Hi!
Really cold day and freezing temps coming. What a drastic change from the warm weather we have been enjoying.
Spent day finalizing online our visa application for Brazil. We will need to go to NYC and finish it in person since we are doing it so last minute before the trip.
Last night I had dinner with my best friend from school, my team mate. We went to our school restaurant. Another school mate - 23 yrs old - still in school joined us for dinner. It was fun to catch up. There is a wall of glass looking into the kitchen so we could see the students cooking. One guy was on one of my teams one quarter and it was so good to see him! He took 2 quarters off from school so he was not in any of my classes after the one we had together.
There are 2 chefs in this class, one for cooking the dishes, and another who teaches front of house stuff, waiting tables, serving, etc. They both sat with us and chatted at the end of dinner. We gossiped about the slackers in our class, haha.
Nothing else going on this weekend, taking a social break.
Holly, I haven't heard from that catering company again, I guess they only want weekend 10 hr shift help.
Jojo, hope the brace helps, at least it is making you more comfortable. Glad your cookout turned out well.
Joan, long day for you tomorrow! I don't know how you do it, I'm exhausted just hearing about your days.

Just got home--we took DD down to the Zappos Container Park in downtown old Vegas--she saw how much improved the area is--lots of new privately owned eating places, murals on buildings, etc. shoppedfor a frame for a watercolor she gave me and then had lunch with her in laws. Her DFIL is the one who had a head injury years ago and is not 100% --in fact with aging he is a bigger mess than ever--no idea how the DMIL can manage!
Tonight I am cooking. Making panko crusted halibut with mango sauce, baked SW potatoes, Asian slaw.
We will get up at 3:30 and head to LA to pick up DGD17 at LAX, take her to USC for a dance workshop and parent informative session. Then at 5 we take them back to airport and drive back to Vegas--whoa will be ten hrs of driving in one day! But we really don't think we want to spend a night. Only have Sunday and Monday before my oral surgery.
Jo Anne, I did not know your posture was being to be affected now. Doing Pilates might
Holly was the sale this weekend?
Sue we were here talking about chefs today taking DD around downtown where several chefs have opened their own small restaurants. DD was saying she heard a podcast about chefs and high incidences of drug and alcohol abuse due to high stress--so was telling her what you had said about stress and chefs.

Wow, everyone must be busy! We drove to LA yesterday (got up at 3am) and back home by 10:30am! Fast and furious trip—10 hrs of driving!but we walked over five miles on USC campus during the day so that helped balance out the day! I made good eating choices so felt good about that.
So enjoyed having DD here a few days! And seeing DGD17 yesterday was so fun! Hoping after my week recovery from oral surgery that I can go to Sacramento for Thanksgiving!
It is still in 70’s and lows in 50’s here at night—effect of global warming on Vegas winters and falls is pretty extreme. I still have lots of tomatoes on my plants! Crazy. By now we usually would be in winter jackets most days and for sure at night and all I need is a cardigan at night!
Slept till 8:10 this morning! May have to try to snooze a bit this afternoon.
DD got me hooked on Thus Is Us series on TV—.

Sue - nice that you know about the school restaurant. I’m sue a lot of people don’t even know about it. Probably a fun place to go.
Joan - ditto Sue! Your days are so busy. You are doing so much traveling here just before the surgery - good that you can get it all in. Yes, I have kyphosis from the scoliosis. So ugly. I ordered another brace that is different and got it yesterday. It is more comfortable than the other but more restrictive. No Pilates near me and I probably wouldn’t keep it up. The posture problem of course is structural and cannot be totally resolved but is somewhat improved with the support brace. I will always have one shoulder humped some. When I was younger it was hardly noticeable but age has increased it.
My yard is FULL of leaves . Got to get them off the grass.
DGS4 was with us this weekend so it was busy. Got eat with entire DS’s family Sunday - a treat . Don’t see them as much since don-t attend church with them any more.

Wow, sorry Sue, I somehow missed seeing your last post! How great to go back and have such a nice evening! I remember that glass window at the culinary school in Montpelier, Vermont when we ate there!
DD brought me a bag of beautiful persimmons from her friend Tam’s tree in CA—just ate another one! They are so good they make the ones in the store tasteless! I have to eat four today or somehow dehydrate them as no fibrous stuff for three weeks after tomorrow morning. Getting kind of nervous.
I am guessing that without the brace you may get backaches from throwing your body off doing all the physical labor, JoAnne?
Please keep positive thoughts about my surgery tomorrow— am nervous about them hitting that nerve.

Hi!
Been busy with figuring out health insurance, a real pain. We will be on our cruise when I transition at the end of Jan from cobra to new insurance. I also need to get an exemption to get my medication to cover the beginning of Feb, ugh.
Joan, hope everything goes great tomorrow for you! I've been watching This is Us from the beginning, so good. Glad you had fun with DGD
Jojo, I didn't really notice your shoulder humped. Great that you were able to get together with you DS and family.
I think we'ere going to NYC to the consulate for Brazil to get our visas. We also need to get yellow fever shots. Starting to get stressed about the trip!

Hi all,
I’ve been doing so much more this year with church and the Junior Charity League. It has taken my mind off the stress at work and given me the opportunity to meet people, which has been good.
I am going to get my teeth tomorrow at last. I look forward to being out of pain and to have a bite in order to eat.
Sue, insurance is such a pain. Are you signing up for an individual plan? I have heard good things about This is Us.
JoJo, hope the new brace works out
Joan, hope your surgery went well today. Glad you had a good visit with DD.

