Good morning, Ruth, I really like the idea of different cowl patterns- taking on a challenge is so nice and gives you an opportunity to show off your talent at crocheting. It also makes each cowl a very individualized gift- also nice. There are so many patterns out there and you will pick out really nice ones, I am sure. For me, I have to go with tried and true, not having the time to take on new patterns and I am not that good with a crochet hook.
Got another row done on the baby afghan last nignt. Off to work Ginny

Ginny, when I was still working I didn't have time either. Now I have lots of time. Back then, too, my crocheting skills were not good. Since then but especially in the last 5 or so years I've had a lot of proctice.there's still a lot I don't know.I'm glad to hear you got another row done on your baby blanket. I got a few rows done on my cowl but they're very short rows. Most of last evening was spent watching some tv with dh. There are about three programs dh records and we watch them in the cold weather while "hibernating"
CJ, Meg and Phyl, I hope you are all having a good day.Meg, will you be going to Knitwits today?

Hello everyone, It has been a week of this and that and trying to get a little order around here. I have decided in order to get rid of all the paper that has names and account numbers ect., I am going to sorted out and take it to a company that does shredding. A lot of papers are reports and bank statements and that I have had to save for my DD. I do throw out paper as it comes in but I just can't seem to get ahead of it. I have been working on my afghan but I till have a long way to go. Today I went to Knit Wits and worked on a cap that I started awhile back. This evening I have been looking at patterns on the net. I would like to find a scarf or cowl pattern to make for myself. I did find a throw pattern that I liked so I made a copy and may try it one of these days. It has been over cast here for a couple of days and we expect 2 storms in the next day or so. They are preparing for snow up in the Sierras. So that will make the skiers happy.
Ginny, I hope you find a cowl pattern you like. I guess we must all be preparing for colder weather. Like you I don't want anything too difficult. I knit better than I crochet though I have been crocheting more recently. I am sure you are excited about the new baby and I am sure the b/blanket will be beautiful. I am inclined to repeat patterns if I like them. I have a couple of patterns that I know by heart.
Ruth, I am sure you turn out some beautiful work. I am learning to crochet and I keep trying new stitches. I like the waffle pattern and have made a few b/blankets using it. I think I might make a big one for myself. I think they would be nice and warm. I have one that I made baby size but it is a wee bit too heavy for a baby do I have it sitting on my bed about where my feet are. If my feet are cold I can't sleep.
cj, That was nice of you to take your brother and his wife out to lunch to celebrate his retirement. I love fish and crab cakes sound good to me. As the weather gets colder I am sure you will be glad to stay home and keep busy quilting. I have lots of days when I don't feel like crocheting or knitting.
Phyl. I hope all is well with you and that you are keeping busy.
Good night .
Now it is time to get ready for bed and read myself to sleep.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Meg - I'm glad you were able to your group and that you're working on your afghan. I did a lot of paper decluttering a few years ago - nobody would believe how much I had. Fortunately my brother let me bring a lot of it to his house and we burned it in a metal barrel outside. The rest of it I shredded myself, after investing in a heavy duty shredder. Now I'm careful to shred my junk mail every day and I go through my bill and bank paperwork periodically and shred it too. Ruth - I'm glad to hear you are getting more of your cowls. Hope your weather is nice this weekend. Ginny - Glad you got some work in on your afghan. Hope you get some relaxing time this weekend. Phyl - Hope you are doing well and getting in some crafting. After talking about how much I enjoyed my lunch, I got sick that night and I think it was food poisoning. I'm not sure if it was the food I ate at lunch, or something afterwards. I felt better the next day and I've been eating light since then. I haven't been able to get back to my hand quilting, but hope to do some more this weekend. Take care everyone!

OH CJ, I'm so sorry to hear that you were sick. I'm glad you feel better now and it's a great idea to eat light for a few days. As for paper work luckily we have this woodstove so we burn all our paper work that we don't want others to see in that. For just plain old junk mail i tear our name and address off of it and throw the junk part in the garbage and throw the address in with stuff to be burned
It's a very nasty looking day here today. It's cold and overcast and looks like it will snow so no nice weather this weekend but personally I don't mind. I'm sure other people aren't happy. Last year we had a very warm November.
Meg, I'm glad you got to your group. And yes afgans take awhile to make. I hope you find a scarf or cowl you like. Will you be knitting it since you like knitting better? Do you find that knitting is easier on your hands too? When I'm crocheting I have always held my crochet hook like a pencil and experts say that's not a good way to hole because it's hard on the wrist. I've tried to switch but haven't tried hard enough and haven't been able to switch yet.But luckily my wrists don't hurt anyway. Sometimes both knitting and crocheting are hard on my thumb
Ginny, I can't believe it's another weekend already but I'm glad you have a couple days off. I hope you will be able to do some really enjoyable things.
I didn't get any crocheting done last evening or all day yesterday actually. I got my library site fixed and my Robin Cook book was available to I ended up reading instead of crocheting. All my favorite authors are getting up in years and some have died. Cook is in 70's so I wonder how long he will continue to write. I don't really think this current book is as good as a couple others of his that I've read but he's come a long way since Coma.
Well guess I'll get started on crocheting. Can't remember what else I need to do today except to make dh some banana, pineapple fritters..I've never made fritters before so we'll see how this goes. It was his idea.

