Happy Saturday!
So nice to read about Meg’s trip to knit wits. Bet it felt good to download all that yarn including the UFO. How great is that, you get less clutter in your home and someone else gets yarn to work with. Meg, it sounds like you had a great day- time to crochet and enjoy watching Devin be a kid. Think we have all heard about the flu and how bad it is this year, lets just hope that they were not all sick and perhaps had some other reason for not attending. Its a wonderful example that your 91 year old friend is setting- still getting out and being active. Hope you can get caught up on the crochetting you did not get done while chatting with her!!
Gotta grab some tea (herbal) and oatmeal, then get ready for class. Have a great day all G

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all enjoying your weekend Meg - I'm glad you were able to go to Knit Wits and that you were able to share your yarn with the others. I'm sure the lady you sat with appreciated you listening and talking with her Hope you can get things worked out with the glasses too. Ginny - Hope you have a wonderful time at your class today, I look forward to hearing about it. Phyl - Congratulations on the weight loss and getting up and going to a meeting. I hope you can break through that number soon. Hope everything goes well with your upcoming appointments too. Ruth - Hope your project is coming along, it sounds like it will look so nice. The handles are a nice touch too. It was so cold here yesterday and windy too. I had to run the furnace a lot of the day to keep it warm. It's still cold today, and sunny, but the wind is gone. I tried that Two Ingredient Dough recipe this morning (the one everyone is talking about) and just did a small portion that made 2 nice size bagels. One of them I left plain and the other I added cinnamon and some raisins into it. They both came out really good. I already ate the cinnamon-raisin one and like it. I'm going to toast the plain one later (and probably put some jelly on it ). Each one is only 3 points for me and I think they are only 3 Smart Points too. I was really happy to like this dough since I enjoy baking so much and have missed doing it. Now I can easily make some things. I might try the pizza too and I was thinking about a jalapeno-cheddar bagel. I only used 1/2 cup of self rising flour and 1/2 cup of nonfat greek yogurt and that made the two bagels - in case anyone is wondering about portions. If you want any more details about how I made them, just ask. I watched a video on You Tube last night where a lady made cinnamon rolls using the dough, but I need to stay away from that! Take care everyone!

Meg, how nice to go to a group like that and have people to share your uneeded yarn with...people who you know will use it. I did that back at Caps for Kids when I wanted to do something with all that specialty yarn that was the rage about 10 years ago that was used to make those skinny scarves that were made with fun fur and ladder thread. I bet Devin was thrilled to get to go to the library to play Minecraft. My 12 year old grandson plays that too. Ginny, I, too am looking forward to hearing about your placemat class.I Hope it will be enjoyable getting out and being with people that have similar interests and also learning new skills and making something that you can enjoy in your home.I still haven't made any of the quilted holders for bowls in the microwave. they are very nice. I did see a crochet pattern for something similar and the person that designed the crochet pattern said she got the idea from seeing the quilted ones.Well those are on my list now too Dh would like those..either the quilted or the crochet ones so sometime. Maybe I need to go to a class too and I maybe could actually get to something like that and get it completed. DJ, that dough recipe sounds fantastic!. I haven't heard about it at all but sounds like it can be used for many things....and those cheddar jalapeno bages...exactly something I would eat...if I could eat gluten that is. My dh would love them and the cinnamon rolls too. The ones in the can that were a free item at my store went over well but he said it was just a substitute for real cinnamon rolls and said that "since no one makes me real ones" he had to make do with them. It sounds like, from what you're saying, that I could just make him a couple at a time which would be great.I'll have to remember, though, to get some self rising flour. So yes, if you could post directions or a website for them it would be great. Phyl, I hope that you are also having a good weekend. It's great that you're recovering so well from the cyst surgery.I've prayed prayers of thanks for that. I did get a lot of my Bible cover done yesterday but not much else on my list ...ie the household tasks ..so maybe today...maybe not.

hi, I did go get a haircut this am. came place different gal. my usual gal is out with knee surgery. won't be back for a couple of months., I like this gal also. might stick with her for awhile.
we got about an inch of snow this am. just enough to mess up the streets and cause slush.
ruth I didn't mean to jump on you the other day. just hit me wrong because friends keep asking about hip surgery. I have been telling them the same thing for a few weeks. when I know for sure I will let every one know. till then your guess is as good as mine.
think I will go to my playpen now. I do thank you all for your prayers and do appreciate the prayers. thank you. phyl

No problem Phyl. I'd probably get irritated too if so many people kept asking me and you know a lot more people than I do so I'm sure there are many asking questions. We do just all care about you but even that can become annoying I'm sure. I was a little surprised because I know what an easy going person you are so all this surgery must weigh on your mind. I know you'll do fine and we all will keep praying.