Sitting up in the kitchen for a while—have been in bed all day with Tanzi snuggling up to me—-icing my face 15 on and off throughout the whole day. Made up two icing bags this morning before going. Good news on the surgery—the whole bone transplant was not dead—-saved about half the bone and then repacked more bone material around it to restore it so they did not pull out the implant—yay! Also the fistula had been draining well so they did not have to insert a little hose to drain the infection on the wisdom tooth extraction area. Dissolving stitches there but non dissolving on the upper bone implant area so have to go back to remove them in two weeks-=—will try to go the day before leaving for Sacramento if we go—-and I think we will get it. I have had one oxycodone and don’t think I’ll do the other till bed time. I think I will set an alarm and ice during the night—-might avoid swelling really huge which would be good. I ate ice cream for dinner!! First time I ever did that—-it tasted really good and I don’ t feel guilty at all—-have had very little food—-really not hungry—made one smoothie and had a bit of cottage cheese with applesauce I made up. Need to drink a ton of water tho and really have not.
Another angry man, another five dead people—-more terrorized children and parents—when is it ever going to be enough to end the semiautomatic weapons and bump stocks, and magazines?? This is not political—-it is like legalized murder—-legalized because someone distorted the amendment to this level! It is so frightening—we cannot really feel safe from insane men with guns anywhere any more!
Holly, good luck tomorrow—-are they installing the crowns? Glad you have been meeting some people—-social interaction is so important to our physical and mental health!
JoAnne, my yoga friend who broke her leg in four places has a hump on one shoulder. She started doing yoga—Iyengar, which uses props to help you access the benefits of the poses no matter your condition—-about five years ago and before the accident happened was doing five and sometimes six days a week—-she was walking straighter and her back was amazingly nearly pain free for the first time in years—-that is why the accident nearly through her into suicidal danger—-she felt that she had found her perfect answer to a better life and now it is not allowed until she passes her physical therapy—-she is still in that by the way—-doing therapy in the pool now and hoping. You might try to see if you have an Iyengar studio anywhere near you—-it might be worth a try.
I heard Murder on the Orient Express is a good remake. Did anyone see it—-why did I think you did or were going to JoAnne? Probably dreamt that!

Good morning—and it is really good for me— the nerve did not get damaged! At 2 am I got up to put more ice on my jaw and I was so shocked—-I had feeling in my whole face! Went to bed last night worrying about that since I had total numbness from exactly the mid point on my lip, chin and tongue with whole right side on the bottom dead. I was so excited I posted my discovery on FB—-just felt like a huge cloud was lifted. Not that it would be life threatening but honestly would be a pain—drinking from a glass becomes a mess and putting on makeup sucks with no feeling! Yet I felt guilty worrying about it with so many people faced with such serious problems and I’m whining over one nerve!
DH slept in the guest room with Sidney so I could get up and ice—-and besides, Sidney sneaked out and terrorized her again so she has been afraid—-with me in the master bedroom most of the day she was out and happy—-last night she kept checking on me—funny how they know.
Today I feel almost guilty as I had DH take Jordan to orthodontist but I am not even taking a pain pill today—I am swollen but not crazy like I expected—-just looked like I have a ping pong ball in my mouth—but he thought I’d be huge—-will continue to ice a lot yet today as it is allowed for only 48 hrs but I think icing all day and even through the night really is keeping it down.
Had a poached egg with cheesy grits for breakfast and then made myself a latte—-love having the espresso machine so much—-will have soups and smoothies today. Thinking we will definitely go to CA for Thanksgiving as this has been so much better than anticipated. Feeling very lucky!

Joan - congratulations on comiing out so well with the surgery! I know you are relieved that it is over - well almost! How wonderful it wasn't as bad as first thought. You are doing fabulously with the pain management too! I have eaten milkshakes and ice cream manmy times for a meal with dental issues myself! I have nursing friend that have tried for years to get me to go to yoga with them, but I never have.
Finished up Christmas shopping to day for everything except the Texas family, which I will do later and have sent straight to them. I wrapped gifts most of the afternoon.
Did some laundry too but have a ton more to do. My task for tomorrow I guess. Trying to get ready for my sister to arrive Sunday. t Doing better with the knitting.
Have a roast to cook tomorrow. Left overs tonight - nothing exciting.
Yesterday went to the Srs. Thanksgiving dinner at our old church. Was good - ate too much!
Missed what Holly is having done - dental work?
Anyone else having company for Thanksgiving!
Yes, tragic about all of the deaths lately. People seem to think that the way to handle their problems is to go out shooting everyone. Such warped minds and spirits! There is such evil in the world at times! Wish we could hear more about the good people do, but I guess that is not news.

Hi all,
They replaced the bridges of teeth that are connected to my implants. They’re great so far. Taking some getting used to, but it has taken a lot of pressure off of my jaw, thank goodness.
There is a girl who survived the Vegas shooting that went to the university I work at. She has a long road ahead of her, but is making progress.

Hi - sounds like the bridges are permanent, not remocveable. Glad to hear that it is making your mouth more comfortagle.
Yard work today and laundry (still haven't finisihed). t Cooked a roast in the crock pot with onions and carrots. We ate it tonight and had a large amount of it left That I will keep for when my sister is here next week.
My youngest sister called tonight to tell me that my little 1 yr old great nephew fell out of a grocery store card today on his head. His mom took him to the ER at the Children's Hospital. They kept him for 4 hrs of observation and sent him home. I was so frightened for him when she told me about this. She will call me back tomorrow when she sees how he is overnight. The ER seemed to think he was ok. I can't imagine how he fell out of the seat - his mother must not have strapped him in! He had dropped his bottle and his mother leaned over to pick it up when he fell, she said.Maybe I can find out more tomorrow when my sister calls back.
I am eating more now that I feel better since my blood count has come back up - I'm also gaining wt. Back up to 122 - I was enjoying the 119.
Weather here in the hidh 60's low 70's during the day and in the mid 40's at night - quite comfortable.
