Continuing with the Good Health Guidelines:
4. Whole Grains: Aim to eat whole grain instead of refined white grain whenever possible. Whole grains are rich in nutrients, including fiber.
How do you work them into your diet?

I don't eat a lot of grains but I have a piece of Dave's Killer 21 grain bread almost every day for breakfast and I eat brown rice instead of white rice. We can now order brown rice at local Chinese restaurants.

Oats are one of my favorite grains and if I eat bread, I prefer a "grainy" bread like Dave's as well. I find I go back and forth on my daily consumption of carbs overall even when the carbs are from whole grains. If I am struggling at the scale, they are the first thing I restrict. I try to get most of my fiber from vegetables, fruit and then whole grains. I admit that I often crave a piece of whole grain toast with a light pat of butter or nut butter over chips or crackers. So, I do work them into my food plan as long as I am in my goal range.

I have issues with gluten (not celiac). I use brown rice pasta, alternate flours, etc. when cooking. I generally try to keep starches somewhat limited; they are what cause me to gain quickly when I'm loosey-goosey with them.

I think I'm a bit weak in the area of whole grains. I'm trying to curb my consumption of carbs, so I just try to avoid them. I need to pay attention to this as I continue my maintenance journey.

Good morning everyone
We stopped eating whole wheat breads. Hubby does not like the taste and I do not eat bread often. I only have bread once in a while if eating French toast or a slice of sourdough with dinner. We still eat brown rice. We both hate the taste of whole wheat pasta. We only have pasta once a week for dinner and use organic regular spaghetti.
I do eat reduced fat triscuts or wheat thins with humus or cottage cheese often for lunch.
When I stopped eating whole wheat bread, bagels and English muffins and went back to sourdough I did not see a weight gain. It's been about a year. My weight gain is from large portion sizes of other foods.
Trigger food for me is the fresh French bread bakery loaves of bread at the grocery store. Need to be careful if I buy that.

I have an occasional slice of Dave's Killer bread. But, I don't eat a lot of grains. Like many of you have, I try to limit carbs and so I don't eat them often. Whole grain bread is one thing I eat but I seldom eat rice or pasta, whole or not.
I eat oats and farro and quinoa .

I have a serving of oatmeal everyday. We sometimes have brown rice but usually the starch with dinner is processed rice mixes. Whatever it is I have 1/3 cup. That amount seems to work for me. I don't do pasta and white bread anymore and my husband doesn't like any of the alternate grains I have tried.

I limit my grains too since I have a dietary nickel allergy. It actually first presented when I started WW for the first time back in 2011. I began eating lots of whole grains and added more fruit believing it was the healthy move.
There's nickel in practically everything but, there's certain items that are particularly high. Oatmeal and bananas are the worst - go figure lol

I count carbs as well as points, so I try to hold back on the high-carby foods. > I very seldom eat crackers or chips or cookies or cake. They are big crave-triggers for me. > I use light English muffins for sandwiches. I usually spray them with butter-flavor PAM and toast them in a toaster-oven. They are a Power Food for Simply Filling. > Sometimes I snack on dry Cheerios. They crunch, and they are another Power Food. > Sometimes we have cream of wheat or hot oatmeal for breakfast. Both are Power Foods. > If I fix a pasta dish, I use whole grain pasta. I feel that I can't really taste the pasta itself by the time I add spaghetti sauce and garlic and Italian herbs to the dish. > If I fix a rice dish, I use Minute Rice brown rice. It, too, is a Power Food.
Tammy -- That's a good point about sodium. I haven't really done that. I'll start paying closer attention, and see if that helps.

This is pretty easy for me because I have at least 1 piece of whole grains toast with breakfast. I also do brown rice at home, and faro, and on the weekends sometimes we will do steel cut oats, a house favorite around here!
What is this Dave's Killer bread and where can I find it?

surfgirl Here is a link to Dave's Killer Bread. High fiber, whole grains and protein and it tastes really good. Don't know where you live but the bread is more readily available now. Dave's Killer Bread

Unfortunately living in a small town can be a pain when it comes to buying whole grains.None of the bread is whole grain. It may be a certain percentage of whole grain but not completely.I had been eating an Ole Xtreme wellness spinach tortilla with my eggs for breakfast but for some reason they would stick together and it became hard to pull them apart so I swithched to the smaller HEB carb sense whole wheat tortillas.Other than that I may have maybe 5 reduced fat wheat thins but that's all in the way of grains.Like everyone else I have to watch my carbs.