It is a beautiful spring day here. I had a look outside to see if my daffodils are blooming but I don't see them yet. I have seen some when I am out driving around . But my camellia bush has lots of blooms also my geranium has lots of blooms. That geranium bush was there when we moved into this house over 17 years ago and it just keeps growing. I guess it is planted in a good spot so I will leave it there.
Ruth , I am sure your bible cover will look great and having handles will make it easy to carry.
Ginny, how did the class go today? you will have to tell us all about it. I still have a lot of yarn that I need to sort out and I will probably take some more next week. Though DDs program that she goes to every day might be able to use some yarn for their art projects. They try to teach some of the higher functioning folk how to crochet.
cj, like you I used to bake a lot but not any more. I would bake more if everyone would eat what I bake. My family are very picky which I hate as it is difficult to please everyone. My mother died when I was 12 so I became the family cook though my dad and one of my brothers did help. But I did the baking and my father & brothers ate everything I baked. But DS, DGD & Devin are very picky. So that's why I don't cook or bake very often. If I did bake I would probably end up eating it all myself. I am sure a lot of older folk who live alone enjoy finding someone who will listen to them. Thank you for all the baking information on UTube. I usually only go there to check on knitting or crochet tutorials.
Phyl, I hope you are having a restful weekend.
Now I will get my Nook out and do some crocheting.

oh CJ, thank you SO much!!! These are great and I will sure be making some of the bagels and the cinnamon rolls and will try some of the other ideas too. The links are now in my recipe folder in my bookmarks. I knew you could make your own self rising flour but didn't know how much of the baking powder to put in...thank you for that too!

Meg, I didn't see your post when I hit send on mine. So hello to you also. My dh will eat just about anything I make so I'm fortunate there. My ds was a picky eater so basically we cooked what we liked and if he liked it he ate it and if he didn't he would make himself eggs or hot pockets or something. When we have company I always try to find out what the people like and make that but some people are just better visitors that way. My brother and my dh's brother were great to cook for because they would eat anything at all.

Good evening!
CJ- thanks so very much for posting the 2 ingredient dough recipe and all the links. It sounds amazing- and how nice to be able to make it all yourself. It sounds easy enough that I could handle it- and of course enjoy the bagel. Hey, do you remember when WW used to make their own bagels? I loved those....used to have one a day.
Phyl, really nice that you have a good alternative to your regular hairdresser. Getting ones hair done is supposed to be a stress free time- where you can relax while a talented hairdresser does their job. BIg relief for you that this other person does such a nice job. Bet you wish you could wear a shirt that says “I do not know!” Which is the appropriate response for now to when your hip will be done. Its so frustrating when well meaning people inquire- and I bet you wish you could give them a date! It will all happen when the Lord wants the procedure to be done....and of course I will continue to pray for you for a successful procedure and healing. Hope you did get to spend some time in your playpen.
Meg, for those of us who are still in the throes of winter, its sure nice to hear that its spring somewhere! Daffodils are among my favorites, so cheery and yellow. My mom used to love camellias- they smell amazing. And that stinks for you that your family is so picky-think we all like to cook from time to time and its so nice to share our efforts with family.
Ruth- household chores are very patient, they always wait for you! Good to hear that you got to work on the Bible over a bit - I bet it will be perfect and DGD will love it. Are there any quilt shops or stores near by that offer classes? I know for you not a lot is very close by and it is a hassle having to drive distance to the classes. Would sure be nice to try a new project- although you always seem to have a really neat project waiting. Sometimes here the local libraries offer a craft class or two...just an idea for you to check out.
THe class was great. Decent bunch of women taking it- unlike the first class I took a year and a half ago, this group was cooperative and non competitive- I enjoyed being with them. The first placemat took 2 1/ hours to assemble- and its not done yet! (We will finish it in 3 weeks). I learned a lot and the instructor took her time making sure we each understood the process of putting on a binding. Now we just have to finish closing up the binding- will do that on the last day. Somehow in the next 3 weeks I have to finish the other 3 placemats, getting them to where the first placemat is, with the binding attached but not turned yet. Its a great project.
Guess its time for me to get to bed, I am still very tired. Have a great evening all G

Ginny, good to see you. I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the class and the other members of the class were cooperative and receptive to new info and didn't feel the need to compete. Yes it will be a challenge for you to get those other three placemats finished up to the same point. I know you don'thave much spare time. I did check with the library and they have no craft classes for adults. They do have at least one very nice meeting toom and they also have a nice lounge type area on the 2nd floor where people could sit and do things like knitting or crocheting but they don't. If i were only more ambitious I could maybe work on getting some kind of group like that organized and talk the library into it.I''m sure the quilt stores here have classes but I'm not sure where those stores are. The one where I took the class back in 03 closed but I know there are now two other quilt stores but they may be on the ohter side of town because I know the one downtown also closed. There was a woman that came to Caps for Kids that did quilting and showed us how to put on binding. She got her info from a youtube that Nancy Z from Nancy's Notions had made
ON my Bible cover I found that, although I made the chain so that it looked as though the cover was going to be too large, it actually ended up being quite a bit too small. I was measuring it on my main Bible. So I ripped it all out. What a dumb thing that was because I actually don't know what size the Bible is that dgd uses most of the time so this may have even fit. when I started it I didn't bother to find out how big her's is because I know they have a lot of Bibles in their home so it would have fit at least one of them. Too late now though. I've started it over but haven't got far on it yet. It goes fast but in making it larger I must have chained the wrong number of chains because it didn't come out right when I started the actual pattern so will see how it looks when I finish here and maybe just go to a different stitch pattern.Or since I'm just on the first row I might take that apart and start over with the right number of chains.Guess I need to learn to count

