Good evening Ginny, Phyl, cj & Ruth, Sorry I haven't had much computer time with Devin out of school and DS off work until next week. I will be glad when I can get back to a more normal routine. I finished the baby blanket and have a good start on another one. I was looking for some yarn in one of my boxes which someone put in the garage and found 2 b/blankets which I had finished and forgotten about. I don't remember when I knit them. But I will give them a wash to freshen them up and send them off. This morning I had my hair cut and then went to Joanns where I bought 2 skeins of Pound of Love. It was 25% off.
Ruth, I thought I was using the pink yarn I ordered last year but I was using the reg. pink pound of love and that's why I had to go and buy some more pink yarn because I would not have enough yarn to finish the b/blanket I am working on. So I still have 2 skeins of the pink yarn they had on sale for cancer awareness. I will use it up eventually.
Phyl, I hope all your preparations for your surgery goes well also that the surgery will make you feel much better. I am sorry you have to go so far to the DRs in this bad weather. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers and hope you have a speedy recovery.
cj, You probably have a touch of cabin fever so I hope you can get out and get some fresh air. Of course going out when it is so cold is not much fun. Our temp. today was in the low 60s. We do need the rain. We did have some rain last night but today it is sunny.
Ginny, i stopped my magazines because I never had time to read them. When I do have magazines I usually take them when I have an appointment where I have to wait and I just leave them in the waiting room. I make sure my name and address have been removed. How is your b/blanket coming along? I have been in the mood to knit lately and of course listen to an audio book.
My DS was going to take our Christmas decorations down tomorrow and this evening about 7 p.m. a young guy did something to our blow up Santa Claus I don't know how much damage he did we will check it out better tomorrow. Devin was in tears and wanted to know why someone wanted to rip Santa. My DGD saw the person and went off yelling at him but he took off in a truck. Also we lost 3 pieces of mail and we don't know whether it was taken from our mail box or if it was lost or stolen elsewhere. There were gift cards in the envelopes. My DGD in Florida checked on 2 of the gift cards and someone had already used them.
I wish you all a goodnight.

Good morning,
Phyl, if i am reading correctly, is the class something you take before you go for your hip surgery- something you take to prepare yourself for the procedure and recovery? It does sound like you are getting some clarity regarding the two procedures. And I completely agree with Ruth, internet research on medical conditions can be scarey- there is some good information out there too....trust what your doctor says. I would imagine that the next month will be very hectic for you with doctor visits and lab work.
Meg- I think I would be seething over the damage to your Santa decoration and the stolen gift cards. I guess the way to protect against stolen gift cards is to give ecards, but not all companies offer them. WHat a sick world we live in. Glad you are working through your yarn collection and getting things done. I am sure you will find a way to freshen up the other afghans- perhaps adding a border would be nice.
2 hour delay for me. Its cold and very windy out there.

hi, yes the class was on what to do before surgery and after .like certain soap dr. lawrence wants his patients to use. have to shower twice. clean sheets and pj's then ot, pt, and the pharmist go over their speel and then each talk to you one on one. the nurse starts out the class.
this am I had to go to the clinic here for the cyst surgery. prerestrtion. the anthiesiost pa talked to me,.the nurse, the pharamist, and a girl took my vitals.now why could they not use the information from yesterday??also why couldn't one person had done all this, this am???boy things sure have changed from years ago.
it will be one day surgery, three pokes a small incison and the cyst, ovaries and tubes come out.still will need to talk to this surgeon to find out if it will be ok to go through the hip surgey on the 19.( recovery time for me)
meg I had head of this doctor for many years know people who have had knee and hip surgery. I wanted a doctor who goes In from the side. this doctor also use robots for the suregey before he goes in. they also wear space suits In the surgical room. there was a articel In our paper a couple of weeks ago about his technique.very impressive. we do have good orthos here. something In my gut just told me to go to dr.lawrence. 39 miles isn't that far. course In cold weather it may seem like it.
he is the one who ordered the mri picking up on my back pain. I did not have don go with me this am. he will go with me Monday. this way he could put Hannah on the bus.
trying to find some beige fabric that I like. I want to do the embroidery over on the small project I have been working on .nobody seems to have what I might want. having problems findng wha I want at home. enjoy your friday. phyl

