Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Ginny - I hope you can get a good deal for a sewing machine. What brand does the shop sell? I have loved my Brother sewing machines, but I know there are many other good brands out there. Hope you get to have some extra time at home today since school lets out early. Ruth - I'm glad you are having some warmer weather. How nice of you to make those mittens for the church, I'm sure someone will really appreciate wearing them when the weather gets cold again. I'm tired today since I was up most of the night dealing with the ceiling leaking from the rain. I'm able to catch most of the water in buckets and trash cans, but I want to keep an eye on the ceiling in case it starts to fall in. The rain finally stopped around 6:00 A.M., so I went upstairs to bed then and slept for a few hours. I sent an email to the roofing company to try to see where I'm at on their list. I just keep wondering if I've been wasting my time with this company and if I should have been looking at other places. The hardest thing about all this is that it's all on me. If I had someone to share the burden with and talk things out I know it would help me. My family is at the point where I think they don't want to hear me talk about it anymore so I try not to mention it to them too often. I've always been someone who just needs to talk out a problem/situation and figure out all sides before making a decision. I guess I just need to keep talking it out with myself I think we might be done with the rain for today but we're supposed to have some again on Friday, so I'll be ready for that. Take care everyone!

CJ, I'm sorry to hear that you had a lot of leaking to deal with. In the winter we often have to stay up all night to make sure pipes dont freeze, burst and destroy things so I have a small idea of what it's like but I do have someone to share that burden. It must be hard to have your family not want to hear about your house problems. It would be nice if our family members were more helpful especially yours since they are the ones you have to rely on. You certainly can talk to us about those things but I'm sure its not the same as having someone right there. And believe me, having someone in the house doesnt guarantee that you'll have someone to discuss things with. My dd's husband sure is not someone she can sit and discuss things with. Sometimes a person is better off alone.

hi, ginny check out the eversewn machines. they are made for bernia dealers. mine is the pink one eversewn 30. we did get a good price on that last august.
there are two models under that one. think they are they eversewn 15 and 20. those will be cheaper. I sure love mine for taking to class, and when I sew at home not using my big brother.
try to go through a dealer. some dealers will not work on a machine if it is not bought at their stores .they do then they charge you more. even if you buy a name brand machine and take it to another that you did not buy from you will get charged extra even with a warritany. I don't think it is right.
please say a prayer for my friend joyce. she suddenly lost her brother yesterday afternoon john was going out to work In his shop. he did not come in for lunch or answer his cell phone. so they went looking for john. found him just outside the doors of the barn. they think he was dead before he hit the ground. this is the first sibling joyce has lost. her sister is in a home with demita. the other sister is 90 and just goes and goes.not sure how many siblings joyce has. they are all up in age. she was suppose to fly to d.c.. Thursday. there is a great grandson and granddaughter celebration . now they ae trying to change the flight. this will be a hard week for her. joyce has a great faith so she will get through this.phyl

Good afternoon!!! Ruth, you have me smiling from ear to ear....love llove love your line about βthe dreaded yardwork that takes us away from what we really want to doβ. You stated EXACTLY the way I feel !!!! I got some flowers the other day at Lowes, put them in pots by the front door and wish that I could now magic wand the rest of the house and make the yard work done by doing so. Hope that you can check out the quilt shop an,perhaps, find a class that you might like to take. its exciting just going in to see what they sell- just to get ideas. Congrats on mastering the mittens. You have a very aggressive goal of 20 pair of mittens- but what a nice and caring thing to do. (Bet it will use up a fair amount of yarn too).
No crafting for me today, but I am still looking online at sewing machines for my girlfriend, so we all know that counts!!
Hope CJ, Meg and Phyl are doing well G

Well, as usual, this web site did not refresh before I posted...
Phyl- of course will pray for your friend Joyce. THis must be devastating for her, with such a sudden goodbye. I am glad that she has a strong faith, which you know will help get her though this tragedy. I can imagine with older siblings (and one with dementia) that she feels overwhelmed....thanks for sharing. Also thanks for the information on eversewn machines. I will check them out for sure. Tomorrow I am going to the small LQS and see what she will do on the price of a brother.(she sells them). I would love to buy from her, she is a very nice lady and very helpful. Of course, having someone local to assist with the machine is an asset too.
CJ-find another contractor. NOW. Perhaps because your area was hit so badly that they truly are backed up but you ought to at the very least have your emails responded to- gee, not everyone who works for them is out repairing roofs. Again, go to a local hardware store, or Lowes/Home Depot. I would think they could also supply contractor names for you. Thanks for your advice on Brother machines- I have heard good things about brother as a brand.
Ruth, hope your evening is going well