Happy Sunday! Ruth, this time of year especially, its so easy to stay in and hibernate. (I LOVE to do that myself). You are so talented, surely do not need to go learn a new craft.....you seem to spend most of your time crochetting, not sure if driving across town is something you would want to do. Of course that is up to you.....that being said, taking on a new craft might be really fun for you!! Those bowl covers (the quilted ones) the directions are available online, I am very sure you will be able to handle it easily. Of course you know how to count!!! Is there anyway that your DDIL can measure your DGD’s bible? BTW- the big mistake I made on the baby afghanwas all about counting.
Anyone watching the SuperBowl tonight? I will probably watch some of it, with my schedule I will not be awake for all of it.
DS was very chatty last nite- so I got only a little done on the placemat.
Will stop in later on and see who checked in today G

Happy Sunday Ginny and all that come in later.
It's a nice sunny day here and no wind but cold. Dh made me a fire in the woodstove so it should be warming up in my house soon. I won't be watching the Superbowl. Dh isn't a football fan so he won't be watching either. For one thing I think it's on NBC and we don't get a NBC channel. The most important though is the principle involved in the situation. It's just my personal opinion and I wouldn't impose it on anyone though. some people get great pleasure out of watching the Super Bowl each year.
I'm back on track with my Bible Cover. I could actually email the dgd I'm making it for and ask her to measure her Bible but I think I'll just go ahead with it as it is now. I'm sure it will fit some Bible they have and she will use it. As for counting, well when I taught my dgc to crochet I told them that after at least every couple rows they needed to stop and count stitches in case they lost a stitch, which is easy to do at the beginning and end of rows, but of course I don't often do that myself and end up ripping out way too much because of it.
Ginny, you're right. I wouldn't want to drive clear across town to attend a class. I guess I'll stick to youtube
And Ginny, yes if our children, albeit that they are now adults, want to chat, we have to make the time. It's not often they want to sit and visit with us "old fogeys"

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Meg - I'm sorry you don't get to cook and bake for people who enjoy what you make, I'm sure they are missing out on some very good food. My next thing I really want to try to back is some Irish Soda Bread - I'm sure you've probably made that sometime. I have a few different recipes to try. How nice to already start seeing signs of Spring too, I hope you're enjoying the weather. Ginny - I'm glad you enjoyed the class and that the people there were nice. I've been in classes where I didn't quite fit in with the other students, so I know how that feels. Hope you can get your placemats done so you'll be ready to go back for the follow-up class. I remember the WW bread, and maybe the bagels. I did use to eat a lot of their products, but I haven't liked many of the ones they've made in the last few years. Ruth - I hope you do get to try the cinnamon rolls. It was so nice just to make a small batch of the dough so I'm sure you can do that too. I'm sorry you can't find classes or groups that you could join. I'm kind of in the same boat. There are none around me and the ones I would maybe go to are at times and locations where I wouldn't want to go. I'm happy the Internet has so much for us to look at though. Phyl - Hope you have gotten in some crafting this weekend. It's raining and cold here today, I'm glad I don't have to go out in it. The house started getting cold again, so I just turned the furnace back on. I had some soup and my hot tea today so that helps stay warm. It's Slow Stitch Sunday for those that want to check out Kathy's Blog and the websites of those that link in: kathysquilts.blogspot.ca/Take care everyone!

afternoon crafters, yes I have been In my playpen. was for awhile yesterday and today. when my low back said enough is when I came here. I have been working on two Hanhhuak table mats. trying to use up some fabric I have .my dsil is jewish .doesn't practice it much. think his parents might some.
I looked at I love to make quilts. maybe next year. I have to many projects to get done and projects started to get done.
a person can also go to nancy ziemmen .com to get her videos. we lost her to cancer the week before thanksgiving. her last show pbs showed was with her two grandchildren. she was teaching them to bake chocolate chip cookies and to sew. I should say that was the last program she made. they still show her show. some days create tv will have her on. like 5 am or 5.30 am. then again at 11am.not everyday. those girls lost a lot of knowledge and talent when she died. maybe one of her friends will step In and teach the girls.
ginny what placemat pattern is the class using?
I might watch the game. rooting for the eagles .don't mean to fend anyone .yahoo has a story about the qb wanting to become a minister. so for that reason I hope thy can win. that would be anicewa ytoend the career if he follows his dream. I did not read the article just the headline. phyl
