Meg, I'd bet that Devin got much more than even 1/4 of what I got as a kid. and now they get expensive things too. I was thrilled to get a radio with a cord and dials when I was 14. We sure didnt have tv's of our own or definitely not our own computers, tablets video games etc. Of course there wasn't any such thing back then but if there had been we wouldn't have got them anyway.
Meg well that sure is short notice. Don't you have to use certain eye drops for several days before surgery? I'm sure you're glad to get it all done
Cj, I forgot that i was going to make the dump cake to take too dd's house tomorrow. Instead I made her a half recipe of carrot cake.
It is very cold here today. It was still 5 below zero when I got up and during the night it was down to -11. On another thread a woman that lives in Iowa posted about the weather and it's colder there than here.
Today I've been busy making that cake, then one of those egg, bread and sausage casseroles with my rice bread and then wrapping presents I'm going to take ovr to my dd's house tomorrow.
This evening will be crocheting. Last night I did some but didn't feel like working on anything better so did another potholder and a discloth to go with it.

Good evening, Someone please provide me with a definition of relax.
I used to have (and will have to look for but its great) a recipe for a dump cake of sorts, but it calls for angel food cake mix, fruit and yogurt. its a. WW recipe and is very nice. Will look for the recipe and see if I can locate it. Thanks Meg for posting that recipe- it seems to be inspiring each of us to make something soon! Indeed its quite something to see the youth who clammer for more and more. My DGD kind of threw a fit because I would not buy a toy for her on December 22. Yes, these kids have way too much. I hope that Devin was able to become comfortable with his scooter. My DD#2 had one and she really enjoyed it when she was younger.. Meg, will pray that your procedure goes super well tomorrow! I am happy to hear that this is all worked out for you- Ds is able to take you and that there is an opening in the surgical schedule. God is so good.
CJ- this cold weather is crazy isn’t it? Stay warm!!!
Ruth that is a bad story that your sister never got the package. 2 years ago, my somewhat shady neighbor- he is not totally dishonest, but will try to get his way in each and every situation- actually had one of my packages delivered to his house (think UPS messed it up) but the jerk then opened my package! Let’s hope that your package is located....
Phyl, sounds like you had a lovely Christmas.
Thought I would just stay home and bake today (family CHristmas party is tomorrow)- then I ended up going out with Dd #2 to catch a sale at the store we gave her a gift card at. The whole store was already 60% off, and I printed out a 15% off coupon...which they also took off. She got some great deals. We stopped in MIchaels while out, I got some felt to make finger puppets with (for DGD when I watch her on Thursday am). I was hoping while in Michaels to see if they had any deals on Christmas ornament kits- they had already taken out almost all the CHrismtas items. Wow. Think I will just place that order at Hercheners and be done with it.
Have a good evening all Ginny

Just did the insane thing and ordered some ornament kits from Herrscheners. I got the one set on sale and with free shipping. This way Dd will have unbreakable ornaments to put on the lower branches of the tree for next year. I have all year to make them..... ha ha ha G

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Meg - I hope the procedure goes well today, I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers. I'm glad you have your DS to take you and hopefully help you out when you get home. Ruth - I hope you enjoy your family party today, sounds like you've made some good food to take with you. Ginny - Hope there weren't a lot of people in the stores, too bad you couldn't find what you were looking for, but I'm glad you could order it. I just got a Herschnerr's catalog in the mail today. Phyl - Hope you are enjoying your after Christmas time. I made an Apple Crisp today and have been enjoying that. I had a few apples I needed to use. I think I'm done with baking for awhile though - at least I hope so. I've eaten so many calories over the last week. I'm not worrying about it, I just need to get back on track as soon as possible. I'm still exercising every day and getting in my water and healthy foods, so it's not all bad. It's very cold here, around 30 but feel like the 20s. I thought about going out today, but wasn't in the mood, so now I need to go out tomorrow to run errands and pick up a few groceries. It's supposed to be even colder tomorrow, but I want to get these things done before Friday when I figure there will be more people off work and on the road and traveling. The road I use to drive to shopping is a major North-South route through the state and it gets a lot of traffic that isn't local during the holidays. Take care everyone!

