a chicken pot pie has to have peas. I'll have to ask him about that. Maybe I can put in a different veggie. I've seen some made with broccoli. I'll have to think about that one. I know he likes broccoli but my dh will think it's strange but I bet he'd try it and probably like it. If it's cool enough I'll make a roasted chicken and homemade mac and cheese. In fact I'll roast two chickens and make chicken salad with the leftovers to have for a lunch.I do think that dgd will have suggestions. Probably things she makes at home while helping her mother. I don't know if I'll get here every day while they're here. It depends on what they're doing and if I'm doing it with them so don't worry if I'm not here. They'll be gone a couple days so I for sure will be here then and I think they will probably go other places too just not overnight but then while they're gone I'll have a chance to catch up with all of you

good morning, sounds like everybody is busy. cj someone once told me to not worry about stitches when practicing free motion. get the feel of moving the fabric around first. try to find a comfortable speed you can control first. the faster you go, I think it is the bigger your stiches are. I am not good at free motion either. every now and then I will practice it. now if you had flo at your shop she could teach you in no time to free motion. she works for the brother dealer In mn. she is good at everything with machines. one day I am going to take my brother up there and have her go over it with me.
we had a good time the quilt show yesterday. I did buy some half yard fabrics. one was with stones and another with bricks and 2-or 3 with trees. sometimes I think I might need a piece and don't have it In that pattern.
I did stop at the primrose lane vendor. told her I wanted to do the hole in the barn door In red. she thought that would be neat. so got the pearl type threads. almost bought the grandpa's barns pattern .decided I did not want to do that much work. did buy the well dressed snowman wall hanging. now when to get these patterns traced and start working on them.
now when you go to these shows you will see ladies puling some type of cart behind them little two wheel type things.. now two ladies had the most clever idea. they took the golf clubs out the golf bags and use them. when they were visiting vendors they had the bags up against something so people could get by and not trip over them. so many people pull those little carts and just doesn't watch where they are going and who they might hit. one lady had a nice little cart. she told me she was always against having a cart. her physical condition got so she had to have one. the one she had she could wheel or carry. I am not against carts. never know when I may needone someday. just wish some women would be more careful wheeling them around..
then course you get these women who 3-4 stand In the middle of the alise talking and don't move so you can go around them.
I did find a dealer with bobbins for my eversewn machine.yippee. the gal whos started this quilt expro years ago is dying of cancer. she is only in her 60's. seemed strange not to see her walking around. she has a tv program In the Midwest called sewing with nancy. she does quilting and sewing. she had a big warehouse called nancy's notions. she fought bell pasleys. bone and breast cancer. now it is back. darn it. her name is nancy ziemmen. not sure if the program went to your areas. she also has been on create tv. she did a lot for sewing and quilting.
I should be cleaning today. maybe. enjoy your Saturday. phyl

Phyl, I've watched Nancy's shows and video's. I didn't know she had cancer. How sad!!
Yes here in the stores people stand and block the aisle completely oblivious to people who want to get by.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Ruth - Your planned meals sound great, I'm sure everyone will enjoy them or find something to eat. It's so sweet to hear that the girls loved the CP clothes and were playing with them. Ginny - Hope you are enjoying some rest this weekend and get to read your book. I hope things will get better for you DS. Meg - I'm glad to hear you are doing well and went to your group and enjoyed that piece of Carrot Cake - we have to treat ourselves sometimes. I've always thought it would be neat to knit some socks, but I'm not sure I'm up to that level. Phyl - Glad to hear you enjoyed the quilt show and that you were able to shop at the Primose Lane booth - I love their stuff. That fabric sounds good too, it's really interesting they way they have printed these architectural/nature prints. I read about Nancy Zieman's cancer diagnosis - so very sad. Here's a link to her goodbye post if anyone would like to read it: www.nancyzieman.com/blog/quilting-2/a-personal-note-from-nancy/She really gave a lot of her life to world of sewing and quilting. I haven't done any crafting today, just looking through some magazines and books, and on the Internet, so I'm counting that. Take care everyone!

