Good morning Fellow crafters and Happy Monday!!
Well, guess I fit in with the gang now cause Monday is just another day- the day after Sunday. Of course it would be this way anyway as I almost never worked summers.
Ruth, thanks for the heads up on the toothfairy pillow. I remember chatting with you about it- and knew you were going to try to make one. Glad it worked out for you! I think I too will use the online instructions and not those given to me at the dentist office. they do - at a glance- appear to be very similar. As far as quilting goes, there is LOTS of instruction online on how to complete a quilt. I am no expert quilter but have read lots of quilting blogs and have a friend or two who also quilt. For most the finishing of the quilt is the least favorite part, and you are approaching that stage. A baby sized quilt is easier to work with. I am assuming that you have completed the top and are now ready to make the sandwich with the quilt top, batting and bottom. Again a smaller quilt makes it much easier to work with.....go for it!!!!Its going to look great. Ask any questions (or I can also just keep my fat mouth shut- thats ok too). I have quilted the “right way”- but also done the quick turn method, which if you are not super fussy or hard on yourself is ok. The large quilt I made for my DSIL in Florida- a quilt she uses every day- was quick turn method. And she loves it just as much as if I did the whole thing the technically correct way.
Dh has a cold- the one I had several weeks ago. Its a lousy cold- so far he is just a little sick, tomorrow or the next day will probably be his bad bad days. My UTI seems to be almost over, I still have lots of antibiotic to take for it and will absolutely complete the course of antibiotic.
Think today, after my walk, I might work on the garden a bit. At the end of the week we are supposed to get some really hot weather. I will try hard not to bellyache about that, but I do hate hot weather. It will be good to get the dumb gardening before that sets in. Crafting is much much more fun than weeding or planting.
Have an awesome day! Hope everyone stays cool- think several of us are in for some hot weather. Ginny

Good morning Ginny and our other dear crafting friends.
It's a little warmer today but, just as Ginny said will happen there, it's going to be very hot later in the week.So I think yard work will be done here today too.
No I don't even have the quilt top done yet. It's partially done but not completely.I've seen the quick turn method and although I'd love to be able to do the quilting in an expert way I will defintely settle for what is easier yet still looks nice.I don't know about the actual top stitching whatever you call that stitching that some do by hand and others send out to have done but I'm just going to improvise.I'll definitely be looking up videos and/or written tutorials for help. When I took the classes the instructor was not good so when she told us that we needed to sign up for her next series of classes to work more on the little quilts I ignored her and hoped to find another place for classes but I never did.

Ginny, when I woke up this morning it came to me that the name of the scarf pattern was something like Northland so I looked through my LONG list of scarf patterns and found another called Mountain Land and sure enough that's the one. So thanks for offering to look for your pattern but now you don't have to feel as though you have to take up your time doing that. I'm going to be making this one for my grandaughter who is now visiting in S. Africa. It will be for her birthday toward the end of September. I can't believe she will be 17! Thank you for the pattern. I had forgotten how beautiful this scarf is.And she loves the "earth" colors so will love the colors of the yarn I got from Michael's to make it with all those months ago.
I worked on a scarf yesterday and it's nice too but not nearly as pretty as this Mountain Land scarf.

Good evening!
Still a lovely day here, and I could take this weather all summer long. Wish we were not in for a heat wave in a few days
Ruth, I forget the name of the pattern, but did find the pattern- I did indeed print it out. I can scan the pattern and send it to you. The yarn was loops and threads barcelona. Ok I found it....google elk studio crochet mountain land scarf and you have it. Its not on the all free crochet site anymore, but its there. Think I will get to mine in the fall after I make the annual hats for the grandkids
As far as finishing your quilt, quick turn does ok especially with a smaller quilt. You can - depending upon the design, stitch in the ditch to make the quilt top (after you have completed quick turn and closed up the opening), or tie the top- or attempt stipple. that is a bit more work and you might need a few more pieces of equipment (special quilting gloves) but Its not too tough. It does take a bit of practice on scrap quilt pieces.
Got some gardening done today.....hope to work on pillow cases tonight. Ginny

Ginny, you must have missed my post above. I did find the pattern on my list of bookmarked places so I do have it. Once again thank you so much for all your help.
I did some gardening too before it got too hot. It was nice out then. I just got back from going to my mailbox and it's really hot now. and what a waste of time. There were bills that I don't even open because they're also online and a bunch of junk mail. I thought I might have a letter from my friend back in NY. Haven't heard from her since April so I hope she's ok. She has a history of breast cancer that came back once already and she has some other medical problems so I'm a little concerned.I thought I might get a letter too from my "pen pal" my 6 year old grandaughter. I know she wrote one but I guess they didn't get it mailed for her. I'll write again and tell her to take the letter to church with her and have her parents stop at a mailbox.
Ginny, that little new grandbaby must be growing and doing really cute things by now. I know you enjoy seeing all of them but nothing like a little baby cooing and smiling.

