Back to say hello,
Ruth, my condolences on the super hot weather. Besides that it is not healthy, some folks just do not take the heat well. Hopefully your temps will cool down - so that you can enjoy being outside when you want to be out. Yes your roses are beautiful. Some roses are fussy and want a lot of attention and care. I do nothing with mine, Well you know that last year was not your year to garden. Perhaps you can take some minimal steps this year to care for your rose, But I know you, you would rather crochet. (So would I!). Congrats on getting your list of upcoming projects organized. That will make your time more productvie... something we all would love to be able to do.
CJ- wow!!!! Sounds like yesterday was a red letter day for you! I am so very happy for you that you won that basket. Bet that (and the gift card) will provide lots of inspiration for you to craft. Just think- about 2 or 3 months ago you were not super inspired to craft- and now you have won such a wonderful prize. The quilt you bought sounds really nice too- great way to practice hand quilting. Do you like the quilt- I wonder what you will do with it when its done. Cannot wait to hear what else is in the basket when you open it.
Meg, glad you were able to get your hands on the next Poldark book. Nothing better than a good book....and we know you enjoy that series. Perhaps I will try to read them this summer. I wonder if there is good guidance online for how to get your body clock reset. Must be so frustrating wanting to sleep- not being able to, but being so tired that when you do finally fall asleep its during normal daylight. Have you spoken to your doctor about it? Could there be a medical reason?
Today is my only normal day- regents exams begin tomorrow. I have a dress that I want to figure out how to shorten, its for a wedding and I have never worked with chiffon before. It is a gorgeous dress, I want it a bit shorter so its less formal. We have a wedding to attend in early july. Also have to pick out a paint color for the spare bedroom. I picked up some paint chips yesterday - want the room to match a quilt that I am planning on making. I have the fabric for the quiilt already. Guess that will be my crafting for the day.
Have a good day all Ginny

Hey Phyl, Will continue to pray for you. My scripture reading this am was Proverbs 3- verses 5-7 Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;, in all your ways acknowledge him and he will keep your patths straight. Its a wonderful verse- espeically because he wants us to trust him and seek him for everything- God wants us to be close to him. We can never know before hand what the outcome of our situations will be, but we do know that God loves us and will never leave us nor forsake us. Ginny

Happy new week everyone.
Last night I went to bed late and soon after we heard a loud noise on our porch. Dh went to investigate and saw what looked like a urine trail across the porch. He never did see an animal but thought maybe he scared whatever it was and caused it to do that as it ran off the porch.Racoons can be very noisy but, of course, the mountain lion the neighbors claim killed their dog came to mind. We also saw the flaslight of someone else investigating and some other odd flashes way back toward the mountain so don't know what that was about.
PHyl, prayers will be increased as we come close to the day you're supposed to find out the results. I do hope and pray that they do get them to you and that they are good news.
Ginny, sorry you're going to have a super busy day. I never worked with chiffon either. I did make dgd's little gowns for my dd's wedding to her current husband. There were three girls then. Satin is a hard fabric to work with and my sewing machine had a history of not working well but God had to be guiding everything because it all worked well. The dress for the youngest one who was about 3 at the time was expecially pretty. I do hope you're able to get the dress shortened to where you like it to be. Two of my grandchildren are supposedly getting married this fall. I have no idea what their plans are for the weddings so we'll see what happens.
As predicted, today is much cooler that the last few days. WE'll be going out tomorrow unless whatever made the noises keeps us up late again.
They do have a lot of suggestions for what they call "sleep hygiene" to get people to a regular sleeping pattern but I don't think most of the suggestions would work for me and maybe wouldn't work for you either Meg but you could try them. ONe thing they saw is don't use your bedroom for anything but sleep and "intimate activities"....well I think most of us use our bedrooms to watch tv, read, eat, a little crafting or whatever. They say that if you can't get to sleep get up and do something until you think you can get to sleep. Well that doesnt work for me either. They say not to take any naps. Well sometimes you have to because you're so tired from not sleeping that you can't function. They do give a lot of suggestions though. Melatonin doesn't work for me and dyphenhydramine which is in all the otc sleep aids actually has just the opposite effect on me...makes me hyper and awake.Sleeping late works for me until I have to go somewhere early in the day.Dh has an even worse sleeping schedule than I do...as in no schedule.
Well I'll quit blabbing and go water my plants. See you all later.