Good afternoon, Meg, well we were worried about you and I was about to email you....and here you are! Glad you are ok, just feeling a bit lazy. Nothing wrong with that. Will DGD and her DH be staying in Georgia or are they going further north? Glad they are safe, for some reason I thought they were in the St Petersburg area, which seems to be where Irma will strike. So good to know she and her Dh are safe. My mom, who did knit well, used to make socks, even ties for my dad.GUess they are not that hard- but what a labor of love. Are you going to give knitting socks a try? t
Thanks for asking about my family. Everyone I know in the south is not evacuating. My friend in SC (Hilton head area) has put up storm shutters and sand bagged around her garage to keep water out. Think she is in low land. My SIL and BIL are 7 miles inland, on high ground- they are well prepared, have a generator and all supplies, plus hurricane shutters etc.....They are near Tampa- but again I think (hope and pray) they are ok. My 2 nutty cousins and aunt are a bit further south and are on the water, they are staying too. they are not dumb, I hope they are making all the preparations to stay safe. Not sure which but my 97 year old aunt will be staying with one of them.
Dropped my flute off today for an overhaul (check over) because it has problems with some keys. Does that count as crafting? Ha ha ha I will crochet later on....so I will get some time in crafting today.
HI to CJ, Ruth and Phyl Ginny

Happy Saturday everyone,
Ruth, enjoy your company and don't worry about posting if you don't have time. We will still be here after they leave. Visiting with your family is more important. Roast chicken sounds good. I like roast chicken instead of turkey of course it has to be stuffed.
Phyl, good to see that you are out and about enjoying the quilt shows and learning something new. We are never too old to learn.
cj, Pity that you and Phyl didn't live closer so that you could check out all the quilt shows together.
Ginny, hope all is well with you and that you are having relaxing weekend. Have you heard from your relatives in Florida ?I have been following the Hurricane news, DGD and her DH decided to leave on Friday morning and drove to Georgia where his parents live. I had a phone call from late last night when they had just arrived. They said there was no gas at any of the gas stations along the way. They had done a good job of planning and left with a full gas tank plus they had 2 gas cans filled. The trip to Georgia took them much longer than it usually does. Of course Irma will also touch Georgia but they will be in land. I hope all your friends and family in Florida will be safe. I have been praying a lot.
Take care everyone

Good evening! Ruth, my son in law hates peas, so I leave them out when he is here. Agreed, any green vegetable that will hold its shape would be fine- green beans, Lima beans, broccoli...etc.... Enjoy your company!!!
Phyl- indeed its a pain when others hog up the aisles. And I am glad you found the bobbins you need for your machine. Thanks for the sad news on Nancy Nieman. I enjoyed watching "sewing with Nancy". good show.
CJ- of course looking through magazines , books and the internet counts as crafting!!!
Gonna go check on the storm....hope everyone has a great evening Ginny

WEll my company is in bed for the night even though it's not quite 9. They live in eastern time and are used to going to be early too so here I am.
Ginny and Meg, I hope all your family members are safe. Meg, I'm glad your dgd went up to Georgia. I have cousins in Ft Meyers. I haven't seen nor heard from then since my dgm's 100th birthday which was back in 1986. ONly reason I have to think they're still there is an address I found for them online.
Yes I loved Nancy's show. Her illness and impending death is a great loss to all crafters.
I took my yarn and hook to the airport with me but they were already coming out when we got there and now I've left it upstairs so I'll just read on my computer.
Ginny, my ddil play the flute too. I've never heard her play it though. I'll have to ask my ds tomorrow if she still does.
Ginny, enjoy your Sunday before you have to go back to work again. I hope the rest of you enjoy yours also