Late again, it has been a busy day and hot but it has cooled off and I have the windows open and the whole house fan running. I am trying to get myself organized to leave for my trip to the beach. We wont leave until late afternoon and it is a 4 hour trip to where we are going.
I went to JoAnn's this afternoon to pick up some yarn. I am going to make another b/blanket in the waffle stitch and I wanted to do it with variegated baby yarn and a lighter yarn than I used the last time. I would like to work on it while I am away.
Ginny, I hope you are enjoying your first day as a retire.. Sorry your DH has a cold and hope he recovers soon. I hope that now you have time to do more quilting and we are never too old to learn. I hope your UTI is clearing up. Of course crafting is so much more fun that weeding. But look at all the calories you burn up.
Ruth, I have taken classes and they were a waste of money because I didn't learn anything. I have learned more from people in my Knit Wits group and from U Tube. I hope you hear from your friend. When I don't hear from old friends I wonder if they are still alive. Of course many of my old friends are no longer alive. usually someone in the family will write and let me know but not always.
Hello to cj & Phyl, I hope you are staying cool.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Ginny - I'm glad to hear you are feeling better and enjoying your retirement already The only quilting magazine I buy anymore is the Quilt Sampler one that comes out twice a year (usually May and Nov). This magazine visits 10 shops around the country and has pictures of the shops and details about them and each shop shares a quilt pattern. I found it's a waste of money to buy the other ones since there are so many free patterns on the Internet. Meg - Hope you have a wonderful trip and that the weather is nice. I'm sure the breeze will be welcome if it's just as hot at the coast. Can't wait to hear about your trip when you get back. I love the variegated baby yarn, I bet that will be pretty in the blanket. Ruth - I hope you will be able to finish your quilt. I'm no expert either (except maybe at putting quilt tops together ), but there are lots of way to "quilt" the quilt when you are ready. Lots of people just use the walking foot on their machine and sew straight lines, or wavy lines. I found that trying to Stitch in the Ditch made me a little crazy, so I did some where I stitched just to the side of the "ditch (seam)". Putting the quilt together is my least favorite thing, but I hope you like it. Phyl - Hope you are feeling well and getting some crafting. I started stitching the small pillow Sashiko kit I bought at one of the quilts show I went to. It's easy since the stitches are so large and also the fabric was already pre-printed with the stitching lines. And I finished going through the magazine, so that's my crafting I went out early this morning since I had a free meal coupon for Chick-Fil-A. They sell a calendar each year and once a month offer a free item once you've registered with them. I've been buying the calendar for years (it's a funny calendar with pictures of cows dressed up in all sorts of different outfits). I can end up with over $30 of free food each year and I like their food, so it's a win for me. Once I came home I walked around the yard and picked up the trash that accumulates from people throwing it out when they drive down the road, and I also sprayed the weeds that are coming in the cracks in the driveway. I really need to get it repaved, but I've been putting that off. It was strange when I went to log in here today, but my folder that had the bookmark for this website was gone. It was there yesterday, so that kind of bothers me that things are disappearing. I really need to buy a laptop, but that's another thing I've been putting off. The weather here is nice in the 80s and sunny today, looks like hotter weather is coming later this week though. I found a TV station (H&I) that shows the old show Early Edition on Tuesdays. I loved that show so I'll be watching it today. It's so wonderful to get to see so many of the older shows. I think many of them were so much better than what is one TV nowadays. Take care everyone!

Meg, it's good to see you. I hope you enjoy your stay at the beach. Is your baby blanket going to be knitted or crocheted? Yes I know my class was a waste of money except for the fact that it was enjoyable meetting new people and when the actual owner filled in one day to teach she taught us a couple really nice things. The class wasn't horribly expensive but then the instructor expected you to buy the fabric and all supplies from them and they were expensive.
CJ, I know you're an expert definitely on quilt tops and you are very humble so you probably are quite expert at doing the rest too. I hope it doesn't get too hot there. The calendar from Chik fil A sounds cute and I'm always for free food but if they still have a Chic Fil A here it's over on the ohter side of town in the mall and we never go there so would miss out. It used to be that my part D company..Humana sent a calendar each year with a $5 off coupon for Walmart every three months but I haven't received one in a couple years so I guess they did away with that.
Dh was out mowing just before 7:30 this morning and now I hear other mowers going so he must have given the neighbors the inspiration. Grass has been growing too well lately because of the unsually large amount of rain we've had lately.
If it doesn't get too hot I'll go out and do some more gardening today. I want to start that scarf for my 16 year old grandaughter. I have the things done (well except for the usual...the weaving in of ends, etc) for the dgd who's bday is in Aug and the 16 yr old's bday is toward the end of Sept then dgs at end of Oct and several in Nov so the time for getting the crafted items done is here.

