I've actually done that too Meg, Thanks for mentioning it. I rarely have real buttermilk. I always intend to buy the powder but never do. This last buttermilk was some they marked down because it was getting close to the sell by date. One recipe that I made a couple months ago, though, I used the milk with vinegar added and it didn't seem to work. It always worked before but I was wondering if in a bread like that if it would work.My dh used to like caraway seeds in his sauerkraut. I never liked them much except in rye bread. I wouldn't put them in the soda bread nor would I put raisins in it just because dh doesn't like raisins in bread much. I still need to make him those bagels but he's still working on some bagels he bought.Speaking of the bagel recipe, I saw something yesterday about making those bagels with flour and Greek Yogurt into balls and put cream cheese filling inside. That sounds like something my dh would like. I'll have to ask him.
Ginny, sorry for the delay that messed up your other scheduled things for the day. I'm glad you're going to be able to get to your doctor appointment though and I hope it's just for a regular followup, checkup or whatever and it's not anything serious.
I didn't get to sewing the Bible cover together yesterday. The straps will take a bit of time to sew on but it should go pretty fast... I hope.
It's fairly warm again today but there are almost constant and steady strong gusts of wind. We were going to go shopping today but I couldn't get to sleep last night so we stayed home. We'll probably go tomorrow. And I guess I'm going to have to stand on the street corner and give away peanut butter. I don't know if any one you have a Kroger store but they give free things often and this week it's peanut butter again. I'm going to pack up my extras and drop them off at the mission I think. No sense having them go to waste and I can't pass up a free thing. They also are giving a free Phileadelphia cream cheese which we can use but we do have a lot of jars of pb.
See you all later

Hello Crafters - Happy Valentine's Day - You are all such "sweet" ladies, I hope you had a good day Sounds like everyone is making Irish Soda Bread My buttermilk has expired so I won't be making anymore right now. I have read about that trick to add vinegar or lemon juice to regular milk. The weather here was much milder today and partly sunny, so that was nice. We might get a little bit of snow this weekend, after it's going up close to 70 tomorrow. Weather is strange. I went out to lunch today with a friend and it was nice to have a meal out. I also ran some errands while I was out. I'm listening to the news about yet another school shooting. I just can't imagine how we can stop these terrible things from happening. It's just so sad for the people who are killed and their families . Take care everyone.

CJ, I don't think that buttermilk ever goes bad and esp won't be bad by the sell by date as that's just a suggestion. However many people don't feel comfortable using "expired" foods so whatever works for them is what they should do.
Yes these mass murders are terrible and horrifying. I'm glad my dgc are homeschooled and the two that aren't live here where the violence is mainly confined to domestic abuse. Not that that isn't terrible also...it is but it's not usually a large number of people. Many people have many varied thoughts on how to stop all this. In actualily it will probably never stop because some people just are evil and some have mental health issues that cause them to do horrible things. Some are misled by various ideologies and groups. The most common though is to take guns away from everyone. Well that won't work because the people who want to do a horrible thing will find a way. Criminals find guns regardless or they use some other means

Prayers go out for the people in Parkland Florida, after enduring another senseless incident. Those who are intent on doing horrible things like this will find ways to accomplish them someway- just look at the Boston Marathon bombing where they used pressure cookers!
CJ- glad you were able to spend time with a friend and get out. I will end up making my Irish soda bread closer to St. Patricks day and not much before then. I do like the stuff.
Ruth - hope you can find a good place for the peanut butter. Its a valuable food for many who are in need, and I do not blame you one bit for taking it if it’s free! Yes, you should give those bagels a try. They are pretty darned good. I am looking forward to making them Friday mornng when I am off.
Got a little bit of crochetting done in the waiting room at the doctors office. He suggested a medication to try to help me out of the issue with my sensitive stomach. I am hoping it works.
Hope everyone has a good night. G

this particular store does donate all their bakery goods that don't see in markdown to the food pantry but I'm not sure about things like peanut butter. That's why I like to take them because, as you said, Ginny, peanut butter is a very valuable food nutrition wise. It has lots of great protein.
I hope the new med does help. It's great that your doctor is so proactive. So many doctors nowdays seem to just have patients come in, they listen, then do nothing. You really have to keep yourself informed and be your own advocate but then sometimes they get annoyed with people that do speak up which should not be.Despite what some of them seem to think, doctors are not God and sometimes patients do have a lot to offer and even teach a doctor. For instance, our doctor didn't know that there were other meds being used for a certain condition...meds that are mainly used for something else. When he told her she immediately looked it up on her computer and found he was right.