Oh Meg, I'd be furious about the damage to your blow up Santa and the stolen gifts. Did you notify the police and postal service. The gift to my siser was stolen but it wasn't an expensive gift or a gift card. It's great that your found the two blankets you had already made. Some people will be happy to get them. PHyl, yes it's frustrating to people to have to answer the same questions over and over. I always hated asking questions again that I knew the patients had already answered at least once before and probably more than that. People in medical places don't share the info and they should. There really is no reason why when they first ask that they can't make a copy for you to give to the next person that wants or needs that same info. They even ask questions that they have no intention of ever using. For instance, one of the questions they ask in this hospital is which side do you like to sleep on. Well they do nothing at all with that info. Sometimes they do ask some of the questions again because sometimes people remember things they didn't remember the first time and anesthesiologists really do need to make sure they have the correct ino. Otherwise it's a waste of time for both the patient and the person doing the asking. It is good that they have a class to tell you about the proper washing, showering and sheet and clothing changes. Bone infections can be extremely serious. Did they also give you exercises to do. I think it's really important to do strengthening of the arms so that you have a better time walking with a walker afterward and also the tightening of the buttock Cheeks to strenghthen those. Having worked on ortho I know how important it is. Care was probably different then but patients had to lift holding onto a trapeze thing and many couldn't do it and when they graduated to using a walker it really made their arms hurt because they hadn't strengthened them. Well now I've decided that along with Valentine Day things, I'm going to make dgd who's bday is Feb 3rd a flowers in a row blanket. It will be small. Just big enough for her to use whilereading or watching tv. Bigger than a lapgan but not big enough for a bed probably....unless I like doing it so well that i get carried away . I don't need to have the things there right on their birthdays because if I send late they get to have another birthday opening the presents we send. Valentine day...well it's best to send those things on time. Ginny, did you have to work today or did you get more snow. It must be hard to navigate some small streets that the plow doesn't get to right away. Not to mention the cold wind involved in opening and shutting the door all the time I could have got a lot done yesterday but I kind of wasted the whole day and evening.I need to do better today. CJ, I hope you're able to get out and enjoy being away from home for a short time at least and be able to do something you enjoy. While out get yourself a really nice tea to drink and you read or watch tv. No calories but still a treat.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Meg - I'm sorry to hear about that person destroying your Santa, how sad that Devin had to deal with that. He's learning early in life how mean some people can be I'm also upset to hear about the theft of the gifts. I've heard that some companies will replace missing/stolen cards - or maybe there was some postal insurance on the package. It's a sad world we live in sometimes. I'm glad you've been getting in some crocheting. Phyl - Hope everything goes well with your pre-surgery exercise and also with the cyst removal. You are definitely dealing with a lot all at one time. Ginny - Hope the roads weren't too bad for driving today, I'm sure you're used to this type of weather, but it's always the other person on the road we have to worry about. Hope you get a chance to relax this weekend. Ruth - That flowers in a row blanket sounds pretty. Do the stitches look like flowers? What colors are you using? I was going to get a Hot Chocolate today while I was out, but passed it up to use my calories on something else. I have at least 2 cups of tea a day and one of those is always a Red Rose tea - so thank you again for recommending that tea to me, it's become my favorite. I did get to go out and do my grocery shopping today. Wind chills were in the single digits, but it wasn't too bad since I didn't have to be outside that long. It was nice to get out of the house. I really didn't need to go to the store, but I always see things on sale I want to pick up. I got 10 cans of soup today at only 49 cents a can, that was a good deal. But now I have so much food in the house, I really need to start using it. Take care everyone!