Ginny, you popped in while I was typing. Yes thats one of my favorite verses and I had it as my avatar for awhile. It sure pertains to Phyl's situation. God has a plan for all of us. Sometimes they are hard for us to understand but yes, He loves us and will never forsake us. He is always with us. We don't have to go to a certain place or use a certain time of the day to talk with Him. Bible says "pray without ceasing". We can pray all day anytime we want to do so.

Hello Crafters Phyl - I'm keeping you in my thoughts and prayers and hope that everything goes well this week. It is fun winning a gift with quilting supplies and goodies, isn't it? The basket that the supplies came in is nice and strong. I have another basket that I put my crochet projects in when they are still in progress. I like to look at the pretty yarn colors. Ginny - Hope your week isn't too crazy, sounds like you have lots to do. I do like the quilt I bought and might keep it for myself. I've never given any of my quilts away, but I haven't finished many of them either Ruth - Hope it's just a small animal around your house, I'm sure you and your DH will be careful. Meg - I hope you can get back on a normal sleep plan. I've had some nights where I can't get to sleep until early in the morning. I'll feel tired but then can't get to sleep. It's very frustrating since when I was younger I slept all through the night and was a very sound sleeper. I'm glad you have a new book to read. I'm doing pretty well today. It's cloudy and in the 60s here. We were supposed to have rain all day but it must have stayed out to the west. I had thought about getting all those things I bought put away in my sewing room but didn't get to that, hopefully I will this week. Take care everyone!

Good evening.
Ruth, i wonder if its worth it to try to remove/eliminate the scent of the urine trail. Would think that white vinegar would do the trick. Hope you got your plants watered- and everything done today that was on your list.
CJ- that is really cool that you are considering keeping that quilt for yourself. I have a feeling that this quilt you will finish!!
The next 2 weeks will be busy- regents always is a busy time of year. Nice to end the year with a good paycheck!!
Have a good night all Ginny

I got the scoop on the mountain lion. Apparently it was determined that it was indeed a mountain lion because of the damage to the dog.. I won't go into detail. Apparently the Game and Fish dept came and put out live traps so that they could trap and relocate it but haven't got it yet. I maybe should have called them to tell them it was probably on my porch last night. And it turns out that it's the dog of some people we see walking their dogs past here all the time. It was a cute Airedale. The people had two of them. I don't know why they were out at night. Maybe they have a doggie door and it had to go out.
Well CJ, there's always tomorrow to put away the things you bought in the sewing room tomorrow. I also think that if you love to do quilt tops and enjoy having them that you shouldn't feel that you have to make them into completed quilts. When we feel compelled to do something either because of the opinion of others, and sometimes thats even a false belief, or because our own conscience makes us feel we have to complete a project, it's no long enjoyable. I say do what you enjoy when it comes to your crafts and nothing you don't enjoy.I used to sleep like a log too. I could fall asleep anywhere, anytime and not wake till morning Those days are long past. Funny thing is though, when my children were small they could make the slightest sound and I would hear them. otherwise an earthquake could level the house and I wouldn't have heard it.I never thought I'd ever have trouble falling and staying asleep

Ruth, so it was a mountain lion! Wow, I know we have them here, recently I heard of one that was hit by a car a bit north of here- and that caused quite a stir. Not many. Mountain lions here, for sure. Yes, I get it, those pet doors are great, but seriously installing a fenced in dog run would keep the animals safe. Even where I am we have coyotes, racoons and foxes. That is why I bring in our outside cat every evening- even when he wants to stay out.
I too used to be able to sleep anywhere....not sure how this will all work out when I retire. Now I do literally collapse at the end of some days. Day 1 of regents, which is a lot of driving. Makes for a good paycheck however. Told my dept head last night that I am retiring and submitted my letter of resignation. She has asked me to come back and substitute drive and help with driver evaluations. On a limited basis, I would be happy to do that.
Lovely weather today, which is supposed to get a bit warmer as the week goes on.
Have a great day Ginny