Good morning! Well, Ruth, that is good news that you did not have to wait for your DS and DGD to leave the airport. Good that you did not have to wait, but bad that you did not get some crochet time in. Hope that this is a wonderful week of reconnecting and sharing for you.
I do hope to have most of today off to relax before a full week of work. Let's see if Dh ( who likes to be very busy) will allow me that luxury. I am going to church this am and then will have to run to the food store for a few items.
I have heard from all my loved ones regarding the storm. My SIL ( a few miles west of Tampa) said that my BIL did a quick ride in their development and that MOST of the homes were not boarded up and showed no signs of preparing for a storm like this. Wow.....my BIL and SIL are on high ground, and do have storm shutters up and a generator. they have done al they can, and Lord willing, should be fine. My cousins, the one took my aunt and crossed to state to Daytona (his wife has family there)- where it will be bad, but not as severe as the Tampa area. My other cousin is staying .....he claims his house should be ok.
And my friend in SC should be breathing a sigh of relief- having dodged the worst of this monster.
Have a great day! Ginny
Hope everyone has a good Sunday.

Just blabby old me here....Ruth, thought of 3 more meal ideas. What about pulled pork sandwiches (great in a crock pot ), Italian beef sandwiches (also good on a crock pot), French onion soup casserole or, weight watchers shepherds pie (an awesome recipe!). Guess that is 4 recipes....I cannot count.
CJ- thinking of you....as it does look like you and I will be spared the wrath of Irma. G

Thanks again for the meal suggestions. I do hope you're able to have a peaceful relaxing day. I'm fortunate that my dh also likes to rest at home nowdays and doesn't like to stay busy but I think that after the guests leave we'll be busy getting some things done before winter. I won't like being busy but I'll like the results.
ds and dgd are off visiting the quilting aunt. I don't know when they'll be home but I'll make up some hamburger patties for the freezer so that if they're hungry when they get home there will be something quick to fix.
Dh and I were looking for one of the things we wanted to give dgd for her birthday. He insisted I had it but I insisted that he hadn't given it to me. We searched all thru my gift stashes then I realized where it was. I was wrong...he did give it to me. I told him "well for the first time, you were right". We both laughed.
Have a great day everyone. I'm going to go make those patties and maybe some mac salad

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today I hope that all of you with family in Florida will find that they all make it safely through the hurricane. Ruth - I'm glad your family made it there O.K., I'm sure you'll enjoy the time with them. Ginny - Hope you get some rest today. Meg and Phyl - Hope you are getting in some crafting. I haven't done any crafting today, but I did look at my yarn. I'd like to make another crocheted granny square blanket. I just make one large granny square, so I wanted to find some soft baby yarn to use. I have some in lilac that is nice, so I might use that. Take care everyone!

Hello everyone, I am just having a quiet Sunday at home. Last evening I did the last 2 rows on my b/blanket which I started ages ago. I started doing a border and didn't get very far with it. I am not very good at borders. Something else for me to learn to do better. I did take a class once to learn borders but I didn't learn anything and it was waste of money. So no more classes there are always people in my Knit Wits GP who can help me and of course there is UTube. I am keeping an eye on Irma. DGD is in Georgia but I think Irma is following them there. I think DGD would have been better coming home. I do hope their home doesn't suffer too much damage.
Ruth, I am glad you are enjoying your company and fixing special meals. How old is your DGD? I am sure you are enjoying having her there with you.
Ginny, I hope your family in Florida come through the storm safely. Cooking is an art and so is crafting so you could say that cooking is crafting.
cj, making an afghan crocheting one large granny SQ is a good idea then you don't have to join all the small granny SQs. I made several large granny SQ afghans. I have also made some ones for b/blankets.
Phyl, I am glad you enjoyed the show and found the bobbins that you need.
Now I am off to read. Enjoy your evening.

Meg, my dgd will be 16 on the 25th of Sept so very soon. Borders are not easy and take some experimenting to get them to not bunch up They say put three stitches in each corner but I've found that's not usually enough. If I can I put in two of whatever stitch I'm using...usually a dc...the chain one or two and make two more then keep going to the next corner. If it fits in with the pattern ok that is. Sometimes it doesn't. I hope your grandaughter is in a safe spot. I see the Ga governor discontinued the mandatory evacuation for Savannah
CJ, I love doing the afgans that are made with just one large granny square. You can vary the center of the square so you have variety but the rest is so nice and easy to make
