*Quick wave back thyme2 while tossing you coffee* Oh geez Mike, I hate when they do those studies. Now we will be bombarded with tons of misinformation and people will take everything out of context. *eyeroll* Glad your storm is passing through and you will be storm free through the weekend

zazzles I just saw what ksbruns posted in yesterday's thread. That is an interesting question and since you have become the expert in this would you mind sharing some of the real time information you are seeing when you get a chance? Don't be afraid to get all geeky on us, we are nerds, we can take it!

yes I know this general ed class is hard for this kid. Yes, I know he wants everyone to do everything for him and whines if you don't. But if you keep talking to him for an hour- your giving him attention for it. Sometimes we need to take a hard approach. I'm not trying to be mean. Get over it.
I understand they have special needs- I live for these kids. But you need to give them the same rules and responsibilities (within their abilities).
Allowing them to escape because "I have Autism" does not help them
OK thanks for letting me rant

I'm IN.
My area of NJ is back to drizzle and the winds have died down but last night (from evening commute onward) was INteresting.
We did a once-around-the-house this morning and all seems to be OK so I'm hoping that the rain will fade to nothing, especially since Toots resumes his rehearsals tonight.
Speaking of rehearsals... shrimp scampi and zoodles is on my menu for dinner. That's my one benefit of Toots being out on Tuesdays - I get my fishy things for dinner.
Must pay attention to the DayJob... have a healthy-eating day, all!

At the dr office for dh's surgical follow up. Spitting rain/snow has started so glad they transported us from rehab. Fingers crossed for good news. We're looking forward to seeing new movies.
Missed my Tues morning WI and mtg. Michelle also has two Thu morning mtgs, so I'll go then. Our Tues am meeting has about 11 LT members who attend and participate regularly. They are recognized every Tues. I'm glad they're part of the Tues morning family. Hope everyone has a great day.

Good Afternoon!
The sun is finally trying to make an appearance here. We lost power twice last night - just long enough to be annoying.
Becky hope you'll soon get relief for your knee pain. Loved hearing about the fitbit cows. Audrey ran hers through the dryer - logged a huge amount of steps! We should start a fun fitbit story thread.
Sulli here's to a better night's sleep tonight.
Hoping everyone enjoys what's left of their day!

Ksbruns- I saw your line about doordie50 and had to go back and reread what she had written. I got a kick out of both the fitbit or the cow being in a dryer!

zazzles I just saw what ksbruns posted in yesterday's thread. That is an interesting question and since you have become the expert in this would you mind sharing some of the real time information you are seeing when you get a chance? Don't be afraid to get all geeky on us, we are nerds, we can take it! Well, they say a picture is worth a thousand words, so here goes. The manufacturer of this CGM is Dexcom in San Diego, CA. www.dexcom.com has great intro information. As for the effect of light activity (as opposed to my pretty much sedentary lifestyle), I used Dexcom's cloud services to view the data from he device as graphs. The following graph shows data from Thursday through Sunday. You can see the substantial decrease in blood glucose on Sunday starting short after 11 AM (purple line). That was shortly after I completed my workout. Notice the low trend continued up until midnight with a spike after dinner. And compare that to the dotted purple (Friday) and dotted blue (Saturday) lines which were the days before I added exercise. The following graph shows data from yesterday and today when I continued the exercise regimen. You'll see that the lines are within the range guidelines except for the spike after 9 PM last night up until about 4 AM this morning. What happened? Last night I snacked on a couple of slices of toasted Oroweat Potato bread and I didn't take a bolus dose of insulin to offset it. The Dexcom sounded an alarm about 12:30 AM and a couple of times after that alerting me that I was above the desired range. After silencing the alarm for the third time, I disengaged myself from the CPAP device and got up and took an insulin bolus. That brought the BG down to a reasonable place by the time I got up around 5:45 AM. Also notice the dotted green line, which represents today after 6 AM. I had breakfast starting with coffee and SF Coffee Mate around 6 and continuing on to steel cut oatmeal somewhat later. You can see the spike from the carbs. I decided that today's exercise would be a leisurely walk; since I work at the library on Tuesday mornings and it sits in our central park, I walked through the park and around a long block which took almost 30 minutes. I started the walk at 8:32 and finished it 8:57, so it was 25 minutes. You can see that just before 9 AM the BG started a significant decline. I think that particular segment demonstrates the benefit of nothing more than a simple walk!

zazzles Thank you for sharing your data. Fascinating to see how exercise can bring a lot of benefits. Did you say how much exercise it took to get these benefits? Sure must be motivating to see these graphs and to know that every little bit helps. 7 years ago, DH was told by his doctor that his A1C number was rising and he was in danger of having diabetes. He didn't want to take meds so the doctor said exercise might help. We started walking at our local mall every morning. We worked up to 2 miles every morning and while we aren't running, we do walk faster than strolling. 6 months later, when his blood was rechecked, his numbers had dropped. Over the years they have continued to stay in a normal range. It definitely motivates us to continue this when the doctor says all the blood work looks great and to continue doing what we're doing. Good luck to you!

Having been a gen ed teacher with many sped kids in my classes and then becoming an administrator I had an eye opening. Some folks are clueless dealing with differences. It was the hardest thing for me to accept. Many went to the sped teacher with a "you fix him" type attitude. You probably don't realize how "special" you are. That is why you are a "special" ed teacher. Bravo for the job you do.

Special Ed teachers have the most difficult job and we are constantly alternating our "bag of tricks" to try to find the best way to met each students needs. I served as a consultant to many special ed teachers and I sincerely hope that I was more helpful than not.

Mike zazzles Let me know what you think of "La-La-Land". I just saw it this afternoon. Glad I saw it with a bunch of gal pals because I know my husband would not have been interested. I liked the music and the acting but the story not so much.