Good morning CJ and all who come in later CJ, apple crisp is very good. I have some nice salted caramel ice cream that would be good on it so come on over. We can drizzle some caramel syrup over the while thing Sorry you have to go out when it's so cold. Amazingly it was pretty warm here today. I think it got up for 40. When we first went out it felt super cold because it was so windy but at the stores the wind was not bad so it felt great. So we are done with going out this year. Did our visiting and shopping. Everything is in the house and mostly put away.Dh was actually quite relaxed while shopping today until he encountered a very unusual store employee who was rude. There are hardly ever rude people working in stores here although this particular store seems to have all the ones that exist. I did inform the manager about the episode I do hope that Meg's eye surgery is over and she's home and resting with everything having gone well. I didn't get any crafting done at all yesterday so will do some crocheting this evening. I keep looking at patterns and buying yarn now I need to get busy and use both of those things. I ordered some Pound of Love that was on sale and one was one of the new colors which is what they call forest green. It's a beautiful color. I saw a pattern today that they call a leaf stitch cowl. It was beautiful but in just reading the pattern it's very confusing so I'm going to have to resort to watching her video. I really don't like watching videos.I think this would be very nice in this green. I did a dishcloth the other day in what the pattern person called a "forked half double crochet". It's nice. I think I might use it for a baby blanket....the stitch that is. Ginny, relaxing is something that you hope for and don't often obtain. I've had more of a chance of relaxing since I retired. I do hope you will get in some relaxing time this week.

CJ- apple cirstp is just the thing to make when its cold- the ultimate comfort food. Stay home and stay warm....we are in a deep freeze for the next few days
Ruth, that sure stinks that the employee was so rude. Glad you notified the manager though-its just inappropriate. Hope you got some crocheting time in today
Helped out at Dd’s With the family Christmas party. I am tired....looking forward to a quiet day tomorrow. Hope Megs procedure was a success. Ginny

Good afternoon! Its a rip roaring 12 degrees here, not warm at all. Think CJ- who is also impacted by this cold blast is in the mid to high 20’s. That must feel almost balmy. I am looking forward to getting the Herschneners order to arrive, That will make a nice easy to travel with project. I have wanted to do this for a few years now, make Christmas ornaments again. So now I will add that to the list of projects lined up- half finished, or only just started....a baby afghan (which must be done by mid March), a quilt from my mom’s blouses (about 20% done), crewel pillow cases (40% done), and that scarf I just bought the yarn for. I must be nuts. But actually thought that if I listed the projects here it would help me organize in my mind.
Meg, hope you are healing up well
Ruth, I think a cowl in forest green in a leaf stitch sounds striking. If anyone can figure a pattern out its you....
CJ- hope you are staying warm in this frigid weather.
Phyl- hope you are feeling as well as you can.
Have a great day all! Ginny

Well here it is almost 3pm. I have a beef roast with potatoes, carrots, celery and onions in the crockpot and a pork tenderloin marinating. I don't care for beef except for a nice steak so roast beef is for dh and he and I will both eat the tenderloin..they were on sale yesterday.
It's pretty warm here today compared with the temps you are having in the east. However it's very windy again and doesn't feel at all warm. Yesterday dh heard a woman in the store saying she had moved here from Illinois and she said "they call Chicago the windy city, it's nothing compared to here" She needs to come out to my house...it's even windier here than in town.
We were sitting looking out again today but no antelope. We did see a hawk. We love to watch the wildlife.
Now I have to call my online pharacy...walmart mailing center...to see how I can get my refills...does my doctor call them or do they contact the doctor. I sent them an online message but got no response. I hate having to talk on the phone.
After all my talk about crocheting last evening I didn't do any. All I got done is looking at even more patterns. Today though I'm going to try the leaf pattern and start my dgd another pair of fingerless gloves since I ripped the other pair out. It's even cold there right now so they could use the gloves although they probably do have lots of regular gloves but who knows since it doesnt often get real cold where they are. Ginny, making a list of your projects is really a good idea. Keeps us focused. Sounds like you've made good progress on them and that the ornaments will be a great project to carry with you for those minutes here and there when you're waiting. I even saw a pattern that was for a bag to carry on your arm so that when you're standing in a line you can just pull your project out and work on it right then...the designer used hers. for knitting and crocheting. I do think that any bag with short handles would work just as well though. I'll have to look that one up again to see if there's something special about it...anyway I got off track. One of my goals for this year is to make ornaments too but just crochet ones.I imagine the baby blanket will go to the top of your list since it needs to be done at a specific time and the ornaments you have almost a year but, as you said, ornaments are a portable project.

