Hello everyone, I had a busy day yesterday and I have not done any crafting since Friday. The book I am reading is not audio so I need to finish it so that I can get back to crafting. Last evening DS and I went out to dinner with friends. we tried a different restaurant and it was OK. But at least I didn't have to cook. Our temp today will reach 91 and by Sat. it will be 105 so I will be staying close to home. I need to go to the store otherwise I will stay home the rest of the day.
Ruth, that is interesting that dgs is off on a mission and I am sure he will be fine getting there though it would be nice if he had a companion. Oh I see he is going with a group, so he will be OK. I will pray for him as he goes off on his adventure. Let us know how he is doing that is if he has time to write home.
Ginny, sorry that your weather is uncomfortable and hope you get some cooler days. I am glad you have an A/C in your bus which will help a little. I hope you don't have too many more days before you don't have to work anymore. You said you hope to go to DC, that would be quite a trip. DS took his 2 girls there a few years ago when they were teenagers. I imagine you will do a lot of walking while you are there. It would be interesting to see all the historic buildings there.
cj, I hope you are keeping cool and that you are enjoying your new A/C. We keep cool with our A/C and also use some fans to circulate the air. Other than that I don't do a lot if I can help it.
Phyl, It is never too early to start working on your Santa Claus. I knit a Santa about 3 years ago and I only have to sew him up and stuff him but he was put away and forgotten about. Shame on me. I hope you stick with it and get yours finished. Hope the rain has cleared up for you.
I wish you all a great cool and dry day.

Ruth if someone is handy, installing a window AC through the wall is not such a big deal- and takes minimal carpentry skills. I too have 2 rooms I want to paint, the small bedroom (has not been painted in 12 years) and the kitchen- where I will use up what we have in the house.. Our kitchen is small.....
yes, Phyl, hope the dentist visit went well. A necessary evil, but its so important to do.
Kids on the bus were awful and they heard about it from me. What a shame to have to crack down on the little critters so late in the year, but I cannot let them act like animals.

CJ- enjoy that tea!!!! Do you drink as much tea in the summer as in the winter?
Meg, stay home and stay safe.....those temps are dangerously hot- but I am sure you know that. Are you enjoying the book?

Meg, We saw on the weather channel that your temps are going to get up to 105, 106. That is way too hot so, yes, please stay inside and stay hydrated. Will you get to go to Knitwits? I don't know if that's one of the super hot days or not but if it is it's probably best to stay home.Enjoy finishing your book, My son and grandaughter are going in a group but grandson is traveling alone. He's there now. Ds and dgs are still in route. They had a long layover in Zurich so got to see Switzerland while there.
CJ, yes sometimes you get a lot of repeats of the figurines but actually I've pretty much always got a variety. I never open all my boxes at one time so I don't know what I have in the others I have not opened yet.
Ginny, I'm glad you let the kids know that horrible behavior will not be tolerated. I'm sure they're antsy wanting school to be over but they still need to behave.
Well after dh finished his research on a/c's for the last two days we ended up going out and getting one. It's a window air conditioner so now he's making decisions on where to put it and I think he finally has decided. He does have a problem with decisions and I hate to just make the decisions because I don't want him to think that I'm being bossy. Ginny, I don't know about CJ but I pretty much drink hot beverages all year round. My dh on the other hand, drinks iced beverages all year even when it's super cold.
I made my dgd's crown today and am now thinking of making her another. I got some metallic red while out. I had made the other in metallic blue so maybe I'll save that one for her little brother
Well I'm going to go do kitchen cleaning and then turn the washer on when dh finishes his shower that he's taking right now.
See you all tomorrow and get some wonderful sleep

Ya gotta love my sister in law in Florida. I was texting her, telling her about the really cute cross stitch I saw in ther Herrschnerrs catalog. I was hoping she would be a voice of reason and convince me not to spend the $10 on it, as I already have so many projects to complete. She told me to go buy the kit!!! ha ha ha

I definitely agree with your sister in law. Buy the kit. And I did think of youwhen I saw they were having a sale on crosstitch, etc and had a flat rate shipping right now. Usually their shipping charges are way too high. You're going to have lots of time now. Well I'm sure you'll be spending a lot of time with the grandchildren and the rest of the family but you'll still have time. If you go on trips you can do crafts while riding in the car or on a plane or whatever ( I never could crochet in the moving car but I usually drive anyway..dh dislikes driving)
I've spent the morning trying to learn to do chainless single crochet aka single crochet foundation. I do ok for a bunch of stitches then all of a sudden I look back and see a mistake that is a glaring one that has to be fixed. It's a nice thing. For instance this crown I made for dgd is tight around the head because of the chain..the chainless is stretchy and would be much more comfortable. The chainless foundation is great for a lot of things and of course you can do it in any stitch not just single
It's warmer here today and I could do yard work but I'm not going to. At least not right now. If my dh, when he wakes from his nap, decides to mow then I'll go out and do some things too. Otherwise I'm going to learn this technique.
Plenty of food is made and although I was going to make him a strawberry/rhubarb crisp last night he mentioned he was hungry for homemade cookies so instead of crisp I made him peanut butter, oatmeal cookies and he still has some of his father's day jam bars.Strawberries are in the freezer and rhubarb may either join them or be cooked just for rhubarb sauce for me
And speaking of Herrschners I'm avoiding them because I ordered yarn from them and then found that walmart has the same yarn cheaper. My own fault of course but I'll blame them. Gotta stay away from buying yarn anyway

