Good Morning Walkers! Last night I marched in place 40 mins = 2 Miles so 3 mi for the day with the 1 mi I did in the am. Thanks for the inspiration NANCY! I felt like I was wimping out while you were doing 3 miles 😀 and that motivated me to get in 3 miles yesterday. I did stay in my green zone of pts & I did JGTB. I'm really surprised how the PR challenge focusing on these 3 HHs is helping. I am certain this is a PR for me in JGTB days in a month although I never counted them up that way before. The other 2 are not PRs but are definitely "better than" many months and better than if I weren't focusing on them. ---------- JAN PR CHALLENGE: So far this Month out of 24 days: Green zone pts: 12 At least 1 mi per day: 20 JGTB: 21 ---------- I went to Dr appt yesterday. Cellulitis resolving. BP normal. Took blood for normal tests not done since over 2 years ago. Got flu & shingles immunizations. I guess I'm tanked up and ready to go! Last night I was thinkling about last week and how I finally gave into temptation with the snack food left on the counter at work which had been there for over a month. Also when I finally gave into eating the chips, trail mix , and cookies left in my house. It was an NSV for me that it took that long, that I DIDN'T get into them. But why did I eventually eat them? Besides the fact that I'm a compulsive eater 😉 I was googling about this and there are theories in psychology called "Decision Fatigue" "Ego Depletion," and "Willpower Depletion." There's evidence that struggling with difficulties and deciding over and over to avoid a temptation wears out our willpower. It's why it helps me to automate and pre-plan my meals and snacks and have fewer decisions to make in tempting situations. I think what happened with me was I was fighting some emotional stress and I slacked off some on my prayer and meditation, which I think replenish my willpower and got too drawn into my emotional drama. Then I started think of those foods as options instead of as "not mine," not part of my plan. It's an old habit pattern of mine to turn to food to soothe my emotions. Then it became a struggle with the food. It's why I do better when I keep certain foods entirely off my eating plan rather than trying to debate with myself about when, how much, yes/no, etc. Here are 2 interesting articles: mobile.nytimes.com/2011/08/21/magazine/do-you-suffer-from-decision-fatigue.htmlwww.apa.org/helpcenter/willpower-limited-resource.pdfKELLY - Sorry about the eating but I'm sure you'll get back on track. Probably post-stress eating. I have that pattern. Post-event letdown eating. Maybe it's part of willpower depletion. So HaPpY about baby Isabelle! RUTH - Sounds like a great plan for DD & baby to stay over. This weekend will be awesome! My throat seems normal today, thanks. NANCY - it's great to see how just making these challenges and goals motivates us to act differently, better, for health! Sending prayers and good wishes for all! Waving at everyone! Good afternoon,
Kelly glad the baby got to come home. Two times the fun! GFY getting your miles.
Ruth glad your DD decided to stay a few days with you, probably makes it easier for you. Hope your other GB gets to come over the weekend.
I have been busy today, I had a water leak in my well house, my son fixed it and I wrapped the lines. Picked up GS at noon , fed him and took him back to school. And walked three miles. Nancy

Hi Everybody!
I've been a little busy lately and just plain tired when I get home. Not a good idea because support is so important. I had weigh in tonight and lost .6 for the second week in a row. I am exercising mostly indoors on stationary bike and marching in place while watching recorded shows but I guess something is working.
Waving at everybody. I will be more social this weekend. Gotta get to bed.

Good morning. Got up earlier than usual today because I had a terrible thigh cramp at 3:15, tried to go back to sleep but gave up at 4:30. So I took the dog for a walk so that way when I get home from yoga I can see the baby before work.
Cait: That is very interesting what you said about avoiding the temptations so many times until you can't. Also about the controlling the situation a little. I make a chart like thing with what I am going to eat for the week and text it to my friend which keeps me in line a little.
Velda: Good job two weeks in a row!!!!
Nancy: Did you have a pipe break? Water is such a mess!!

Good Morning!!
Good day yesterday eating wise. I did not exercise yesterday due to visiting with the babies. They are good babies so far. My niece looks exhausted, though. One of her older girls must have threw up all over the couch in the middle of the night and it was quite a mess. The babies are on an every 3 hour feeding schedule. She is breastfeeding but pumps so they can be fed bottles. She does feed once a day from the breast. The babies' daddy is doing very well with never being around a baby before.
Cait: You're doing great. Interesting information and yes the eating is stress related.
Nancy: Great job with your miles. Sorry about your water leak.
Velda: Great to see you posting and great job with the weight loss and exercise.
Ruth: Glad you are feeling better. It is so nice of you to be such a good support to your daughter. Enjoy those grandbabies.
Waving to all and sending skinny vibes.