I've only had one Brother machine and that didn't really work for me but I'm sure it was me and not the machine. I gave it to my ddil and she used it for quite awhile. Now I have a Janome but a very basic one. I got it at a sewing store just for the reason that Phyl gave us..so they would be available to help and fix it if needed. Well after about 50 years in business they went out of business about two years after I bought the sewing machine from them.
CJ, I have to say that I agree with Ginny. If you don't hear from the in response to your email today...or you might want to give them one more day... I'd be looking for a different company. My roofer really put me off too but my roof wasn't leaking so I didn't really mind.
Ginny, how did your day go with having to make that trip to take the little ones home. I'm guessing you still had to go back later in the day again to take the older ones home.
Phyl, I certainly will be praying for Joyce. With her strong faith she will get thru this but prayer helps. We certainly hate for family members to have lingering and maybe painful illnesses but a sudden death like that is a huge shock with no time to say goodbye.
Well dh got up right after I said I'd pick up dirt clumps and he said it was too windy so I got to sit and crochet instead of the dreaded yard work Ginny laughed about. I'm smiling now.
Yes I'm going to put my box of wool ease right here at the end of my couch where it won't be seen by people at my door (seeing any clutter) but will be here for me to pick up and do some mittens.Right now I'm working on anothr pair of fgs.Another one that my dgd liked when she was here so when I finish these that will be two pairs done for her. Only thing is that the pattern writer tells you to start by measuring the widest part of your forearm and make your beginning chain a length that will fit snuggly there. Then she goes on to base the pattern on starting with a chain of 32 and does a bunch of decreases after the first 11 rows to the wrist then goes on to the hand and thumb opening based on a certain numberof stitches. Well I started only with 28 that fit snugly on my arm because my dgd's arm is the same size as mine so I have to work on adjusting this pattern also. I had to stop decreasing after 4 rows when she said to decrease for 8 rows. Wish some pattern would just be ok as written....ok I'm whining...most patterns are. I've just hit two the last couple days that aren't but, as I said most are ok.And no, donating is not a noble thing on my part. I just have the time and yarn and the God given talent to make these things so it's something that I need to do.But thank you Ginny, You are so sweet as is everyone else here. And speaking of sweet people, where is Meg.

Good morning! Well, Ruth, I am praising the Lord for a little wind- as that wind kept you from that dreaded and nasty yard work. Oh I am not afraid of activity,, just hate it that sometimes it seems like you have the yard looking good- 24 hours later the blasted weeds are back or the wind blows more leaves your way.....and I would much rather be crafting.. Great way to use up that wool ease- its a pretty nice yarn to work with .....so glad you can use it up on those mittens.
Yes, indeed, everyone here is sweet and caring....I do love each of you!!!
Got a few things to do and then short errands. One is to go look at sewing machines- am hoping that the small LQS will cut me a deal and match Walmart/Amazons price for that brother.

Ginny, I do hope and pray that the LQS will give you a good price on a nice sewing machine for your friend. Your friend will sure be happy when she sees that gift!
Nice sunny day today although not as warm as yesterday. Saturday is to be 78 and dh will be talking about it being too hot. He's like you, Ginny, and CJ, in that he doesnt like hot weather.
Going to go grocery shopping today and hopefully the IBS/colitis is settled for the day....otherwise it will be a quick trip.
Got one of the fg's done. They're long ones to the elbow and have a cute bow that you make separately and put on. I'm trying to think of a way to attach them do they can be removed and changed then I'll make the bows in a few different colors. I know there are crochet items you on which you put a button so that flowers can be changed. Maybe I should just do that since that wouldn't work with these bows. Let me know if you think of a way.
Meg still didn't check in. I hope she's ok. It's been awhile now.

Hello Crafters
Ginny - I hope you can get a good deal on the sewing machine, let us know what happens.
Phyl - I will keep your friend Joyce in my prayers. How tough to lose someone so suddenly.
Ruth - Hope you were able to get your grocery shopping done.
Meg - Hope you are well and getting some crafting in.
It's a beautiful sunny day here, around 70. Hard to believe it's supposed to rain overnight. I went out and bought some more buckets so I'll line them up to catch any leaking water. I'm going to call the roofing company tomorrow and if they can't give me a more firm date on when they can do my ceiling I'm going to tell them I have to contact some other companies. I can't deal with this leaking for several more months. Thanks everyone for your thoughts and support
I went out and got groceries today and ran errands so I'll be able to be home tomorrow.
Take care!

CJ, I would think that a roofing company would do a roof that is leaking before they would do those that are being done just because the roof is old or the people want a new look or something or just damaged by wind or hail but not leaking. I thought maybe that's what my roofing company was doing so I didn't mind.
Nice to hear you got your shopping done. I did too. It was a tiring trip though because we went to three stores. Haven't had a mistake in the things ringing up in awhile. We used to about 97% of the time. Today though there was a mistake then when I found it and went to the service desk she tried to give me TOO much money back. One of our stores used to have a policy that if something rang up wrong you would get it free and so did Walmart altho wm's was free item or $3 whichever is highest. Neither has that anymore.
Now I'm hoping to be able to just sit and crochet or write letters. Well after I cook dh some chicken legs and clean up the kitchen.
Have a great day everyone and I do hope we hear from Meg.

