Good morning Meg and Ginny and those that come in later. Meg, I'm glad you got to go to Knitwits. As for the computer, maybe you could set a time that is all yours on the computer and maybe limit Devin's computer time. My dh used to hog the computer so when ds visited and put in wifi I was thrilled because then I bought a laptop and dh bought a new desk top so now we each have our own.Going to the beach sounds like a lot of fun. I'd love to see the ocean again.About 4 years ago dh and I thought about driving to the Oregon coast but then we saw how far it was and how long it would take because of the back roads we would have to take and changed our minds. ONe of the ladies on the old WW board and on a thread I was on lived in NJ and was planning a trip to the "shores" so next thing I knew a package arrived for me and it in was three little bottles with Jersey shore sand, tiny shells, and Atlantic Ocean water.
Well I do still have to do all the weaving in on most of the fingerless gloves and add the little appliques then I'll be completely done with them. I made several more pairs since I last counted so I think I have about 38 pairs done. Next will be mittens, birthday gifts including the Bible covers, and the Christmas tree skirt...oh and baby blankets. And I still have to embroider the face on the tooth fairy pillow and sew him together and stuff him.One of the things I'm going to make for the one dgd is a ragdoll giraffe. Her favorite animal used to be zebras but in a letter to me she said that now her favorite is giraffes so the ragdoll giraffe struck me as something she would like to have to sit on her bed.And I'm going to make her a lap blanket for when she's reading or doing her school work.
Today I need to go out and pull weeds. We have a rather pretty weed that is an invasive species and it sure is invading. There are a LOT of them in my yard and in the gravel in the gardens in back of the house.I need to get rid of them because they're getting really big already and could harbor snakes.
Oh and yes, we're already thinking about having to take this air conditioner out in the fall and putting it back in in the spring. Should be easier than yesterday though since we know what to do now to make it fit.meanwhile I'm still thinking of getting another one to put in the living room

Hello Crafers Ginny - How was your last day? Did they do any recognition for you? I hope you are looking forward to the Summer and then having more time for yourself and your family in the Fall. Phyl - Hope you are doing well. Ruth - All of your projects sound so interesting. I smiled thinking about your DGD writing you a letter and mentioning the giraffe. Meg - A trip to the shore sounds wonderful, I hope you have a wonderful time. I love the beach. I used to go to the Outer Banks in North Carolina every other year or so but it's been many years since I was there. I'm thinking I should try to go back again. I haven't been watching much of the Summer shows on PBS. I will watch The Great British Baking show and the first two shows last night were really good. I've also been re-watching the last season of Victoria since one of my stations was showing it again. I've really enjoyed all of that show. As for tea, when I make Ice Tea I still use Lipton tea bags, I like those the best for that. For hot tea I've been drinking Twinings English Breakfast Tea, the Red Rose tea, and sometimes the Tetley Green and Black tea (a mix of green and black teas). I've been enjoying watching Royal Ascot this week. Today was the last day. I've always been an Anglophile and have also followed the Royal Family for years. It was so fun to see all the lovely hats and outfits all the women were wearing and also I like to see the Queen each day when she arrives in the carriage. I cleaned the rhubarb this morning and half of it I froze. The other half I cooked and then halved that too - one plain and one I added strawberries to it. I put some equal and cinnamon in the rhubarb-strawberry sauce and it was so good. I'm going to try stirring in some of the plain sauce into some vanilla yogurt and see how that is. I had a funny dream last night that I was holding a quilt show at my house and out in my yard Guess I need to get back to my quilting. Take care everyone!