Good evening,
Velda GFY on the loss, and your exercise.
Ruth that is a very early walk, lol. I bet you are enjoying the baby. Yes I had a leak in a line after we had a hard freeze a couple of weeks ago. I only use the well for the yard and water for my goats so we waited until it got warmer to fix it.
Kelly I am glad your day went better yesterday. How old are your nieces older girls? Does your niece have any help? That is a full schedule, just feeding. Hope things get better for her real soon.
Cait glad you got a good report from your doctor. Interesting discussion on willpower depletion. I think I have had that several times.
I walked three miles today. And I have gone eight days without a Diet Coke, not easy. But I am going to try hard to stick with it. Grandson said he would give me a month and I would start drinking them again,so I need to show him, a little challenge. Nancy

Good Morning!!
Only walked 1 mile for exercise yesterday. Feeling Lazy and not the best supper as I had Chinese. I have to be a work an hour early for a meeting.
Nancy: The older girls are 8, almost 9, and shame on me I can never remember if the oldest will be 10 or 11 in March. Her boyfriend as been a great help so far. My sister her mother also helps. Great job with going without your Diet Coke and your miles.
Waving to all. Have a great Day.

Good morning. Yesterday was hot yoga day and boy oh boy did she ever have it hot!! I didn't look but I'm pretty sure it was over 114. I never have to lay down to take a break and I did TWICE yesterday!! If you have not been around babies recently you would be AmAZeD at the stuff they have now. All these rockers and bouncers and seats for so many things. The baby didn't sleep real well so when I got home from the gym I walked the dog then got her. She is in her automatic rock n play that is playing rain and crickets and stuff. The other rock n play is not automatic but it vibrates.
Kelly, did the other twin go home? It sounds like it bu I must have missed when you told us. Wow this almost two week old is enough, I really feel for the mom!!! Both DD and DIL had/have a huge problem with enough milk.
Nancy, WooHOo, that is so great. You can do it and yes, keep using the challenge from your grandson as motivation.

Good Morning Walkers!
Yesterday was up very early to get to downtown LA around 8 am for work. I did walk 1 mile downtown. I did stay in my green zone of pts & I did JGTB. The previous night I overate DHs snack foods but I did march In place 3 miles & JGTB. ------ JAN PR CHALLENGE: So far this Month out of 26 days: Green zone pts: 13 At least 1 mi per day: 22 JGTB: 23 ------- Yesterday when I showered & dressed at 5 am ish, trying to be so quiet to not wake DH, the steam from the shower set off the smoke alarm in the bedroom. It was shrieking and wouldn't stop! DH didn't wake at all. Finally it stopped. He never heard it.
Tonight we're having friends over for dinner.
KELLY so glad your sis is helping, after the grumpy start, and glad your niece's BF/DH is helping. GFY doing 1 mi even though you probably didn't feel like it.
NANCY - you have goats!?! I stopped a long time Diet Pepsi habit a few years ago and am so glad. It didn't help with my eating, and harmed my teeth and bones and who knows what else - all those chemicals - and the acidity isn't good for me
RUTH - I'm so happy for you with your precious expanding family. GFY getting back to your yoga. I don't think I'd do well with hot yoga. I sweat a lot even when it's cold.
VELDA - Whoo hoo for you on the WI Loss. I am losing much more slowly now 14 years since I started WW. Changes in metabolism with aging and lower activity I guess. But it is what is. We're in this "For Life."
Waving at everyone! Have a great day!