Good evening everyone, I hope you had a happy Valentine's day. Of course Devin was very excited and took a big bag of candy treats and came home with one. I had my taxes done this morning and don't owe anything and will get a little back. I am always happy if I don't owe them anything. It was colder today and overcast looked like rain which we need. We haven't had enough this year.
Ginny, I haven't done much crafting this week as I have been tuning into the Olympics. I agree with you about WW changing their plans and points. They always seemed to do it about once a year. One of my theory's was that they could introduce new cook books and other stuff to go along with their new plan. When they changed the program they always threw me off and I would drop out. I haven't belonged to WW for quite awhile and I don't know whether I will ever go back. I liked the original core plan. and I still have most of the material. I hope the rain stops and it warms up for you. My thoughts and prayers are also with all the people who are involved in this tragic situation. I think we need to be more aware of the mentally ill people around us.
Ruth, I am sure a food closet would be glad to receive your peanut butter. The food closet that my church supports often asks for peanut butter. They often would have a food of the month that they would ask for and peanut butter was one of the foods.
cj, I am glad you were able to go out for lunch with a friend today. It's always nice to get out for a change.
Phyl, I am sure you had an exciting Valentine's day.
I am off to watch TV or read whatever. Take care.

Meg, so glad you are able to enjoy the Olympics! (I fell asleep last night ). I just love that its such a good and positive thing. Fun to watch too!! There’s plenty of time to crochet or knit....regretfully the Olympics are over in a few days. Congrats on not having to pay any additional tax!! I am sure it was fun watching Devin come home with his bag of valentines. A reminder of the innocence of childhood and how much fun they can have at school. Hope you were able to relax....read, crochet/knit or watch TV. You said it best, whatever!!! My doctor knows if I come in with a complaint that its a complaint. I told him I have been fighting this for almost 3 weeks- he also knows that I do not like taking medication. My IBS was bad enough that he had to do something- I suggested other meds I had taken in the past and went to him armed with all the possibilities. I also told him the dietary changes I had made recently- to try to calm things down. He knows I try....and get to him only if I need to. Ruth, that is great that that store donates all its day old bakery goods- I have heard that grocery stores throw out so much that is no longer perfect but ok to consume- so donating those grocery items to a soup kitchen or mission is perfect. No waste. DGS is down for his nap- nice and quiet here now. Have a good day! G

Ginny, I'm glad to hear that you have a doctor that not only listens but then actually does something. Most doctors seem like that commercial on tv that says why monitor something if you're not going to do anything about it.
So how does that work exactly when you have a two hour delay. The kids go in two hours late...do they go home at the usual time then or do they stay at school for an extra two hours. I never really thought too much about it but the two hour delay must really mess things up
It's snowing here today. Not heavily but enough that it's making it difficult to see the mountain which is about two miles away (Im not good at judging distances) so I'm not sure if we'll be going out to shop today or not. I'd think not but will have to wait till dh gets up to find out for sure.As you know, I don't mind at all just staying home
Meg, of course children are all too happy to get candy so Valentine's day is always a big hit. I sent those Valentine treat bags that I made to my grands. They're homeschooled so don't get to exchange Valentines so they loved getting those little bags with candy in them. Of course they might exchange Valentines at the co op they go to once a week. It's a Christian education co op where various subjects are available including musical instruments, I think that each child that goes there takes two subjects and the mothers all participate. Those that are qualified teach and the others help in other ways.

Hello everyone, another sunny day though it is much cooler in the shade and a wee bit windy. I am just not getting any crafting done this week. Just not in the mood. Perhaps tonight. I have been more interested in reading. Today was a stay at home day .
Ginny, I hope your Dr. can help you and that you will feel better soon.
Ruth, I hope you don't get too much snow. If the roads are icy and you have a lot of snow it would be best to stay home. I never liked to drive on snowy slippery roads.
I wish you a warm cozy evening.