Good evening,
Ruth, sounds like you have a plan getting the airconditioners in and out for the winter. They sure make the house more comfortable, but I dislike how they cut out the light that comes in through the window. But I would rather be comfortable and its important to stay cool when the weather gets really warm. Hey you made a tooth fairly pillow? Was it easy? Guess I got you started on that one.....which directions/instructions did you follow?
CJ- when I get done with this I am going to get my DVR set up for GBBS. I too enjoy watching British culture, and while I would not say that I follow the Royal Family much, I do have a minor fascination with them. Glad you got that rhubarb put up- now you can enjoy it year round, when we are all looking for interesting foods to eat. For me, tea is either green- brand is irrelevant, or Tetley British blend, or some absolutely amazing blackberry flavored black tea I get at the Bird In Hand Farmers markey- its an Amish farmers market. twinings English breakfast is good too, as are Red Rose or Salada. I am really not all that fussy. Dreaming about quilts eh?? Guess that means you ought to be quilting!!
Well, it looks like Dd’s sewing machine has broken and is not worth repairing. She has my MIL’s kenmore to finish her rag quilt, and that is working out fine. Its a much older machine, but probably made to last. I got a little done on the pillow case this am. I did a lot of cleaning and trying to get the house back in order. Did not sleep well last night- so I slept a bit late this am. Pretty sure we are heading to the fireworks tonight- which are in a little bit.
Yesterday, I took all the kiddies home and was cleaning my bus (we have to leave the bus in top shape for the summer). I got a radio call from the office to go inside, and figured well something was up. Sure enough there was a small get together for me- they gave me a picture collage of some of my 17 years there, and of course a small cake. It was simple- only a handful of people were there (maybe 10- we have 70 drivers and 15 monitors). It was ok, the director got me aside and told me that i did not give her much time to prepare for my retirement. I completed the paperwork with the state on May 8, told my director about 3 weeks ago that I had filed to retire. I wanted nothing big- that is not the type of person I am. Since then I have gotten a few texts from coworkers who cannot believe I retired. I will be back but in a very limited capacity and will work when I want to. The families on my route were wonderful and very generous and gracious. THey knew me as the office did not- they knew the quality of my work and how much I loved the kids. Really, their thanks was all I was looking for. Driving the kids home, well I had to tell off a middle school girl who has been an unrestrained brat for 2 years....and my elementary was a bit emotional. I cried twice, saying goodbye to the elementary principal who has been so supportive of me for 15 years, and at the last stop. 5 of the 7 kids at that stop left the bus in tears.......and of course I was touched by their sadness- will miss those kids.
But today is day one of retirement- got a little bit of gardeining done too. Now am trying to just slow myself down a bit as I have more time. Have a good night Ginny

hi crafters, yesterday was wi up .26. it is what is it is.
I could not make up my mind if I wanted to go to sit and sew today.about 8 pm last night nita and I made up our minds to go.I almost backed out this am.
I have sewn these fabric boxes before. today was not my day. sewing did not go right then the machine started acting up.so I came home.
nita should have stayed home also.she got a lesson today.her machine acted up.so cindy helped her. nita has never cleaned out the bobbin are and under it. we broke for lunch.
nita turned on the machine would not work. she changed the needle, rewound the bobbin, retreaded the machine. finally cindy found out what it was.
the arm on the cutter was sticking out and thread was wrapped around that.
I am going to my playpen and get my portable macnine cleaned and ready for tuesday. phyl

Speaking of tea, I looked in a cupboard we don't use much and was reminded of the pitcher size tea bags that dh bought back when he used to drink iced tea all the time. We had gallon size and quart size. He started drinking iced coffee instead so I found that some of the boxes of these bags were pretty old so cut open the bags, dumped the tea into an old coffee can and will mix it with the soil in my garden. I also had some flavored teas. I can't drink a lot of tea and coffee like I used to because of the possibility of it causing a flareup of IC but dh was happy to see it because he said he would make iced tea out of it too...he's going to try to use up the bags that are newer.
I went out and pulled weeds. Those that are the invasive species I mentioned earlier were like bushes, they had grown so much with all the rain we've been having. It was hot out there especially on the south side of the house but shortly after I came back in it clouded up and we've had about three thunder storms since then. I still have more weeds to pull and grass around the borders to cut but sure won't be doing any more today
Then I came in to rest and crocheted a bunch of little hearts. There's a nice pattern for little heart bracelets and of course little girls like bracelets so I'll make the hearts into those bracelets.I may start on the Christmas tree skirt later this evening..well it's after 6 already...but maybe something else I'm not sure.
Ginny congrats on getting in some embroidery time.
I can't DVR that program because I don't get local channels on Direct. My locals are with an antenna. I'll have to see if I can find it since it won't be listed on the channel guide.
Ginny, when I retired I'd already been off work for three months using up my sick time. The Director of nursing, when I told her that I wasn't coming back and instead was retiring asked if I wanted to have one of the usual retirement receptions and I told her no. I'm not much into things like that either. It sounds like you had a nice little get together but an emotional time saying goodbye to the people you liked best.
When I left NY they had a party for me with the people I worked with and then some of those I had worked with previously had a get together at my best friend's home so I was well partied back then.