Good evening!
Ruth, for refills here now- and this could just be my state- the doctor faxes in the refill- a system i find pretty cool. Of course it would be nice if you knew how the refills were being requested, by the doctor or by the pharmacy. That bag to hold craft work while standing in line sure sounds cool and yes I imagine you are right any bag that is of a good length to do that would work. Hey- what kind of crochet ornaments are you planning on making? A friend from church makes needlepoint on plastic canvas ornaments for many in the church. I do not know how she does it.... My church is not huge but its big enough.
I did not sleep well last night..and so am looking to get to bed soon.
Have a good night Ginny

good morning, no crafting. been putting up with a bad cold this week. feel better today. almost feel like getting out of the house. better not chance it just yet today. don't need to be coughing in the stores or pick up another virus we are n the bitter cold freeze. saturday will be colder, so may be stuck in the house again. I had been out 2 times to check on bailey. don told me to stay in. so he would go feed bailey and take her out. we don't mind doing it for bailey or when we have Sylvie. sure makes us glad we don't have to a take a dog of our own out In the winter months.
think I am going to opt out on all free crochet. just to many darn adds. what is the name of that mountain scarf again? think I will copy the directions and go from there.
I have made the angel food pineapple cake. never used yogurt or cool whip for frosting for it. looked up some recipes on their site. man do they have a lot of cake mix recipes.
enjoy your friday dear friends. phyl

Phyl, the name of the scarf is the Mountain land scarf, if I am finding the right web site searching my computer history. If that is not it, the instructions are easy and when I am on the computer I can just copy in the directions. So sorry you are not feeling well. Agree with Don, stay inside until you feel 100% or it is not so cold. No sense risking it. Funny thing about dog sitting, its a joy to do when its 65 and sunny, but a huge reality check when the weather is too wet, too hot or two cold.
All free crochet is a pain in the neck. I still get their emails though, because they have some really nice patterns. 90% of their emails I delete without opening.
No crafting for me either. I am still trying to clean up post floor refinishing and now the added insanity of Dd’s College stuff- where to store it or how to sensibly get rid of it.
Frigid cold here, but sunny
Have a good day Ginny

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Meg - I hope the surgery went well and that you are recovering and will be able to check in soon and let us know how you are. Phyl - I'm sorry to hear you are sick. You're smart to stay in out of the cold and take care of yourself. Hope you are better soon. Ginny - Hope your weather isn't too bad and you don't have to go out too much this weekend. I feel for you having to go through stuff and get rid of it or store, this is something I need to do too. Ruth - Your beef roast sounds good, hope you enjoyed it. Also hope you get things worked out with your refills. It's nice to have things more automated but there are still problems, aren't there? I got all my errands and shopping done yesterday, so I don't have to go out in the cold this weekend. It was very cold here yesterday, but there weren't a lot of people out so that made it nicer to be on the road. Take care everyone!

Phyl, I'm sorry too to hear you're not feeling well. You are such an active person that this has to be driving youi crazy.
I did call the pharmacy and they said that they fax the doctor so that's all taken care of and I put dh's refills on the automated phone thing then had to call to tell them to mail them Please. Woman there sounded a little rude too but maybe she was just busy and distracted. Or maybe everyone had a bad Christmas and are still grumy about that.
Well I've been doing a little organizing of my yarn and craft items and I did finally fine the cone on cotton yarn I was looking for before Christmas. Luckily I didn't need it then after all so will use it now although I hate to because they aparently don't sell it in this color anymore and I love it. It's a cone of peaches and cream in withite and black. It's great so why would they not sell it. I thought maybe it was just Walmart but online they don't sell it either.
Ginny, the ornaments I'm going to make are patterns for flat trees, bells, gingerbread people etc but I'm going to put two of each together for each ornament and put fiberfill in betweens and crochet or sew together. I also want to make a couple of those "vintage" shoes made of granny squares that you put the plastic cup in and fill with candy or whatever.. They're so nice for baby gifts in when you make them in other colors and fill with small baby necessities.I have a lot of other Christmas ornaments on my list too but can't think of them right now but they're all nice soft padded ones. They even have a pattern for really tiny bells I was thinking of making but I don't know what I'd do with them.
In fact, speaking of Christmas ornaments....yayyyyyyyy. I just thought of what to make for myolder dgc. I'll make them all these nice padded oranaments since they have babies. We're thinking of having a Christmas in July (or maybe August) so that will be perfect because then they'll have them to use when the real Christmas comes around. I guess I'd better look up all my Christmas colors and have them as we talked about yeasterday....things sitting where we can pick up in our "odd" momentsOriginally I was thinking only of making to send to INdiana family.
Right now I have a huge stack of potholders and discloths to weave ends in on. I may have to make those in Christmas colors too for everyone's kitchens.
Don't know what dh is up too but I imagine he's talking about the state of the world on his computer so when he does come up I'm sure he'll be ranting about how wrong some of those people are....lol
See you all later
Meg, I hope you're ok