Happy Saturday all!!!
CJ- so sorry to hear that you most likely had food poisoning. I am really glad you are feeling better and hope that with each day you improve. Were you able to figure out what might have bothered your system like that? It would be nice if you could return to your handquilting, i know that is something you wanted to take on. Recently in an article on craftsy they spoke of the strengths and virtues of hand quilting- many many find it enjoyable.
Ruth, my local library’s web site has a feature in which you can find an author and then find others who write like him or her using their search engine. Indeed its so disappointing when a good author either passes or loses their skill. It sure does happen. GLad you were able to read for a while, a nice change from crafting. (Seems like we all do that here!). How did your fritters come out? (I love them, perhaps a little too much!). Did you end up getting any snow?
Meg, we all know that little by little our projects get done. In a short time you will be telling us that the afghan is almost done and that you are looking for a new project. Perhaps its time for you to make something for yourself!! Even with your warmer climate there are some beautiful airy scarves that I am sure you could make easily. Its always fun to pick out and start a new project.
Phyl- how is your weekend going?
We went to BJ’s today, got that done for awhile. I am hoping to work on the tree skirt tonight- with an extra hour of sleep- or crating time- I will hopefully get to my machine and be able to watch a nice movie on the Hallmark CHannel. Love those sappy but happy Christmas movies.
Hope everyone is having a good day GInny

We had our first rain fall over night and another storm is expected. I haven't been out since yesterday and I will probably stay home and be lazy. It took me awhile to get to sleep last nigh so I got up later this morning. I have been browsing the catalogue looking for clothes for DD. I usually buy most of her clothes in the spring and fall. I also need a few items for myself. I have a lot of clothes but they are too large so I will have to clear out my closet to make room for the new items.
cj, I wish I could burn my papers but it is against the law. I do have a shredder but it over heats if I use it too long so I have to stop and let it cool down. I am going to go paperless with the bank and also Kaiser who send me all sorts of medical information. I am sorry you have not been feeling good. Perhaps it was the fish. You have to be careful with fish. So take care and hope you are feeling better soon.
Ruth, I had to stop and think about how I hold my crochet hook. The main thing is that you are comfortable. I would probably knit a cowl but it depends on the pattern. I like to crochet b/blankets and afghans. I am getting better at crocheting but there is still a lot I have to learn. We are never too old to learn. Your DH is a lucky man, you make lots of goodies for him.
Ginny, It does get quite cold here in the winter and December and January are usually the coldest months. We don't get snow here but snow is not too far away, we can see it up in the Sierras. I hope you are able to relax this weekend. My DGD and her DH are coming for a visit at the end of next week. I is about 18 months since they went to Florida to live. DS & Devin went to visit them last Feb and one of these days I will go and pay them a visit.
Enjoy your extra hour of sleep tonight.

Ginny, one thing we differ on then is those Christmas movies. I really don't like movies at all and esp dislike the Christmas ones. I've never seen the classic ones like Miracle on 34th St or whatever is is and the other classic the name of which I can't even think of right now....OH is it It's a Wonderful Life?
Meg, you're right, we need to hold the hooks and needles how we are comfortable with them. When I first starte knitting again, though, I forgot to hold them so that there was tension so had to get back to doing that. Things sure don't turn out right if you don't have tension on your yarn in either knit or crochet.I'm glad to hear your dgd is coming to visit. I know you miss here and it will be enjoyable to go and visit her.
Ginny, I know my library had a loose leaf notebook there that had list of what other authors you would probably like if there were certain ones you preferred but I don't know if they have it online or not. Thanks for mentioning it. I'll have to check that out.I'm pretty sure we did go to BJ's back in NY but I really can't remember actually being in it. We've always loved to shop so more than likely we did go there.
Meg, your area can use rain I know. And yes, I imagine even if it maybe doesn't get as cold there as it does here, it still feels quite cold in those winter months.
ok back to crocheting. Have a great evening all