Happy Saturday!
Phy;, its really of benefit to you that your doctor is so organized and capable, in my estimation well worth the 39 mile drive. Think we all understand the frustration however, about why information cannot be shared (or is not shared) in the medical community. I went through that with my mom, who broke her hip, requiring surgery to repair, then was admitted to a rehabilitation facility and eventually assisted living. Many many different doctors were involved and everyone wanted their own testing and Evaluation. It was so very frustrating. Anyway it sounds like you are getting the best care. I will continue to pray for you.
Meg, I think pinks are about the worst color to try to match. Yes, you will be able to find something to do with the 2 skeins .....I know you will. GLad you were able to find the right pink to continue on your project. Yes that is awful about the damage to your Santa and the missing gift cards. Wonder what kind of sick mind would do that.
CJ- sounds like an awesome sale on soup! WHat are your plans for it- do you use it to cook with at all or just for a comforting winter meal?
Ruth, you come up with the sweetest ideas! That flowers in a row blanket sounds adorable for a young girl. What colors are you planning on using? Is it crocheted? I know you had some issues with getting appointments for Dh- hope he is feeling better and is less grumpy. It does make life more pleasant if he is in a good mood.
Yesterday was strange.....will explain more later. Glad its the weekend. G

CJ, you definitely have a lot of self control. Passing up the hot chocolate, esp in cold weather, must not have been easy. Good thought on the postal insurance or the company maybe being willing to replace the stolen cards. I hope that Meg will look into that or whoever sent the cards.
CJ, When we go out grocery shopping it's not usually because of something we need either. It's just to get out. You got an amazing deal on soup and I would buy a lot of them also. We, too, have way too much food yet we continue to buy more.I know that dh does stock up in case, for some reason, we wouldn't be able to get out for awhile. That happened two years ago when we couldn't get out for a month. Of course we could have had dd or the neighbor pick up things for us because they were both able to get out. We were stranded just because the location of our house sometimes leads to gigantic drifts being formed right here. And then we never know when our two elderly vehicles will break down.So we're always prepared for any such situation.
Ginny, it doesn't sound as though your strange day yesterday was a pleasant one. I know you can handle pretty much anything but it's great when you don't have to.
PHyl, yes I'd drive that long to see a doctor of that caliber also.He sounds like a really good one. Having worked in many areas in nursing I've had a chance to work with doctors in almost al specialties and I've found the ortho doctors to be the best as far as people skills go.Not to mention their expertise in their field.
THe dgd that I'm making the blanket for likes pink so I'm making the flowers in either two shades of pink...the two Meg mentioned...or if they are too close in color I might make them in pink and lilac. Main part of the blanket will be white, flowers that, yes show as little flowers in rows with be the pinks, and there is a row of green for the leaves. So alternating rows of the two colors of flowers. I'm using the red heart pattern but will make it a lot smaller than that pattern will make. I'm pretty sure it's multiples of 4 so I'll decrease my number of chains by a bit. And yes it's crochet.
Well I used to be a football fanatic but when the players started disrespecting the flag I quit watching. I might watch the playoff game today because the Buffalo Bills amazingly are in it and I lived outside of Bflo for many, many years
I hope you all have a wonderful day.I'm going to go get my yarn together to work on blankie while watching the game

Well I found out the Bill's game is not until tomorrow so may do some cleaning or just sit and crochet. Here's a site with a picture of the flowers in a row. It's prettier on this one than on the Red Heart site but it's a youtube where the RH site has written pattern www.hopefulhoney.com/2016/08/how-to-crochet-tulip-stitch-easy.htmlStrange thing is when you do a search for what they're calling the tulip stitch you get this flower in a row and then you also get a completely different stitch. But I did find out on the above site that it's a mulitple of 3 not 4. I always have a hard time figuring out the multiples if they don't give them so it's hard to make something larger or smaller without that