I just made this really nice crochet beaded bracelet for my youngest grandaughter. The beads were alphabet beads. It's a good thing I bought two packs because her name has an H in it and the first pack had not H's!!! The second pack had only two but several of every other letter including Q's. I put a heart bead before and after her name.

Happy Sunday!!
Ruth, those bracelets sound adorable- perfect for a younger granddaughter. I am sure she will LOVE it. Yes, quality control on crafting items is not always what it ought to be. Of course all letters should be in each pack of alphablet beads. Good thinking that you had purchased two packs. So sorry you went outside to pull weeds. I know you would rather be inside having fun with yarn. I am sure that your weeding makes things look better anyway. Funny how some weed species just seem to thrive on our properties. I planted feverfew (a colonial herb/flower) years ago, and now it seems to be in all kinds of different places. Thanks for reminding me not to drink too much tea. Reading about how you have to watch how much you consume reminded me that I am much better off drinking water.
Phyl, being up a small amount like that is nothing to worry about. You have been through a very stressful period and that you did not gain 5 pounds in stress eating is a wonderful thing. Glad you got out to sit and sew. Guess there was something in the air with sewing machines breaking....yes get your portable machine out and ready to play. think we have all had those days when we were not meant to sew- either the machine was hormonal or perhaps we were! I usually just walk away from the project and do something else- and come back another time.
Went to church this am with Dd.....think Dh wants to go to Walmart in a little bit. Its getting hot out there too. Yuck. Hope we get some rain tonight, we are supposed to. Its so dry out there.

Good morning Ginny and Meg, CJ, and Phyl
Ginny, just the opposite here with all the unusual rain were having here. Of course the rain we get dries up fast. We rarely have puddles like you have back east. The winds are dry and dry everything...like clothes on lines, your hair, and the ground really fast.I'm not going to pull weeds today because it's TOO cold..only in 50's. I have some things in the house I might do or I might just sit and crochet.
I did get all the things I had planned to make for the youngest dgd's birthday now I'll start on things for the other girls and I found the cutest tic tac toe game pattern yesterday. I've seen others but this one is better.I'm going to make it for dgs who will be five at the end of October...can't believe he's that old already. And I want to make him a bag for his hot wheel cars and of course I'll put a bunch of them in there before I send it.I just had a thought about making it with fabric instead of crocheting it...I'll have to decide.I do have some nice fabric. It would be great if I had some with cars on it but I don't know if I do so instead of buying some like that I'll use whatever nice for little boy fabric I have already.
Ginny, if you do go to walmart don't get too warm. Keep drinking that water.I'm sure not good at drinking water but lately have been trying to do better at it and you esp need it when you have a UTI or other bladder discomforts

Oh and Ginny, do you remember what the scarf pattern was called that we bought the yarn at Michael's for. I have a list of scarves but don't see one on there that sounds like it's the correct one. Should have renamed it as "the one Ginny pointed out to me"