Hello Crafters Meg - Hope the weather isn't too hot for you, hopefully you are keeping cool in the house and being careful when you go out. Ruth - I found some rhubarb at the store today too. I can't wait to use it with some strawberries. I want to get more to freeze like I did last year. Ginny - Sorry the kids on the bus were bad, I'm sure this time of year just gets them a little crazy thinking about school ending and Summer ahead. Tomorrow is the last day, right? Phyl - Hope you are getting some crafting in and continuing to feel better. I do still drink hot tea in the Summer, but I've cut it back to about 1-2 cups a day. I'm drinking a lot more iced tea now. I stayed up until 1:00 A.M. last night playing around on my Kindle Fire - playing Cross Stitch World. It's an App that gives you a picture and then a bunch of thread colors and you have to pick a thread color and then mark off the corresponding blocks on the chart/picture. It's kind of fun, but after you get about half way through you do get tired of clicking on all those small boxes. I had trouble getting to sleep since I had seen a big black bug on my curtains in my bedroom when I went up to bed. It was about 1 inch long and I have no idea what kind of bug it was - something I'd never seen before. I captured it in a cup and disposed of it. Then I saw a silverfish, which I do get from time to time. I guess they are coming in around the air conditioners in my windows. I've put tape all around them and reinforced it today. I also read that they don't like cinnamon, so I put some cinnamon sticks around the windows. My skin just kept crawling thinking about being asleep and not being able to see them. I need to find a bug/pest free place to live - I know they don't exist though Take care everyone!

Good evening!!
CJ- so sorry that insects are bugging you- hope that you can rest better tonight and that the bugs stay outside where they belong. Cross stitch app sounds like a lot of fun.....guess these are all things I have to investigate when I am retired.
Ruth-I did a chainless foundation once, and it came out ok. I am sure that with time you will master it and do very well with it. Perhaps putting it down for a few hours will help. Also maybe watching several different you tubes- for a different perspective.
Hi to Meg and Phyl-
Sorry, its such a long week...and I had to go back to the doctor today for a different antibiotic for my UTI. Hope that this works.
Gotta get some sleep for the last day. Have a great night. Ginny

CJ, it's amazing how bugs can get into the house. It takes very little space for them to crawl through. We usually have boxelder beetles in the spring and earwigs. I hate earwigs. We have lots of spiders too including black widows. I just love when I'm trying to get to sleep and see a spider on the wall right in front of my face...nope.
We had a thunder storm about a half hour ago with a little rain then the sun came out brightly and we have a magnificent double rainbow. Well now another thunder storm
I did a bunch of rearranging downstairs earlier today and still have a bunch to do in order to put the air conditionere there but also to make room for things in the bedroom to come out to the family room so that we can paint in there. I definitely need to start sending some of these Matchbox and Hot wheel vehicles I have to the grandchildren. I could open a store. I'll give some to dgs to give to his son and the other great grandson in Montana and I'll send a bunch to the other grands.Probably the dgs that is turning 13 thinks he's too old for them now but just last year he still loved them. Hey, I like them myself!
Ginny, I'm glad to hear you got the new antibiotic. I hope you'll soon be feeling better. And one more day and you'll be a retiree!!
I'll check in later to see if Meg posts. I know she posted yesterday so maybe she won't today. But otherwise I'll see you all tomorrow.
I did do a foundation double crochet once for the beard hats I made for ds and dgs but it seemed really hard at the time. When I started this single crochet foundation it seemed easy....seemed being what it turned out to be. It wasn't as easy as I thought and I thought I was doing it correctly each stitch.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Ginny - You'd enjoy that Cross Stitch app, but be prepared to lose an hour of so of your life Ruth - That rainbow sounds beautiful, I'm constantly surprised and amazed at the beauty of nature. Hope you can get the air conditioner set up soon. Meg and Phyl - Hope you are both getting in some crafting. I went out to lunch today with friends, to Olive Garden. The food was good, but I felt a bit disappointed that I couldn't really get what I wanted to eat. But I just can't afford the calories. I still struggle with resentment that I have to watch every bite I eat. The weather here is rainy and cool, but supposed to be warmer with thunderstorms tomorrow. For those that enjoy baking shows, The Great British Baking Show is back on PBS tonight. My local station is showing two episodes, one at 9 PM and one at 10 PM. This show is an older one, from 2012 I think, since they are showing them out of sequence here in the US. But it's a "new" one for US viewers. I love this show, it's just so stress relieving to watch and I love how polite everyone is. Take care everyone!