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today
Ruth - The flower blanket sounds beautiful, thanks for the link. Hope you are enjoying your crocheting.
Wow, I can't imagine not getting out for a month! I can understand your DH wanting to have food in the house. I feel like a food hoarder sometimes, and it seemed that started after I retired. Maybe I'm scared I won't be able to get out of the house, or maybe it's also that I like to get the good deals. I probably have 20 packages of those seasoned tunas by Starkist and Bumble Bee and over 20 cans of soup! I actually had to start a spreadsheet of my foods like yogurt and perishable meats, so that I made sure to eat them before they expired
Ginny - The soup I bought was Campbell's Chicken Noodle and Tomato. I can't believe the actual price of these is well over a $1.00 now, so I thought it was a good deal. The Chicken Noodle soup comes in handy for me on my weight loss plan, since it's low in points and filling. I'll add a few saltines in and have a warm snack for only a few points. I'll be interested hear about your strange day!
Meg - Hope you are doing well today and getting in some crafting and listening to a good book
Phyl - Hope you are feeling well and getting ready for the surgery.
It's very cold here today again and windy, but sunny. I'm glad I didn't have to go out today for the shopping, it feels a lot colder. I went out earlier and put out some things for the birds. I've read how bad the bread is for them, so I'm trying some dry cereal. They don't seem to like it as much as the bread. I'm also trying some peanut butter with sunflower seeds mixed in. I'm interested to see if they'll eat this. I had some bluejays and cardinals today, along with the sparrow and mourning doves.
I've been watching the Say Yes to the Dress shows today and the new shows start tonight. There is also a new Four Weddings show on tonight. I don't care for the drama, but I love to see the wedding dresses. When I was in my 20s I thought about becoming a wedding planner, so I've always found these shows interesting.
Take care everyone!

Ruth - I enjoyed looking at the patterns on that website. She has some really cute patterns - I love the little Mary Jane baby booties. And she has a lot of stitch tutorials too, I might try some of those.

CJ, we really love getting bargains too and your stash of food sounds like ours. I don't think I have 20 cans of tuna but we have a lot. I have a LOT of soup and we really don't eat much soup. I should use it in something I guess, just to use it up.
We feed birds too but esp in winter there aren't really a lot of different species of birds so we just put out regular bird see and they seem to love that.
I didn't see any patterns on that page only the two pics of the flowers in a row. I did put up the right link because I clicked on it and the right one came up so I guess I just didn't look in the right place to see more patterns there.

Good evening!
Ruth, oh my is that tulip pattern adorable, and I think your DGD will absolutely love it! Indeed it does look like flowers in a row, and either color scheme you make will be so sweet. Now, I do hear you with regard to the football season and the stupidity of the disrespect for the national anthem> I hardly watched any of the first 6 or 7 weeks of football season- but now that its playoffs, I do want to keep track. I enjoy watching football, and its great to crochet to. I have a playoff game on now and will watch tomorrow.
CJ- even tomato soup is not bad in points. Thanks for the reminder how good it is- especially in this frigid cold weather. Dh and I do the same thing, we stock up a little bit too much- and then get in a quandary using the stash before it expires. Still a good idea to stock up- especially when getting to the store can be a challenge. From my experience, your combo of peanut butter and sunflower seeds should attract a lot of birds. Not sure. If you are interested but on Presidents weekend, there is an event called the great backyard bird count. (Google it). You can register to participate, and can take a count of your birds at your feeder and submit the data. It takes only a few minutes, you can send in data from 5 minutes.....or w whole day of watching or anything in between. I enjoy participating.
Yesterday was a bit stressful. I knew we had a 2 hour delayed opening. While waiting at the high school with all my kids on - the dispatcher annOunced that the elementary school I drive for (there are 2) was closed - they lost power. The immediate communication was just to let the high schoolers go, and then come back to the bus yard. So that is what I did, when I got a second ration acall telling all of us to go back out on the road, driving our entire route, looking for students who did not hear of the sudden closure of the school. So, 20 miles later- I had one student that I had to tell to go back in his house, and then I finally left to clock out and go home. I was really now looking forward to a short afternoon, just taking my high schoolers home as the elementary kids did not have school. THen I got the call from my dispatcher telling me I had to drive another route. (For the other elementary school, so it would be a route I did not know at all). So there went any hope of getting home early r having an easy afternoon. The route I drove, the kids were pretty good- but the roads awful. There was considerable blow back of the snow, and the route climbed the mountain, I would never have taken a route there because the roads are poor.. Prayed a lot, and got the kids home just fine- but I gotta say, I was a bit frustrated.
Went into the other Michaels today with Dh- got the picture frame he was looking for. Shock of shocks, I bought no yarn. Still waiting for my Hershnerrs order- hope it comes soon. Guess I am about 1/3 of the way done on the baby afghan.
Have a great evening Ginny