Hi Meg. It's great to see you. You're right about snowy slippery roads. I hate to drive on them and never do it anymore if I can help it. We might go out tomorrow if the weather is not bad. It's supposed to be better tomorrow and warmer so we'll see. there's really nothing we need to go out for.I just want to go to Walmart and get a couple of the things that Ginny suggested would be good gifts for my dgd...not the Bath and Body works items of course as they're not sold there but a notebook or journal and whatever else I see and of course while in Walmart you know I have to look at the yarn. I do want to see if the Mandala is still being sold at the same price it was before the so called shortage of it. And I want to look at cotton yarn to make more of the potholders I'm supplying the world with I also have some other little items I need to get there so I better make a list Yes sometimes we just need to get away from our crafting for awhile or there are things that come up that we'd rather do. Then the urge to create something hits again and we're back to crafting. I was going to sew my Bible cover parts together today but didn't feel like doing that so thought I'd start on the fingerless gloves for dgd and ddil. I started on pair but the they turned out to be way too large even though I was only using a g hook and it was a pattern that isn't easy to decrease the number in the chain because of the pattern so I decided to try the pattern that I had so much trouble with last year. Now it's working great except I keep putting and extra stitch on the end so I really have to count stitches every couple rows. The pattern designer says it's "lightening fast" and that it will take under an hour to make a pair. Well it is relatively fast but it actually takes about an hour to make one glove not the pair. I think we've talked about this issue before in which the designers claim something will take an hour...many say that but I don't think I've ever found one where that actually was the case and I don't think I'm a slow crocheter.I did the first glove without accidentally making the extra stitches at the ends of the rows and it still took an hour I know the evening is pretty much over for those of you in the east but for Meg, Phyl and I we still have a few hours to go. I hope they have a good eveing that that you CJ, and Ginny all had a good one and will have a good restful sleep. See you all tomorrow

For a two hour delay, they go in 2 hours later, to allow time for the road crews to salt, sand and or plow. the kids have shortened classes...and go home the normal time. Its great for the kids and teachers, its truly a shortened day. For me, its just as much work with less down time.
So glad its the start of a 4 day weekend. G

Oh you do have a 4 day weekend...that's great. I was wondering because today it dawned on me that the holidays are always on Mondays...except Independence day and Thanksgiving and Christmas and I think NY too. I knew you said yesterday that you were going to make bagels on your day off Friday so I was confused. It's great having those long weekends I'm sure. And I was kind of thinking that everyone else but the bus drivers benefitted from the shortened days. It must just compicate those days for you. I hadn't really thought of that before just a day or so ago and have ;meant to ask but didn't remember to do it until today
So have a great night and another good night to Meg, Phyl, and CJ

Good morning!
I stayed up till 10:30 watching Olympics- gotta enjoy them while they are on. Right now am having one of those two ingredient bagels- this time with the addition of my own home made everything bagel topping. Such a nice treat.
Meg- good to hear that you have found a good book to listen to. Think we all go through cycles of crafting/reading/just resting.....when its time you will return to crafting.
Ruth, can I have a potholder? (Just kidding!) Thought that perhaps you needed to make one more pot holder. They are such great gifts and pretty easy to make. I forget, which pattern do you use- or do you alternate between several? You mentioned that we have all had that experience with the “lightening fast” crafts. They usually are easier to make indeed but normally take about double the amount of time. I have a quilt pattern that says “make a quilt in a weekend”. Yeah, right...... Hope you have good enough weather to get to Walmart- where they have a great assortment of stuff for easy gifts. Quite a difference from the Walmart of about 10 years ago....
Ok I have blabbered enough. Have a great day all. G

Hello to Ginny and Phyl who have stopped in and also to CJ and Meg.
Phyl, it's a nice thing to do to donate your unused yarn to someone that can and will use it.
Ginny, enjoy the long weekend. It's great having time off. Sounds like your baby blanket is coming along and that you might have time this weekend to really get close to having it finished.
Well last night I worked on those gloves. I got the second one done finally. I don't know why I kept having trouble with the edges but then after it was nearly done I saw a mistake that is noticeable so I decided that I would keep that one for me and make another to go with the first one I made to give to dgd. Dh keeps asking me why I dont make myself a pair to keep my poor Raynaud's fingers warm so now I do have,or will soon have a pair for myself. So I got about half of that third one done and will finish today. Then hope to work on the Bible cover. As I was going to sleep last night I was thinking of what order I wanted to sew the parts together in. And as far as mistakes go, I'm sure most people wouldn't notice most mistakes and I've actually come to the place where I can finally let some of them go but for the most part I do go back and correct them or start over even when they are unnoticeable to anyone else but me.I one time sent my old high school friend something I made for her. I didn't have an errors that I knew of but put a note with it that said. "if you see any errors in this project, may it remind you of our Saviour Jesus who was the only perfect person that ever lived"
Yes that weekend quilt you mentioned, Ginny, reminds me of the 3 or 4 hours sweaters they talk about...right!!