Good evening!
CJ- so glad that you are able to catch another series of GBBS! I know how you enjoy it and well a good television show is like a good friend- reliable and comforting. I will have to check out my own local PBS stations. while I am not quite the huge fan of this show that you are, I really did enjoy it and can understand why you like it so very much. Olive Garden is such a good restaurant. When we go, which is not that often, I usually order what I like- but also order the “doggie bag box” immediately so that I divide my entree in half immediately to bring the rest home. You are in good company here- we all have to watch every bite and this is a life long struggle for each of us. Its ok to allow yourself to slip up on a meal- that is what the additional points are for- and get back on track the next day. And we are all here to support you....
Ruth, sounds like you have been very busy rearranging your house and getting ready to paint. All this work must have things very disheveled- and that can be so unnerving. GLad you are getting some rain. The double rainbow is quite a treat to see.
Well, all the kids are home, and I am retired. Day went well- and I am very glad it is all over. RIght now I am tired.....so see you tomorrow. G

Well I got quite a bit done today except for coming here. I finished my last fingerless glove for awhile. I had made the first of the pair about a week ago and now that the pair is done I don't expect to be making more fingerless for awhile. I finished the crown I was making using the foundation sc yesterday. I did some cleaning today then was helping dh install the window air conditioner we just bought. Well I didn't know it was going to be such a big deal to install it but we have terrible windows and had to find other materials to use and improvise. Finally got finished with taht about 8pm.
Ginny, huge congratllations of joing us in being a retired person!! Did your coworkers do anything special for you?
CJ, my dh reminded me yesterday about PBS and I told him about you mentioning several programs they have on there. Yes I'm the same as Ginny. When out I do order what I like most and make up for it by eating pretty much non caloric foods the rest of the day and being careful for a couple days. Yes It's very, very easy to put the weight back on. I've sure done that a lot in my life. No more though. I'm staying at this weight.I do eat a lot of what I like even though it's supposed to be a "no-no" but I still weigh most days and if I see I'm up a pound or so I get right back on track until I get it back off.And I don't really believe in eliminating foods just eating the higher calories or point foods in moderation and/or just once in awhile.
Hi also to Meg and Phyl. I hope you both had good days.

Here goes. Better late than never. I have had trouble getting computer time. Devin is forever on it. Then DS gets on just about the time I am going to sit down and the DGD spent all yesterday on here and again this evening. She never uses the computer at home so I don't know what she is up to. Last night it was almost midnight when I was able to check my e-mail. I haven't checked it today but I will before I go to bed. I did go to Knit Wits today. Not to many people there. Probably they stayed home because of the heat. I have a good A/C in my car so I went. The house is comfortable and we expect it to be 105 tomorrow. On Tue. I will be going up the coast for a few days. We will be staying at a friends beach house. I love to be by the ocean and it should be cooler there.
Ruth, I am glad you have finally finished with all your gloves .. at least for awhile. Years ago we had window A/Cs and they are not always easy to install. My DH worked at night and slept in the day time so we switched to central air and we also have it at this house.
Ginny, so you are finally finished working and I do wish you a happy retirement. I know you will find lots to keep you busy. I hope you are recovering from your UTI and that you are feeling better.
cj, I drink hot tea all year round. I find hot tea refreshing. I don't like iced tea. I have never tried the Rose tea bags and I haven't seen them here. What programs are you watching on TV? I am watching Poldark on Sunday evening an I am now reading book #8. I think the title is the Fiddlers Dance. The first 6 books were audio books but the rest of the series are not audio books though I can read them on my Nook. So I have not been doing much crafting this week. But I will take something to work on while I am away.
Phyl, I hope you are well and that your weather is not too hot.
Sleep well and stay cool.

Good morning,
Meg, indeed it is a pain when you want to get to the computer even for official business and others have it monopolized. In my case Dd and DSIL bought me the IPAD several years ago- it was actually a combo CHristmas gift to Dh and me, but its purpose was to be a back up for the computer that Dh hogs. (Which happens a lot!) I would be happy to send you some Red Rose tea in the mail if you wanted to give them a try. Its a nice tea- a bit less harsh than Lipton. SO glad you have central air- which sure does make life easier!! Its more quiet too.. Hope you can check in before you leave to spend a few days at the beach. What project do you think you will pack with you to work on? Beach is great as long as there are cool breezes... I have this cute image in my head of you in a really comfy chair on a screened in porch reading or crochetting with some lovely ocean breezes. Here is wishing you a wonderful and safe time away. If you cannot check in to see us we will miss you!!
Ruth, congrats on getting the window AC in. Yes, its a job- I have one that we put in Dd’s bedroom every year and its a struggle. I take it out each year so that we can close up with window to keep the New York winters out. That AC should make your home much more comfortable in the warm summer days- I cannot imagine its very uncomfortable without it. Bet that is quite a feeling of accomplishment getting the last FG done. Did you ever count how many pairs you made in total? What is on your agenda for your next project??
Today I start to regain the order in my home. It looks awful right now, BBL Ginny