`Good morning!
Agree, Ruth, hope that Meg gets a chance to check in. Today is Knit wits day for her- and with that in mind, she does ususlly check in on Saturday to tell us if she went or not.
Glad you got your shopping done yesterday. Its frustrating when an item rings up improperly. Think our local store used to have that policy too that if they were wrong on the price it was free. Paitence is definately needed when dealing with customer service though. Did you decide how to attach the bows to the fgs? Glad you were able to get out to several stores and get so much accomplished. I know I become very frustrated when I do not feel well enough to be out when I want to be.
CJ- my hope for you is that by the end of the day you know when you roof will be repaired and by whom. Keep venting if you need to....our homes should be a safe place for us to protect us from harm and the elements. I would imagine violated is a good word to describe how you feel at the moment...that and frustrated. Lets hope for some answers for you very very soon.
Cold and rainy here. My fleece shirt feels so good.
LQS made a nice deal for me on a brother machine for my friend. Will order that machine at 12 when the shop opens. She is giving me the guild discount- even though Ia m not a member- so that the machine meets my budget. Granted my friends DD is paying 2/3 of the machine, and me the last third. But at least my friend will have a nice machine and the support and classes if she likes of a shop nearby. G

Ginny, Im so glad to hear you got a good deal on that machine for your friend. Just sent a prayer of thanks.
I haven't checked but today is supposed to be quite warm and tomorrow 80 so we're at least having a taste of spring.
Didn't do much crafting at all yesterday. Maybe two rows on that fingerless glove. Sat it by the other of the pair and was not happy to see it was smaller until I realized that I had tried the other on several times which stretched it some.so now they match and I just need to finish it. I haven't gotten to the bows yet so haven't solved the question of how to attach.Yesterday shopping was pretty much all I got done. Dh did most of the cooking of dinner. We both were really tired from all the walking. I really need to get in more exercise. I will probably do that yard work today and some walking will be involved. I'll also help dh fix the windshield washer container in the car. I dont know exactly what is wrong with it but all the liquid leaked out for some reason. Dh said what it was but I've forgotten.
See you later

hi, well I think 3 days of bumi n have slowed down. we did have a lot of fun on our quilt shop hopping yesterday .we all spent money. One of the gals spent a lot of money in each store. we left 8 and got back at 5.30. nita still had to go to her embroidery class. after lunch we went to the park and got our picture taken with the quilt cow. (fake statue)she had a stiff crochet hat on with a price tag and flowers around the brim. nita named her Minnie pearl.
I got the results of my a1c back. ruth can you please explain a little about platelets? my number is 917. that is considered high. I did email my doctor this am. so far haven't gotten anything back. I do see him on the 11th. with it being friday I didn't expect a reply. his nurse did confirm they got the email. thank you.
ginny glad they gave you a good deal. now if the son would go In on it. which model of brother is it?

we ate at home tonight. we are staying in. the temps have dropped and the wind has come up and is raw and cold. our high for tomorrow is 59.
time to get in pj's. phyl

My keyboard is doing weird things so hopefully I can get this posted without it being a mess. Phyl, sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. I was crocheting and haven't looked at my computer in awhile.
Yes your platelet count is indeed elevated. The normal is 150,000 to 450,000 with some small variations amoung labs. on the test result record they shorten it to 150-450. You're is over double the highest in the normal range. I'm sure your doctor will have the test repeated to make sure it wasnt some weird lab error. There are many things that can cause platelets to be elevated including mishandling of the blood once it's drawn... well first of all, our platelets are what allows our blood to clot...now on to causes.. one thing that can cause it is anemia...were the rest of your results ok? The hemoglobin and hematocrit? Have you ever had your speen removed? Is this the first time you've ever had an elevated platelet count? It can also be caused by recent surgery but I think your surgery was too long ago to still be affecting your platelet count. It can also be high due to inflammation or inflammatory condition which is a lot of things. Are you having any usual bruises or bleeding such as bleeding gums or nosebleeds? I'm sure when you see your doctor,, if the count is still high he will askquestions and examine you to see if he can see a cause. If he doesn't see anything he will either wait to see if the count comes down or do tests. I would guess that if your count is still high when the test is repeated that they will postpone your surgery. Sorry to have to say that but it is a possibility. Now Im not a doctor so my answer to your question is based only on my experience and studying. Even your regular doctor may not have answers IF YOUR COUNT IS STILL HIGH, and may send you to a hematologist. And sorry about your fridge. That happened to me so I bought a new one and 15 months later the new one died too.
CJ, I'm glad to see you also. Have you heard from the roofing company today? Any great plans for the weekend? Quilt shows are anything?