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Ruth - I could eat soup almost every day, but some of it does take up a lot of points, especially since I usually like to add crackers or eat it with a sandwich. I stopped putting out the regular bird seed since some of it was left, I only put out sunflower seeds now, and suet cakes. I'm experimenting with the cereal and peanut butter. The birds aren't seeming to like this as much, I think right now though they'll pretty much eat anything. I love the little Mary Jane baby booties that she has on that website. Ginny - Friday sounds like it was a very stressful and frustrating day, lots of unexpected things you had to do. I'm really glad you made it through all your runs safely and the children made it home alright. They were fortunate to have you for their driver. Hope you get your yarn soon, good for you not buying any at Michael's Thanks for the information on the bird counting, I'll check that out. Meg and Phyl - Hope you are doing well. It's sunny here today with no wind, but still very cold. Next week is supposed to be in the 40s and up - a heat wave I made some oatmeal this morning using Old Fashioned oats, the first time I tried cooking them. They were O.K., but I didn't care for the texture as much as those in the Instant Oatmeal. I really want to make some Oatmeal Raisin cookies, but I'm trying to resist the urge. I may consider making half a batch sometime this month. Take care everyone!

Ginny, it sure does sound as though the day was stressful and that they tried to make you feel as though you didn't know if your were coming or going. I'm glad too that all the kiddies and you too made it home safely. You must be a really great driver. and congrats on bypassing the yarn at Michaels. Now that takes a lot of self control esp if any was on sale.
CJ, I heard that people that eat soup everyday are more likely to be successful in their weight loss attempts. I though of you this morning when I was using plastic wrap. Last time we were at the grocery store they had Glad wrap the 200 ft roll marked way down because it was a Christmas one. Well we don't care if it's a Christmas one or not...it wraps food and that's all that's important. So we bought 10 then after we got home wondered why we didn't just buy them all. It's something that doesn't expire too.Now If you made the oatmeal raisin cookies my dh would be happy to help you eat them. Too bad we live so far away.I eat the old fashioned oatmeal every day. I take a half cup of oatmeal and put in 3/4c of water and stick it in the microwave for 2 min and it's usually perfect. To me the instant oatmeal has a weird texture but since you like it I'm sure the old fashioned oats do have an odd texture to you. I always put fruit on mine and some kefir...not too much because I don't like it soupy.
Ginny, I did watch football today. Missed the first quarter and part of the second but no loss since nothing happened. I can't believe the Bills even made it to the playoffs if their playing today was any indication of how they played all season. If it wasn't for all the penalties against the other team the Bills wouldn't have gotten anywhere. I did crochet while watching as you mentioned, so it wasn't a total waste of time.DH is not at all a football fan although he's watched some with me but he didn't today.
I changed my color choices on the flowers blanket. Now the flowers are yellow, the creamsicle shade of Pounds of Love and lilac. It really is very pretty if I do say so myself and it's so easy. The bad part is there's going to be LOTS of ends to weave in because there's no way to carry the yarn along or crochet over it because it's so open. And it for sure wouldn't be a pattern a person would want to make for a baby if they didn't like "holes" in a baby blanket because this one sure has lots of those.
Well I'm going to get back to crocheting. I should be cleaning up the kitchen but I'll work on that later. Have a great day everyone and I'll check back later

Hello everyone/ We had fog this morning and it is a gloomy day. I did go to church and then home. I am cooking turkey breast for dinner Devin goes back to school tomorrow and DS goes back to work and I will have the house to myself for a little while.
Ruth, I did go to Hopeful Honey and checked out the flower pattern. I have watched her videos before and I think I learned how to crochet the V stitch and also the granny row pattern from her she is easy to follow. I imagine you are snowed in and I am glad you stocked up on food and other supplies.
Phyl, I am sure you are preparing yourself for your surgery and I am keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. I hope you will be safe on the roads
cj, I imagine that you are snowed and that your cupboards are full and you will be glad of the soup you bought on sale. I have lots of soup as my DS buys a lot when we go grocery shopping. I like Healthy Choice chicken and rice and he likes Campbell's. I need to get busy and make some.
Ginny, I hope you don't have to drive the school bus as I am sure you get stressed when the roads are bad. The pictures I have seen on TV look like every thing is frozen. The buzzer is going on my stove so have to go..
Hope you can all stay warm and cozy.