Good afternoon,
Kelly hope you have a relaxing weekend. Sounds like you need it. Glad your nieces are ole enough to be helpful to your niece.
Ruth I bet your house has changed a little with all of the baby stuff, lol. GFY with your yoga.
Cait great job on your walking and marching. Yes I have two goats and my son has a lamb in my yard, we live out of the city limits and I have about an acre fenced and the goats help keep the weeds down they are very gentle, I have had them since they were babies ,about six years. They are not in the yard by my house. Our county has a 4-H stock show this week and the last two years my son has bought an animal and he doesn't have his place fenced so I end up with them in my fence, but I don't mind.
I walked two miles today. It has been cold, a few snow flurries forecast,so I haven't done much. Nancy

Good morning, well it figures I caught a cold!!!! I texted DIL so she could decide if she would still bring Brooke down ... I am very happy to say she is I will just wash my hands continually. I took some meds hoping to knock it out overnight, it is still here.
Nancy, my neighbor had goats, the were very nice animals. The one used to get out and come over here. They were old and finally died.
Cait, I nearly burst out laughing at the alarm story. That is so awful it went off but it is just crazy he didn't wake up. Those smoke alarms are so loud. I really can't stand places or other classes being hot but in the yoga I guess because they also make it humid it isn't so bad as it would be in say spin class. Plus you do have to dress for it cuz your clothing gets soaked.
Have a great day, going to try to sanitize my house.

I'm Good morning,
Ruth I am glad that your family is coming. Enjoy your babies! Hope the cold doesn't get worse.
I have walked two miles and rode the exercise bike 9 miles ( 42) minutes. I am trying to figure out how to get my fitbit to count riding the bike. So far no luck. It tracks riding outside. I will have to ask DDIL. Anyway I have four miles today. Nancy

Good Morning Walkers!
Yesterday was a bust on all 3 PR HHs - no exercise, overate, & although I did go to bed around 11 pm, I went back downstairs and got snack foods ☹️. If I hadn't gone back down for the snack foods I would have at least been in my yellow zone of pts for the day. As it was I went above my red zone. We had friends over for dinner, and I had more wine than I should and that increases my impulsiveness and decreases willpower about food. Oh well today is NDNC New Day New Choices. -------- JAN PR CHALLENGE: So far this Month out of 27 days: Green zone pts: 13 At least 1 mi per day: 22 JGTB: 23 --------- RUTH - have you tried Coldeeze zinc & C lozenges? I use the sugar free ones. It does seem to lessen severity and duration of a cold for me. Hope you feel better soon. You are a good grandma doing what you can to sanitize.
NANCY - sounds like a nice setup. GFY with the walk and bike 4 miles!
Waving at everyone! Have a great day!

I just reread the article about decision fatigue I think I posted the other day, and thought this conclusion was helpful: “Good decision making is not a trait of the person, in the sense that it’s always there,” Baumeister says. “It’s a state that fluctuates.” His studies show that people with the best self-control are the ones who structure their lives so as to conserve willpower. They don’t schedule endless back-to-back meetings. They avoid temptations like all-you-can-eat buffets, and they establish habits that eliminate the mental effort of making choices. Instead of deciding every morning whether or not to force themselves to exercise, they set up regular appointments to work out with a friend. Instead of counting on willpower to remain robust all day, they conserve it so that it’s available for emergencies and important decisions. “Even the wisest people won’t make good choices when they’re not rested and their glucose is low,” Baumeister points out. That’s why the truly wise don’t restructure the company at 4 p.m. They don’t make major commitments during the cocktail hour. And if a decision must be made late in the day, they know not to do it on an empty stomach. “The best decision makers,” Baumeister says, “are the ones who know when not to trust themselves.” mobile.nytimes.com/2011/08/21/magazine/do-you-suffer-from-decision-fatigue.html

Hi Everyone!
Yay for the weekend and some slow days for me. I do merchandising in stores and have been very busy all week. I have been getting 8-10K steps just doing that because I park as far away from the front door as I can and if it is a large store, I enter on the opposite side of where I am headed. I still manage to ride my bike and walk in place at least 30 minutes each every night so I can have some continuous activity.
KELLY, congrats on new grand nieces/nephews. Awesome that that you are helping your niece with the kiddos.
RUTH, great mileage. Sorry about the cold. Hope you're feeling better soon.
CAIT, LOL about DH not hearing the alarm. That would be me. I sleep like a rock. Interesting info about people that are successful with weight loss.
NANCY, my Fitbit doesn't count steps on inside bike either. I usually remove it from my wrist and put it in my pocket or put it inside the top of my sock when I do inside biking. It doesn't give me as many steps as normal walking but it registers the movement as elliptical in the Fitbit app. Where it says 'categorize' I change it to bike.
Hope the weekend is going well for y'all.
Velda