Happy Sunday All! ! Meg, you must be so looking forward to seeing DGD and her Dh when they come for a visit! Will they be staying with you? Its nice that most of your family travels enough so that staying in touch and feeling a part of each other’s lives is easier. You have been through a lot- so its nice that they are coming to visit you this time!! You had me thinking about how I hold my crochet hook. I am a dominant lefty- but for some silly reason, crochet as a righty. Hope you were able to get some online purchases done for you and DD. Its nice to get some new additions to a wardrobe to spruce things up.
Ruth, gee....any news on that grandbaby yet? Later on I will check out my library’s web site regarding that author. Do you remember the name of a particular book of his that you liked? Its a little bit easier and will make the search more accurate if I can submit the author and book name to find similar books. I have to say it works- but is not perfect. I once queried aboard a certain author and the search gave me an author whose works I can best describe as “close but no cigar”. Also, if your library is helpful (and they should be!) call them....they ought to be able to help you at the reference desk.
Yes, I watched that sappy and predictable Hallmark channel movie. Lots of times I watch them “with” my DD at college and DSIL in Florida-we text each other throughout the movie chatting about it. I have seen some of the big name Christmas movies (Miracle on 34th st for example) and gotta admit I dislike most of them. One of my favorite Christmas movies is an oldie- Holiday Inn with Fred Astaire and Bing Crosby. FOr me, its pure entertainment- I love winter weather- so like seeing the snow and pretty decorations. Guess I like these silly movies cause they do not affront my morality, and are pleasant.
Got 2 rows assembled of the tree skirt. Hope to get a few more done today. This am I got the repair done on that coworkers poncho. Ruth you were absolutely right, repairs with homespun are easy- all the kinks in the yarn make hiding repairs super easy.
Gotta get in the shower so I can get to church. Have a great day all Ginny

Well another week is about to end and we'll have another new thread. Time sure goes fast.
It's another cold day here but sunny at least and no snow.Nice day to sit and crochet.
Ginny the books I like are medical thrillers such as those written by Robin Cook and Michael Palmer. Michael Palmer has died though. His son finished one of his books and it was good. The son writes his own novels but they aren't medical novels.
I made the fritters last night and dh ate too many and got sick so I don't think he's going to want fritters again. I think it was the oil.We don't usually eat fried food and all that oil was just too much for his system. It made me think of CJ and I'm glad, CJ, that you're feeling better.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Ruth - I'm sorry that your husband got sick from the fritters. I rarely eat fried foods anymore and I think they could likely make someone sick. I'm glad you enjoyed some reading. Ginny - I'm glad you were able to get your shopping done. Some of my family goes to those warehouse stores and stocks up too. I'm a member at Costco but mostly for their sale items, not the large bulk food since it's too much food for me alone. I'm glad the Christmas skirt is coming along. Meg - How nice that you'll have family visiting soon, and I hope you do get to go visit them someday. My brother lives out in the country so that's why he can burn, I can't do it where I live either. Hope the weather isn't too bad and your find some nice clothes for you DD and yourself. For those that asked about the food I ate, I think it could either have been the crabmeat or the mayonnaise in the crabcake or cole slaw. If it wasn't that meal then it would have to have been the frozen yogurt I ate afterwards. I sure hope it wasn't the yogurt, since it's a really treat for me to get frozen yogurt. But I'll be staying away from it for awhile. I like a lot of those Hallmark movies too and have been watching some of them since they started with their holiday movies. I really like the old "Miracle on 34th Street", but I think it more as a Thanksgiving movie. I remember always enjoying watching it after the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, but now it doesn't come on at that time anymore. I liked Maureen O'Hara, so I enjoyed seeing her in that movie. I've been doing pretty much nothing today. It's a gray, damp day here, so I'm not feeling like doing much. So I'm just enjoying the quiet time and doing some reading. Take care everyone!

CJ, sometimes we just have to have a nice quiet day where we do what we want to do most. If you did have food poisoning I would think it would more likely be the crabcake than the yogurt.
Speaking of coleslaw, I keep forgetting that my son mentioned blue cheese coleslaw a couple years ago then he had some with him that he got at a meal in the airport between planes I guess. I was going to taste it but I think dh threw it away because he thought it sat too long. I've never tasted it but ds says it's wonderful. I don't really care much for blue cheese anymore but I would like to taste some. Have any of you had it?

Never had blue cheese cole slaw but I do not like blue cheese -
Ruth, so sorry Dh reacted badly to that much fried food. (It gets my gut also).
CJ- glad you had a quiet day.....happy reading.
Got most of the tree skirt top assembled, just have to cut it to shape and add the border. Then the backing and batting.....should be able to finish it for Dd before thanksgiving.
Prayers for those in Sutherland Springs Texas. G

Ginny, congratulations on making such good progress on the tree skirt.
Yes it's a horrible thing when people can't even go to church safely anymore.

And that is exactly what they want- people to be so afraid to attend church that our churches are empty.