Good afternoon everyone, today our temp. will reach 100 and it is already hot so I turned the A/C on early and I have fans going to circulate the air. I haven't done any crafting for a few days. The book I am reading is not a audio book but it will be finished soon. I have my name on the waiting list for the next book in the series. I will stay home today and do some decluttering that is something that never ends. My church is having a yard sale this weekend and I have 2 big bags of clothes from my closet that I am going to donate. I did sleep well last night.
Ginny, that is wonderful that you are going to retire. Soon you will wonder how you ever found time to go to work. I am sure you and your DH have plans of lots of things you want to do. Do you have any travel plans ?
Ruth, that is scary having a mountain lion on your porch. I guess it was searching for food. We have 2 big rivers flowing through Sacramento and they attract lots of animals. I don't live too far from one of the rivers but I never go along the river pathways. A woman out jogging one morning was killed by a lion. Closer to where I live I often see wild turkeys or chickens. I hope the mountain lion does not come back to visit you.
phyl, I hope you are keeping well, I will keep you in my prayers.
cj, I hope you are enjoying the contents of your gift basket.
I hope you are enjoying a cool day and low humidity. Here we do not have much humidity if any which makes the heat more bearable. Have a wonderful day.

Ginny, I must have been typing while you were posting because I missed your last two last night. I'm glad you found a youtube on hemming chiffon. I hope it's as easy and she made it seem. Yes this extra work for these two weeks will make a good deposit in your retirement enjoyment fund. And congratulations on retiring. I hope they don't call you too often to sub and do evals. I know you're a great conscientious worker and I'm sure they hate to see you leave. And yes, Meg is right, soon you'll wonder how you ever found time to work. Time is like money...things expand to use it.
I was thinking of white vinegar too for that urine trail. I use white vinegar for a lot of things. It also is a good disinfectant.
Yes I forgot about the cayotes and foxes. We did have a flock of wild turkeys in the neighborhood but they've disappeared.
We went shopping today and to walmart to return some things. We didn't really shop there but there were two things I wanted to get there and I did. I got all the stuff put away and have cut up chicken pieces, put the backs on to simmer for broth and have the pieces we're going to eat marinating in buttermilk. I forgot to take my phone so thankfully we didn't need it. Dh is always worried that the car is going to break down and we won't be able to call anyone.
I only have two neighbors that I ever chat with so was chatting with the woman that has lived in the neighborhood even longer than I have a couple days ago. She asked me why I don't ever use my other vehicle... I thought that was really strange because she has no windows on the side of her house that faces our house so I wondered how she even knows which car I drive. Odd question anyway. The other neighbor is a man who moved here well maybe 15 years ago. We were surprised when he just starting doing things like mowing out lawn even before he had ever met us.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today phyl - I love your colorful kittens avatar Meg - Hope you get some cooler weather soon! I'm glad you are enjoying your book. Ginny - Congratulations on your upcoming retirement. So you won't be going back full time in the Fall, just working as a substitute sometimes? I think you'll adjust to retirement really well, especially with those DGKids you have and the many crafts you enjoy. Ruth - How scary to have a Mountain Lion at your house, I hope they catch it soon. And that's sad about the dog. I'm glad you got your shopping done. I never thought I'd be a nosy neighbor but I find that since I'm home so much I do tend to look at the windows and watch what the neighbors are doing I agree about the quilting. I was thinking today that I really would just love to lay out all my fabric all over the place and just enjoy looking at it and touching it. I love doing that almost as much as making the quilt top! It's the finishing that doesn't bring me any pleasure and I've come to accept that (mostly). I definitely live in the suburbs compared to all of you. The only wildlife around here are deer sometimes, ground hogs, bunnies and birds. I had a dental cleaning today and fortunately everything looked good. I hate going to those and then having to come back for other work to be done. I also ended up having to buy a new window AC unit for my bedroom. The one in there is only a year old but this morning when I tried to turn it on, it was dead. It's a small unit and not expensive, so I just bought a new one and have already changed them out since we're supposed to get to 90 degrees tomorrow. I have been unplugging it when I didn't need it because I'd heard of one of these catching on fire once, so I wonder if that caused it to short out. I'm just going to leave the new one plugged in and hope for the best. Take care everyone!