Hello Crafters Meg - Sorry to hear you are still having such heat there. I hate it when I lose a whole post too. I try to remember to copy what I've typed before I hit reply, just in case I lose it all, but sometimes I still don't do it. Phyl - Sorry your machine acted up, hopefully cleaning it will help. Thanks for mentioning that since I need to clean mine too. I forget to do it very often and I'm sure it will help the performance of my machine. Hope you enjoy the projects next week. Ginny - I'm happy that your work recognized you and happier still to hear how many people expressed to you that they will miss you and that you mean something to them. It's a wonderful achievement to have spent 17 years with the safety of others in your hands. I commend you for that. I hope that retirement will be very enjoyable for you. Hope your DD can get a new sewing machine. Ruth - I bet your DGDs really love all those cute things you make for them. I hope they keep some of them and that when they are older they can look back and remember that you made those for them. I know I'd love to have something my grandmother made for me. The gift for your DGS sounds really neat too. It's warm here today, in the 90s. We might get some storms later, but they weren't sure. The crafting I've done today is reading a quilt magazine and in a bit I'm going to check out the Slow Stitch Sunday blog and look at what everyone is working on. I'm finishing up eating the rhubarb sauce I made yesterday. I mixed some with a SF Vanilla Pudding and it wasn't bad. Take care everyone!

Ruth, if I remember correctly I printed out the scarf pattern and its down stairs....will check it out later on and let you know if I did . I am pretty sure I did that so that I would remember the pretty scarf I wanted to make. And believe me, it is rare that I am that organized.! Thanks for the reminder on drinking water. I usually drink a lot of water anyway and had packed a bottle of brita water to take with us to Walmart. I know its so good for you and am fortunate that I do not have to force myself to drink water. Perhaps with a regents schedule I was not drinking my normal amount....Love your plans on making a hot wheels bag for DGS. Yes time sure flies....but its such a blessing to see the little ones grow up!! And by the way, make sure you are drinking enough water too!!! It is a common issue for most folks not to consume enough when the temps go up.
CJ-which quilt magazine is your favorite? Guess if I was to read one I would give it a test run by checking out back issues from the library. Sounds like you have access to several....would love to know which ones you enjoy. And yes, that sure does count as crafting. Dd was able to bring out MIL’s sewing machine, which worked like a charm. Guess now I should take it in to have it serviced- Lord knows when it last saw any maintenance at all. Dd does not sew all that much, but I am glad she has that machine, now that hers is probably not worth repairing. Stay comfortable in the heat. Hope its not too humid in your area.
Got a walk in- and we did go to Walmart for a few items. Cannot believe that tomorrow is Monday, but.....who cares? Guess not me anymore. Ha ha ha Good night Ginny

Ginny, if you can't find it easily don't worry and don't take time looking for it I'm sure you'll find it sometime and that will be fine. You're right about the water. I pretty much have to cnstantly remind myself to drink water. I never was a water drinker. Yes it has to be a relief to think that tomorrow is Monday and then realize that that's meaningless now. You're free!! I remember when I retired. It was such a relief not to be compelled to go somewhere. Next month it will be 15 years of freedom. I retired a little early. It was a little worrisome waiting three years without health insurance and for Medicare to start. The other day when I was working on my craft cave again I ran across my quilting things that I had from when I took a series of classes back in probably 2004. I really should get out the book that's with everything else and finish up that quilt top. It really will be pretty when done. I probably won't be actually making it into a quilt but I should. I have the batting and backing fabric. I don't really know how to do the actual quilting but it would be just for me or one of my grandchildren so I can improvise. And it's only baby size. And they may have quilting magazines online so you could look for them there but if you go to the library anyway well, may as well have the real thing in hand. Oh Ginny, you asked about the tooth fairy pillow... You mentioned seeing them for sale at your dentist office and that the woman there gave you her pattern so I'm pretty sure I made it with that pattern. I have all the pieces made, I just need to embroider on the face then sew and stuff it. You've been so busy this year you must have forgotten telling us about it and me saying that I made one. You had said you were thinking of working on one that weekend and I told you that you would for sure have it done in one day because it's so easy...well the pieces done anyway but you're good at embroidery so you wouldn't have trouble with the face.If you need the filling for it come on over since I have 10# of the stuff