Good morning,
Ruth, I had seen how you had found the pattern- but was unsure if you had digitally saved it and how easy it was to retrieve it. Don’t you wish that you could know what is in the mail box, to avoid the trip there? Well, if you walked there then you got some activity in. Its so nice to get something personal in the mail- either a note from a friend or your sweet little “pen pal!” So few write personal notes and cards these days, but it sure is a treat to recieve one.
Meg, not sure if we will hear from you while you are away, but my wish for you is for a relaxing and enjoyable. I smiled reading that you went to Joanns for more yarn. Its an extra special treat to start a new project while going away. What colors is the variegated yarn in? I do hope that you like working with this yarn and have a happy and restful time.
Well survived another morning of gardening. It was a beautiful morning- still cool here and sunny. I know the heat and humidity are just around the corner.
I started this post early this am- got interrupted and am finishing it now. Its very possible that someone else has checked in, but I will submit it now before I lose it. Ginny

Yup, as I figured CJ and Ruth stopped in.
Ruth, you are usually so organized- I know you will be able to get those gifts done on time
CJ thanks for the heads up on the quilting magazine. Quilt Sampler sounds like a cool magazine, and I might see if my library or another one in the system can get a copy. I LOVE Chik Fil A! We only get there when we travel south....which we will be doing for a weekend in July.
Ok gotta get in the shower. G

Ginny, after I said that I realized that from the way I stated that I had found the name of the pattern that I might not have the actual pattern and I sure appreciate you offering to scan it. But no I have all those listed in my bookmarks downloaded. Some I though I could click on and it would take me to the pattern but some sites, when I click, say that they're not available anymore. So the ones I really love I make a copy (online) and put it into the patterns folder in my email. That way I can also access them from any computer by going into my email. I know you're not thrilled with gardening but I bet your yard looks beautiful. I think we all have things we'd rather be doing except there is one woman on the other thread I post on that absolutely loves gardening. To her it's not a chore but to me it sure is a chore. And I got a blister yesterday from the pruning scissor thingies.Whine, whine, whine.. No I wish I could say I walked to the mailbox and got exercise but I didn't. I had to move the car anyway so I drove. The last time I walked down there was back when my ds and dgd were here and dgd and I went for a walk. OH and Ginny, thank you but I'm really not organized at all. The only time and place I was organized was at work and then because it was a real necessity.

Ok, Im making this scarf so I was wondering, If you are making a scarf how long would you make it. Various patterns call for different lengths and this pattern calls for 72 inches...that's six feet. I think that's too long. What do you think? We sure don't have to do what the pattern tells us to do. However I guess if the person who uses the scarf wants to wrap it around their neck a couple times it has to be pretty long.

Good evening,
I will have to check how long some of my scarves are. The fashion seems to be to wear them extra long now, wrapped around the neck several times. As long as it seems, I guess the 72 inches works. But I do agree it seems awfully long. My yard does not look beautifyl and needs clearly another 4 days of this grind. I will be lucky if I get 2 more days in, due to the hot weather that is coming. Becasue I worked and both Dh and I baby sit and had to care for our elderly mom’s well yard work fell to the wayside. My yard has a long way to go, but I am trying to make it look better. And Dh and I have huge differences in opinion on what looks good.
Been an interesting day. Now I am listening to tufted titmouse birds, chattering all around. They must have seveal families, the babies are calling to be fed and the parents are responding. Honestly, its loud, but I love it!!! Earlier I made a big mistake and went to a pile of dirt Dh had left by the swing set (the grand kids use it). Well, I forgot that a family of wrens always build a nest in the end of the swing set(they are tiny birds) and well, I was right under their nest. Man,was momma wren annoyed with me- and LOUDLY chewed me out for daring to go near the nest. I promptly found another location to import dirt from....having learned my lesson.
Absolutely delightful evening here, got a fire going and my creepy neighbor has only been out once. His noisy fan is off and being that he is inside he is not playing his music (which he messes around with the volume to annoy me). Praise God its a peaceful evening. I figure I will be inside before his lights come on.
Have a wonderful evening. Safe travels Meg. Hope Phyl is feeling well Ginny

Measured a scarf that Dd had made, and I like the length of. Its 70 inches long...and wraps nicely around the neck- leaving a nice but not too long tail to come around the front on both sides. I am a loftty height of 5’4”.....its a comfortable lenght. GInny

Thank you Ginny. I think my grandaughter is about 5'6 since she's about the same height as my ds who is like my dh and I..short. Son is probably 5'7. Now I'm about 5'2 1/2... used to be 5-3 and shrunk just a little. so I have about 60 inches done on this scarf and will make it 70 or so. The one I'm actually going to make for her will also be that length.
It's a hot day here. To get to about 100. Yesterday was supposed to have been 87 high but ended up 96. I stayed inside yesterday but somehow got at least 4 bites on my leg. I didn't see any mosquitoes but one must have sneaked in because something definitely bit me several times.I'm going to stay in today too. I was going to go out and pick up the piles of weeds and grass I pulled the other day but dh and I ended up talking and now it's after noon
DDIL sent me a video of my ds bungee jumping from the world's largest bungee jumping bridge. Dgd did it too. I can't believe my ds did that because as a kid he never would even go on the rides at fairs, etc and he hates heights.
Have a great day all. I'm going to be enjoying my new air conditioner.
